The skies above you emanate a comfortable orange as the morning sun rises above the city of Orebro. The air is sweet, wind gentle, and since the day is still new, the normal big city noise is next to non existent. This serene atmosphere is a wonderful way to begin your first days as students at the Windrider's academy. As the 5 of you arrive at the front door, you can hear the roars of winged monsters flying high above you, and can see hunters riding them, dancing among the clouds in an array of dives and strides. It seems appropriate to be confronted with such majestic creatures upon your first day. The doors to the college are just ahead of you, the last obstacle on your way to this giant school, whose various buildings seem to layer over each other as they rise to the sky. This is easily one of the largest buildings in all of Orebro, dwarfed only by the Queen's castle at the center of the city. Filled with determination, and perhaps a little bit of pride, you approach the wooden doors, give them a mighty push, aaaaaaaand . . . . . . . . . . well they seem to be locked don't they? Congratulations! You are 5 unique individuals currently locked outside of your school!

Having never really dealt with locked doors before, Secus is initially surprised at the gate's failure to open. At first, he assumes there must be something wrong with the entrance for it to fail its most basic purpose, but then he decides that this must be some kind of test by the College. As a child, his parents had occasionally put him through tests of willpower, asking him to do things like balance on a log while holding a heavy stone until one of them returned, often hours later, or to sit in front of a delicious meal from dawn until dusk before he was allowed to eat. It made sense that there would be similar exercises here.
Secus turned from the portal, looking to the other four people, presumably also new students, who stood with him. They were an eclectic bunch by appearances, two being from races he had not encountered before. "It would seem we have some time yet to wait," he said with a smile. He meant for it to be friendly, but on his pale, violet-webbed face, it looks rather sinister. "I am Secus Aeger. It is a blessing to meet you all." His voice does not at all match his unsettling visage; it's soft and smooth, and almost timid.

Fae is dumbstruck. He gazes at the breathtaking Academy, the skies (flying beasts included!!), and the surrounding city. This is a sensory overload like none other; such an enormous change from life in the countryside. Fae can't even believe he deserves to be here, at a place like this. Was Jorel's reputation really that powerful? He comes out of his reverie only when he sees another student try the front door and fail. Suddenly, Fae realizes his human façade has slipped a little! He quickly replaces the illusion of a human forehead. But it feels kind of useless, since everybody here is a different race...hmm. Maybe he'll keep up the disguise a bit longer, just in case. The scary looking elf introduces himself to the group, since they're stuck outside. Secus is a weird mix of gentle and frightening. Fae isn't sure how to react, but it seems like a nice jesture, so he replies, "Fae---uhhh" Oh, right. He was supposed to get a new name. "I mean...faerly (fairly) nice day out isn't it? My name is...umm" his mind races. The longer he takes to "remember" his name, the weirder it gets. He looks around frantically for inspiration, and just blurts something out in desperation. "My name is, um...Flower!...pot?? Flowerpot?" he winces. Dammit, what am I saying? "But, um, my friends call me Fae." He dies inwardly at the stupidity that just occurred. No going back now... His face heats up as he flushes in embarrassment, but he distracts himself by looking around carefully. If this door is locked, perhaps he can find a clue as to why, or even another way into the building.[/font] Perception check:14

As fae . . . flowerpot? . . . fae. As Fae observes the wall itself, he isn't able to find much in the immediate vicinity. The wall extends outward, so perhaps he could walk around there to find something? But upon looking at a pair of banners that reach from the top of the wall to the bottom, he finds there are small holes in the wall beneath them, operating as a sort of ladder

Fae's eyes widen upon realizing that there may be another way in. Eager to take everyone's attention away from himself, he points at the banner-ladder and says, "Oh, look! It seems like we might be able to climb over, since the door isn't working."

Not a test of patience then, but one of ability. Secus thought, examining Flowerpot's discovery. "One moment," he says, crossing his palms in front of his body and closing his eyes. A moment later, a pulse of light extends from his body, affixing to the members of the group, giving their skin a slightly reflective quality. Blessing complete, Secus says, "I have placed a barrier over us all. Should one be fated to fall, the injuries should be lessened."
The Elf then moves to begin climbing the hidden ladder.
Secus used Reflect! I hope it works on fall damage :I Athletics to climb: 8

Sorin shook his head as he realized he was staring at...Secus? He had never seen an elf that looked quite like he did, was he even an elf at all? Maybe he was a demon? Sorin realized he was starting to drift off in his own thoughts. They needed to climb up there? No problem, he handled more dangerous acts back home! He backed up so he could get a running start, getting down into a start position as he prepared to run and jump. "The names Sorin, and thanks for the help, Secus!" And then he was off running to the wall in plans to hump and begin climbing from his point of ascent. He was a little impatient after all. Jump Check=20 Climb Check=16 Sorin tried his best to get above Secus, he didn't want to be the last one in, and being the first certainly prevented being last!

Sorin manages to get a huge lead on Secus, and gets about halfway up the wall, when suddenly both boys feel their fingers and feet get shoved out of the divits. It seems that there were blocks filling in the holes from the inside, throwing both Secus and Sorin to the floor.

"Ack!" Secus exclaims as his bones bend and compress on impact with the ground. "Sorin, are you hurt?" he asks, looking to the Human that had fallen from above him. The Elf stands, dusting himself off - he removes the dirt, but his robes are still in rough condition - before looking up at the battlements, squinting his eyes in the morning sunlight. He waits a moment for Sorin's response before saying, "I think I might be able to get us in, however, I would prefer testing any other options first," he looks to the rest of the group for suggestions.

