It seems this lab was testing Mae's strength of will. Starting with the excitable and stuipidly cute Thoundar, and the news story about the Psyduck; it was clear this place was trying to bring the kid out of her once more. Despite wishing to break down and start petting the dog alongside the Professor's sun, she maintains her serious nature. She follows along, taking note of the maps, although she probably understands very little of it.
Tech Roll: dRtQ2yfn2d6
She approaches the Professor, and gives him a quick wary scan.
Perception: 2d6
"Mae Stram."
She says no more, seeing that Marcus is potentially excited to ask a bunch of questions of his own. She'll just let him do it. No need for her.2d6·2d6

Seth looked up from his compass which always goes haywire when around Electric types. "Hmm Oh sorry me name be Captain Seth Ironwood. I must say nice lab Professor it reminds me of the similar lab I worked with but with a bit less water." Seth said still distracted by his lucky compass.
He looked over the Professor studying him. Perception: p8HJ4kNg1-61-6=10
Seth notes the new pokemon but to him it wasn't to interesting. It is cute though. Foster on the other hand climbed onto Seth's hat and took up a protective stance. 1-6·1-6

Marcus's eyes keep darting around the lab. At the stormy dog, the maps, the other devices... (Tech Ed to decipher the map: MtirPr|v4d6 Perception Check: 2d6) ... the place was incredible. When the professor speaks Marcus's gaze snapes tohim. "I'm Marcus Septimia Geta. This place is incredible. What sort of pokemon is Thoundar?" he says, dozens of other questions lurking in his mind.4d6·2d6

"Welcome, to the Cadet town laboratory. The building, and some of the equipment has been here for decades, but until the recent unpleasantness, it was fairly modest. The Bromid region has been plagued with intermittent storms for the better part of twenty years, but the storm a few weeks ago was legendary. As you've no doubt heard, it caused the death of hundreds, did millions in damage, and most peculiarly, caused a sudden...abiogenesis. Suddenly, the region birthed dozens, hundreds of new species of Pokemon, seemingly without explanation, save the storm's influence. Quite baffling really." He strokes his beard as he speaks. "That one, there? That is my son's new pet. I've nicknamed the species Hurricanine for now, and it is obnoxiously loud when it gets excited. You can imagine that a great deal of the instruments in the lab are quite sensitive, and if I have to wrest one more anemometer from that mutt's mouth..." He seems frustrated, but not altogether angry.
"In any case, I can't imagine all of you are overly enraptured by weather equipment. Let me get your things." He turns to an assistant, that hands off three flat devices roughly the size of tablets. "I assume you're familiar with the basic gist of how a Pokedex functions?"

Mae considers the maps for a moment, but a lot of the information doesn't really help 'now' so she keeps the information to herself for now.
"I've never seen one but I'm familiar with the concept. Although I must ask... is it possible for another storm to show itself? You did say the nation was plump with them."

Seth pocketed his compass and gave the professor a worried look. "Professor I hate to ask but what be the story behind the scars on yee arm? Hit by lighting or a Pokemon's Thunder? I hate to think Kyogre's mighty storms be the cause." Seth asked worried for the professor. Seth knows that he is hiding it for a reason.

The professor distributes each of you a 'dex as he says "It is entirely possible, and is something we're trying to predict, and maybe, somehow, prevent. We have to figure out what is causing them, first off."
At Seth's question, he flashes irritation for the briefest moment before continuing, "It is nothing. Surely you saw the scorch mark on the building on the way in? I was adjusting some of the machines when it hit." He pulls back his sleeve to reveal the scarring. It is a lightning burn, fractal designs burned into his flesh. It is quite fascinating, but also looks very painful. After you become aware of it, you notice he shields that arm in everything he does. "In any case, I suppose I don't have to worry about lightning anymore, since it doesn't strike the same place twice!" He chuckles at his dark humor.

Seth could tell that the good doc is still hiding something but he knows he lack the skills necessary to ask further. "Anyway what be the plan from here. Use the Pokedex to gather data, catching Pokemon for examination, or both. I personally would like to see what these "invading Pokemon" are doing to the ecosystem and the natural habitation of native Pokemon." Seth said hoping to move the conversation in a more focused direction.

Taking the pokedex Marcus immediately turns it on and scans Thoundar. "Fascinating." He comments, immediately switching to a region map and frowning at what he sees, then looking at Seth in obvious confusion. "We each have our own goals to pursue. Now that we're registered as trainers shouldn't we pursue them?"

As the lightning wound is pointed out, and the protected during the rest of the conversation, Mae tries her best to respect his privacy and ignore it. Afterall, weather one day decided to be unkind to her. (Although that was 'someone's' fault and not hers but...) She tries turning and feigning looking at the map to not keep prying eyes on him. It's the least she could do.
"I'm in agreement with Mr. Geta. Although I would like to ask if there's anything that can be done in regards to your storm research? Although I have very limited skills, I am willing to help however I can."
Afterall, a second storm summoning even more new creatures would turn the current climate into a capturing feeding frenzy. A good portion of them will end up with good trainers, surely... but... so many will be left in a state of ignorance, caught for the sake of being captured. Without even a lot of time to grow as creatures on their own.

