It was a day gone almost. Iwakashi wasn't so sure that it was entirely wasted but it almost felt that way. Clearing a set of stairs didn't really feel like any sort of progress towards a new empire. Still finding Lord Yosei was a small boon. The fact that he was a skeleton didn't particularly bother Iwakashi. Bones weren't so different from stone after all, if less common to see lying about. "If you lived in this castle in it's prime, might you know of any passages that might be hidden. Something to be aware of during a siege that someone might not sneak in? Not that it will be of any use until we drain the lower levels. Or repair the walls."
It seemed there would be more days spent repairing the castle but those days were far off. They needed supplies more than they needed walls."So we have the first of our Vanguard. Where do we turn next."

Crimson is no great aid during the clearing of the stairwell. Despite having four arms, she has neither the strength nor the will to do it - it reminds her far too much of her original task in the hive, back when she was still under the control of <She Who Ruled>. Dark days. Metaphorically. And literally, but that's not particularly important to her.
When the rubble is cleared, though, she's met with... a surprise, to say the least. It's a creature that is alive, yet not-alive at the same time. Peculiar. How can that be?
"I do not imagine we will have to worry about sieges much at this time," Crimson comments, still looking this 'Yosei' over. "Food is probably the most pressing concern... I would much prefer to avoid testing the limits of my own mortality. If we need to leave the swamp to do that, so be it." She would almost prefer that. "I do not imagine that a short foray away would make much of a difference in this domain's... condition."

Lootbox sat exhausted on a piece of stray masonry, having burned most of his strength clearing rubble away all afternoon. One could see the weariness in his form by how poorly he held shape, looking significantly less solid and more melty than usual. There was no frown on his face, however, nor visible anger. There sat a look of satisfaction from taking what seemed to be an uncontrollable situation and leaving a visible mark as proof that it could be changed.
Given their dire straights, the cleared stairwell may as well been a rallying flag.
"Food shouldn't be an issue. These swamp creatures are feeding themselves well enough. We can either tap into their food sources, or into the animals themselves if need be." Salt water fishing might be a good option, as was digging for clams. They were bound to find quite a few while setting in foundations, whenever they got around to building up a town. "That being said, if we want to stop doing the grunt work ourselves we'll need to gather a force of minions. I suggest we do this in two fronts."
"One front gathers viable slave laborers from the swamp's creatures. Anything humanoid and communicable will do. On our other front, we light a bonfire in the castle's keep to attract sailors to its light. We can win them over through a show of divinity, as only a fool would refuse the orders of the gods."
The mimic grinned at this statement; he always wanted to be a Pirate King. Land banditry was more stable for income, but sea banditry came with more style and flare. Of course, there was but a single snag in winning hearts over with a show of godly might. "...assuming we three can figure out HOW those powers work. You're in that boat with us too, right Kingsy? I don't think the Time Witch would be so interested in ruining your day otherwise."

Perhaps finding food wouldn't be as difficult as Iwakashi had first thought. Though they might be scant, there were some denizens of these swamps. These selfsame denizens could also be pressed into service if need be. Yes it would be better to have humans or other races but Pokemon would do in a pinch. The divine issue still held no hope with him but he had a convenient helper that might be able to help with the whole swamp situation.
He sets the Croagunk in his sights. "Would there be anything local that might be able to help us in our hunt for food or laborers? Some sort of place that the local Pokemon gather?"

"In my younger years I beseeched a god of dreams to bring me inspiration and good fortune for my lands. What came instead was its counterpart, a being of pure nightmares. This land was nice once. Vibrant. As you can see, I can't have nice things." Yosei gestured to his skeletal body.
"As to workers, if you are looking for handed Pokemon, Illusio or Pugilis would be a better bet. Maybe Yaksha if you are fortunate, but they have ever kept close eye on their borders.". Yosei offered.
The Croagunk gestured to Yosei. "If you want a palace built out of mud, I know a guy, but here in the swamp we aren't really social types. Good way to get eaten."

"I do not suppose there is a way to reverse it?" Crimson asks, looking out at all the swamp. "I would be more than happy if I never needed to wade through that morass again."
"Of those two, I would suggest Illusio," she says, recognizing the name amongst many unfamiliar ones that have been discussed over the last day. "That is where my hive is. Or... at least was. I would be grateful to have them back, and they would probably provide many of the hands that we need."

Lootbox raised an eye at Iwakashi's vanguard as it spoke, the frog suddenly catching his attention. Had it been capable of common speech the entire time?
This was an interesting prospect! The mimic moved to take a more in-depth investigation of the creature, his own body contorting and shifting to match it as he did so. Three fingers, full dexterity in joint movement. Legs flexible, good for swimming. Skin sleek, waterproof; could work in the murk with no issue. Strength was... lacking. Looked good in every other area, including the food department if the non-sharp teeth indicated a diet without meats.
"We could probably make due with a couple of these for now." Lootbox croaked, having fully matched the Croagunk's looks. One could hardly tell them apart if not for the cloak and armor that shrunk down with his form. "Outsourcing for specialized labor is a good idea, but these frog things should work for general purposes. Fishing, draining water, general tool use. Home-turf advantages in a tussle. We're looking at the ideal sort of dock hand!"

