Theodore very gently takes the Ralts' tiny limb between his pointer finger and his thumb, giving it the gentlest shake. "There we are partner, I'm sure you'll have a strong handshake someday." Theodore set a Pokeball down beside his little friend. "Lot of things worth fighting for, and I can promise I won't ever have you doin it for no good reason."

The Chingling seems miffed at first that Kai wasn't doing what it wants, but then trills a little out of curiosity, As he begins to dance. It gives a little performance that isn't the best, but it seems satisfied with how he moves. Probably. It isn't yelling at him, or anything, so it's probably fine. The Ralts appears a little bit perplexed at the shaking, but goes along with it. As Theo puts down the Pokéball, it glances at the thing, before looking at its companion over yonder by the tree stump. They seem to share a silent conversation, before the other one nods, and the one next to Theo gently reaches out and taps the ball, getting sucked inside. Theo caught a Ralts! Gender: Male Nature: Decisive Level: 10 Moves: Growl, Confusion, Double Team, Teleport, Shadow Sneak Ability: Steadfast

Kai feels better now that he... has it's attention in a better light? He thinks he does anyways, but after going through the steps ac ouple times he finally comes to a stop in front of the little Chingling and gives it a smile. "Well, that was fun, but I'm going to have to get going soon... so I'm just gonna ask."
He pulls out his last empty Pokeball and holds it out to the little bell. "Wanna come along with me and learn how to dance while you get better at music?" Kai definitely prayed it would get better at music, whether it stayed or came with him.

The Chingling seems to think long and hard on it, but eventually lets out a long (shrill) trill, getting engulfed in the ball, the sound mercifully getting cut off. Kai caught a Chingling! Gender: Male Nature: Naïve Level: 10 Moves: Confusion, Astonish, Growl, Wrap ;On inheritance: Stored Power at 20, Cosmic Power at 30 Ability: Levitate The group soon packs up camp, leaving the other 'mon behind in the woods. It's not long before the city of Petalburg can be seen over trees, though it takes until just about lunchtime to actually reach the place. While it's not terribly much smaller than Mauville, Lilycove, Slateport or Rustboro, it has much more of an organic feel than those places, with copious green spaces and water within to go along with the buildings. There's definitely room to breathe, although certainly not as much as Vertanturf or Pacifidlog. The buildings don't tower quite as high, and they're not cramped together as much as they could be. There is, however, an unmistakeable din of city that surrounds the group as they make their way towards the Pokémon Center to get their bearings and store their gear that they don't want to carry. Thankfully, the Center itself is distinctive and easy to locate, with copious signage. Out in front, sitting at one of the outdoor tables, is Ruby. She seems to be deep in concentration fiddling around with some electronic gadget, not noticing the trio approaching. Neither Evelyn or Ayah appear to be with her.

Kai has switched out Wela for the Chingling he just caught, making a note that he needed to switch them regularly now, lest they fall behind. Lina would switch with Ula later, probably best just to make a rotation or something. He wasn't putting away Keahi, never going to do that.
The Alolan enjoys this place, way more than Mauville, reminds him a bit of home. Just less yellow and more green, and no volcano nearby... though there was a volcano somewhere. Kai just wasn't sure where from here.... Regardless, he walked up, just a bit ahead of the other two boys and waved at Ruby. When he realized she wasn't paying attention he made a decision to shout instead. "Hey, Ruby! How ya been!?"

"Oh! Hi there," Ruby says, looking up abrubtly, startled. "Sorry, didn't see you there. Busy trying to set up my C-Gear. Hazards of buying foreign... sometimes the manuals aren't exactly the most clear about what you're supposed to do..." She puts it down. "So, I assume you just made it to town here? We only got here late yesterday, challenged the Gym at open this morning. Man, Evie was so insistent we get here early, I'm just glad to have some time to sit down and relax."
"If you're looking for the others, Evie's been out back training with her Pokémon pretty much since they finished resting," she gestures with her thumb over her shoulder to a path leading around the Center. "Ayah went to explore around town. Probably getting away from some of the intensity here. I don't blame her. I always forget that there are those who didn't grow up with battles and everything being a common thing in their lives. For some, this kind of journey is their first experience to the Trainer lifestyle, the first real taste of things beyond pets or workers."

