Sherman and his daughter Crissy recall the KO'd Squirtle, sending out a Clefairy to take its place. "Clefairy, please slap some sense into this young lady and her Magby. Don't hold back. She wouldn't want us to."Ashley seethes at the thinly-veiled condescension in his voice as Clefairy begins to use its Doubleslap to knock Magby silly. After the 5th strike, Magby's body flares up, burning Clefairy. "Blaze, hit it back with Thunder Punch! Follow up with Ember to finish it!"In a sudden burst of speed, Blaze strikes the Clefairy with its Thunder Punch, paralyzing it. It then takes advantage of Clefairy's weakened state to blow a small stream of flames at it, forcing Sherman to recall it before it gets too badly injured. "And that's it folks, Clefairy is unable to battle, and Ashley is victorious! What a match!" "Told you I'd only need Blaze to win," Ashley sneers at Sherman as she pushes past him to get her Magby healed up.

"Well folks, looks like we're down to our last two competitors for Round 1 of this Tournament. I know it's getting late, but hang in there. I'm sure these last two battles will be just as thrilling as their predecessors. For those of you who haven't been paying attention, our final match-ups are Cheerleader Ainsley vs Vincent Roth in a Double Battle; and Fashion Designer Barry vs Jojo Joyce! I wonder which of them will be fighting next? Let's find out!" (A result of 1 is JoJo vs Barry. A result of 2 is Ainsley vs Vince.) 9jc46tgN1d2The giant display screen where they have determined each match-up before turns up a result of 1 out of 2. "Looks like we'll be seeing JoJo vs Barry next. A battle of both fashion and Pokemon! Who would have guessed it'd turn out like this?" 1d2

JoJo was conflicted. Watching Ashley slap fire into the little girl with no sense of mercy gave the up and coming diva into her own inferno of rage. She had to be the one to put that harpy in her place. Of course she knew she couldn't, but that hardly changed things. blinking back into the moment, she saw her name come up, and conveniently enough it was against the other fashion designer.
"Fair enough, let's do this"

Vincent looked at the numbers that had been drawn up so far and deduced that there was only one other odd number left other than his own. Who had drawn an odd number of the remaining participants though? The answer was made clear by the announcer. So I'll be battling the Cheerleader then. Vincent wondered what kinds of Pokemon she used. If he were to stereotype, he would assume Normal or Fairy-types, or perhaps simply Pokemon that were cute. If she did have Fairy-types, the match would be rather in her favour.
Not knowing anything about his opponent, Vincent decided to think ahead to the next round, figuring it would help if he got there and if he didn't, well it was still a good thought exercise.
So, so far the winners have been Jax, Miranda, Samantha and Ashley. Jax doesn't seem to be using his Mankey, so that's lucky for me. His Abra seems to be very adept at dodging, but I have trained Vel to deal with Pokemon like that. That Zangoose throws a mean Thunderbolt, but Vel is immune to those. If things go well, Vel should have that match up in the bag.
Miranda has a Kecleon which seemed pretty powerful. The Ghost type attacks it possessed wouldn't do much to Vel, but Sia wouldn't be able to hit it while it was a Ghost-type. It'd be best to have Vel deal with it and if he fails, Sia can pick up from there and hopefully beat it without getting injured, otherwise whatever Miranda sends out next might take Sia out.
Samantha has what seems to be a very strong Whismur. That Echoed Voice can take Pokemon out in one hit. Perhaps with that particular Pokemon it'd be best to send out a Pokemon with good defenses. Sia can hopefully take its hits and beat it. Then Vel can deal with whatever her next Pokemon is.
Ashley has only displayed a Magby which has been enough to take out two Pokemon. That Thunder Punch seems dangerous, but luckily, Vel is immune to Electric-type attacks. Fire-type attacks would still do damage though, so if it has a Fire Punch too, the match up would become dangerous. Beyond that, it would be a matter of using Bite until it went down. If Vel goes down, it's unlikely that Sia would last long enough to beat the second Pokemon.
With that Vincent concluded his planning. He'd have to actually beat his first opponent after all. He had enough presence of mind to wish JoJo "Good luck," as her match began.

Jax passes by JoJo just in time to wish her luck as well, and then continues moving through the crowd. Upon meeting the various winners and losers of the previous matches, he extends his congratulations/condolences and shops his Oddish and Silcoon, willing to trade just about anything for them, really, as he explains that filling out the Pokédex is a big goal of his.

Crissy, Poke Maniac Sherman's six year old daughter, squees the moment she sees the Oddish. She immediately begs her dad to get it. He chuckles, agreeing to do his best. He asks if there is anything specific that Jax would like to trade for the Oddish. He explains that he signed up for this for his daughter's sake, since she isn't old enough to be a trainer yet, but he has several other Pokemon that he's willing to trade.

