"Hate to burst your bubble, Ovelia, but we all just got here. Meaning we haven't gotten any formal training. Which means we aren't well trained knights. If anything, the bandits have an advantage over us, being as they have worked together several times and probably have strategies. If you go in too cocky, you are more likely to fail", Alex says, getting tired of hearing the same thing over and over.

"Maybe we should have at least some kind of plan in case we do run into someone strong enough to be a threat, it can't hurt right?" Thane says "So what can everyone here do?"

Mael hasn't spoken up for a while, or even acted much other than to give Niyol a small smile and a nod when the former pirate compared them to night and day and then went on to say that they were alike. Mael had to admit, Niyol was pretty spot on with his comparisons.
He continued to stay silent, watching the byplay between Ovelia and Niyol. He almost wished he still had some of that sandwich left. This conversation made for great lunch entertainment.
Eventually though, he got tired of their squabbling. How do they have the energy to argue for this long? Mael wonders. He was quite glad when Thane broke them up, sparing Mael the effort of doing so himself. Nevertheless, now that he'd mustered up the energy to talk, he felt he had to say something at least.
"Agreed, Thane. Since we're so confident about out abilities, why not go a little into what they are? I like surprises as much as any other, but it wouldn't hurt to know what to expect from each other in battle," he said calmly. Mentally Mael laughed a little at his words. He really didn't care too much about what they could do in battle, as long as they stayed away from his targets. That wouldn't end well for them.
He proceeded to say as much. "I practice the shadow magic that the Caligo family is well known for." He briefly shrouds himself in a cloud of dark mist. "I prefer to use large ranged blasts, burst and other attacks that affect areas. I tend to prize power over accuracy, but don't worry, I'm not going to hit you as long as you're not close to my targets." He smiles and then continues, "Tenebram here," he points to the bird on his shoulder, "Is much more accurate, so his targets are free game. If you're wondering why he's summoned, it's because I wanted to be prepared for whatever happens today." That was mostly a lie, but he wasn't going to tell them that he'd wanted to avoid looking like a loon who talked to himself. He hadn't expected to be fighting immediately and so thought nothing of using up his energy. It was quite stupid in hindsight. "I guess I may as well save my energy for the coming fight," Mael said before dispersing his magic and letting Tenebram disappears into his tome.

"Well, I can lay out traps to either contain or injure the enemy and I can also do this", she says, and then proceeds to shoot a web out of her hands onto a wall. "Great for temporarily incapacitating the enemy. Other than that I can hit people, pretty hard if I say so myself. Oh, and I can summon a bug that shoots fire."

"Well, to contrast that i am mostly a melee combatant, i am pretty good with my sword and once i get their attention im pretty decent at keeping it. Other than that i can summon a Honedge named Gram that i can wield ever better than my normal sword." Thane explains.

Niyol simply looked at Thane interrupting their 'fight' and shrugs with a smile. Niyol had worst insults and had started to think of their arguing as a game. Listening to the others describe there powers, Niyol thought of his own abilities. "... In my case I am a little bit of everything so I guess that makes me a support. I can use my magic to give everyone an edge in battle. We can hard and fast before our opponent even has a chance. But I would need everyone to be around me at the start of it..."

"I would help everyone here at least trained with their weapons and magic before enlisting with the intent to become knights." Ovelia commented at Alex's remark. "If people had no interest in combat and training would it not make more sense to live as anything other than a knight?" She asked. "Nobody here is a well-trained battle hardened warrior, correct. I know I've trained with my family who were knights and I worked hard to become one. I'm confident in my combat talents. Especially when you realize that they wouldn't send a bunch of new people unattended if we were fighting anything dangerous. If our leader was there to keep an eye on and bail us out of trouble, maybe. But they are sending us off, all new people, to deal with these bandits. It can't be too big a threat. Or did our leader come off as a 'go get killed fighting experienced warrior bandit geniuses with amazing teamwork skills' type?" She pointed out. "Trust me. It will be fine."
She then looked over at Thane, "As for a plan, fight hard, fight courageously, and come back alive. Everyone here has someone waiting on them. Even if you don't think you have friends and family, regardless of how we feel about each other, we are a team. Meaning at the very least you got teammates wanting you to come back." Ovelia said. "We are knights and we are fighting a bunch of bullies and cowards. We'll come out fine for that reason alone."
She then turned toward the road, "Regardless, we still have a few hour trip ahead of us and any plans people feel they have to make should probably happen on the road or we'll never get there." She said as she started to walk. Ugh...what is wrong with my today? I told myself to not be cranky and be professional and calm and ladylike. And I already got into an argument with people. Bleh...I hope the Blurriest Messenger is more professional and their leader actually keeps an eye on things. I'm acting just as unprofessional. She took a deep breath as she walked, Guess I'll need to apologize later. For now...deep breaths. Calm, poise, ladylike. No arguing. Be professional...

Niyol laughs and speaks in a teasing manner before following after Oveila. "It's probably best that we that we talk while on the road. I am however touched that you wish for my safe return, Oveila. Perhaps you do care for me after all." Niyol placed a sensitive hand over his heart the wind seeming flow around him.
"Continuing on, I think it might be best for us to partner up with someone that complement their fighting style. For example Alex and Mael sounds like a good pairing, Alex will be able to trap the enemy from getting closer and cluster them up for Mael to defeat. Thane and Oveila can work together and I myself can stay as Shelldon's guard if need be."

