Wealth. Fame. Power.

The man who had achieved everything in life, like none before him, was the Pirate King, Gold Hatcher.
The few words he spoke at his execution drove people the world over to take to the seas:
"My treasure? If you want it, you can have it.
Seek it out! I left everything in my life at that place!"
Seek it out! I left everything in my life at that place!"
But there are forces that stand in opposition to this wave of pirates. The World Government, bolstered by the Marines and augmented by the Seven Warlords or "Shichibukai" privateers, they seek to uphold their own interpretation of "Justice" while the World Nobles stand above all, high in the Holy Land of Mariejois, descending only to inspect the world they claim as theirs, and collect playthings to bring back for their entertainment and pleasure.
In the background the Revolutionary Army, opposed to the iron-fisted grip of the World Government and the depredations of the World Nobles is slowly gaining momentum and power.
While in the Grand Line, the Pirate Emperors, the Yonko, clash as they jockey for position and attempt to pursue their own plans and dreams.
The four of you find yourselves in Loguetown, the birthplace and place of execution for the famed Pirate King. Your circumstances leading to this point are all different, but your current status is the same. You are bereft of crew and ship, left with only your own pokemon and the glass of your preferred alcohol in front of you.
I will only be taking three players, the fourth is locked in already for my co-GM, Robot. Please take note that the quality of your backstory will have a large impact on your chances of being picked, and that characters without any backstory will not be considered at all.
Players will start at level 5, with 2 starters, with 1 egg move between them, following the rules from the September playtest. The levels for the starters must combine to 15, with a minimum level of 5. Anyone wishing to have a Den Den Mushi may have one at level 1, but it will cost 1000 on top of the cost of the pokeball. No pseudo Legendaries please.
Starting cash for gear is 15,000. Crude weapons cost varies from 0 to 100 depending on the type of weapon, Simple Weapons cost start at 2500 and Fine Weapon costs start at 6000. Depending on the weapon in question the cost may rise at my discretion. Armor costs are halved, shield costs stay the same. Any leftover cash was lost when you broke away from whatever crew or organization you might have been part of before, either as "payment for transport" or because you couldn't get to it without giving away your plans. You may start play with a Devil Fruit, but the implementation must be well-reasoned and explained in your backstory. Anyone wishing to start play as a Mink or a Fishman must note that some places will regard you as inhuman beasts; or as possible slaves to be captured and sold to the World Nobles.
Devil Fruits and Berries
There are two separate types of Devil Foods; Fruits and Berries. Berries only affect pokemon, while Fruits only affect humans.
For the most part Devil Fruits will be simply refluffing the classes of the character that ate the fruit within a theme; with elementalists (with the exception of Maelstroms) usually being Logia types unless a good argument for a Paramecia type can be made. Supernatural classes are also good options for Devil Fruit refluffing, while Aura Guardian can stand as a Haki user parallel. Zoans, depending on the animal/mon chosen will also be re-skinned classes
For Devil Berries, the effects differ by class.
Paramecia would add moves, types or passives based on a theme.
Zoan would allow the Pokemon to have a hybrid and full form of another Pokemon. (Maybe not modifying their movepool but changing their type/stats?)
Logia would force their type to a specific one and give them an ability like Pixelate/Galvanize. Turning other typed moves into their type. It should give some sort of unique resistance as well.
Generally a mon will refuse to eat a Devil Fruit. If they're forced to do so, they lose a point of loyalty, and are Badly Poisoned. If a human for some idiotic reason eats a Devil Berry, they are Paralyzed and Badly Poisoned.
A Devil Fruit is about three to four times the size of a normal fruit. A Devil Berry is twice the size of a standard berry, and both have the same swirled patterns to them.
When immersed in water, especially sea water, Devil Fruit users are affected by Playtest Paralysis with no saving throw. Any swim speed is reduced to a quarter of its normal movement. This effect also occurs when the DF user is in contact with Seastone. This effect ends when the creature is removed from the water or out of contact with the Seastone.

Player Races
While normally you would be constrained to a single elemental class, there are two options that would allow for you to double up due to their Racial Class (which does lock in that class permanently, without the option to retrain as the game continues).
Fishmen: Fishmen are more fish-like than merfolk, usually looking like a combination between a man and a fish or other aquatic creature, such as an octopus, manta ray, or sawshark; however, they still have legs. They also have gills between their shoulders and necks, sometimes covered by their clothing, as well as often having webbed hands. Depending on species, they may have multiple limbs (mainly extra arms).
The Racial Class of Fishmen is Maelstrom.
Mink: Minks are humanoids with animal features. Similar to fishmen and merfolk, each individual takes after a specific animal. So far, the animalistic traits of the minks have all been fur-covered mammalian. As such, fur, which they also refer to as "mink", covers most of their bodies and is considered their pride and joy. Females tend to look more like humans while males tend to look more beastial. They possess humanoid hands and feet, but those based on animals with paws will also possess paw pads on their palm and up to their first knuckle. Through unknown means, they can produce electric shocks known as Electro from their bodies.
The Racial Class of Mink is Spark Master.
Any characters that chose these races and decide to use a Devil Fruit as well will be subject to the weaknesses of Devil Fruit.
