Emerging from the small copse of trees, and back onto the plains, there were mountains rising to the north, far from the open plain. However, before reaching those there was a vast expanse of coniferous forest spreading in the foothills of the mountains as well as along the bank of the river that flowed forth from them. The journey along it was certainly going to take more than one day, especially with no clear route through the forest. It would certainly not be an easy journey, there would be many challenges, potentially pushing trainers far beyond what they were capable of handling with so many untamed miles of journeying to do.
Even this far from the forest, a slight chill could be felt in the air, the locations clearly much cooler than the tropical beach and plains. Things would definitely be both tougher and more recognisable here than they had been on the rest of the island so far.

"Majestic, Imposing... a true trial." Cole stared at the mountain before them."And a bit chilly." For now, Cole was glad he usually wore layers, but even he could tell that would not be enough eventually. He considered the situation in silence, believing that surely Genki or Aiden would know how to handle this better than he.

Aiden feels the chill in the air and smiles, he enjoyed colder weather; but he enjoyed the outdoors no matter the weather. "Do you guys have cold weather clothes with you? i have an extra sweater in my bag, but I also have my jacket..." He looks at the thickness of the forest tilting his head before smiling. "At least Kiba is a Growlithe, he can help keep us warm. At nights we will have to make sure that we light a fire to help keep the cold away, which means sleeping in shifts to make sure the fire doesn't go out of control."
while they walk, Aiden is keeping his senses peeled for Pokemon or noises.

"A fire is also going to run the risk of drawing some unwanted attention, making the night shifts all the more important."
Genki took some time to take in the mountains and the untampered world before him. He enjoyed the strength of natures grasp on the land, as he felt he belonged outside. At the same time he knew he was her to change it, and just by being here, he already had. He hoped that on their mission, they would find a healthy balance of nature and progress.
"I packed for cold weather, but not to live in a snowy climate," he rambled as he mind wandered, "you ever see those snow shoes that look like tennis rackets for your feet? I think I could pull off this big goggles they wear for sun and snow."
Genki realized they weren't getting anywhere by standing around, "No time like the present," he moved towards his destination.

Moving closer to the large taiga forest, the climate seemed to stabilise more, chilly but not cold, though it seemed as if it were not going to get any colder for a while, at least until they reached the foothills of the mountains. Aiden saw nothing else around him, but he knew that within the shade of a mountain it would most likely be very cold indeed, the ones back home certainly were, and if he was right this forest might be quite like some of those- certainly on the colder side.
As Genki looked he could see that these trees were very much like those found all over his home region and yet nothing like he had expected in a more tropical area- one would have expected something closer to the trees of the Sevii islands, the Orange Islands or even the Hoenn region, not those that clung to the hills of mountains in regions like Sinnoh and Johto.

Stopping briefly to pull a leather jacket out of his backpack he pulls it on quickly to catch up with the others. "So once we get into the shadow of the mountains, the temperature will drop significantly; though I am unsure by how much," said Aiden once he was caught back up with the others. "We'll probably want to make camp by night fall. If we camp in or against the forest, it will help cut down any wind that may blow through during the night."

"Tree cover also tends to retain some warmth at night, so sleeping within the forest limits will help there too."

"I have... a coat?" Cole shrugged his bag. "Wisp and I are happy to help provide heat, but isn't it a little bit early to make camp yet?" He looked upwards towards the mountain an squinted his eyes. "But perhaps tackling the mountain with a fresh day's worth of sunlight is best. Should we instead explore the local area?"

Reaching the mountain as it was would only be the first of their problems- the route was not clear and the forest had seen no human life before, meaning that there would be no pathways cut through or worn in. If they were going to get to the mountain they were likely setting themselves up for at least a day's journey just through the forest, plus potentially more if they ran into any problems or difficulties. There was a good chance of that as well. It might be clearer following the route of the river, but the banks were likely more exposed and much less solid meaning that there would be other difficulties for them to deal with if they were to take that route- especially as the banks were likely major hunting grounds and probably very teritorially guarded.