"And what makes you such a good guard for Sir Shelldon?" Ovelia asks calmly as she walks. "You are an ex-pirate, I didn't realize guarding was a common trait they shared. Plus he seemed uncomfortable around you" Ovelia said. She was trying not to be rude this time and remain polite, however the fact needed to be made. "Honestly, Thane seems like he would make a good guard. He said he can keep a foe's attention so anyone near Shelldon would have their attention focused on him instead." Ovelia responded. "However, we are guarding him, I think it would be best if he picks who he is most comfortable around."
"And I doubt anyone here could keep up to compliment me anyways." She added, "Not meant insultingly. Sorry by the way. I've been annoyed cause of things unrelated to all of you and let me professionalism slip. Arguing like that was petty."

Niyol gave a casual smile. "Oh, so you're just moody. Well I guess that explains things. You do have some points though there, Oveila. Let's have Shelldon pick who he wants as his personal guard. Although I dare say I can keep up with you if needs be, Oveila."

The little kid looked at them, and as he heard everyone argue about who'd be best suited. He moved behind Mael, hiding behind the Magic knight.
The child told everyone mentally, I'll just go with..... the one that feels strongest.....
He then added, can we go..... Sans doesn't like it when teammates argue.

"Yeah we should probably get a move on if we wanna arrive before nightfall." Thane says as he packs the rest of the stuff he took out back into his pack and slings it over his shoulder.

"I'm ready to go, I have my traps pre-made and ready to deploy. Lets go to the camp, and maybe Ovelia can tell us what she does along the way. Let's go." At this point, Alex just wants to get on the road, and see if her sneaking suspicion is going to become a reality. If he is there, she can't wait to give him a good punching, her fists balling up in anticipation.

Ovelia shrugs at Niyol's comment about keeping up as she walks, "You are free to believe that." Ovelia said. "Though you would be wrong. Even without my magic and even if you used yours, I'm confident in my speed." She responds.
At Alex's remark she sighs, "I fight using sword and dagger. I'm also quick. I would have been in the Blurriest Messenger but for some reasons Sans ruined that by arguing and claiming me for the Youngest Sage instead." She adds giving a very short form and not even addressing elements.

Mael was a little surprised when Shelldon decided to hide behind him, and the off-hand compliment almost had him become a little embarrassed. "You're right, Shelldon, we should get a move on," he said as he began walking forward, the memory of the location burned into his mind. The fact that the young boy was depending on him, almost served to make Mael forget his uneasiness about telepathy. As it was, he was still a little uncomfortable about it, but he reminded himself not to judge anyone for their abilities. To be honest, telepathy would be a huge boon in battle for coordination, which Shelldon had said he would be doing.
Mael decided to forget his misgivings and joined the conversation. "I may not be the fastest in terms of running, but my reflexes aren't too bad." This was because they'd been boosted by a magical object that he carried in a pocket. He wondered if Ovelia had a similar object aiding her speed. Speaking of Ovelia, so she had wanted to join the Blurriest Messenger? That was interesting. Mildly so, at least. Mael had been wondering just what Sans' criteria for new recruits was. He'd been sure that no Order would take him when he'd flunked the test. He'd have to ask Sans when they returned from their mission.

"That's good." Ovelia replied simply as she walked. She wasn't sure what else to say. She was almost tempted to just burst ahead to make an example of what she meant. If she traveled a distance that most of them would take a while to get to right away it should make her point. However, that would require taking the effort to run and at the moment at least it was less effort to just let each of them talk about speed. "Fast reflexes really help in combat and can make up for other flaws." She added to not seem like she was being dismissive. After a moment, she decided to try and appear more social. "So how did the rest of you get stu---selected to be in the Youngest Sage?"

"Well, the Youngest Sage wasn't my FIRST choice as you can probably guess, i trained in swordsmanship and smithing because my childhood dream was to join the Mythral Blade, or else the Obsidian Forge. But it seems that fate would have other plans for me." Thane explained as he weaved the tale "I was rejected from BOTH orders, and I only made it into the Youngest Sage on account of my cooking. But I will show those two what they missed out on by becoming a great knight here in the Youngest Sage!" Thane says with a fire in his eyes that seems counter to the laid-back attitude he has shown so far.

"Did you ask Sans about that?" Ovelia asked, "I thought I had failed to get in as well, but turns out he just poached and fought harder. Blurriest Messenger had apparently actually wanted me it sounded like from what he said."

"He told me that maybe they would have taken me in a couple of years, but i couldn't just go back home after that you know? My family would have been crushed, they worked so hard to help prepare me. So i took him up on his offer to join the Youngest Sage instead." Thane explained as they walked.

Mael thought for a moment before shrugging and telling the truth. "To be honest, I didn't really want to become a Magic Knight. I only went to the test to appease my parents, but I flunked it, on purpose. I don't like to toot my own horn, but my magic is pretty powerful and my family is well known for having had a lot of members in the Blackest Sun. I might have gotten in there if I really tried. Either way, I didn't try, and was pretty surprised to get into any Order at all. I wonder what made Sans take me."
