With Star in the fray herself and focusing on the girl, Clay feels a lot more confident about having Fan attend to the stump thing. Rather than risk another disappointment with hitting things, he figures he'll stick with fire - wooden probably means Grass-type, right?
Fan stays on her toes as the Pokémon vanishes - though she's a little shocked when it comes out of nowhere, she dodges its strike nimbly, still making faces at it. When Clay calls out, "Let 'im have it! Ember!" she gives a triumphant screech before blowing a flickering spray of fire at the stump.
Fan uses Ember! AC 2 vs JQxiAODz1d20; 2d6+24 Special Fire damage, Burn on 15+1d20·2d6+24

The young woman smiled at their side doing well. It's good that they looked to have this battle won, as she is going to fall from the draining seeds either way. She looks to her Bidoof once more. "All of you, concentrate on the spirit with elemental attacks if you have them. Leave the girl to Shinpuru."The little Bidoof wished to keep on its target, but without another ward from his master... It would be a pointless move. He instead turns to the girl, and launches! Shinpuru uses Tackle vs the girl! Ac 2 Normal physical dCZbdTtV1d20 2d6+46

The girl is knocked flat by the super-doof and lays sprawled out on the floor of the cave, unmoving, despite the tassel of the sword remaining wound tightly around her left wrist. Fan has less luck, however, as the floating stump narrowly dodges the spurt of flames.

Clay makes a frustrated noise when the new girl indirectly confirms what he was afraid of - the tree stump is another one of these spooky things he can't hit. "Hang on, I'm gonna tell it we won't beat on it anymore if it surrenders."
His voice drops into the hissing, popping fire-noises of the candles again as he tries to get through to the "spirit". Your human is down. You're outmatched. If you stop the fight now it saves us both some pain. He tries to tamp his frustration down as much as possible; even if he could take his frustration out on the wooden head it would be counterproductive to trying to talk it down. But he's tired, he's frustrated, he's woozy from the sword wound he took, and he feels like he's hitting the same wall he did with the sword.
So he more or less tackles it out of frustration. He has no idea whether he can even knock the floating thing down but he may as well try.

After the 'super-doof' takes out the spirit owner, he hops around in quick victory before looking to the final pokemon, chittering a threat. Despite all the bluster, it can only look cute and nothing else. His owner turns to the others. "That only leaves the spirit. You three adventurers may want to back up, as physical attacks not tied to an element will not affect it. Let them attack without fear, I will intercept any attack coming from it.She spins gracefully to turn to the ghostly stump, and despite her determined words, does not drop her smile as she stares down the manifistation of both her father and grandfather's obessions. Rei will hold her action until the Phantump attacks.

If it were not caught up in a blind fury, the floating stump may actually have been willing to listen to Rei or Clay. As it is, it is focused solely on Fan. It does that little vanishing act once more, lashing out at Fan.

Tiki can feel the little thing is almost done, she re-calls Star, and swaps out Justice in her place. With a big smile on her face she readies for battle. "Get 'em good, Justice!" "Chiko!" The air headed Chikorita lets forth a flurry of sharp leaves at the enemy.