"I believe heading towards the forest is probably better, if we fall into the river we could get sick from becoming soaked from the cold water... but it would give us access to fresh water for cooking and drinking..." says Aiden lost in thought for a moment, "Either way will be dangerous and take time. Perhaps going through the forest would be best. We could start shaping a path through..."

Coming into the shade of the forest there was a small gust of wind, slightly chillier than that of the wide open plains, though still likely warmer than near to the river that ran from the mountain. The sounds coming from inside were not the same as from the smaller more temperate forest that they had seen so far, in fact there seemed to be far more Flying-type sounds as well as those that were clearly not the sounds of Bugs but perhaps something similar. The light level was low, despite the bright blazing sunlight, probably because of the towering and heavily foiliaged trees that filled this area in the lee of the mountain. They were tightly packed with only needles across the floor to show any signs that there was growth here in any recent times.

The cool breeze sent a chill down Genki's spine. The promise of a new area excited him. Noticing the shift of light, Genki though a light might be handy. Recalling his Sewaddle, "OK Cyrus, have a rest." He tossed a pokeball above his head, expelling it's contents, Genki lined up for a catch. Prima the Chinchu plopped soundly in his arms. Scritching the top of her head, "how about some illumination?" The tips of Prima's antenne began to emit a low hum as they began to glow.
"I hear a lot of somethings ahead, so keep your guard up." As the advanced Genki studied his steps and tried to be as quiet as possible.

Stepping into the cool shade of the forest, Aiden's eyes tried to readjust to the dimmer light. Listening to the sounds of the forest, he reaches for one of the PokeBalls at his belt.
"Come on out, Mari," says Aiden as he lets out the young Munchlax out of her ball. "Hello again! Ready to go through the forest with me? " Smiling at the Munchlax as the moved through the thick brush.
Aiden will try and keep his senses open anything that could be used for food or any pokemon.

Prima's light illuminated a small patch, though it never quite seemed to be enough to dispel the encroaching darkness of the forest as they pushed their way past bare bark and through drifts of needles and cones. This was an ancient forest, one that might well have existed longer than mankind had, and it almost felt as if it did not take kindly to the intrusion.
Mari appeared with a yawn, "'Lax... Munch... laaaaaaaaax" she yawned, perking up only at the suggestion that there might be some sort of food to eat out here. It took quite a while before they arrived at anything that might be called interesting, but Mari certainly found it to be, she toddled over to a small ring of mushrooms that waited in a small clearing. Most of them were red or brown, with a few spotted or white, but there were two groups of pink and purple ones that Mari went straight for- that was the moment when the group realised they had been glowing slightly, when, as the munchlax grabbed one, all six shook and suddenly darted off deeper into the forest accompanied by a cloud of spores that lulled her into even deeper drowsiness.

"Mari?" asks Aiden as he moves to the Munchlax's aid. "Are you okay?" crouching down to check on the sleepy Mari, he gently shakes her. "Want to rest a bit? I'll let you out when we set up camp again..." Returning Mari to her ball, "Any idea what those were?" He calls back to the other trainers.

"Stating the obvious here, but, I'd say those were pokemon, mushrooms don't have a tendency of running away..."
At first glance, Mari looked alright, probably a sleep power over something poisonous. After the dust settled, Genki crouched down by the remaining mushrooms and the remnant spores. He was curious about what had just extracted themselves as well as the fungi left behind "Mari OK?"

Though Mari looked mostly ok, if a little drowsy, the remaining mushrooms appeared to simply be of a normal sort, in fact several were definitely edible and might even be from varieties they recognised! They didn't get enough of a look at whatever ran away though to actually identify them, though there were sure to be far more to see as they moved through the forest.

"I wonder what kind of Pokemon it was..." he wonders aloud, "I have a feeling we're going to meet them again. Think we should collect the other mushrooms, Genki?"

Pausing with his hand wrapped around a mushroom when Aiden asked, "yes aiden, I thing we should."
He continues to pluck mushrooms that he deemed useful or valuable. "My first though was a Paras or two, but maybe not... I've heard there a Pokemon that are more mushroom than a Paras is but... You're probably right, we'll meet again."
