The little Phanpy, still rolled up, bounced toward the source of the attacks coming its way--Brig. Its last bounce took it high into the air and it unrolled. As it came down, the Phanpy's trunk smashed into Brig, dealing considerable damage. The little pachyderm landed on its feet and raised its trunk into the air, trumpeting out a loud call--clearly a challenge.

Silently, and angrily, Ajax slithers up into a position opposite where the Phanpy is facing, and lunges for it, going for the direct approach instead of restraining it. The challenge has been answered. Val uses Brutal Training on Ajax.
Ajax uses Poison Fang on Phanpy (15 vs AC 3), for 30 Physical Poison damage and Phanpy is Badly Poisoned.

As the Phanpy smashed into Brig, a sickening crunch resounded as the little Nidoran bounced off the ground unconscious...A dark look passed over Matt's face as his hand reached to his side, hovering over Bulwarks ball, before closing his eyes and exhaling a sharp breath, reaching for an empty Safari ball instead, hurling the ball with more accuracy then he had before, the chime ringing out before the Pokeball had even reached the ground.
He sighed as he went to pick up his two captures, looking at the others with a look of defeat in his eyes "I need to get Brig to a Pokemon Center, now"

The Phanpy, distracted by Ajax's assault, never saw the pokeball coming. In the aftermath of the scuffle, however, Brig was left laying on the ground, lying in a daze on his back. Despite his condition, the Nidoran still clutched tightly to his carrot, his foot twitching occasionally. With all of the wild Pokemon either captured or fled, the Safari Zone took on a much quieter, much more peaceful feeling. That is, until it was suddenly disturbed by a boy's shouting. "Behold Scraps, King of the Safari Zone!," came a shout from across the river and up the embankment. It was followed by a loud sound, perhaps almost like a roar. "Raaaaa!" There, up on the cliff, was a young boy around your ages holding aloft a small, purple Pokemon. "Yeah! Yeah! King of the Safar-oh-" he continued to chant, the pokemon going right along with him, but he cut himself short. "Uh...hey down there...heh heh...I didn't realize anyone else was out here...heh heh...," he shouted awkwardly, clearly embarrassed. The little Pokemon he was holding squirmed free of his grasp, rushing down the embankment. "Scraps! Wait!," you could hear the boy call out to his Pokemon as he scrambled to follow. The small purple rodent darted across the clearing, leaping across the small creek, and making a beeline for Brig. The Pokemon sniffed at Brig before turning to his trainer, calling out "Rat! Rat!" The boy, presumably the pokemon's trainer, scrambled after the much faster Pokemon as best he could, plodding through the river, breathing heavily as he finally caught up. "What...huff...is it, Scraps?," he asked, swallowing hard and catching his breath. "Oh no, that poor Nidoran is hurt...," he said in a sad tone, immediately kneeling down and starting to rummage through his bag. He looked up at Matt, being the nearest trainer. "Is he yours? I have some spare medicine that you can use, if you want," he said, pulling a revive out of his bag and offering it to Matt. Congratulations! You have cleared the Safari Zone! Gain 2 trainer exp each and 120 Pokemon exp, divided up amongst participants.
Additionally, the following Pokemon were caught. Please update your pokedexes accordingly:
Matt Caught- Phanpy, Level 6, Male, Careful, Pickup. Knows Flail (not sure if this was an egg move). Sandshrew, Level 7, Male, Careful, Quick Curl. Knows Metal Claw.
Steven Caught- Blitzle, you already have these stats.
Julie Caught- Hippopotas, Level 7, Female, Relaxed, Oblivious. Knows Bite (not sure if this was an egg move). Shinx, Level 7, Male, Proud, Rivalry.
Val Caught- A Cold.

