Once he grew accustomed to being carried by the now giant Avanai, Donovan released another barrage of sharp vines, this time aimed at the Makuhita, hoping to take it out before it could get too far Absorb AC 2 vs 7

Desiree's second swipe hits the Makuhita square on, and he stumbles a bit, before continuing down the hallway. However, he suddenly comes to a halt, almost as though he's hit a brick wall. That allows Desiree and Avani to easily close the distance, while Donovan launches an attack at the Fighting type. With that, the Makuhita topples forwards, clearly drained of vitality. Makuhita Faints from Absorb. Donovan recovers 9hp. Each of your Pokémon gain 8 EXP. However, beyond the Makuhita, you can make something out further down the corridor. Something that is probably the cause of the Makuhita freezing up. Crumpled up against the side wall, unmoving, is a Machoke. The angle that parts of it are at makes it unlikely that it's still amongst the realm of the living.

"..." Desiree stops in her tracks, reminiscent of the Makuhita, and stares. Her body starts shivering slightly. "...Oh Arceus," she whispers, voice weak. "I assume this is-... was Madine?" Her voice is a little stronger as she shakes her head, eyes closed. "This is horrible. But we need to move on. It's not safe here if something or someone can do that to a Machoke." She pauses. "We should really leave shouldn't we? But I feel like if we do that, we'll never get to the bottom of what has happened to us and what the temple's deal is." She sighs and looks at her friends. "What do you want to do?"

As the Makuhita fell, a smirk began to form on Donovan's face "See this could have went so mu-" His words stopped mid sentence as he sees what Desiree points out ahead of him.
Holding back vomit he trembles slightly, his voice halting a few times as he speaks "I....I think we have to find whatever did that....Or...Whoever did it....And I think we all know who it was and why we have to stop her." a disgusted look crossed his face as he began to take a few steps forward towards the body "Kidnapping was bad enough but murder is something entirely worse....."

Avani was in silences as she stared, curled ears drooped low as an almost pained look crossed her face. She jumped lightly as Donovan hopped out of her hands to toddle forward, sighing softly afterward as the motion had snapped her back to her senses. "...I think we should keep going... If these Pokemon were acting as some sort of guardians, then I think it's safe to assume they would have known what was around here. Whatever did that... Who ever did that.. came from outside like us. And I agree with Donovan... I'm pretty sure it had to have been Axiom. But that also means she is a lot more powerful than we probably even imagined," she spoke, slowly walking up to the mangled Pokemon and gently resting a paw against it's head. "I'm sorry all this happened..." she whispered, "Please find some peace..."
She stood up, looking back to the two as her ears pulled back and a scowl crossed her face. "Even if it's impossible, we have to try and get her out of here. These Pokemon don't deserve this."

Desiree smiles a little. "I fully agree with both of you. We can't let Axiom do as she pleases. In that case let's get going." With that she starts moving further down the corridor, a determined look on her face.

As you hurry down the largest corner, you get the feeling that following it, rather than any of the myriad side halls, will take you where you want to go. Any time that doubts rise in your mind, they're generally dispelled by seeing one or more collapsed Fighting-types. Luckily, these all seem to still be breathing, and in no immediate danger... but they sure won't be waking up for a while.
Eventually, after what seems like an eternity, the hallway ends. You find yourself on a bit of a balcony, with a set of stairs on either side leading what seems like an entire story down. The room is large, much more so than the one you entered in. Decorating the floor are what seem to be glowing orange runes that are constantly shifting their shape. They're faint at the edges of the room, growing stronger towards the center. At the very center of the room, drawing your attention, is a raised pedestal, also with the shifting runes. Inset on the top is what looks like a large rectangular orange tablet.
And it's around this pedestal that the conflict in this room seems to be located. Hanging back closer to the periphery, clearly nervous, are a handful of first-stage Fighting types. Closer inwards is a Hawlucha, almost collapsed on the ground and breathing heavily, and a Lucario who's supporting it, fangs bared in a snarl.
And at the center of it is an entanglement between a large four-armed fighting type, and an equally large - and equally limbed - Pokémon. It's not one that you've ever seen before, with a red body, shot through with streaks of blue. Four tentacles flow from its side, and in the center of its chest is a gleaming purple crystal, glowing with internal energies. Currently the Machamp seems to be at least holding its own right now, having each of the strange Pokémon's tentacles in its four arms, the other not seeming able to struggle free.

