"Our first. We've only been on the road for about a week now" Donovan couldn't believe that it had only been a week, it felt like a lifetime had passed since he left the lab. In just a weeks time he had made, and parted with, friends, almost fell victim to a murderer and possible scientific genius, turned in to a Pokemon, and been tasked with freeing an entire civilization that had been trapped for millenia. Not to mention possibly losing his memory, if what he's found out about Hive Combee to be true.
He hides all of that behind a pleasant smile as he continues "In fact, I think this will only be my second battle with an actual trainer since starting" he laughs a bit at the absurdity of the statement while continuing to walk on

There's a bit of a mock grimace from Enya. "Ah, darn." She gives a laugh. "Was hoping that you'd be further along in your journey so I could trip you up. So, in case you don't know, here in Vesperia each Gym has a philosophy that we try and teach. The one here in Xalibu is 'Sometimes brute force is the only way'. That's a lesson that I've had to teach a few people. They rely on all their fancy strategies and trying to hit weak spots. Sometimes, that just won't work. Works better when people have a few badges under their belt and have developed a pattern."
"Speaking of badges," she continues, taking each of her Pokéballs of her belt and fiddling with them, before replacing them, "I don't suppose you know how they work here. Every badge you get will give an improvement to one of your Pokémon in some way. You can only have one badge active at a time, and it's only for one Pokémon, but it lets you expand your horizons a bit."
"For the battle itself, you can use six Pokémon between the two of you, divided however you'd like. You don't need to decide until the time comes. Each side will have two Pokémon out at once. My Pokémon, of course, have been limited in power in order to provide an appropriate introduction to the League. The battle will end whenever one side has no Pokémon remaining. Any questions?"
She asks the last thing as you arrive in a clearing that has obviously been set up for this sort of thing.

Donovan rolls his eyes for a moment before realizing that maybe he should listen to her, since she's a Gym Leader and all "Well, this seems like its gonna be an odd fit for me then. Brute force has never really been my forte." He says to Mica as he stretches.
"So a Semi Standard six vs six battle. I take it no interference from Trainers? Not like I'm likely to charge in to a fight" He says with a chuckle before shaking his head "But other than that, no questions from me"

"I'VE NEVER MET A GYM LEADER BEFORE!" Mica blurts out suddenly and exuberantly as ever, before breaking out into a shy smile and pausing to listen in on Donovan and Enya's exchange. "I have a lot of questions but they aren't relevant to the battle, and we'd be here all afternoon.". She giggled in spite of herself. "I... Think I will start off with Apex, how about you Donovan?"

Donovan bit his lip in thought for a moment before reaching down and pulling out a Pokeball "I know this is supposed to be about brute force, but I think I'm gonna start with Rose. I started my journey with him and I'll start my first gym challenge with him as well" He says with a smile

"No, no trainer interference." Enya says, wryly, shaking her head, "I don't think you'd want to get close to, say, Myron anyways.""Since you're ready, just move over to that side over there," she gestures to the side of the field to the right of where they're standing. "You can release your Pokémon up to - but not on - the halfway point. I think that's everything." She walks over to the left before tossing out a pair of Pokéballs. "Felicia, Myron, you're up." A pink bovine and a towering purple arthropod appear on the battlefield. The former gives a little bow, while the latter flexes. "I look forwards to seeing what you do," Enya calls over to the challengers, "Show me the fire that burns within you!"MapYou may place your Pokémon anywhere to the right of the L line. The dark green counts as Slow Forest terrain, but is still part of the battlefield.

Tossing the ball up and down in his hand for a moment, Donovan releases Rose onto the field, a determined look on his face " I'm not sure about any sort of fire burning within me, but Rose can show you my thorns!" As soon as the words left his mouth, Donovan realized how lame it had sounded but he kept a stern glare across the battle field Rose initiative is 12
Donovan is 14 if that matters

Mica looks between the ginormous bug, and the cow, and sheepishly releases Apex opposite Rose. It was a little intimidating facing Pokemon that were so big when most of hers she could easily carry or wear. "O-okay! If there's a fire inside of me please put it out though okay? Are firemen like doctors?" Bunching her hands up into little fists she shook her head, that was dumb. "Okay Apex, we are having a for serious battle this time, that means no napping right now, please?". Her tone shifting from commanding to pleading.
(Release Apex South of Rose so it is symmetrical, Mica uses Agility Orders as priority, Apex moves on 11)

Enya laughs - in a kind fashion, not derisively - at the two challengers. "Well, thorns are a good start, but let's see if we can ignite that brush. And, fire inside is a good thing. It means you have spirit. So, let's see it. Felicia, get ready!" The Miltank moves up near the center, curling itself to better receive blows. Miltank uses Defense Curl. Miltank gains +1 Defense, and is Curled Up.

