Nuvema Town was bustling. The small streets barely able to contain the throngs of tourists and competitors swarming the little village. Even on the fifth year of the Tournament, the officials still never expect the turnout to be as large as it is, growing each and every year as the prestige granted from winning grows. The last two winners both went on to win the yearly Vertress Conference and take on the Elite Four.
This year, as the fifth annual tournament, admissions have tripled, and as such people are rushing to sign up before they lose their chance to compete. It;s said that the winner will get more than just prize money and fame this year. A Producer for the popular show "Eyes on Unova" has his sights set on something bigger. A show following a future champion. Chronicling their journey throughout the region and as they take on all eight gyms. The thought of stardom drove people who never would have thought of entering the once small tournament to rush to Nuvema Town.
As the sun rises higher into the sky, four hopeful trainers approach four different tournament officials, ready to begin the next step in their journeys.
Dave
As Dave entered the hamlet, because to him this place was nothing more than a tiny little blip on the map, he looked around. The sidewalks had grass growing out of them. GRASS! There was no way that they would be able to even think about upgrading to a system of transit as modern as Larousse for years.
Making his way up to an official, who looks up from what looks to be actual paper, the man raises an eyebrow "Name and City of Origin? For announcement purposes" He looks back down at the paper, pencil at the ready
Jack
The day of the Tournament had finally arrived and Jack was able to make his way down to the Battlegrounds with no problems, having signed up days in advance. However, once he got to the place where he was supposed to sign in, he saw nothing but a sea of unfamiliar faces, filling the space as far as he could see. Feeling a slight jerk on his leg, he looked down to see Bolt climb up and onto his head, gaining a better vantage point as he made his way through the strangers.
Reaching the desk, an official looking woman looks up at him "Oh hello Jack. Is this the year your finally going to enter the tournament?"
Azrael
The trip to Nuvema was uneventful for Azrael, his mind being able to wander to the skies above, Pokemon and plans both flying peacefully in the clouds. The next thing he knew, he was being jolted awake by the stopping of a car and his parents friends letting him know that they had made it to Nuvema,
The sun was reaching a peak in the sky, as he approached a table with a smaller line of applicants.. When he finally reached the official, the man seemed to be biting the pencil he should be writing with, looking nervously at the paper "Looks like you're just in time. I seem to be running out of space in this bracket. I just need a name and where you're from. For the announcers you see"
Luke
Unlike what his brothers had told him, Luke was able to make it to Nuvema Town with no issue. Which made sense because Accumula Town was just a short distance away. But with little incident, Luke was awaiting his turn to register among the massive crowd. He looked around and saw a few people he know, kids from Accumila Town, and a few who had just breezed through at some point or another. But none of his brothers would be here, of that he could be certain.
When he approached the young lady sitting behind the table, she cocked her head a bit "You a local? I don't think I recognize you. Nevertheless, I'll need a name and Hometown for them to call out when you battle."

Ugh, Dave thinks, wandering through the streets. This is such chaos. How is anyone unfamiliar with here supposed to know where to go? There's not a Block Bot in sight. Barbaric, I say.
Nevertheless, he manages to make his way to the primitive stand they have for administrative purposes. Luckily there'd been pictures, else he'd have been looking for a system like the Battle Tower had. Such... disorganization. Oh well, hopefully the trainers are more organized than their surroundings and infrastructure.
"David Dyson," he says, curtly. Hmm... he's still going to have to get used to the Unovan accent. "That's Dee, why, ess, oh, enn." He didn't need them spelling his name with an "I" again and then someone pronouncing it "Disson". It would be even worse in the stupid Unovan accent. "From Larousse City, Hoenn region."

Luke was happily taking in the ambience, the excited air most of the people there seemed to be sharing, that he too was sharing. Finally a chance to prove himself! And his brothers wouldn't even be here to humiliate him! It was great! As such, he was pretty carefree and happy as he waited for his turn to sign up, waving to a few of the people he recognized. Gawain, meanwhile, was calmly walking alongside him, on occasion nudging his leg and smiling up at his trainer, excited to see him so happy.
When he reaches the table, he smiles shyly at the lady. He shakes his head at her question. "No, I'm from Accumula, ma'am. Luke Towers."

