Once there was an island, rich in natural bounty but bereft of life. Exiles from the region of Kalos discovered the island and built a civilisation upon it, one dedicated to the spiritual and physical advancement of human and pokemon alike, no matter the cost. The Kimiya region is home to the results of hundreds of years of alchemy - arcane weaponry, human elementalists, unusual regional variants and seemingly unreplicable artificial pokemon.
Because of this it is a popular destination for tourists and trainers seeking to achieve something more than pokemon mastery with their gym challenges. Traditionally trainers are expected to seek to transcend their base nature and become something more in their time in Kimiya. You are trainers from a distant region seeking to conquer Kimiya and yourselves and Professor Sorbus intends to help you do so.
The Premise:
This is a gym crawl in a custom region, with an emphasis on on character growth and goals beyond the standard gym challenge, themed around alchemy. You come from another region with a predetermined goal, though this may change during play.
The Region:
You can find a map here and more information on the region here. It has a bit of info on the cities of the region and I can share more in the recruitment chat, but you aren't intended to have all the information before reaching Kimiya.
We're using the Elemental Anima setting rules from Game of Throh's, which means every location will be aspected towards one of the 18 types (except most cities, which are aspected to the base type of humans)
The Pantheon:
Though all legendary pokemon exist, most of them aren't important to the people of Kimiya. The legends that matter and the related fluff can be found here.
Character Creation:
You start at Trainer Level 3 with a level 10 starter pokemon. The starter must be an underdog, gets a free tutor TM or egg move (abiding by the playtest rules for them) and one more move on its inheritance list. It may also have a skill background applied to it, and pokemon will have access to all skills.
Once play has started you'll receive an additional unique starter.
No supernatural classes are available at the start of the game, but you can gain access to them later on. This includes material from the Blessed and the Damned, though any available gifts will be altered. The DPDoM research fields are similarly restricted, though the non supernatural classes from GoT are available.
You start with 5000P for items and a basic care package containing the following: 5 basic pokeballs, 2 potions, 3 bandages and a single man tent.
We'll be using all playtest rules except for the d20 capture rules.
Your character has a goal outside of the gym challenge that determines your narrative arc, preferably one themed around alchemy. Sample goals are:
What you should expect:
This game will allow for a strong experience in both a group or divided, though you'll be expected to work together more often than not. Battles will be a frequent part of the game but you'll be expected to roleplay and develop your characters you do so.
Players will be expected to post every 3 days, circumstances permitting. If you fail to do so I'll be using a strike system. After 3 strikes you'll be out of the game. If you tell me you won't be able to post ahead of time I'll be very lenient and there may be times where you're waiting on the other players, in which case you won't be the one on the hook.
You will also have to join this skype chat, and being active in it will boost your chances of being selected.
Recruitment will close on September the 17th. Be warned that I am in Australia and am probably numerous hours ahead of you.

The existence of alchemy as a magical/scientific discipline is basically unknown outside of Kimiya. You're travelling there because the gym circuit is renowned for the 'spiritual journey' it involves and you've maybe heard a rumour about the true possibilities of alchemy. The goals you list are there for OOC reasons as much as IC.
Items are all sold for the listed book price - weapons for the lower price but keep in mind how unusual carrying them around will be. Items with no listed price are likely to be unavailable (eg: Thick Club, Metallic Powder)
Don't feel like you need to write multiple pages of backstory, but try not to be too brief.

- Learning to wield elemental energy yourself
- Learning to change the elemental alignment of a pokemon
- Learning to evolve a pokemon beyond its limits.