Matt, far more quiet than normal, nods and accepts the Revive, quickly bringing Brig back to consciousness. Making sure the little Nidoran has ahold of his Carrot, Matt returns him to the ball and weakly smiles at the boy "Thanks. Turns out the Phanpy we were fighting could hit a bit harder than I had expected, and Brig isnt exactly made of iron like I'm used to. Names Matthew, Matthew Weiss, but you can call me Matt"
He sighs as he stands back up, his usual energy slowly coming back to him "And what's your name, oh trainer of the mighty Scraps, King of the Safari Zone?" He asks with a chuckle, looking at the small purple rodent

Val sneezes as she recalls the severely-beaten Ekans, who's upset at having its prey stolen from beneath its fangs. "Ugh. I think I'm allergic to something out here, or something," she mutters, sniffing. "All this stuff that wasn't back home. When we check in at the Center, remind me to see if they've got allergy meds, or something. Ugh. This place is nice, but I couldn't stand the whole journey being like this..."

As the battle winds down, Julie begins trudging between both sides of the bank, collecting and managing all of her pokeballs. She sets forth detaching the lock cases from the full pokeballs and attaching them to empty safari balls. Then, she walks over and picks her Petilil up, giving the little grass type a pet on the head. "Good job there. I think I've finally found the perfect name for you: Demi."
Then, she walks over to the others, feet and bottom of her pants soaked and covered in mud. Her face is starting to get suspiciously red, despite a lack of heavy breathing suggesting the color comes from exertion. However, despite all this, there's a wide, open smile on her face. She looks to the others, as well as the newcomer curiously. "Everything alright guys?"

Steven, seeing that the others taken out their last opponent, takes a moment to relax, stretching his arms above him, joints popping as he does so. Looking down at Sirius, he smiles. "Thanks for helping me out there, buddy. Things could've gotten ugly if it wasn't for your help. That flip was pretty cool, by the way." His grin widens as he pats the Riolu on the head, tussling up his fur. "Come, let's see how the other are do-" He stops talking as he notices the kid approaching and sitting down besides Brig. Walking closer, he takes a cursory look at him, trying to get a feel for him. Focusing on his friends for now beyond that, he says: "Well then, that was fun. Everything went okay on you guys' end?"Intuition: mI1_cp|X4d6 Perception: 4d6 4d6·4d6

The newly-named Demi seems to be pleased with its name, and smiles at the pets it receives. Sirius likewise smiles at the praise and tussling of his fur. "Ri-ooo...," he says modestly. Clearly he thought that flip was pretty cool too, and is trying to play it off like it was no big deal.
With the application of the revive, Brig begins to come around. As he gets up the little Nidoran shakes his head vigorously, gingerly patting the spot on his head where the Phanpy's trunk thwaped him. "Tchtchtch...Nid, nid," he says, smarting at the tender injury. The Nidoran shares a brief conversation with Scraps, the purple rodent, before Matt recalls him, carrot and all.
Now, with everyone converging together, you were all able to get a good look at this new kid. He seemed utterly ordinary, just like a regular kid. He was wearing a striped t-shirt, blue and yellow, a pair of what looked to be nice, comfy shorts, blue sneakers...he seems to be a perfectly normal, if embarrassed, trainer.
"Oh, yeah, I guess you heard that, heh heh...," he said, his face growing red, in particular his ears. Scraps, on the other hand, puffed out his chest in a very regal manner and began to strut around. "Rat. Tata. Rat." This garnered a laugh from the boy, helping to relieve his nervousness. "My name is Joseph Yuengling the Third, but that's kind-of a mouthful, so all of my friends just call me Joey," he said with a smile, extending his hand, "Nice to meet you, Matt! Yeah, the pokemon in here are pretty strong...and this is just in the new trainer zone, too."

Matt accepts his handshake "Good to meet you Joey. Brig just went down to a lucky hit is all. And I sort of forgot he isn't a walking brick like Bulwark, my Aron." He turns to Julie and Steven "Yeah, everything is fine. Brig got hit pretty hard by a Phanpy, but I caught it and Joey here gave me a Revive, so he's already back up and raring to go."
He felt at his side, two more Pokeballs added since they entered "I actually got a Sandshrew as well. Maybe I should start being a Ground Type trainer instead" He says with a laugh
"Well Joey, new trainer zone or no, I think we're looking for the quickest exit, right guys?" He asks his friends with a hopeful tone in his voice

"An exit would be good, yes," Val agrees, "We're... kinda a little bit lost. So, being able to be pointed in the right direction would be nice, thank you."