When Jack's alarm had gone off that morning he practically bounded up, full of energy. Today was the day. The Tournament of Heroes... Today Jack got up especially early, letting Bolt sleep in a little later than usual...he could use a little extra rest, considering he was about to compete in the Tournament...it would be the most battles he'd ever fought back to back...and with so much on the line...best to be well rested. While the Pichu dozed for a while longer, Jack got cooking. He made breakfast for himself, and then a big batch of fresh pokemon food for Bolt, packed with energy, nutrients, and flavor. With that done, he started up a batch of Bolt's favorite snack...homemade vanilla wafers. As they smell of the baking cookies filled the house, Bolt stirred, making his way toward the smell. After breakfast, of course, came early morning exercise, and then it was time for the tournament sign-in. Despite having attended the last four tournaments, Jack was surprised by just how big the turnout was this year. And there were a lot of people with strong looking pokemon...and considering just how many people were there, he couldn't really blame Bolt for wanting to get a bird's-eye view. When he finally reached the desk, he smiled to the official. "Sure is! And me and Bolt are in it to win it," he said confidently. He picked Bolt up off his head, placing him on the desk as he leaned over to sign in on the sheet. When he finished, he grinned at Bolt. "You ready, partner?," he asked eagerly. Feeding Bolt Baby Food and doing some early morning training.

Dave
The man frowned as he wrote down his name "Dyson. You'll be in Block A. Your first match is in twenty minutes against a Trainer from Sinnoh, a real prodigy at that"
He pointed towards the grounds for the battle, waving Dave away in order to continue signing people up. People seem to be settling into the seats surrounding the battlefield.. The crowds were nothing compared to be Battle Tower back home, but at the same time, he could tell that this was a large turn out. Hovering above the field were two metallic drones, cameras turning this way and that on the bottom of them.
Standing on the other side of the field, stretching out, was a massive young man, in a garish outfit. It seemed this would be Daves Opponent"
Luke
The young woman smiled "Luke Towers, got it. Well you're going to be in Block B. First fight is in just a few minutes over there" She gestures across the way, where Luke can see people climbing up some bleachers "Your opponent came all the way from Hoenn, so don't expect her to go down easy. Good luck" she adds in with a wink
As Luke approaches the grounds for the battle, he notices a small girl standing opposite him, frowning. Noticing him walk up, she scowls and stares him down, a sight that would be more intimidating if she wasn't dressed in various pastels "I'll warn you now" She says "I crossed the sea to get here. I don't plan on going back a loser!"
Jack
Bolt jumped up and down in excitement at the prospect of finally being able to battle, to really go all out. The tournament organizer laughed "Alright Jack. The two of you will be in Block C. We're expecting a lot from you, you're the hometown hero this time. No one else from Nuvema has entered. You're going to be facing off with a kid who came all the way from Pallet Town in Kanto. Said to have been a pupil of Professor Oak, just like you." The woman smiles "Now go show em you got what it takes!"
As Jack reached his place on the field, he looked across to see a boy about his age, maybe a year or two older, standing at the ready. "I hear you got your Pokemon from the professor too!" He grinned slyly "But that won't help you win. I was able to train under his Grandson, the leader in Viridian City. You don't stand a chance!"

Hmm... A prodigy, eh? Dave thinks, Well, maybe this might be a good fight. Sinnoh's got a Battle Frontier, too, if I remember rightly.
Walking toward the directed area, he once again scoffs at the comparitive crudity of the Unovan technology. Everything seemed designed to only do one purpose. Everything would be so much more efficient with, at the very least, networked devices, if not multiuse devices.
Looking at the man across from him, Dave gives a confident lopsided smile, arms crossed in front of him. Let's see what he's got in store...

Azrael waved as his ride disappeared around the bend, then turned back to Nuvema Town with a grin. While Aethon nestled in his lap, he'd spent the whole ride thinking about the tournament and where he'd go and what he'd see after it, and now he was finally taking his first steps on his own journey. Excited and relaxed, he took the time to take a better look around as he entered the town proper. The packed streets buzzed with activity as he strolled along with the tourists, eyes roving over shiny knick-knacks, commemorative souvenirs, and various refreshments being sold by vendors. It's really not all that different from home, minus the airport, of course. Though it's never been this busy back home. He stopped by one small stall and got a small meat skewer - which, after a single bite, was absently held up for a delighted Aethon as he perched on Azrael's shoulder.
Patiently making his way through the crowd without the ease of those from larger cities, Azrael made his way over towards the tournament's registration stands. After a short wait in line, Azrael smiled at the anxious-seeming official, reaching up and stroking Aethon as he spoke, "That's good news, right? A full tournament's what everyone's here to see!" He spoke with the lingering trace of a smooth Kalosian accent, softening his speech. "I'm Azrael Himlen, a-z-r, a-e-l, him-l-e-n. I'm from Shalour City in Kalos originally, but I've lived in Mistralton since I was ten." Glancing away for a moment as Aethon strolled out onto his upper arm, he asked, "How many people are in the tournament this year anyway?" Aethon fluttered his wings for a moment, then hopped onto Azrael's wrist as he spoke, dark eyes watching the tourney official.