To Seth, "Oh, no, nothing so structured as all that. We understand many regions have the professors hand out Pokedex'es coupled with an assignment, but these days, they're coming with no strings attached. The government believes that the Pokemon Journey is both a cultural enrichment to those performing it as well as economic stimulation to the individual cities. In that vein, they believe journeys should be self directed. That being said though, although the more common pokemon from the Emergence, as we're calling it, have been discovered, there are undoubtedly rarer ones. Perhaps you could name your own species. Regarding your question of ecosystem, you aren't the first to be concerned, however it seems the concerns have been unfounded. The Emergence created new predators, prey, and thus far our results have shown a relatively neutral effect. This is all very preliminary of course, given the lack of time to study long term effects."
As Marcus scans the Thounder, a picture of the species appears in the Dex. "Hurricanine," the device chirps, "Hurricanine becomes more and more energetic shortly before a storm hits. When angry, its growls are so loud and harsh, they evoke the rumble of thunder."
To Mae, Professor Mondrian says, "I included my number in the phone application of each of your dex'es, and I have your number as well, should we need to reach one another. Although I don't have anything at the moment you can help with, that definitely may change. The government is a fickle mistress, and if she withdraws funding, I may need to call upon helpful trainers for assistance."
"Oh, so, it is getting pretty late. If you kids have any other questions, you can ask them now, or any time tomorrow. When you're ready, Tyler will take you to Beth's place. She has a few spare bedrooms for new trainers to sleep for a night before heading out. She also runs the store in town, so if you need anything, be sure to ask her."

Seth took a moment to think if he had any questions that would be useful for the moment. He couldn't really come up with anything. Seth looked at the PokeDex's map to get the location of the gyms, Platinum City, and Argent City.

Mae takes the Pokedex and pockets it.
"Fickle indeed. I shall await a call if one is needed then."
Afterward, she just heads back toward Tyler. Those two will catch up eventually.

Marcus nods at the professor and follows Mae, mentally planning out his path. Platinum City was quite a ways away, so it would be best for him to go with Seth initially, then consider taking a direct route once he had some money and more than one pokemon.

Tyler claps his hands as the group approaches, "Alright, so we're headed over to Beth's place. She's the closest thing the town has to a Pokemon Center or inn, and she puts up trainers for free." You head outside and it has grown quite dark, but the town is fairly well lit and easy enough to navigate.
A short walk to the southwest later around a wall of trees reveals a large home. Nathaniel's van is parked out front. Two signs are prominently displaced on the front. The first reads "All are welcome!" and the second, "We reserve the right to refuse service!" Before you can even get up the stairs of the patio, a barking is heard at the door, and it swings open to reveal an older woman with gray hair, and a yapping Lillipup. Tyler speaks to her for a moment before waving to you all and heading home. She ushers you inside, and with a little small talk, begins to prepare a place to sleep for you. As you look about the room she left you in, the Lillipup sniffs each of you in an endless loop, clearly craving any and all attention. Suddenly, a Meowth walks into the room, and freezes as it catches sight of all of you, then dashes out of the room in a rush, and the Lillipup flings a rug aside as it struggles to gain traction, zooming off after it.
Soon enough, Beth returns, and directs you to two rooms, a larger bedroom with two cots for the boys, and a small room with a twin bed for Mae. "Breakfast is at 7 am sharp!" she says, voice sweet but with a hard edge to it as well. She leaves you in the hallway, and says "See you in the morning!"

Seth when into the room and made a small bed for Foster. He waited for Marcus to come in so he could ask him something.

Marcus enters, looking at the pokedex. He glances up before falling onto the provided bed and putting it down. "Something on your mind?" He asks.

Seth looked up from taking off his gloves. "Sort of I just wanted to talk more about your reason for you coming to this region. You said something about some new technology here and I maybe a little curious about what so impressive. I be not a man of technology but a man of Mythology. I could probably tell you more about Legendary Pokemon then anything about computers. So I be quite interested in knowing more about it." Seth said looking at the markings on the back of his hand.

"You saw Platinum City when we landed." Marcus says lying down and staring at the ceiling. "It was basically unharmed by the storms. And that wasn't chance. They deployed some sort of shield to protect the city." He pauses and glances at the pokedex where he dropped it.
"I've read about teleporters, genetic experiments and harnessing the power of evolution itself. I haven't heard of shields capable of keeping out the strongest storm with no known legendary cause. If that can be done here, imagine what I can learn and create with that knowledge."

Seth looked over at Marcus. "So it be that incredible. I guess that it be quite great if someone could use such things for the good of all Pokemon and people." Seth said. He took a moment and continued. "So you never actually used a teleporter? I hate those things they were all over the base. I mean I'm used to it now but man was I sick for a bit after the first few times." Seth laughed thinking back to the first time at the hideout.