Cole perked up when Ruby mentioned that they had challenged the gym right away in the morning "I see, so that's the way you decided to do it. We took a detour up north of Oldale, decided to explore the area a little bit more. So uhh" He had to seem casual about this, even though he was burning up trying to keep himself from just asking "Did you all win the gym battle?"
If they had won, then Cole would have to make certain that him and his companions won first try as well, he had to show that they weren't going to be left behind, not after his last battle. Actually, even if the girls had lost their first attempt that just meant Cole had to win even more, to show that their strength was greater, and the first battle was just a fluke.....The problem is he didn't think either of the others would take the fight quite as serious....

"Our group prevailed, yeah," Ruby says, "but it was a close thing. Bit too much for my liking. I imagine that you'll have an easier time of it than we did, though. I'd be surprised if you didn't, at least."

"Any hints to what it's like? I don't think they quite do it like we do in Alola... or maybe they do? Was there a Totem Pokemon? Oh, or did you fight the Trial Capt-Uh, I mean Gym Leader?" Kai just fired off all his questions at once, not really taking into account that they thought it was a close battle. They could have just had bad typing, or fought to many things on the way to the leader. He was far more interested in just what the actual thing was, rather than the challenge of it.

"Nah," Ruby says, winking, "I think it'll be better if you see for yourselves. First Gyms are an experience. Wouldn't want to take that away from you. I will at least clarify that here in Hoenn, you battle against the Gym Leader's team. You win, you get a badge, showing that you beat them. That's about it."

"Howdy Miss Ruby." Theodore offered her a tip of his hat. "Seems y'all won the race here." He glances at Cole and gives her a knowing smile. "Guessin we'll have to see if we can catch up to you girls now. T'won't be the same as last time though, I reckon. Six's got him some new tricks, and we're itching fer another friendly go. See you after the gym?"

"Eh, I'd only call it a race between those two," Ruby says, chuckling, as she points at Cole and then back towards where she'd implied Evelyn was. "Looking forwards to seeing the new tricks. I'd like to say that I've got new ones too... but, really, it's just more of the same. Quantity over quality, or something." She grins.

Kai pouted a bit as Ruby kept the juicy details to herself, though he did wonder why you just fought the... Gym Leader. Well, she said it would be a surprise so maybe there were some trials to get to them, oh, or even other fights. He was getting pumped up at the thought of a challenge.
He glanced over at Theodore as he spoke, raising an eyebrow at the new the new tricks part. He knows Keahi certainly hasn't gotten anything new, so wasn't really sure what Six had managed on the way here. "I mean, friendly rivalries are supposed to help make you stronger... though, I can't tell if it's friendly between them" Kai glanced at Cole as he said that, shrugging as he expected he'd get the answer to that in a moment.

"Of course everythings friendly. I just want to crush her and show her that she's not going to win just because her dad is famous" Cole mumbled as he stared off in the direction Ruby pointed. He thought of going back and talking to her, seeing what he could find out about the gym and also seeing if her training was doing any good. But after a moment he put that idea on the backburner.
"Ruby, quick question. How many Pokemon were you able to use in the Gym Battle? I need to know how much of my extra special pre battle food to make" He says while absentmindedly fiddling with a Pokeball

"I coooooould just make you find out the hard way," Ruby says, "but... six. Over the group of you. So, be prepared for maybe more than six specific ones, unless you're possibly wanting to be fighting at a disadvantage sometime. But, hey. Maybe you want a challenge."

"Well fellers, may as well go have a look at what we're infer after Cole feeds his boys. I'll be bringing six along for sure. Hardly got to know the other two so far but Belle ain't much to look at. If I end up usin two, the other'll probably be Fred." Theodore explained his thoughts and gave a nod, he'd seen a couple broadcasted gym battles on TV before, but they never really grabbed him the way westerns did.

"Hm... Keahi and Ula probably, maybe Kani though... to shake the types up a bit? Kani's the noisemaker I caught, He's so cute." Kai wasn't gonna mention his music wasn't that cute, but that would improve with time. He just went at his own tempo, he'd figure it out with some time though. "What do you guys think, Kani or Ula?"