"Thanks." Luke walks off to the indicated area, excitement growing
Luke smiles at the girl in greeting, unperturbed by her rather lackluster efforts to look intimidating. He tils his head sideways and frowns in confusion at "Uhm... okay? I walked here from Accumula" - he waves to roughly the north - "but that still doesn't mean we're gonna let you win, right Gawain?" He grins down at his partner, before turning his head back to the girl. "So I don't know about your plan, but I don't plan on going down easy." He's feeling remarkably confident at the moment, the excitement around him getting to him.

"Wow, all the way from Pallet Town?," Jack parroted as he finished filling out the paperwork. He gave Bolt one of the wafers for him to munch on before the battle. Bolt always seemed to have a little extra spark after eating them.
"Well, don't worry, we won't let you down!," he grinned, standing upright. "Alright Bolt, let's go!"
Out on the field, Jack felt pretty nervous. Knowing his hometown was depending on him, and with so many people watching... It made his heart quicken a little, though he did his best to remain calm and cool. Seeing his opponent close to his own age made him relax a little.
"Sure did! So you know Professor Oak too, huh? I guess it really is a small world," he said with a smile. "Well, don't count us out yet! Me and Bolt didn't sign up just to lose in our first match, and we're not gonna take it easy on you just because you know the Professor!," he said confidently. "I'm Jack, by the way. You ready to get started?," he asked with a grin.

Dave
The man across from Dave smiles before cracking his knuckles and striking a pose "So you're going to be the first person to fall on my path to Victory!?" He shouts "I am the undefeated champion of Pastoria City! Soon to be the undefeated champion of the entire Unova Region!" A cheer goes out in the crowd. It seems a few kids are very impressed with his bravado and have taken to cheering on the zealous trainer
Throwing his Pokeball in front of him, a small bluish purple frog appears, standing on two legs and with a mischievous look on its face "Good luck beating my Partner here!"
Jack
The opposing trainer relaxed his demeanor a bit "Jack huh. Well, I'm Ian. Better known as the future best trainer around! I was taught by the Ex Kanto League champion, so you can try all you want but you're gonna lose here and now!"
He threw a Pokeball ahead of him, releasing an orange dog Pokemon, that howled with anticipation upon release "Blaze here was bred from a long line of powerful Pokemon. He was born ready to be a champ" Ian adds with a smirk
Luke
Gawain jumps in agreement, landing in a battle ready pose pointed towards the girl, before looking back at Luke
The girl flips her hair, before releasing a floating pink bird, though it's beak almost looks like a nose
"You think coming a few miles is the same as coming from another region? You'll need to be at a whole nother level to beat me! I have people watching and cheering me on back home!" She glances up at the cameras and smiles
Azrael
The man begins to nod "Himlen, we'll put that you're from Kalos, much more dramatic that way, might make you look more appealing to the producer. Your battling in Block D. I believe you're facing someone from Johto, but he's been fairly quiet up to this point" He finally seemed to hear Azraels question and ponders for a moment "I'm not quite sure the exact number, but it's a lot"
As Azrael makes his way to where his fight will take place, he sees his opponent sitting on the ground, staring at it. His clothes were dark and his face obscured by a combination of shadows and his long hair. The crowd seems to be looking at him with some discomfort
Seeing Azrael draw near, the boy stand up, his clothing appearing to be some sort of traditional attire in Johto, and he bows before the flying type Trainer "It's nice to meet you. My name is Matthew, I came here from Ekruteak City in Johto. I'm pleased to be your opponent"

"I didn't think the place we come from matters at all... I just told you were I came from cause you seemed insistant to point out where you came from... I'm Luke, by the way." Luke says, his excitement somewhat deflated after the girl's comment on people cheering her on. He didn't have anyone that was cheering him on himself, his parents couldn't get free from work and his brothers... well even had his brothers known he was competing today, Luke was quite certain cheering him on would be the last thing they'd do. Ah well, he didn't need their help. He's certain Gawain and he could overcome any obstacle thrown in their way! Except for ghosts. If they faced ghosts he would be screwed. And he would probably wouldn't fare too well against most steel or rock types either... BUT, other than that, he was sure they could overcome everything.
Luke quickly identified the pink bird as a Spritzee, a Fairy type native to Kalos. He's pretty sure they've got something to do with scents, though he couldn't from the top of his head remember if they just had a good sense of smell or if they did something different with smells... maybe both. Not really important right now. What's important is that it isn't a ghost type, which meant he could at least hit it.
He kneels down in front of Gawain, scratching the Eevee behind his ears just where he liked it. "You can do this Gawain, I know you can. Just do as we trained, 'kay?"
He stands back up and faces the girl, smiling slightly. "Let's see who of us needs to be on another level then."

