"Well that's good. You look able to take some damage, I was just just being cautious and nice."
Rei smiles as the man gets up.
"Well I guess we'll handle it from here so it doesn't bother you anymore, ok?"
She walks over to the two, and as she tries to usher Clay outside, she holds out her umbrella in front for a moment to catch her off-guard before opening it and shouldering it.
"Now hold on Miss. I'm unsure of where you come from but we don't openly force people into battles they might not want to be apart of. That is unless..."
Rei looks to Clay.
"...Clay 'wishes' to accept your challenge. And I'm afraid no 'can' be an answer."

The girl affixes Rei with a glare. "Don't butt in, girly. This is between me and him. Besides, he's not going to say no, so it doesn't matter."

Rei steps more in the way.
"He's my friend, so I 'am' butting in. Give him at least a chance to answer your challenge."

It takes Clay a moment to respond. Mostly this is because he's leaped to a conclusion. "... You can talk to them, too?" Having finally absorbed that this is more than just a talent for Pokémon language, he's finally aware of how rare this is - everyone he talks to says they've never run into someone else with this ability, and now he thinks there's one standing in front of him.
He puts a hand on Rei's shoulder gently. "Rei, it's okay. I do want to accept her challenge." He fixes the girl with a glare. "'Specially since if you lay a finger on somebody still hurt I'm going to whack you into next week. You want this fight, you gotta learn not to pick on my friends."
Clay heads outside with them, considering who's going to start off the fight. Finally, he selects Tavi's apricorn ball, and the Dewott flourishes his scalchops as he appears. Clay unslings his staff from his back and plants an end in the ground. "C'mon, Tavi. Let's show her what we can do, huh?" "Dewott!" "Forsooth!"
Clay breathes in deeply, his aura gathering into a blue light on his forehead. A similar light begins to shine from Tavi's eyes as he crosses his scalchops and concentrates on his foe. Neither of them go straight for their opponents just yet, waiting for them to make the first move.

Brenda (she does eventually introduce herself) picks up a stone hammer from its resting place against the nearby wall and charges into battle. She closes the gap between herself, Tavi, and Clay, and swings it in an arc to hit both of them.

Rei nods and backs off when Clay confirms he does want to battle. She follows, regardless, as she doesn't trust this girl to play fair or safe, and wants to make sure everything is alright.

"Ow!" That hammer hits hard. Apparently letting his opponent get the first move and waiting for an opening was a mistake. But even if it sends Clay stumbling back with a bloody nose, it's still not as bad as poor Tavi, who gets caught between the hammer and the Teddiursa's claws and goes down right away.
"Okay, new plan. Cautious strategy sucks. Come on, Kaa!" Clay actually releases the Servine some distance away, out of the melee. Then he lashes out at Brenda with a shattering blow and uses the momentum to spin himself back, hissing out, "Now!"
Back, as it turns out, is "back out of the blast radius", as Kaa's attack fills the air around Brenda and her Pokémon with a storm of sharp-edged leaves. That, and Clay and Kaa are now far enough apart that Brenda will at least have to split her and her Pokémon's attentions.

The Teddiursa sucks on its paw for a moment, reveling in the taste of that sweet, sweet honey.
Static/Free: Teddiursa uses Honey Paws to trade in the Honey food buff as if it had consumed Leftovers.
Moments later, it turns its gaze towards Kaa and roars fiercely in a cute manner (making some onlooking girls go "awww!") as it rushes him with sharp claws.

Clay's plan to split the two seems to work, as Brenda chases him down, dropping the hammer along the way. She leaps forward and lands a solid blow to Clay's chest; and it hurts. Probably nothing too serious (compared to what that hammer could have done!), but enough to knock the wind out of a person.

"Oof!" That may or may not be a cracked rib; even if it is, it's more likely from the hammer than the last hit, but either way Clay staggers back, leaning on his staff. Yeah, more direct fighting might be a bad idea. "Nngh, the heck did you l-learn to do that? Tackle him and get back! Make him keep his distance!"
The Teddiursa's claws score Kaa's scales, though he looks more offended than hurt. He whips his tail around at the Teddiursa, smacking it hard to try and force it away before slithering back himself.

"Not that, the hammer thing! The troop sure never taught me to do that."
He hisses between his teeth when Kaa goes down. Somehow stuff like this always happens on days he's trying to train up the lower-level members of his team. "Okay Peng, your turn!"
The Farfetch'd quacks out his battle cry as he's released. Clay's eyes close for a moment as he concentrates, a yellowish aura glowing around his and Peng's shoulders. "Strike, now!" Peng charges the Teddiursa with his leek held out at his side, bringing it up for a sudden blow as he passes.

"What? Oh, I can do all sorts of things with hammers. Not entirely sure where I picked it up from either. It just kinda comes naturally to me. Well, that and being able to hurt myself to get stronger. Over the years of training, I've learned to gain slight power boosts from pain. The more hurt I am, the harder I hit back. I don't think I could teach you that though, if you were curious. You don't seem the type."
Terry the Teddiursa staggers, but comes right back in again. "Fierce little guy, ain't he? Terry gets stronger every day, and I can't wait to see him evolve someday." Brenda comments. Clay can still see a fire in her eyes, a lust for battle.
Terry lunges at Peng, then catches the bird with a sudden backhand strike when it tries to avoid the obvious fake-out.

Frankly, Clay wouldn't have minded staying in the fight himself, it's just that he's pretty sure if she hit him with that hammer again she really would knock a hole in him and he'd be just as bad off as Rei. He really needs to find a good way to get tougher. "But yeah, I don't think I could do the power-from-pain thing. I do better when I keep things short." He winces. "Shouldn't'a let you get the first hit in. Use the turning cut!"
Peng squawks something about Terry's lack of honor - then again, given the way he hit Tavi in the back, that was already obvious. He flutters up into the air slightly, then dives at Terry, almost too quick to be seen even as he slashes at the Teddiursa with his leek - down, then back up.

Rei watches worriedly from the sidelines, those impacts on Clay were really really strong, and it's surprising he is still awake and talking. Speaking of, they seem to be talking during the fight, so this isn't as bad as she assumed. She still stays nearby, wary of this woman regardless.

Peng squawks in protest as he finds himself thoroughly fried... but when the attack clears, his feathers are singed but he's still standing. "C'mon, buddy, you can do it! She doesn't look too tough - hit her hard!"
Peng leaps into the air and swoops past the lizard with another sudden slash, hoping to end the battle in one stroke, or at least make sure the Pokémon that follows him has an easy win.

Clay winces when Peng goes down. "Okay, come on back, buddy. You did a great job." He's still running behind, but hopefully he can catch up now. "Time to fight reptiles with reptiles. Mufomono!"
The little Sandile snaps her jaws as she's sent out, glaring up at the bigger lizard from her dark eyes as she tries to rear up on her hind legs. "She's fast, but not that fast! Quick as you can now!" Mufomono puts on a burst of speed, racing forward to snap at Heather's belly.
