Brooke opened her mouth, found herself at a loss for words, closed it again. Just when she thought the girl couldn't get any stranger... She opened her mouth again to repeat that she wasn't looking for work right now, thanks very much, but what actually spilled out was, "Here, what's wrong with my speech and clothing?"

"Well, I've never heard anyone talk like you do, much less any of the maids back home. As for your clothes, every maid I've seen wears the same uniform, so we'll have to get one of those for you!" Yue smiled at Ms. Brooke. "And since you didn't refuse again, that means you agree to the job!" She said, pulling Ms. Brooke into a full on hug.

Luckily, the girl's answer wasn't snobby in the least; Brooke's hackles settled back down. Made sense she wouldn't have heard a country accent before, if she was as sheltered as she looked. But the rest of it... She let the girl hug her, then knelt down to look her in the eye.
"No, it don't mean that, miss. Look. I appreciate the offer, but you can't go around telling folks you've hired them and not takin' no for an answer. You ask them if they want to work for you, and then they say yes or no, and you've gotta respect that answer even if you don't like it. That's just good manners. You understand?" There was more, but best stick with one thing at a time.

Yue looked down at her feet. "I...I understand, Ms. Brooke." Yue felt guilty. Why had no one told her that there was more to hiring people than just telling them that they were hired?

"Good." Brooke felt relieved that she'd gotten through. (And a tiny bit guilty. She stomped on that feeling; it wouldn't do Yue any good to grow up never hearing the word 'no'.) She knew how to handle her little brothers and sisters well enough, but other kids were a mystery. "Now. I'm not in the market for a job right now, but I can spare a while to help you out. You're trying to find your family, right? Do they live here in town?"

"I don't know. The only thing I know about Mother is that her name is D'Mara. I originally came here intending to ask around to see if anyone had heard of her..."

Leon was floored, in a matter of moments, the new person to join in this escapade had somehow managed to not only get through to Yue but actually coax an apology out of her. He didn't know if this meant she was some sort of genius at dealing with people, or if he was just woefully inadequate, though he was leaning more toward the latter.
When the subject of D'Mara came back up Leon realized he'd forgotten to ask something "Miss.Yue, why are you searching for D'Mara in Saffron? D'Mara is the advisor to the queen herself. So she likely lives in Celadon City, not Saffron. Did you think she would be here for the ceremony?" he asked.

Yue gives Leon a blank look as she processes this information. Advisor to the Queen? So she's a super big shot? Was that why she was never home?
"I told you the only thing I knew about her was her name, right? The reason I came here was because it was the closest town according to Bubbles..."

Brooke was flummoxed for a moment. She'd figured Yue wouldn't know exactly where her family lived - that would be too easy - but she'd been hoping for a clue at the very least. If nothing else, she had to have gotten from there to here somehow, right? (Unless she was kidnapped, which Brooke wouldn't rule out at this point.) Only, not only did she not have any answer, she seemed to be saying she'd never met her mother. Who might also be the Queen's advisor? Clearly, there was something going on here that Brooke didn't understand. Yet.
She held up a hand to silence Yue and Leon. "All right, hold on a minute. We're talkin' past each other, here. I think maybe you'd better tell us your story, Miss Yue, starting from the beginning. How'd you get here? Who normally takes care of you?"

Alex was glad to be free of the small woman for a moment. He had been listening in, but he wasn't as familiar with the names being thrown around. The name D'mara rang a bell somewhat, and of course he knew of the queen. He tried to follow along with the conversation as best he could though. If Alex was supposed to be "working" for her, he'd better get to know her a bit. He did chime in though, "Can we perhaps walk and talk? The Guild looks to be getting quite busy. We may wanna get there before they start turning people away. Besides, maybe someone there can help us sort this out." Squirt came back to land on Alex's shoulder, clearly winded from doing circles above.

"Okay! First of all, I grew up at Father's house, with my own room and everything! It was kind of uncomfortable at first, but it had these really cool bars and chains decorating it so I didn't really mind. Plus since Father didn't let me leave until now, I had plenty of time to get used to it! Father was really nice and came to visit me everyday and talk to me a lot! Though I don't really remember much of what he said...I never was very good and paying atten-Oh! Something smells great!" Yue said, sniffing the air to find the source of the smell.

Even with his limited scope of knowledge, Leon knew something was wrong with what Yue had just said from personal experience. Looking over to the girl, Leon asked: "Yue, just to be clear are you saying you were kept in a single room, and not allowed out at any point for what sounds like all of your life, and only recently you've been allowed outside? Because if that's the case it sounds like you were a prisoner."

"Yeah, yeah, whatever you say Mr. Leon..." Yue said, clearly not having heard a word Leon just said. She closes her eyes, and begin to walk slowly with her nose held int he air, trying to hone in on the source of the scent.

Leon sighed 'Hopefully Miss.Brooke will ask her later so we can get a more concrete answer' he thought before looking at Rex motioning to Yue asking him to stick close to her for a moment, the flame dog barking to the affirmative before following the young woman, honestly a bit curious about the scent she had picked up himself.
Leon turned to Alex and Brooke "Listen...I don't want to put upon you, but after hearing what Miss.Yue just said I can't in good conscience let her go it alone. However, I also know for a fact I won't be able to handle dealing with her on my own or those who may be pursuing her. If you two would be willing to watch over her with me, at least until we can get her talking to someone in the guard or in the guild, I would greatly appreciate it" he said bowing his head, hoping the two would accept and not feel like he was trying to burden them.

