Iwakashi's lurching steps halted, and his host smiled ever so slightly as the weeds and mud gave way to wet and depth, his heavy body plunging into the murk and weeds to nearly his chest. The frog, yet out of arms reach, tilted it's head down to address the stone man, now at proper eye level. "I was not referring to you, I was referring to the actual sun. Someone thinks highly of themselves. Now that I don't have to squint to make out your face, what task is it you intend, that I am with or against you?"
(Iwakashi is stuck, and may attempt to free himself with an Athletics Check).
Lootbox, with his background in 'alternative entry' finds several means to the second story, though it will require some scrambling and many of them, given the state of the Castle... Might only be feasible once.
(Lootbox may climb to the second floor using Athletics or Acrobatics.)
Crimson's Yanma returns when it is called, though whence it went it seems to have no recollection and buzzes with mild confusion.

This would have been a great place to hit up in its prime; swamp with easy escape, and a castle full of unnoticed backdoors! It's a shame the stuff inside was, for all practical purposes, already his property. Just a bit of a climb here, swing over there, a few twists and turns a normal body wouldn't allow (easy enough for one who can bend their shape)...
Shouldn't be too hard to get up!

Curses begin to stream from Iwakashi as his bulky form sinks into the damp and fetid swamp. It had been some fair amount of luck that he hadn't sunk into the morass before now. "Blasted swamp! Even the seas would have been better!"He flails about as he struggles to wade his way free. The Croagunk's chiding do little to cool his head, "If you were down in this pit. I might be able to better show you why I think so glowingly of myself." He stays silent in his energetic struggles for a moment longer. "I mean to bring peace to Ransei. The Kingdoms rail against each other, straining and struggling. My companions and I are going to bring them to heel. They may strain against our might but they will struggle in vain. My purpose is to fight and so I shall." The words are forceful and proud. If this frog wanted to know what he intended, he now knew. He might have to contend with an angered Earthenborn but he knew. Interesting... she thinks. It did indeed seem to be a form of stasis. Though it's a shame that it seems to cause disorientation - something to watch out for.
As she's been doing this, Lootbox had been talking to her, something about 'figuring out a way to unlock their divinity'. She turns towards it, saying, "Do you expect me to know much more than you do about our situ-" aaaand, the ooze is gone. Well then.
She turns her attention back to her newest companion, gesturing towards it. +Come here,+ she sends, +I will see if I can awaken you, show you the true beauty of the hive.+ This isn't something that she could do before, but even as she thinks it, she knows that she can do it. With one of her arms, she reaches out.

Vaulting and scurrying, Lootbox makes his way across crumbling walls and rotted wood to the balcony of the second story. The room itself appears as though it may have once been lavish, but has long since succumbed to mold. Items of great value left to be consumed by whatever life drifted in on the breeze. The only thing that seems salvageable is the finery that rests upon a skeleton loosely draped in an ornately carved chair at the balcony's edge. Just as the mimic is forming his opinions about the place, there is the faint snap, and rattle of bones. An arm that lay discarded to one side jams itself into socket. The jaw hinges back into place. The figure on the throne stirs. "WHO DARES BRING THE LIGHT OF LIFE INTO MY TOMB!"
The sockets of the skull were surprisingly expressive, and as they settled on this new guest the menacing voice that seemed to emanate from the being turned to one much more personable. "...Oh. Sorry about that."
The dragonfly settles under Crimson's palm, buzzing every so often. As a simple creature, it has simple desires, and is very easy to join with the power of Crimson's mind alone. She, like it, knew hunger. Knew thirst. Knew a desire for safety and security. Her will would be its. A quickening between minds began.
"We are our true selves at our worst, I have heard said among the tall ones." The Croagunk watched as Iwakashi tore free of everything with little effort, weeds slithering off of his body with so much water. "You had no need of my help to get free of the marsh, for you to ask means a future of significance. I will join you."

Oh... how awkward. One normally evicts prior tenants before switching over a property's ownership rights. It seems the Time Witch was either a poor businessman or a shrewd scammer to offer a castle so rubbish and still occupied.
"I'd say we were looters but it seems like Time and Nature beat us to the punch." Lootbox quipped, taking a look around the room. Even his most thorough heists paled in comparison to the empty state this throne chamber sat in. "What does this make me now? A guest? Confidant of a man's ancient secrets? Unwanted pest seems more likely, if experience has anything to say."
What to do, what to do? The former owner hanging around did put a small snag in their plans of starting a new kingdom from these ruins. Should he finish off what age failed to destroy? Or perhaps the former lord could prove to be valuable beyond his treasures lost. It wouldn't hurt to hear him out either way."I usually go by the title of 'Lootbox the Thief King', but both of us appear to lack a kingdom these days. And you are... were.... ARE... the reigning lord of this castle?"