"Pastoria City?" Dave says, shrugging, not losing the lopsided smile. "I've never heard of it. Can't have been very impressive if you managed to get to the top without a single loss. Losing drives you harder, makes you get better. And you're going to find that out very shortly."
"Keep your luck," he says, dismissively. "Skill serves me better." He releases Hal nonchalantly. "Besides, you'll need it."

"You're pretty confident Ian," Jack said with a grin as the boy sent out his pokemon. "A fire-type, Growlithe...and he looks pretty strong...," Jack said to himself, holding his chin thoughtfully. He looked to Bolt, who was standing on his shoulder. "Alright buddy, we're gonna have to keep our distance from Blaze. That's the plan. Keep away, then once you're ready, attack!," he said enthusiastically. With that he sent Bolt onto the field, keeping a considerable distance between Bolt and Blaze. He smiled at Ian as he boasted about Blaze's lineage. "Well, Bolt's a pretty special Pichu himself," he said, running his finger under his nose. "Alright, you ready to get started, Ian?," he asked eagerly, striking a battling pose. Bolt is initiative 14, 18 after trainer actions.

Pulling on his cap as he walked, Azrael took in his opponent's appearance, noting the bubble of space the crowd had formed around him. Man, he looks like he's having a really bad day. Odd clothes too. As the other trainer stood up, Azrael's mouth opened to greet him, but he got cut off as the kid bowed in front of him and preempted his introduction. Uh, the tournament wasn't this formal in last year's footage...
"It's nice to meet you, Matthew! I'm Azrael." He bowed back, figuring it was probably the appropriate response to being bowed at. "I just came from Mistralton City, but I'm from Shalour City in Kalos originally," he said, smiling brightly, "I'm looking forward to our first battle of the tournament - you must be pretty excited too since you came so far!" He gestured towards his shoulder where Aethon had resettled himself, "Oh, this is Aethon, by the way." Aethon chirped twice in response, and pecked lightly at a stray strand of blue hair.

DaveThe man shakes his head, laughing a little "There's no one better to beat then cocky ones. I'm sure you feel the same way, Pinky" As if on queue, the announcer spoke up "Alright, for this match we have two competitors here from across the globe. On the Blue side, the Undefeated champion of Pastoria City, following in the wake of an idol from the past we have Jeff Wade!" The same snippets of the crowd erupt into cheer "And on the Red Side, coming all the way from LaRousse City in Hoenn, a rising star in the Battle Tower, we have David Dyson!" A moderate amount of the crowd claps for Dave, before everyone sits back down, and waits for the battle to begin "Alright Crash, this is our first chance to show Unova what we got, let's get this started!" Jeff calls out to the Croagunk The little frog runs forward a bit before closing its eyes and focusing, before throwing a punch into the air. Not even a moment later the air around Hal erupts into the Porygon with the force of a strike Trainer is using Focused Training as an Order,
Vacuum wave as a priority, though it has Initiative 6 anyways. You are now 4 meters apart LukeGawain nearly purrs in happiness, before trotting out to the battlefield. The girl just frowns at Luke and gestures her Pokemon forward "Alright" The Announcers voice echoes across the field "On the Blue side, we are joined by Catelynn Munroe, who traveled all the way from Lilycove City in Hoenn in order to battle here. On the Blue side, we have Luke Towers from Accumula Town, right here in Unova. His trip wasn't quite as long, but his attempt at winning won't be any less! A slight cheer comes from the crowd for both Trainers "Rose. I know you can do it!" Catelynn yells out at the Spritzee, which chirps in appreciation She is using Inspired Training and activating Cheer
Spritzee has Init 1
You are 8 apart
JackIan smirked at Jack "I've been ready since before you even got here!" The mic seems to screech for a second, before a female announcer begins to speak "On the Red side, we have Ian Nox, coming from Pallet Town in the Kanto Region. Ian trained with the famous Gym Leader, and former Kanto Champion, Blue Oak" The crowd seems to whisper for a moment, unsure what to do "And on the Blue side, our very own Jack Roberts! Can our self trained, hometown hero, take on a Legacy Trainer?" The crowd erupts in cheer for Jack and Bolt, the Pichu loving the attention "Time to prove ourselves Blaze! Show him what you got!" The Growlithe howls in anticipation of the battle to come Ian is using Focused Training
Blaze has Initative 10
You are 8 meters apart Azrael"It's nice to meet the both of y-" Matthew was quickly interrupted by the Announcer "Alright, For this match, the first in Block D, we're being treated to a battle from across the world! On the Blue side is Matthew Ward. All we seem to know about him is that he comes from Ekruteak City in Johto, and is dressed in Traditional Attire for their Dance Theatre" The crowd continues to look on with worry "On the Red Side, we have Azrael Himlen, all the way from Shalour City in Kalos. It says here he flew all the way to Unova just to take part in the Tournament, now that's dedication!" The crowd cheers a bit before Matthew sends out his Pokemon. As the glow from the Pokeball disappears, a small blue Pokemon with a large Lilypad on it's back and an unamused look on its face sits on the battlefield "Alright Kappa. We're gonna win this!" Matthew calls out, his voice a little shaky Matthew is using 'Inspired' Training
Kappa has an init of 5
You are 8 meters apart