Jax lets Sherman view the unlocked entries on his 'dex. Anything besides those would be fine, he explains.

After some thought, Sherman offers up a Cacnea that he caught while travelling abroad in Hoenn. That was where he ended up meeting his future wife, so he never got a chance to give it the attention it deserved. If Jax can promise to take good care of it, he's willing to trade.
(Cacnea is level 6, Male, Naive, with Desert Weather.)

If Jax can't give it the best care it deserves himself, he certainly promises to find the perfect Trainer who will, just like little Crissy, who Jax feels will take wonderful care of Oddish. He makes the trade and wishes them the best before getting back to where he can watch JoJo's match go down.

While the battle between Barry and JoJo is just beginning to get started, some random tournament official walks up to the announcer and whispers something to him. The announcer nods before turning his mic back on to address the crowd. "Hey there, folks, sorry to interrupt this riveting battle, but as it's getting pretty late, I have just been given permission to open up a second battlefield for the remaining match of this Round. Don't worry though, you won't have to leave your seats for this. It will all be broadcast simultaneously with the current battle. If entrants Ainsley and Vincent would please follow this young lady over here," he motions to the official that spoke to him a moment ago; "she will be happy to escort you to your battlefield."

As the battle between Cheerleader Ainsly and Vincent draws to a close, the announcer informs everyone who might not have seen it of the result. Ainsly's Plusle and Minun combination was good, but Vince's Sandile and Pinsir proved just too strong. With that, everyone turns their attention back to JoJo vs Barry, where JoJo's Volbeat is hovering well out of reach of the Barry's Glameow.

You may assume that your character did anything you had planned during the course of the next day before heading to the Trainer House for Round 2 of the Tournament.
In this round, anyone can end up facing anyone. However, numbers are re-assigned as 1-6. "Welcome back, folks, to the Monthly Viridian Amateur Tournament! We've seen quite a few amazing Trainers out there so far, and things are only just getting started! Let's find out what our match-ups are!" 1st Match: cqKpvzn41d6 vs 1d6 2nd Match: 1d6 vs 1d6 3rd: 1d6 vs 1d6
(Yeah. That's about what I figured it would do. Disregard those. I'm rolling off-site again where I can control the results better.) "Two and Five! Juggler Jax vs Firestarter Ashley! Young Ashley has proven herself to be quite the Trainer so far, having crushed her opponent in Round 1; but Jax is no slouch either, having defeated Bug Catcher Dan and his team of super-powered Bugs with only an Abra and a Zangoose! Who will emerge victorious from this round, I wonder? We'll just have to wait and see!"2nd Match: Three vs Four: Miranda vs Vince 3rd Match: Barry vs Samantha 1d6·1d6·1d6·1d6·1d6·1d6

(The following NPC Match canonically occurs after the preceding matches are completed.) "Well folks, it's that time again. Time for the final match in this Round of the Tournament! This time, we have Fashion Designer Barry vs Musician Samantha! Both are skilled Trainers, so let's all watch with bated breath as we await the results of this pairing!" Barry starts strong, sending his Furfrou out first. Samantha's Whismur enters the battlefield as before. "Alright, girl, let's get this done quick! Use Sand Attack to start us off, then follow-up with a Tackle! Don't let it use Uproar!""Um... y-you know what to do Whisper... just like we p-practiced."Barry's Furfrou swipes sand into Whismur's face. Whismur begins to cry. "Oh crap, it's using Fake Tears again! Quick, Furfrou, look away!"Furfrou does indeed look away, but it doesn't seem to matter much when Whismur begins to screech at the top of its lungs again. Thankfully, this time the Tournament staff were prepared, having placed sound dampeners around the stands so Whismur doesn't accidentally blow out anyone's eardrums. Furfrou manages to weather the initial assault, and barrels into Whismur, knocking it down and sending it skidding across the floor on its back. Whismur turns up the decibels. This time, it doesn't seem like anything is happening until Furfrou starts whining and covering its ears with its paws. Apparently the Whismur raised the pitch of its voice so high that it sounded like a high-pitched dog whistle to Furfrou. Barry quickly recalls her before too much damage can be done. Samantha manages a weak smile at her Whismur as Barry sends out his Glameow. "Glameow, Bite it! Don't let up!"Glameow sinks its fangs into Whismur's flesh, but its scream of pain ends up being used as an attack as well, sending the poor Glameow spiraling into unconsciousness in just a few seconds. "And with that, the battle is over! Once again, Samantha and her Whismur prove to be quite the capable team! Don't worry though folks, a few hours at the Pokemon Center and Furfrou and Glameow will be good as new again. Next up we will be taking a short break before entering into the final round of the competition! Stay tuned, folks!"

