Shrugging, Ethan approached and lazily pulled a 'dex from the bag. He tapped the cover with his nails a couple times, tossed it between his hands, then finally opened it up and started fiddling with the settings.
"Hey, this is pretty fancy. Sure beats my old datapad"

Hissho walked up to Albus, taking his own Pokedex out of the box with a courteous nod...although the new-fangled device was giving him quite a bit of trouble. He hadn't even managed to get it turned on yet. "Eh? Hmm...maybe...this?," he muttered to himself, fumbling with it.

Within the cardboard bag are the Pokedexes, in the standard cardboard packaging every electronic device comes in. Looking at the devices themselves you find the latest model, fully charged and ready for use. They even have the historically avoided touchscreens, meaning the company figured out how to make the glass as durable as the buttons and case. Albus sighs and nods to Ethan. "Normally we'd be handing these out at a convention and putting the brand on everything. But for more low key events like this the gift should suffice." As far as Via can tell, Albus is what he looks like - a tired and frustrated company rep sent on a rather pointless task. Alaric steps up and retrieves a pokedex just after Ethan, letting the box fall to the ground as he examines the dex. Rio is the last to approach, but she rapidly pulls it out and takes a picture of Tiberius. A few minutes after you receive the pokedexes they all light up and beep simultaneously. Apparently Meridia has met up with Joe, Jesse, Abby and Troy at a local cafe and is inviting you to join them with a group photo including some obviously empty seats. Albus pulls out his own phone, and sighs when he sees the screen.

Amanda starts up her dex once them being given out is what was confirmed happening, and not some sort of confusing trap. One of the first things she sees is that invite, and she frowns. She's talked to more to strangers today than she had in this entire month. She'd rather not push it. Despite the obvious face Ul is pulling right now next to her, one that Amanda is sure that the Ditto is trying pull in secret, but she sees it.
...And it's not working. Not for now. She remembers a bit about 'other pokemon' and other things Albus mentioned coming from this Professor's assistant he mentioned. But... she has Ul. She's got every pokemon in existence all in one body. She doesn't really need more, at least for now. And she's doubtful this pokemon will fall within her search anyway. She wants to get going, to get started. More pleasantries won't help.
"Mr. Dubois? ...I'm sorry to be a bother, but I don't really need a second pokemon for now. Part of me coming here was to give Ul a shot on her own, and if I have a second now, it'd feel like cheating. I'd like to just get started on my journey, if that's possible."

Ethan fiddled around his new 'dex, whistling at how new and fancy it looked. His father clung to his prehistoric model and his mother didn't see a need to update to the higher-end ones, so he'd never really held a 'dex like this one.
Then the screen lit up and he raised an eyebrow as Iota slowly floated his way over Lauri's shoulder to have a look at the new shiny toy.
"Well, look at that. They started the party without us" he said. "Guess we better go join up if we want to actually get the rest of the briefing"

Albus frowns at Amanda, looking like he's taking something seriously for the first time.
"Kid, I have no idea what the Professor is planning here. But if he wants to give you a pokemon its because he thinks you've got potential and trusts you to help him in his research by bringing out the pokemon's potential too. Because I'm here today because he asked, not because the company thinks you guys are going to start dropping large amounts of money on our products."

Amanda steps back a bit like she's been shot. She's silent for what seems like an age, as she looks away, face slightly blushed.
Probably wasn't going to avoid that...
She finally speaks up.
"Alright then..."

Via stands up as soon as she receives the message, grabbing her polearm and slinging it over her shoulders with careless ease. At Amanda's outburst, if it could be called as such, Via's gaze snaps onto the woman, eyes narrowing. She stays locked onto Amanda until the situation is resolved, tilting her head very slightly to the right. Then, she looks to Albus and gives the man a slight nod before turning and heading off to find Merida and the others, not bothering to see if the others are following her yet or not.

Ethan, not really seeing any reason to stick around, started making his own way towards the Café.
"Ey Via, wait up!" he said, before turning to the rest of the group. "We better hustle, or she'll leave us behind. Let's go, then! Oh, and many thanks, Mr. Dubois"

Amanda steps sheepishly away from Via's intense stare, and after she turns to leave, she shivers. Ul stares a bit blankly at the woman as she walks away.
What did I do to get the creepy stare from her?
Once everyone leaves, Amanda hangs for a moment before sighing and following.

As you guys arrive you spot Meridia standing on a chair next to an otherwise unocupied table. She waves to you as you approach and notice the seven pokeballs on the table. You also notice the other four travelers seated at another table that's stacked with croissants - Joe and Jesse seem to be competing so see who can eat the most while Abby watches with a grin and Troy sips an unknown drink with an unreadable expression. Another guy is sitting next to Troy, looking a little older than Meridia and Rio and rather put out over something. "Hey guys! I've got your pokemon here and I've got the Professor's card so we can get whatever we want and actually get to know each other before the inevitable point where you all challenge each other to battles and I have to start lending people money." Meridia says excitedly, jumping off the chair and steeping towards you, a hand held out for a proper greeting. "Meridia Smythe; youngest and greatest of the Professor's assistants." She says, glaring at the stranger as she declares herself the greatest.