Luke grins as the announcer shouts out their names and the battle begins. "Come on Gawain, show them what you're worth! Close the distance, and Sand Attack!"The Eevee runs forward, closing the distance as much as he could and uses his bushy tail to throw some sand in the Spritzee's eyes to blind it. Luke Binds Plainly Perfect on Gawain for 2 AP. All Normal moves now deal their max damage instead of rolling for the damage. Gawain moves 6 meters to the Spritzee and uses Sand Attack, AC2: 15, the target is Blinded till the end of their next turn when hit.

"Pinky?" Dave scoffs, "If that's the best you can pull off, I can see how you managed to get here. The competition back home was all a bunch of namby-pamby little pansies."At the... attack(?) Dave doesn't look that impressed. "Electric. Target Croagunk," he orders Hal, as the Porygon begins tinting a bright yellowish, floating a bit upwards. "Seriously, man, if you've got the speed, don't waste it. I don't see how you got this far."Dave uses Focused Training on Hal. Dave Tags Croagunk. Hal uses Conversion to turn to Electric Type. Hal uses Trace on Croagunk. Hal Levitates 2m upward.

At the sudden outpouring of cheers, Jack bolted upright in surprise. He has an embarrassed look on his face and was scratching the back of his head awkwardly with his left hand and waving at the crowd with his right. "Wow, I didn't expect all that, haha," he said with a nervous laugh. "Thanks for all of your support everyone!," he shouted to the crowd. "Hometown hero...jeez, way to put on the pressure...," he mumbled nervously to himself, looking down at his feet. He took a deep breath and looked up, focusing on the battle at hand. "Alright Bolt, here we go! Keep your distance and Charge up!," he said. Bolt stood his ground and the Pichu doubled over with a low, "Piiiii~." As he did, lightning sparked from his cheeks, the sparks coming faster the longer he charged. Jack is issuing the Agility Training Order.
Bolt is staying put and using Charge.

DaveJeff frowned as the blast of air missed "Alright, you're better than that come on! Show him what you got Crash." The Croagunk turns towards the newly yellow Porygon, moving closer and firing a glob of muck at the floating program, hoping to strike true Jeff is using Focused again, because I will hit eventually
Crash is now 1 away and 2 below Hal Luke
Catelynn frowned as the dirt covered her Spritzee "That just won't do. Rose, bring forth your bulbs!" As if on command, multiple bulbs of rose coloured lights appear around the Fairy, which float gently in the air Catelynn is using Inspired again for the next turn
Rose activates Fairy lights and is 2 away from Gawain Jack"Sick him Blaze" Ian says coldly, not realizing the threat that the Pichu held The Growlithe took off at full speed towards the little electric mouse, ignoring any danger to himself Ian is using Brutal Training as an Order
Blaze is sprinting to make it almost all the way to Bolt, leaving them 1 apart

Dave winces at the hit. That... looked painful. With what he knew... he had to take a gamble, and hope. "Hal. Flying, now. Pull back a bit. We'll lick this frog yet." The Porygon shifts shades again, turning a pale blue-grey. Dave uses Focused Training on Hal. Dave Tags Croagunk. Hal uses Conversion2 to turn to Flying Type. Hal moves backwards 4m.