" Right so food for Six and Fred, and I'll make something for Hab and that Wingull I still need to name....the Vulpix won't be too useful with Hab at full strength I'm thinking. That just leaves Keahi and.....well Kani brings something entirely new to the table, so I'd say that would be good." Cole heads into the kitchen at the Pokemon Center and starts getting to work right away. For each one he made something that felt...right. The food for Habenero was bursting with heat, Cole stuffing a pepper with various other herbs and spices before baking it. The Wingull was made a salad full of greens the centerpiece being kale. Turning his attention to Kai's Pokemon, he made Keahi a strange drink, that seemed to cancel out any sweetness leaving a dry taste while still being filling. And all that leftover sweetness was baked into a little cake for Kani, the frosting almost oozing over the sides. For Theodores Pokemon, Cole decided to be a bit more....practical, just like the other boys personality. For Six he made a little stew, using a lot of the same spices he had used for Habenero, and for Fred he mashed various fruits together into a sauce, the sour smell making his eyes water just a bit. Once he delivered everyone their meals, he nodded in satisfaction "Alright everyone, enjoy these and then lets go get a badge!" Cole makes food!
Spicy for Hab, Bitter for the Wingull
Dry for Keahi and Sweet for Kani
Spicy for Six and Sour for Fred
Cole weeps in no money after he spends 600 of his 1050 on this.

After heading in, using the Center if need be, and getting food, the group is ready to head for the Gym. There's also a console that catches their eye reading "Trade Station," but it seems to be down for temporary software maintenance judging by the sign on it. The Attendant at the Center provides them with directions, so it's not long before they arrive at the Petalburg Gym, a rather large, boxy structure, with what seems to be a glass dome atop of it. Stepping in, the Trainers are immediately assailed with what seems to be... a thick, muggy forest. It's quiet, and there's nobody around - nothing "artificial" except for a pair of Gym statues on either side of a path. It's clear that that's the way in, so... that's where the group goes. It's maybe a minute before the group reaches a clearing in the center, with a figure reclining in a hammock at the other end, reading a book. At the group's approach, the man within puts the book down on an adjacent stump-table, and gets up to face the trio. He looks to be in his late-twenties, wearing fairly casual, light clothes, with dirty blonde hair, bright blue eyes, and a smile on his face. "So, you're here to challenge the Petalburg Gym, huh?" he asks. "Well, in that case, welcome. I'm Casimir. I recognize you from the group of kids for Birch's project. Made sure to know who was coming so I could keep an eye out for them. And stock up on badge cases and such." He walks over to the Trainers and holds out a green case to each. "So... Gyms. I realize this is probably your first time really thinking about one, for some of you at least. Here are the rules, that'll be the same throughout Hoenn. You'll be permitted six Pokémon between the lot of you in this challenge. Don't need to pick them out beforehand, you just need to live with when one of you releases one. So... work as a team.""The objective is to beat the Team of the Gym Leader. Most will also have six Pokémon, but others, like me, will shake it up. You lose, you have to wait a day, and you can try again. No harm, no foul. You win, you get a Badge. These are proof of your skill. They also each grant an enhancement to one Pokémon, just click the dongle on the badge case to the Pokéball. Only one badge can be active at once, though. So, it's a bit of strategy picking one." He thinks. "Well, I think that's everything. I'm sure you're itching to fight. I know my Pokémon and I are. His pride's a bit sore after losing last time."Casimir casually walks back to the other side of the clearing, before pulling the only Pokéball on his belt off, and casually releasing a rather decent-sixed black-and-yellow winged insect, with spiked barbs for hands. It looks over at the trio, as Casimir reaches into his pocket, and pulls out a Key Stone, set into what seems to be a compass. Holding it up, the bee is engulfed in glow. When the light dies down... not much has changed. It's a little bulkier, it has an extra set of spiked arms, and there's a red jewel in its head, but that's about it. But then the jewel begins to glow. And the trees around the field begin to shake. Out from them fly many, many similar, smaller bees, their needle arms gleaming as they rush to Casimir's Pokémon. Soon, the jeweled bee is engulfed in a swarm that itself forms the shape of a Beedrill. Casimir grins. "Meet King Sting. Are you prepared to topple the monarch?"MapYou may release your 'mon anywhere in columns A to H. Please remember to state Initiatives in your posts.

Kai had taken in what Casimir had been telling them, fiddling a bit with the case he was handed as he did so. When the leader had finally released his Pokemon, Kai could safely say he was a bit shaken up. His eyes were trying to keep up with all the bee's, but decided it was too hard. His hand instinctively went to grab Keahi's ball, and while his hand had grasped it, he shook his head and put his hand on Kani instead. "Alright, Let's Go Kani!" He slung the ball into the arena, releasing the little bell into the field. This was a horrible idea, type match-up wise and all, but Keahi was better saved for later because of that. Kani floated there, staring for a hot moment, also pretty shocked by a giant army of bees. Kai: 10 Kani: 15