Sorin lets out a groan, tucking and rolling with the fall, before landing in a crouch. He stood up quickly, patting some dust off of his clothes. "I'm fine, I tumble like that all the time!" He said that a bit too enthusiastically, like this was a normal occurrence for him. Even his clothes looked like they had simply stretched, maybe made with this in mind? "I'm more worried about this door...Maybe there's something something we missed..." As he trails off, he starts inspecting the door and it's surroundings. Perception=10

Not sure what happened, Fae watches as the two climbers plummet back to the ground. It wasn't a very high climb, so he isn't overly worried about whether they're injured. Still, he can't help but hold his breath until he sees the two getting back up, all groans and dust. At which point, Fae bursts out laughing. There's something hilariously unceremonious about two guys falling on their butts.
After a few seconds, Fae finally sighs and wipes tears of mirth from his eyes. Amid some final chuckles, he manages to say, "That was the best laugh I've had in a while. It's certainly nice to meet you guys!" Then he goes quiet for a moment, thoughtful. "Hey...maybe that's the point." He looks around at each of his fellow (almost) academy-goers, and something clicks.
"They locked the door. Now they won't let us climb the wall." Fae says. "That says one thing to me: not that we haven't found the right way in, but that our priorities are wrong. They don't want us to get in yet. Maybe it's not a coincidence that we're all here together, locked outside. I think that we're supposed to get to know each other first. Like, you guys," he gestures to the goblin and the odd, gray-and-red furred creature, "you guys haven't said anything yet. Maybe that's why we're not allowed in."

The goblin gets a bit annoyed about being called out. "Oi the name's Bedwyr Steamgalley and if you want enterance to a place.." the goblin looks down on the disk like think he's floating on "Try knocking. Tavi, Knock." Four legs fold out from the disk as the shape slowly shift to a more insect-like shape with four main legs, two underarms that look good at grasping and two great arms with rather dullish blades on them. the now folded out robot proceeds to take one of it's great bladed arms, fold the blade inward and knock gently on the door with the joint like a fist.

Nearly two weeks, and Hsia is still not used to this 'city': the creatures in the sky (many big enough to kill and eat her), the sheer number of people out and about (all strangers!), the hum of many many more lurking out of sight. She has to suppress an urge to press herself against the walls, or better yet find a copse of trees to vanish in. Recent experience has taught her that that only draws more attention. Trying to hide makes people think she has something to hide; if she acts like them, on the other hand, they assume she belongs there. No challenges, no demands to know what she's doing in their territory. Then again, this place is too big for anyone to recognize all the people who live here, and supposedly humans can't identify one another by scent anyway. Maybe she'll get used to it.
She twitches only a little as one of the humans gestures to her, tracking the motion of his hand (no weapon). "Hsia," she volunteers, her voice something of a croak. Maybe she doesn't use it often? "I am... here to be a hunter. Yes." She watches the goblin's machine attempt the door, keeping her distance and fidgeting.

As the floating mechanical abomination starts bashing its robot face into the door, locks can be heard on the other side being undone. Alot to be specific. Enough to make one believe they have a golden goose that can do long division back there. The door opens to reveal a timid fox (deer maybe?) kin with his ears perked back. He looks at you all through the cracks, and you can barely get a read on his appearance "Um . . . hello?"

As the door inches open, Secus grimaces internally at his and the group's initial oversight, and attempts to shrug off his embarrassment at this, and Flowerpot's mirth at him falling off the wall. "Hello there!" he says with his warmest, friendliest, still-rather-terrifying smile. "We are here to learn how to be Hunters. Could you allow us entry?"
As he is speaking, he also attempts to peak around the young-looking fox (obviously. No cloven hooves) kin, to catch a glimpse of the inside to the college. Now that he's finally here, and the gates seem about to open, he feels a sense of excitement and anticipation.

Secus's attempts at charm could've gone worse. I mean, technically the fox/fawn's face could've literally melted off and gotten a degree in liberal arts, so I'm just saying there were more horrid scenarios available. The kin lets out a high pitched yip and he slams the door with the vigor of a drunken dwarf whose mother was just insulted. In a similar order as before, you hear an absurd number of locks being locked in quick succession.

That was very rude of the deer/fox guy, he could have at least told them why they weren't allowed inside instead of slamming it shut once he was told they were here to be Hunters. Sorin was still quite convinced this was a test, and as such, he needed to find a way around the problem. He couldn't climb the problem, so he'd have to try something else... Sorin snapped his finger in front of him as he had an idea, He took his bag off and started rummaging through it for the parts he needed.
"I have an idea, if I can find all the parts to it anyway...Someone else can try something while I look for them all" Anyone paying attention to what he was doing would notice that he was pulling out parts of a...fishing rod? This couldn't possibly go well. And if nobody did something in the meanwhile, things definitely wouldn't go well.

The Fox/deer can be heard on the other side
"I-i-i-I CAN HEAR YOU YA KNOW!! What are you doing here?! Why did you invite that monster to attack me?!"

Hsia stares blankly as the timid little kin slams the door. Is this place often attacked by monsters? Why would they pick such a frightened little morsel to guard the entrance? Alone? Doesn't make sense. Anyway, she is supposed to be here, she's asked several people and they all directed her here. She even has a letter(!) sponsoring her to the place. She takes a few steps back. Looks up at the door in a sort of measuring way. Then she takes a running leap onto the door, latching onto it with clawed hands and feet and starting to ascend. Climbing roll = 11

Secus was startled as the gate slammed shut again in his face. Clearly something he had done had startled the Kin, but he couldn't think of what it could have been. "I apologise!" he called through the gate in response to the boy's...threat? Were they doing something wrong? "I did not mean to scare you! Like I said, we are here to learn to be Hunters. It is very important that we get inside! I am sorry!" And he does indeed look penitent, and his voice sounds pained, despite there also being a certain steel in it.
How important it is that they get in: 12