Alex hangs his head a bit as he listens to Yue's story and takes in just how...awful it was. 'So, uncomfortable, bars, chains, not allowed to leave. Sounds like she was imprisoned.' As he hear's Leon say exactly the same thing, he nods a bit, glad to not be the only one to take it as such. As Yue took off for the newest smell to catch her attention, Alex listened to Leon's request. He replied, "I...I don't know Leon. I mean, we're all brand new to this thing. We just met this girl. I mean, have you seen that sword she is lugging around? I'm not thinking that's just for show. She can probably surprise us all and use that thing really well. At least, it doesn't seem like a piece of treasure or anything. She also has that tiny green thing with her. If it's half as strong as Squirt is, then she's already packing a lot of protection."
"I just, I don't know. Something just doesn't seem right. She's so carefree and childlike. I also feel like she's a bit like a sister. I feel that urge to protect and take care of her. I was a little put off by the whole Gardener thing sure, but I've been around younger kids before. They all pretend to be knights and nobles. The way she acts, I don't think it's all pretend though. I...I guess...I just want someone else's opinion. I will make sure that you are not alone in watching over her, but Leon, we're all alike here. We're four strangers that happened to meet up outside of the Guild Hall. I don't know what the next few minutes is even going to bring for us. The guild has multiple branches that go out on missions. I'm pretty sure there are teams. I don't know if the whole team is in one branch or multiple. I cannot guarantee that we will be on the same team. What I do know is, I will stick with you guys for as long as I can so you don't have to protect her yourself. I need to learn how to handle myself in a real fight, so knowing I can talk to you guys and having you close would be extremely helpful." As he finishes up the last part, he turns back towards Brooke and remembered how well Sharp performed just a bit ago. He didn't know what Brooke was like in a fight, but it takes a good trainer to make a Pokemon fight the way Sharp had. He imagined she could handle herself.
Alex reviewed what he said in his head and just shook his head a bit. "I'm sorry for the outburst. I tend to overthink things. Let's just take it one step at a time and get inside the guild first. At least that should be a safe spot for now. We'll get situated and settled in, then we'll try to sort everything out. Who knows, maybe someone inside can give us more details." He finished.

"If you ever want her to listen t'you, Alex," Brooke said wryly, "you're gonna have to learn to use less words. I couldn't follow half o' that." She turned to Leon, squaring her shoulders. "Anyhow, I'm with you. Wouldn't feel right just lettin' her go off on her own. Even if she knows how to take care of herself in a fight, that don't mean she can take care of herself outside of one."
"Now let's go, before she gets in trouble 'cos she doesn't know she has to pay for things." She suited actions to words, lengthening her stride to catch up with Yue before she got too far.

Leon smiled a bit when the both of them agreed, raising his head "Thank you very much," he said looking at both of them before turning to Alex "I think I understand where you're coming from. That this may only be a temporary pact, but I believe it's the best course of action for the moment. We should stick with her at least until she can talk to someone in the guild about what's happened. Which means I think we'll be sticking together at least until registration" he said before following after Brooke getting a little embarrassed when she mentioned Yue didn't know how to pay for things, knowing he had the same problem.
However, he had a thought Brooke and Alex had been very helpful so far, and they didn't seem too judgemental. Leon pulled out his satchel of coins pulling out a few "Actually...I don't know how to pay for things myself. I was given money from time to time but never allowed to spend it. I don't know the value of these coins or if they even have any value" he said accepting the possibility his family gave him trinkets they knew he would never actually try to exchange.

"That so? Well, I guess I can show you if you like," Brooke said, looking only a bit surprised by the admission. "I reckon you got the basic idea already, since you're worried about how much your coin's worth. Now, if you want someone to watch and tell you what price is fair and when someone's tryin' to cheat you, you might want t'find someone else. Where I grew up we didn't have much use for coin, folks liked to stick to barter."

Alex spoke up, "I did have to help manage the finances at our little clinic. I was responsible for ordering medical supplies and such. If you need help, I can come with you Leon. I will do my best to not let the city folks scam you out of money." Finally, at least there was something he could help with here and now BEFORE people got hurt. Alex felt bad at the thought of him not being super useful until everyone was injured. There had to be other ways that he could help these new people out. He'd just have to take little steps to get there.
"Come on, I think Yue went off for food too. At least I'm pretty sure that's what had her distracted." As they start headed towards the smells, Alex catches Brooke's sleeve to hold her back a second. He mutters, "Hey, I'm sorry about that. I just get all nervous and start to ramble when I can't help someone in need. I usually know all the answers in a crisis, but this whole new Guild and new opportunities thing just has me all flustered. Please don't hold that against me."

Leon looked to Brooke nodding "I get the concept, my parents would sometimes discuss deals with clients in front of me, I just never saw an exchange of the coins themselves. I was worried I'd end up trying to buy something and either pay way too much or not have enough to buy anything" he explained as he turned to Alex when he offered to go along to help "That would be very helpful Alex, Thank you," Leon said smiling.
When Alex mentioned Yue again Leon looked around before calling out "Rex?!" Which was followed by the barking of the flame dog, "She should be over that way, I asked Rex to stick to her." he said walking in the direction of the barking.