As Donovan watched the conflict below, his mind began to race. He had no idea what that Pokemon was, but all of the fighting types seemed to be struggling with it. With a deep breath, the little sprout took a few hops forward, towards the fighting types, before looking back at his friends and smiling a little.
Turning back with an exhale, Donovan speaks up "Come on now! I thought Fighting types were known for their strength and bravery? Standing back and cowering is for Grass Types like me!" His voice trembles, the last time he spoke to Pokemon in here they attacked immediately, but he pushed through the fear "How can you just sit back and cower as that Machamp fights alone?"

Desiree barely had time to take in the glowing runes on the floor, though she wasn't exactly able to ignore them either. Her focus went from staring at the incredibly intimidating and scary looking tentacled being that Axiom must have become, to the orange tablet which she assumed was being fought over, then to the rest of the room, looking at the Fighting-types that stood around as well as noticing the injured Hawlucha being held by a Lucario. Just what kind of monster is Axiom now, to be able to take on all those Fighting-types and a Machamp? A brief burst of jealousy ran through Desiree at Axiom's apparently incredibly powerful form, before it was replaced by righteous anger and disgust as she remembered just what the criminal had done with that form.
She was going to step forward, but stopped in surprise when Donovan did so instead. Her face lit up at the brave speech that Don gave and she walked to stand next to him, patting the Budew with a paw. She didn't say anything, wanting to both simply give him some support and hear what the response was going to be.

Avani's eyes were alight with glimmering excitement at first, flashing over the room, the runes, the tablet... and then her expression fell grim as she took in the time to see what was going on. Everyone was cowering outside a small few, and they were seeming to have trouble as it is. Just what was that? Avani watched as Donovan moved closer, spoke out, and Desiree soon following. She shifted a bit, conflicted in her fight or flight response before she toddled forward as well, though remained silent as well as she awaited the response... But who was to say that they wouldn't turn on them, thinking they are with the creature?

At Donovan's words, every head in the room immediately swings towards him. The Lucario yells back at him, with disgust, "Bad enough that you invade our home. Now you insult our intelligence, and try and get us to throw our children into battle. Leave them out of it!"
Taking advantage of the distraction, the presumably Axiom-creature stops struggling, and teleports out of the Machamp's grip. You get the feeling that she just realized that she could do that, because she just floats in the air aimlessly for a few moments. She swiftly recovers, though, drifting next to the pedestal and reaching for the tablet, two tentacles merging to become a hand. The Machamp swivels, looking directly at Axiom. "Why are you doing this? They were separated for a reason! You do not understand what you're doing!"
"No," the voice comes back, almost reverberating around inside your heads, from the mouthless creature, "I understand exactly what I'm doing. Even if you might not. You've had your time, squandered it. But I am going to make the most of mine." She gestures, her central crystal lighting up, and the Machamp flies backwards, thudding on the floor, seemingly unconscious. There's a bit of tone of surprise when she says, "Huh. I still don't quite know my own strength yet..." She turns back to her task, and deftly pries the orange plate out of the pedestal. There's a bright flash, and when it fades, Axiom and the tablet are gone, and the glowing runes around the room are swiftly fading to nothing.
There's a moment of stunned silence, with no one on the floor of the room seeming to register what had just happened, before the Lucario turns to the Hawlucha, and says, insistently, which you can just barely make out, "You need to get up. We can't let the rest of them get away."