Feeling the beginning of a connection, it causes Crimson to relax. It is not the same as the connection of the hive, but it is still more comforting than the emptiness that she had been feeling so far. While the two minds, the two beings, are not one, there is still something. And after all the nothing, the nothing that she'd promised that she'd never return to... it is everything right now.
She revels in that for several moments, before opening her mind some to it, letting it feel around. She knows that she's spent too long around humans, though, when she asks it, +Do you have a name, child? I am Crimson. You... feel like a Viridian, but I don't know if that's what you are.+ It's something that she would never have done with any of her hive. Those are akin to more part of her, extensions of her. This creature... even connecting, it's separate. And so it feels right. And that concerns her.

Struggling his way free from the worst of the swampy clutches, Iwakashi regards the Croagunk. He still very much itched for a fight but getting in one now would be.... foolish at best. They didn't have any healing supplies if either the frog or himself were injured. Say what he might, the frog's words spoke of ambition. Iwakashi could work with that. "Even the highest mountains stand among other peaks. This isn't a task I can do alone."
He turns abruptly to where the others had been searching but sees no signs of them at the lonely pond. "Have you a name? Or did you have no need for one?" He waits momentarily for an answer before marching off to find the others. They wouldn't have gone off without him so the castle would be the best place to find them. Unless of course they valued this partnership so little that they had already absconded.
His worries are misplaced, as he finds at least one of their number inside the derelict castle. "I see you are.... getting to know your new Vanguard. Have you seen either of the others Crimson?"

"An escape." The skeleton retorted as to Lootbox's purpose in his chambers. "Cursed as I am to remain forever 'as all things stagnate way whence my soul went', I wasn't willing to risk breaking a leg jumping from the balcony. The witch even saw fit to cave the roof over the stairs!" He pontificated with much gesturing, using the popular air quotes as he described his fate. "I was once Lord Yōsei, in the time when this place was a home, before the sea and the populace rounded upon me."
+Viridian?+ It answered as the creature's cognizance was elevated far beyond what it would have ever reached alone. There was a brief burst of color as it searched for meaning of the name. +I will be Viridian.+ Silence passed between the dragonfly and its master, as it drank in information. Question and answer, understanding and purpose, a mental communion between two beings.
"No need for one. You are the first creature that I have ever addressed in this way. What is a name to a creature with no peers?" The Croagunk responded, trudging along after Iwakashi as he made for the Castle.

Drinking in the contact with Viridian, it takes Crimson a moment to register Iwakashi's approach. She turns to the rock-monster, and addresses it, noting the frog next to it. "Lootbox went outside, saying it was looking for ways to get upstairs, trying to get around this blockage. I have not seen Rion since we returned, though. I thought that it had remained outside with you?"

If Iwakashi's face wasn't always etched with some brand of frown, one would almost get the impression that he was worried. "I saw no sign of Rion outside. She may have slipped my notice...though it seems unlikely." Thoughts roll through his mind at what could have happened. "Perhaps that mysterious ticking noise has something to do with her disappearance. I was preoccupied at the time but it seemed to sound from nothing and shortly returned to nothing. Perhaps Othna decided four was too many...."

Lootbox flinched halfway through the king's introduction, a look of frustration growing on his face. Now he was the merciful, forgiving kind of sort in the right circumstances. Not one of high standards; he took what he could get. But there were limits. Limits to how poor an abode he was willing to lurk within. Limits to how many transgressions he would overlook.
But this witch? To offer a rubbish castle, only to have had a hand in how rubbish it truly was!? And joke of humble beginnings while dragging back the goal posts!?!?
THAT WAS THE LINE! SHE MEDDLED NOT WITH AN ORDINARY CASTLE! SHE MEDDLED WITH LOOTBOX'S CASTLE! THAT IS A CRIME UNFORGIVABLE!
"YOU! King. Stay put." Lootbox barked, his coy banter having finally tapped out. He stormed over to the balcony, looking down below for his compatriots with an angry glare. The mumbles of conversation could be heard below, although he only needed one for now. "Crimmmsooooooon. Would you do me an honor and GET UP HERE! NOW! WE ARE CLEARING THIS DAMN STAIRCASE BEFORE THE TIME WITCH SURPRISES US WITH MORE RUBBLE!!!"