"Whoa! What an intense series of battles! Especially the one with young Ashley! Quite an amazing Cyndaquil she has there. It's no wonder she kept it in reserve. With those battles being over, we are left with only 3 contestants: Musician Samantha, Trainer Vincent, and Firestarter Ashley! Since I'm certain nobody wants this tournament to drag on any longer than it has to (it's already been two days, after all!), we'll make this simple: Each remaining trainer will be assigned a final number, between 1 and 3. Then, our trusty computer will determine who will battle whom to claim that coveted position in the top 2!" Samantha is assigned a 1, Vincent a 2, and Samantha gets a 3. The computer blips, and the semi-final match will be between Ashley and Samantha, with Vincent taking on the winner of that match to determine 1st place. ~~~~ A heated battle takes place, with Samantha's Whismur quickly falling to Ashley's fiery onslaught. She sighs and pulls out her second Poke Ball. The one which contains the only unknown contender in the tournament so far. She tosses it up fearfully, almost flinching as a tiny, purple-ish Pokemon with large speaker-ears materializes. It's a Noibat! Samantha was hiding a Dragon-Type! It doesn't even wait for instructions before swooping and diving at Magby, claws extended. The Magby tries to retaliate with electric punches, but Noibat proves far too quick for the slower Pokemon to hit. The Magby goes down, and a frustrated Ashley quickly sends out her Cyndaquil, Smoke. Despite it having fainted both of Jax's Pokemon after a short struggle, this Noibat is simply in another league. It tears into the tiny Fire Mouse, bowling it over onto its back and tearing at the soft insides. Samantha shouts for it to stop, but it merely shrieks at her and goes back to what it was doing, only to find its prey gone, recalled by a horrified Ashley before it could get hurt further. The small Flying/Dragon Type seems angry at this, and takes its frustrations out on the one who distracted it and thereby allowed its prey to escape. It attacks Samantha! She shrieks in terror and covers her head and neck with her arms while crouching down, fumbling for Noibat's Poke Ball. It's then that the Arena Alakazam steps in and calms Noibat with blasts of Hypnosis. Seeing her disobedient dragon fall to the ground, asleep, Samantha quickly recalls it, profusely apologizing to Ashley. Ashley snaps her fingers, sending a burst of fire from her own hand towards Samantha. The Alakazam easily blocks it with a Light Screen, and its eyes glow a bright blue as it Disables Ashley, preventing her from moving. Both girls are teleported to the Poke Center so their Pokemon (and a battered Samantha) can be treated for their injuries. (I will post more later on, after everyone has had a chance for their PC to react to the events. And you thought this game wasn't going to get dark until later. Showed you, huh? )

Vincent watched the match between Samantha and Ashley with a focused expression. There was some excitement visible on his face too. He couldn't wait to see whom he'd be battling next for the first place in the tournament. His money, or well, at least his hopes were on Samantha to win. Ashley with her Fire-types would be at an advantage against Hortensia, and Vincent liked to avoid disadvantages where he could.
The match started out heated but then became a train-wreck of a battle. He'd wanted Samantha to win, but not like this. That hadn't been a battle, that was a massacre. Vincent trained his Pokemon to go beyond their limits in battle, but he would never allow them to mutilate an opponent like that. Well, he supposed it hadn't been under Samantha's command. She hadn't commanded the Noibat at all after all.
Vincent swallowed hard. So this was what Pokemon battling could be like. He would have to prepare for an opponent that had little control over her own brutal Pokemon. Well, if it came down to it, Vincent's Pokemon were brutal too. They could take the Noibat's punishment and repay it in full.
I'll have to save Vel to use against the Noibat. That means Hortensia will face the Whismur. She can probably take those Echoed Voice attacks. The Noibat will be a problem with its ability to fly however. Vel simply can't compete with a flier attacking at range. It's own aggressiveness though seems to make it more of melee attacker, so we can hopefully take advantage of that. We can win this thing.

Jax stands on his tiptoes and watches the match as best he can from way back at the nurse's station, getting to take his turn now since Ashley had priority healing due to her immediate match. While Abra and Zangoose are being healed, he stares in amazed horror as his previous opponent is positively destroyed by the young Musician's wild and unruly Dragon-type.
At one point, he even lifts his mask up for a moment to get a completely unobstructed view of things. No one notices, though, as they, too, are all transfixed by the events playing out in the arena.
After Abra and Zangoose are returned to him, he goes to find a slightly less occupied place with slightly less noise so that he can release Abra and Zangoose in order to speak with them, wanting to make sure that they know he still feels that they did an amazing job and that he's very sorry for allowing them to faint.