"Woahwoahwoah" Donovan says when he hears the Lucario "We aren't with that thing. We were trying to stop her from doing whatever it is she had planned to do" He looks down and mutters "Though we didn't do to good a job at it"
He shakes his head, or all of him, before speaking "Loo...Look. We don't want to fight you all....I'm not really sure what's happening. At first I was positive this was a dream but....I don't know what Axiom is trying to do but I want to stop her." He sighed and looked between the fighting types "I know it's hard to believe me since we 'invaded' your home but we really didn't mean to. We followed that monster from the outside to try and stop it. She took someone important from us."
His voice trembles once more when he realized just how outnumbered they were but he continued on "Please, believe me. We don't want to fight or take anything from you. If there is anything we can do to help, just tell us"

Desiree reared back in shock as the Lucario yelled at them. "Oh gosh," she couldn't help but blurt out. Her face was visibly marred with dismay, which only deepened as Axiom made off with the tablet. Anything else she might have said would have been missed as Donovan admiringly found the courage to speak again. This time she thought it might be a good idea to aid him a little, and add something herself. "We're sorry-" and she really did look somewhat contrite for being blinded to the detrimental nature of Donovan's rather undiplomatic attempt at communication, "- we didn't know those are children. We also didn't mean to insult your intelligence, my friend here was simply trying to give you a little more courage, not that you needed it." She looked imploringly at the Lucario and the rest of the Fighting-types. "Like my friend said, we didn't enter your home for the sake of it, we were trying to stop that monster. We don't know what she is trying to accomplish, but we know that it's nothing good, as she has already committed crimes where we came from. I commend you for wanting to make sure your home is safe, but you don't need to fight us, we're not here to hurt you. We come in peace."Desiree's Charm: 14

Avani was silent for the most part, staring more at the floor than anything after the events occurred. A solemn look upon her face as she turned her gaze up to the crowd. "...I saw what she did to that little one in the corridor... and now knowing that it was just a child makes it all the worse," she spoke softly, her small paws clenching as tears welled in her eyes. "It isn't right. How could someone kill like that with no remorse?" she asked, looking to her companions for the answer as tears streaked her cheeks. Her gaze flicked out to the group, gritting her teeth more as she wiped her face. "Do whatever you want to me. I don't care. Beat me, capture me, do whatever. I won't stop fighting to get out of here. If she can strike down a Pokemon like that, then she can strike down countless more. And I will try and stop her no matter how much you try and stop me." She took a breath before relaxing a bit. "...I spoke words of peace to your fallen child, and even now with your aggression to us I still hope they find peace. You'll probably blame us, the intrusion, but even if we weren't here... she was going to be. We were just trying to follow her, to stop whatever it is she plans on doing." she continued, motioning a paw towards her companions. "And look at us. We're pathetic. Do you really think she would have us as her lackeys if she could do all this herself? We're just children ourselves. Children trying to stop someone far more powerful than we can probably ever hope to be, especially since we're not native to the bodies we currently inhabit... So make your choices, your actions. But I will not let that child's death be unjustified, let alone all the others that might follow if that woman. That... creature... isn't stopped."

The Lucario looks up, and then gestures over a few of the other Pokémon. She seems to tell them something, and then leaves the Hawlucha with them, before beginning to bound up the stairs. "If you want to help," she says, snarling, "Then you can tell me how you got in here in the first place. How did you break the seal? And who sent you? Was it Morania? Lothos? That snake Thalian?" At Avani's words, the Lucario seems to momentarily pause, before her scowl deepens. "It doesn't matter. Did they think that sending children was going to protect them from retribution? An oathbreaker is an oathbreaker. Your false platitudes do not sway me."
She's moving fast enough that she's already almost halfway up the stairs. "Tell me what I want to know, and I may spare you."

Donovan stood in place, legs shaking faster then before, but he didn't move from his spot "We...we don't know how she broke the seal! And no one sent us!" He exhaled in frustration as he tried to think of how to put his words together "See...we're humans. But for some reason when we entered here we became Pokemon. That thing was also a human, I think, named Axiom. She overloaded the door with some special Evolution Stones and some machine that exploded."
Continuing to tremble, he stared down the Lucario "We're telling the truth. Otherwise don't you think we would have tried to run, since we're very clearly outgunned here?"