"Odd," she chitters, pensive. "Well, if that is indeed the case... there's really nothing that we can do about it now." That doesn't mean that there's not something that could be done about it later, though. She really doesn't like the idea of being able to be snatched from time at the behest of another.
She then hears... something... from above. Oh. It's Lootbox. "If I could get up there now," she retorts, raising her voice back so that the ooze can hear, "then we wouldn't be having this conversation, because the stairs would be clear. Unless you found other stairs, and would like to direct me to them?"
She turns to Viridian, saying, "While I cannot fly, you can. Can you go and tell me what exactly is going on up there that requires such immediate attention?"

Viridian gives her ascent and then ascends. With a low fluttering, she leaves the moldering stones and gains altitude, considering Lootbox. Crimson gets the distinct impression that there is another individual on the upper level, but Viridian can't identify what it is, human or Pokemon. The Pokemon is mildly unsettled by the presence.
"You brought a band of thieves with you deep into a tidal marsh to rob a castle that's been uninhabited for... How long have I been dead? Seems like I've lost count." Yosei tapped his chin with a bony finger, and rose from his chair, wandering to the back of the room to examine the collapsed section.

"There is... something or someone up there with Lootbox," Crimson says to Iwakashi. "I do not believe that it is immediately a danger, given that the yelling was regarding clearing the stairwell and not... well, anything else. But... it is a concerning presence. Perhaps we should step outside, and see if we can make our ascent?" She sends to Viridian to meet her at the window to the upper level. For one thing, if the presence does turn into a problem, she does not want to lose her only bond. She doesn't wait for the rockman to respond before heading for the outside.

Lootbox pauses for a moment, struck bluntly by Crimson's rebuttal. "Well what good is mind powers if they can't get you up a crumbling castle!? Fine, I'll clear the stairs myself!" The mimic huffed, stomping towards the collapsed stairwell and reaching for whatever rocks he could jar loose. Had to start on this mess somewhere.
"Your statement has three flaws, Kingsy. Firstly, I only wish I had thieves left; those down below are other displaced monarchs. Second, being here was not of my choice; the alternative was death at the hands of traitors. And thirdly, you mistake me for someone who has a better grasp of our location than yourself; the Time Witch mocks us all."
Damn these masonry scraps were heavy. The things Lootboc would do to have a few extra hands doing this grunt work in his stead...

Shaking away the thought of the missing member for now, Iwakashi turns to the problem of the collapsed stairwell and the inquisitive Lootbox. Crimson stalks out, leaving Iwakashi to gesture to the croagunk and stomp after the scurrying bug. The tower's outside was hardly better than the inside. Perhaps he could scale it but he didn't trust the masonry after all this time moldering away.
With his lack of trust in the tower there was only one real option. Bellowing, "Lootbox. What are you barking on about? We can't get up there with a rubble filled staircase!" He pauses for a moment hoping the mimic would actually come to the window....oh he was already at the window. "Crimson says there is something in there with you. Is that why we need to clear the stairs?"

"Yes and No." Lootbox called out, breath strained from heavy lifting.
"The castle's king is up here with me, but we're clearing the stairs because I'm lot letting some Time Witch say where we can and cannot ascend! THIS IS NOW A MATTER OF PERSONAL PRIDE!"

"You'll never get anywhere on your own. We don't have time to waste. I'll see what I can do from down here." Iwakashi returns to the foot of the stairs and begins his task. Rolling rubble and rocks out into the courtyard. It was going to take longer than he would like but Lootbox would likely be up there all day anyway. Best to hurry the process along. The Croagunk observed the Earthenborn's trial. First settling in the hallway, facing the stairwell. He watches as Iwakashi works loose the stone. A handful of trips and the frog joins his master. Several hours of intense physical labor, and the stairs are clear to the second level, allowing Iwakashi and Crimson to greet their 'host' for the first time. Lord Yosei, as he calls himself, denies any proper claim to the castle now. A kingdom is as much its people, as it's ruler. He's just happy to be able to come and go again. "I won't pretend to be the type to understand the inner workings of a King of Thieves, but you have put in an effort when your ire was raised. This is something I can much appreciate." He nodded to himself in his finery. "Consider this place as much your home as it is mine. It will be dark soon, not that you can ever tell through the murk." His sockets rolled to one side.
