"Throwing stuff at humans is fun. Especially when it splats on their faces!" The red monkey seems to find this last part particularly amusing as it howls with laughter.

Clay chuckles wryly. Yup, that's a familiar attitude all right. Though of course he was the only human around, growing up with the troop, so they mostly threw stuff at each other. Or occasionally at other Pokémon.
"Heh, makes me homesick." They spent all that time wandering around the woods and never actually got close enough to the troop's side of the mountain to see them again. "I used to throw 'em at Mankey, though. It's pretty hilarious if they can't reach you, they just kind of jump up and down screeching. Sometimes they start beating each other up instead of who they're mad at. That's a long way from here though."

The red monkey makes raspberry noises at the mention of Mankey. Apparently its not fond of them either.
"The best thing to do to Mankey is throw flaming poo at them! Then they're covered in poo AND on fire! It's hilarious!"

Clay grins. "Yeah, but I'm not a Fire-type so the flaming part is hard. Sis is better at it." He pulls out Fan's apricorn ball and releases Fan, who chatters a greeting up at the red monkey. "Those guys are jerks. Are they a problem around here, too?"

"Nah, not really. More dangerous stuff than Mankey or Primeape in here. My cousins and I usually stay near the edge of the forest to avoid the nastier Pokemon."
Fan seems unfamiliar with this type of monkey, but that's to be expected if they're forest dwellers. She makes fast friends with the fire monkey, however.

"More dangerous stuff" reminds Clay of his other interest in this area. "I know there's some nasty stuff around here. You ever see big snakes with pointy things on their tails?" He thinks that's more or less how Rei's description of the poachers' Pokémon went. "Maybe with humans around?"

"Seviper (the snakes) aren't that common, but they're in there. Usually they only go after Zangoose though. Only humans we've seen are the ones on this big path you humans cleared (talking about the road)."

Well, darn, so much for that. He can understand that Pokémon that don't get targeted don't pay much attention to the poachers but it still makes things frustrating. Maybe he should make another trip up to Cerulean, only he'd probably be too busy trying to make up to Kalani for his little episode of foot-in-mouth problems to ask around much... and anyway, tomorrow he needs to be back home to see Ashley get beaten by Tiki's army of fluffy things.
"Eh, it was worth a shot." He looks up at the monkey curiously. "Cousins, huh? Just how many of you are there up those trees?"

"A lot! Water, grass, and fire like me. We don't get a lot of visitors, but we have tons of games to play, so it's pretty great. If you do visit again, don't let the elders bore you with talk. They like to do that."

"Elders always do. It's always 'When I was your age we had to swing uphill, both ways, in the snow! And we were thankful!'" Clay sticks out his tongue. "'Course, my elders could also punch boulders in half so you couldn't really be rude to 'em. Joke's on them, though, sis and I can do that now too."
He considers this for a moment. "Don't know why the snow mattered, anyways, they could just melt it. Elders are weird like that sometimes."

Pansear scratches his head. "How is swinging uphill any more difficult than downhill? Snow wouldn't even affect it unless your vines were frozen!"

"Don't ask me. Sometimes it's swinging, sometimes it's just walking. Never made sense to me anyway, I think it's just something they say. Humans do it too, actually. It's always 'young folks these days have it too easy, they got no respect'." Clay makes a talking motion with his hand - blah, blah, blah.
He glances around at the sun and looks surprised. "Oh, wow, didn't know how late it was already. I oughta head home. See you around, maybe? I'm sure I'll be back this way sometime, maybe we'll run into each other again."

"Might not be me, but if you come out here again, you're bound to run into one of my brothers or sisters (or cousins). They all look kinda like me, but my cousins are blue or green. You're a weird human, but I like you! I'll be sure to tell the others to keep an eye out for you. That way they'll know you're a friend-human."
As you bid farewell to Pansear, it vanishes back into the trees.

As Clay is walking along Route 1, hoping to bump into fighting types without having to travel too far, he feels a shaking in his bag. Opening it up, his Poke Tome (that mystical book that has info on Pokemon) flies out all on its own and begins fluttering around his head!

"What in the...!" Clay opens his bag and watches in astonishment as that darn book flies out. That thing's been irritating if only because he doesn't find it quite as useful as it's meant to be. He wasn't expecting it to come to life, though.
"What is this?" Clay doesn't even. He ducks his head and tries to dodge away from the flapping book - even if it's not hostile, those heavy covers flapping around his head make him nervous.

The book continues fluttering around your head for several minutes, frightening other travelers who quickly move to the far side of the road to avoid your clearly possessed book. It seems like if you wanted you could smack it right out of the air, but who knows what kind of reaction that would provoke? Right now it seems content to terrify passersby and annoyingly keep you stuck in place.

Clay frowns up at the flying tome. It's clearly mostly trying to spook people - him included. Maybe it's a Pokémon? Some sort of ghost, maybe, it seems like their sense of humor.
He tries to talk to it, reaching out carefully with the power he's more aware of now. "Hey there? Why are you pretending to be my book?"

Reaching out reveals that it is indeed a Pokemon! A Pokemon that has, quite literally, possessed your Poke Tome. It flutters down to eye level and the pages fly by at crazy speeds until it lands on the one it was looking for. A somewhat faint voice emerges from the Tome.
'Hiya! I'm Rotom! How come you're not scared like the other humans?'

"I've seen scarier stuff than a flying book." Also Clay doesn't actually know what 'possessed' means and is only really aware of ghosts in the context of Pokémon, so their mere presence doesn't really scare him. He's only sort of even guessing this one's a ghost based on its temperament. He gives the Rotom a small smile. "You startled me pretty good, though! I wasn't expecting this thing to come to life."

It's around this time that Clay notices that the Tome isn't actually displaying Pokemon information like it normally does, and is instead showing a semblance of a face! Which...is probably how it knows what's going on. That makes sense. Still weird to see a book with a face in it.
'I can possess (take control of) other objects too, but they have to be really magical or I can't do much with 'em.'