Similarly and yet differently to him, she was feeling tense rather than shaky. Her muscles screamed at her to escape, to run as fast as she could before she ended up losing her life for nothing at all, but she persevered. Looking deceptively calm, she nodded as Donovan finished speaking and easily segued. "It's as he says. No one sent us. I assume this temple was supposed to remain sealed to all outsiders? Well, humans have been trying to figure out how to break the seal for centuries. It seems one of them managed to find the answer which involved evolution stones and shards treated with radiation. However, this person was kidnapped by Axiom, who seems to have used her expertise to open the seal. We simply followed Axiom inside knowing that she has bad intentions. We did this of our own free will, trying to prevent wrongs from being done." She paused to collect her thoughts and hesitated a little. Following up on one particular statement by Donovan, true as it was, could completely break down communication if they were deemed liars or insane. But Donovan had already brought it up, so there was no point in denying it. "As for us being human, it may sounds crazy, but it's true. You may have noticed that Axiom seemed surprised at what she could do, like when she teleported? Her statement, 'I still don't quite know my own strength yet,' proves that she was still getting used to her new form." Charm to calm down the Lucario and appear friendly: 16

Avani listened as her companions spoke up, deciding to remain silent this time. Though the names spoken reeled in her head, confusion crossing her face. If they happened to get out of here, maybe they could find out more about these people. The history of these places if they could explore just a little more could be invaluable to figuring out just what was going on here. What was Axiom planning?

Standing right in front of you now, the Lucario stares to look at each one of you, listening. "You keep repeating that 'you're human'," she says, harshly, "as if that's something that will give you special privileges. Guess what? It doesn't." "You know," she continues, snarling, "You would be a lot more convincing if you didn't use blatantly made up words, like 'machine' and 'radiation'. Since you seem to think that I'm so stupid to as to keep trying to pull one over on me. Well, guess what?" Her voice rises in anger. "It won't work! So, try again." A blue orb of energy appears in her hand, which she tosses at Avani, hitting the Audino in the side. "If you actually care for one another, you'll sort your facts out quickly."
Avani takes 49 damage and 2 injuries from Aura Sphere.

"Avani!" Desiree shouts in dismay and shock as communications take a turn for the worse. Despite being now aware of just how powerful the Lucario is, Desiree seems to pay it no mind - mainly because she has already realized that they can't fight their way out of the temple - as she looks over Avani for a moment, checking that she is still alive and mostly healthy. Then she brings her full attention to bear to the enemy. "Special privileges?" A short, dark laugh escapes from Desiree's mouth. "We didn't expect special privileges. We expected to be treated like normal living beings, not like enemy soldiers, or prisoners to be tortured for answers that were already given! You sadistic fuck! At least aim for someone who was actively trying to convince you of the truth, instead of taking your loss out on whoever you feel like, you bastard."
Desiree visibly seems to be trying to calm herself down, and her furious expression turns more neutral, though still on the angry side. Desiree resisted the urge to lord the fact that these Pokemon seemed to still be in the stone age over them, not that it would help since she wouldn't be believed anyway. "What the hell makes you think that we would be lying at a time like this, to a vastly superior opponent who seems to be bent on not believing anything we say anyway? The reason I haven't given up trying to tell you the truth is that we have a common enemy now, and that enemy is roaming about in our world as well as yours. Axiom needs to be stopped, no matter how much pain you personally might be in, and if you don't know what the words 'machine' and 'radiation' mean, then you aren't equipped to deal with the human world." She continues to somewhat glare at the Lucario. "We've advanced a lot since the time I presume the temples were sealed off to the natives of this region. What we call a 'machine' is an instrument made up of several parts that operates on energy and fulfills a certain purpose. You might use a machine to removes grass from an environment via a blade that spins through a mechanism, for example."
Desiree realized that she was explaining what a machine was to someone who had just hurt her friend. She looked away for a moment glaring at nothing in particular. "There is a clear difference in our cultures and the level of advancement in tools, and that is not a lie." Desiree shakes her head and glares straight at the Lucario again. "Our original statements still stand. We are here to help, not to fight you, though it's rapidly becoming clear that maybe you don't deserve to be helped. Regardless of that though, Axiom took our friend and we need to get them back and have her pay for her crimes, that much we know, and we'll keep fighting to make that possible no matter how much you hurt us!"