At the mention of leaving, Julie's bright expression drops somewhat, and she gives a disappointed: "Oh, we're leaving already?"

Steven nods at Matt's question. "Probably for the best. I wanna get my mon healed up and see about getting us some on the house lunch." He raises an eyebrow in confusion as Val mentions they're 'lost'. "We're lost? The entrance is, like, over there" He points his thumb over his shoulder to the cliffs. "We were up there about an hour ago..."
He grins at Julie. "What's the matter, Jules, haven't gotten your fix yet? We've been out here for a while now, you've caught, like, twenty mon and our own mon are getting beat up." He frowns a little as he touches Leila's ball.

"Oh, uh, really?" Val asks, flushing a bit, "I thought we'd gone further. I guess my sense of direction isn't working very well right now..."

Julie blinks and tilts her head at Steven, not quite understanding. "My fix? We're in the safari zone, in the safari zone you catch pokemon, it's what you do..." She pauses a moment, and a slightly guilty look crossing her face. "Also, I hadn't quite realized your pokemon were hurt so much, Demi and Cloak are still both able to keep fighting for me."

"Oh, that's up this way," Joey said, pointing up the cliff. "I was just heading out myself. C'mon, I know a shortcut."
Following Joey's lead, and his shortcut through the forest, it didn't take long for you all to make it to the exit. Along the way you learned that Joey was living on this island with his older brother, and just getting ready to set out to challenge the Orange League with some of his friends.
The walk back was fairly easy going, and on leaving the Safari Zone you had to turn in your remaining Safari Balls and provide a list of the Pokemon you encountered and captured, for conservation efforts. After that, it didn't take long to reach the Pokemon Center, but by the time you did, Val's symptoms looked to be more severe. It hadn't been a particularly arduous walk, but despite that she seemed flushed and fatigued.
The Pokemon Center was very nice, much larger than any of the Centers you were used to, and had a second floor devoted to the "Global Trade Network". It was very busy and bustling with activity. As you all waited in line to have your Pokemon treated, Joey spoke up with an idea.
"Hey, so this is just an idea, but me and my friends have a time slot booked over at the Battle Arena later today. Normally we just swap off against each other for training battles, but why don't you guys come join us? We can do a big team battle, you guys against us!," he suggested excitedly.

Val heads up to the others, coughing a little bit, making sure to keep a safe distance. "So, uh, bad news, guys," she says, "It seems that I've managed to catch... well, something, they aren't sure what, while here. But, I'm going to have to stay here for a bit, until they can figure it out, make sure I don't need to take anything. Probably for the best, I don't want you guys to catch it. So, please, don't hang around waiting for me. Once I feel better, I'll make sure to catch up." She gives a wave and a smile, before returning to the back of the Pokémon Center.

Steven smiles a bit sadly as Val says she's staying behind, but nods understandingly. "Good luck getting better, Val. Hopefully we'll run into you again sometime."
He then turns to the overly excited Joey, grinning widely. "If the others are fine with it, sure. After our mon get patched up and I get some food in me, at least. Maybe some training while we're waiting as well..."

Matt frowned as Val showed signs of getting worse and decided to stay behind. Pushing a piece of paper into her hand, a serious look crossed his face "This is my contact info, as soon as you're better, get in contact with me and I'll try and find a way to get you to us quicker. I'll send a boat or something. Just get better"
When Joey brings up the idea of a battle, Matt snapped back to his regular cheery mood. Resting his hand on Bulwarks ball, a smile crossed his lips "A chance to take on the King of the Safari Zone? I couldnt turn that down!"

As Val worsens, Julie's cheerful demeanor fades into worry and concern. However, there isn't much for her to do, so she stays silent for the majority of the time. As Val gets taken away she frowns, and quietly says, "We'll see you sometime later, alright?"
At Joey's offer, Julie slowly turns to look at the others, obviously rather distracted. Now that they're inside, it's rather obvious to everyone except Julie that she's sunburned, her skin a bright red. "Hmm? Yeah sure, that sounds alright, I guess. Could be fun... I guess."