Amanda comes up on the scene she was trying to avoid. Even more stangers! She tries to use one of the others as bait for the handshake as she attempts to sit. But that doesn't last very long as a pink spring pushes her out of the chair. Spring-Ul cackles silently before transforming into chibi her again and pointing with a stern (and adorable) face. She sighs and goes over to shake the assistants hand.
"Amanda Greene."

Ethan was a bit taken aback by the assistant's rather... hyper introduction. He collected himself quickly though, and shook the hand.
"Ethan McCormick. It's a pleasure"

Hissho had been surprised by the sudden message on his new-fangled Pokedex. They just kept adding new features to the damn things. Overly complicated nonsense as far as he was concerned. Back in his day, it was just a 'dex. You wanted to have a video call, you used a video phone at a Pokemon Center. It was simpler that way.
Hissho followed the others, still puzzling through the interface of the Pokedex. Although his face was buried in the screen as they walked, mumbling as he went, not once did he walk into someone else around him or bump into something (although he was getting increasingly frustrated). Eventually he just shoved the thing in his pocket. He'd fight with it later. Coincidentally, he decided to do this as they arrived at their destination.
"Muten Hissho," he said, nodding and shaking Meridia's hand before taking his seat opposite the young, upset boy. He'd leave the energetic introductions to the more energetic individuals.
"Why the sour face?," Hissho asked, looking at the young boy.

Via hardly pays attention to the others at the table, choosing to remain standing, leaning up against a wall and crossing her arms. She gives a stiff nod as she introduces herself, merely saying "Via" before falling silent.

Meridia beams as she shakes each of the offered hands and scowls when Hissho addresses the stranger. "Orion thought that the pokemon the Professor picked out special for you guys would be better off if he took them and left you guys with some random ones he doesn't want anymore." She explains.
Orion opens his mouth only to shut it with a wince as Meridia glares at him. She turns back to you guys and starts grinning once more, pulling out Premier Balls with little stickers on them and handing them out. "For Amanda's solo strategy we've got a new form of Charmander created by Doctor Dastin - Be careful with him, he doesn't seem like much of a fighter. For Hissho and Ethan we've got Pyramid Champions - a Totodile for Ethan and a Piplup for Hissho. For the sake of aesthetics or something Via gets the subterranean Turtwig. As for you guys..." Meridia says as you each recieve a pokeball. Amanda's is marked with a blue-black flame, Ethan's with a clenched fist, Hissho's with a hand held in a blade and Via's a dark circle. She turns to the tohers and continues speaking.

Well that's a reason to avoid that one, if Amanda ever heard one. Not that she 'needed' a reason, but it helps to have an excuse. But she is confused... they did already have pokemon to work with, why get with more? And why were these so 'special'? She and Ul look over the ball, and noting the odd sticker.
A special form of charmander? Hmmm. At least they seem to know I prefer fighting with Ul alone. I guess we'll meet my new pokemon later, when there is less people.
Ul transforms into the ball, with the little sticker being her face, and feigns opening a pokeball.
"Later Ul..."
She glances at 'Orion'. Maybe opening up the pokeball he just tried to take in front of him was a bit much. She looks to the others she traveled over here with. All strange stickers as well. Her interest is at least caught, in that none of these sounded 'normal'. They would be worth observing, and maybe something strange would happen if Ul transformed into them? She pockets the ball for now as Ul transforms back.
"Thank you... Meridia."

"Um, Pyramid Champions? Excuse me?"
Ethan looked very confused for about half a second until he saw the fist adorning his Premier Ball. Pinching the bridge of his nose and trying to dismiss the feeling of impending doom he was feeling, Ethan very slowly triggered the pokeball open.
The very clearly wrestling-themed Totodile that materialized caused him to glare at the ceiling in disbelief.
"The universe is alive and it hates me. I swear, I sailed halfway across the glove and I still can't get away"
He rubbed his face, then swiftly recalled his new pokemon.
"He looks nice and is pretty much everything I'm curious about, but by Arceus will my father be insufferable when he finds out"

Amanda blinks a few times as the pokemon is sent out. She's... very confused. Pyramid champion means it's something akin to a Hawlucha? And why does Ethan look so upset about it? She realizes shes staring at Ethan and his pokemon, she looks away. And also puts a hand on Ul before she attempts transformation. No need to mess with Ethan more.

"Thank you," Hissho said, accepting the pokeball. He chuckled as he weighed it in his hand. "I suspect there's a bit more to it than that, and I'd like to hear it from the young lad in his own words," he said in a good-spirited tone, looking at 'Orion' over the rim of his sunglasses with a curious twinkle in his eyes as he waited for the boy to speak. "Hmm?"
As Hissho waited for Orion's story directly he released the pokemon contained within his ball, curious to see this Pyramid Champion Piplup, and just what kind of a pokemon he and Sentry would be dealing with.