After getting her pokemon ready for the day, and an admittedly awkward post-coital return of the furfrou to her trainer, JoJo watched the match between him and Samantha with a new egg in a marsupial-esque pouch she'd stitched into her prismatic blouse. After the match she approached Barry to console him, but only dropped in for a moment so she could go watch Jax's unfortunate defeat.
The dancer sat with the masked man at the clinic, looking away as he lifts his mask to be polite. She returns with him to the arena once is pokemon are done healing up. She turns away from him while giving his team the peptalk. Moonwalker hadn't even cared when he fell, but Billie Jean was still sulking in her trainer's arms. Losing sucked. Thinking about the events of the morning JoJo held Billie Jean tighter, but the star-shaped puff ushed against the encroaching arms. Looking down, JoJo saw the same fiery eyes she'd seen the day before, and was terrified. Sure, Billie Jean wasn't giving up, but how reckless was she going to be? She'd only known the Cleffa for ten days, but BJ was her baby. Still, the diva-to-be pretended it didn't bother her.
"You're right, Billie, we just have to keep trying harder"

As Ashley and Samantha are teleported away, the crowd begins murmuring. They all wonder what this means for the tournament finals. Will Ashley proceed despite the loss, or are her Pokemon too injured to continue regardless? Would Samantha be disqualified for being unable to control her Pokemon? These questions and more fly about the room, the crowd whipping itself into a veritable frenzy as they impatiently await news. After nearly two hours, the Announcer returns. The crowd goes silent as they await the results. "Due to the unfortunate circumstances of that last battle, the Tournament's final round may not be taking place for some time. Young Samantha has withdrawn from the tournament, her reasons being, and I quote: 'I don't deserve to go further. I can't even control Noibat, and it was a mistake to come here. I'm sorry.' That being said, Ashley's Cyndaquil is in no condition to battle further, leaving her short one Pokemon even should she wish to continue. Thus, it falls to our remaining competitor to decide what to do. Ashley is willing to surrender the 1st place title to young Mr. Roth if he doesn't wish to wait.
That being said, he may choose to wait. It seems that she has other Pokemon available to battle with, but they must be brought here from her home in Cinnabar..." The Announcer finishes apologizing to all those who wanted to see the final match of the tournament, and then approaches Vincent to get his answer. "So what'll it be, son? Nurse Joy says that while Ashley's Cyndaquil will make it, it will be some weeks before it can make a full recovery after what was done to it, and, naturally, Ashley wishes to stay by its side while it recovers. So your choices are these: 1) Take First Place. Ashley is willing to officially surrender the battle to you (which, if I may say, is something you shouldn't take lightly, given how prideful she is). 2)Wait 6-8 weeks while her Cyndaquil heals and recovers enough to be able to battle. 3) You could always surrender the battle to her if you wished.
Take some time to think about it if you like, but I need an answer by midnight, which is two hours from now. Okay?"

Vincent thinks for a few minutes. Unfortunately, while I'd love to wait for her, 6 to 8 weeks is unacceptable. Who knows where I'll be by then, I could be in Celadon or Fuchsia or the Victory Road for all I know. That means I have to decide between taking or conceding First Place. Honestly, I think surrendering to her after she made the offer to surrender would be something of an insult to her pride. Perhaps it's better to just take First Place and have this thing be over with. That might make things better for Samantha too, knowing that the Tournament has come to an end, rather than being drawn out by the actions of her Pokemon.
Vincent sighed. "I'll accept Ashley's surrender. I don't have time to wait six weeks unfortunately and I feel like drawing out the competition won't do anyone any good. Better Ashley can focus on getting her Pokemon healed than having a fight in the place it got injured hanging over her head." He shrugged, ignoring that he didn't mention Samantha. He didn't want to be seen as quite that soft. "Maybe I'm reading too much into things and this decision leaves a bad taste in my mouth, because I wanted to win or get second place properly, but that's what I've decided." There was also the fact that the chance of getting the Grand Prize sweetened the bad taste he got. Vincent would be lying if he said he didn't want to get that Pokemon, so he didn't mention it at all.

With Vincent having made his decision, and Samantha having withdrawn from the running due to the fiasco with Noibat, the Top 3 placing Trainers are as follows:
1st Place - Trainer Vincent 2nd Place - Firestarter Ashley 3rd Place - Jax the Juggler (due to Samantha's withdrawal)
The two PCs who won gain the prizes listed in the Rules thread (listed here as well), plus bonus Misc XP. Vincent, for getting first place will receive the following: P2000 and a Zorua!
Firestarter Ashley gains the P1500 and Great Ball for 2nd Place.
Jax will recieve P1000.