Croagunk's response was disappointing. But there wasn't really anything for it if the swamp inhabitants we're solitary in nature. He keeps an eye on Lootbox's as the mimic shifts into a froggy form. "They would be of help if we could find more. But it would take dredging the whole swamp to actually find them." The effort to find and corral several dozen would take days and they didn't have more than a few before their meger supplies ran out.
"If you think you can gain supporters in Illusio then we should make the trek. It's a better chance than anything else and we can't afford to tarry here. Hopefully, whatever filled the vacuum of your departure is easy to depose" It would give the bug a large amount more power than the rest of them but risks had to be taken.

"Fair enough I suppose." Lootbox shrugged. He wouldn't mind checking what state the world was in. "It's not like the frogs are going anywhere. Maybe finding them would be easier with a few extra Mind Power Users under our belt."

"Yes," she chitters, nodding. "If my hive is still fine, I believe that we would be able to gain at the very least some hands here. However... I must admit that I do not know where 'Illusio' is. It is but a name to me, and I have no frame of reference."

"Illusio is to the north and west of here. To reach it, you will have to cross the entirety of Cragspur, that would be the fastest route. The terrain is hard travelled and may be taxing on what little supplies you have left. Terrera is not much better, being mostly hard packed dirt and scrublands. A border crossing through Yaksha, and into Avia, heading east then North would be the easiest route. Plenty of opportunity to scrounge or forage while progressing towards your destinations." Yosei offered, staring out the raggedly hanging doors.

"I will take your word for that," Crimson says. "The world is... an enigma. I know that it is large, and there is much beauty in it, but... I never extended my reach far beyond my home before meeting an untimely demise." She thinks, before addressing Yosei. "How long is it to get out of this swamp? Would we be able to do it in a single day, so that we could at least rest in this dry spot before trying to traverse it?"

"It may be that my people would be able to aid us if we travel through Cragspur," Iwakashi supplies, "Perhaps some among them might remember me and supply help readily. It will be hard going but I walked the paths often enough that it shouldn't be an issue." He taps his maul upon the ground a couple times, lost in thought, "It is possible some warlord has risen up in my absence. That would make the path much more perilous. It is a risk but I almost feel that time will not be on our side once we make ourselves known."

"A full day on foot, at a forced march you might manage it a little faster, but this mire prevents passage easily off the winding roads to and from Yaksha. If you are trying to head north, you're in for a swim and another day's journey at least." He ground a finger against the side of his skull, as though cleaning his ear, then examined it. "Mortals can survive for days without food, I'm sure you will be fine regardless of what path you take."

"Then we should probably head off come first light," Crimson says. "While I personally do not mind the darkness, it would probably be better to have a good rest before heading out. And perhaps the eyes of others here are not so accustomed to little light. I know that needed to be considered when dealing with humans. Is that agreeable, or does somebody else have a differing plan?"

"Day would make it smoother to travel through this mire. Better to conserve our strength than spend the extra effort through the night." Iwakashi rumbles in agreement. They were pressed for time but not so much. "All the same Yosei, I don't seek to test how resilient we've become just yet. Starving before we've even started would be a short-lived campaign."

"I didn't become a king of thieves to be friends with hunger." Food would surely be easier to find once they crossed provinces. "If morning is the plan, then I'll take my leave. You may find me in my... err... OUR chambers."
Note to self: have the minions construct a separate room in the dungeon somewhere.

"I've slept a bit too long myself, think I'll have a walk. Take in the air outside of these walls and see if I can't find myself a vassal. There was a pause, and his sockets seemed to twist to one side. "Pleasant dreams. I don't sleep anymore, but as my guests here I won't disturb you." There was something strangely forboding in his phrasing, but as the trio settled in for the evening sleep came with surprising ease. Dreamless.
Rising with the gray the next morning, it was time to set off for distant lands, in search of answers to their past deeds and their current holdings. Yosei reclines in the courtyard, staring off into the marsh. "So which path will you ultimately be taking? Should I expect your return?"

"I believe that we are heading for Yaksha," Crimson chitters, "for I do not fancy myself much a swimmer. Solid ground beneath our feet would make the journey much more bearable, and with less chance of accidentally sinking." She glances at Iwakashi as she says the last bit. "And, much as I would prefer to quarter myself in my hive once more... I believe that there is something about this place. So, I will endeavour to bring workers back here. It is why we are leaving in the first place."

Iwakashi nods in agreement with Crimson's statement. It was the sensible option. Leaving Yosei on his own, did leave him slightly concerned. How could he keep eyes on the skeleton when he was with the others. "Do not worry your head. We will be back soon enough. The trip may be long but we have time."
He begins to shuffle towards the ruined gate. "No sense in wasting time. Let us be off"