Donovan frowned as the Miltank rolled up "Rose, she thinks the thorns are a good start. How about you spread some across the battlefield? Between Felicia and Apex if you would" Rose responds with by shaking a wave of thorns forward, covering some of the ground in front of Apex Rose is moving and using Spikes

Apex lazily considered his trainer over his shoulder for a moment before getting up on his hind legs and shuffling around the thorny barrier ahead of him. Mica's eyes lit up with excitement, clearly the cooperation, despite Apex's bored expression, meant that he must be getting fired up about this too. "We can't get close enough yet, so maybe do a Grass Whistle like Tot taught us!"
(Mica spends 1 AP to have Apex use Grass Whistle on Miltank through Natural Fighter, AC 6. 1/5 AP Spent)

Enya raises an eyebrow at the shower of spikes. "Really? Do you think hiding behind that is going to do you much good?" As if to punctuate the point, the Drapion races forward, quickly closing the gap with Rose. There's still some room left between them, but it's rapidly dwindling. The Miltank seems to ignore Apex's discordant tones, instead stomping up to him and slamming its body into the Slakoth. It seems to cause some damage, but the sloth barely seems to notice. Or, at least doesn't seem to react. Which is normal. Apex misses with Grass Whistle. Drapion Sprints.
Enya uses Brutal Training on her 'Mon. Apex takes 22 damage from Rollout.

" Rose, more" Donovan says as the little Budew jumps back a few meters, scattering more thorns across the ground between him and the Drapion " And yes, I do think it will do some good" He looked over at Apex getting hit and flinched, before looking over at Mica and giving a reassuring nod Meanwhile, the moment the Drapion steps onto the thorns, Rose looked at it with the largest, saddest eyes he could muster, almost pulling off doe eyes as innocent as Mica's Rose throws more spikes
Donovan uses Focused Training on Rose
Drapion needs to beat a 14 on either Charm or Focus or else it's infatuated for a full round

Beside Donovan, Mica was frantically sketching an image of the Miltank curled up and zooming along, leaving a furrow in it's wake, only pausing to realize that Apex's performance, like hers, had been wanting at first. Recalling the sloth, she put out her little antlion with the intent to run interference for Rose.

The Miltank seems a bit irate that the Slakoth was yanked out from under its nose, and begins to look towards where Rose and the newly released Dusty are. "Oh, really?" Enya calls back to Donovan, "Myron, show them their mistake." The Drapion heads straight for the pair of 'mon, directly into the Spikes. While the thorns seem to slow down the giant bug, it appears to be otherwise unharmed. It does give Rose enough time to momentarily confuse the arthropod, causing the spike it shoots at the plant to seem to be aimed for a less painful spot. The Miltank, however, has no such compunctions, finally getting to a target, rolling into Rose. Even after crashing into the much smaller Pokémon, it gives the Budew a swift kick with its hoof for good measure. Drapion is slowed by the Spikes and Infatuated by Rose for one round. Rose takes 6 damage from Poison Sting.
Enya uses Brutal Training on her 'Mon.
Rose takes 22 Damage and an injury from Rollout. Rose takes an injury from Cruelty, and may not gain Hit Points or Temporary Hit points until the end of the encounter.

Mica watches as Enya's Pokemon corner Dusty and Rose inside of the spikes, she finishes her drawing as the Miltank's hoof catches the Budew right in it's soft face. "Okay Dusty, we're going to do it... show the big bug a Bulldoze!" The Trapinch waddles a scant meter forward, before digging backwards into the soil up to it's neck, looking pleased with itself the ground begins to violently shake nearby.
(Agility Orders on Dusty, Dusty is Initiative 9, Uses Bulldoze in Burst 1. Mica Chronicles Rollout for 1 AP, 2/5 Spent)

Donovan looked stunned as the Drapion made its way through the spikes unharmed and the Miltank smashed into Rose, hitting him a second time as well. His eyes grew wide as he stuttered out his orders to Rose " Umm Rose...Mega Drain on the Miltank! If they want force, show them what you got!" Donovan is using Focused Training on Rose
Rose will miss with a 5 vs AC 2 on Mega Drain on Miltank

Unfortunately, Rose's attack goes wide, the Miltank surprisingly nimble. The Drapion moves out of the spikes, still slowed a little bit, before crunching down on Dusty... which causes ice to begin spreading over the Trapinch. The Miltank barrels into Rose, knocking the Budew down. It glances around, making sure to avoid the slowing spikes. Mega Drain misses Miltank. Trapinch takes 21 damage and is Frozen from Ice Fang.
Rose takes 30 damage and 2 injuries from Rollout and Faints.

Mica scribbles the vague outlines of another image before she notices that Dusty isn't moving. "Dusty? Dusty...?!" The Pokemon is completely unresponsive, the girl getting more and more worked up.

When the Miltank takes Rose out, Donovan clenches his fists and recalls the sprout Pokemon, reaching down and throwing out Asters ball " So, this is what you mean by brute force. Fine. Two can play that game" Releasing the Deerling on the opposite side of the Miltank Donovan calls out " Aster, Double Kick, don't hold back. And then Disappear if you would" The Deerling responds with two quick kicks into the side of the Miltank, before changing color to blend in with the background Donovan is recalling the fainted Rose, releasing Aster and using Focused Training as an order
Aster is hitting with both kicks on Double Kick, dealing 32 Fighting Physical damage and then using Blender as a Shift to add to his Evasion
