"Oh. Um...Yes we did, but we are calling for a different reason. We are hear at Fuji's adoption center in Lavender, and there is this Eevee here. She isn't doing to well, and she seems very depressed of the loss of her owner. We found out he was a ranger, and we wanted to know if you knew him, or could tell us anything about him. He was an elderly man, and had disappeared into the Lavender Swamp a few years back. Know anything?"

There is silence on the other end for a minute.
"I did not know him personally, nor even professionally; but I know of whom you speak. His name was Trent, and he was one of the oldest Rangers still in service. Over 30 years of it in fact. I wasn't aware he had vanished, as he usually kept to himself. We didn't push him to check in like we do newer Rangers, as if something was important, he'd tell you about it. Strange that he would simply disappear into the swamp like that though... with that many years of experience in the area, you'd think nothing would be able to surprise him at this point. We'll launch an investigation and I'll send over what information we have on him. If nothing else, we need to confirm his death."
There is a ping from your DexPhone as Ranger Kim sends over some files on Ranger Trent.

"Ok. Thank you very much." Kaeda hangs up, and turns to Floyd. "Geez. They didn't even know he had disappeared. Anyways, his name was Trent. She didn't seem to know much, but she sent over the files they had on him. Come check it out." She stands next to Floyd, and opens the files.

The files contain about what you'd expect from an intelligence dossier, except it's about 10 years out of date (which may not be an issue, as older people are generally set in their ways). Physical description, height/weight, etc. The description might be useful if you ever run into him (assuming he's even alive), but other than that and the psych assessment there isn't much to read. Some stuff on places he's been as a Ranger... comments from other Rangers about him... that sort of thing.

Floyd tries to tempt Alisa with a few treats as Kaeda uses the phone.
As she shows him the files he sends the rangers a brief description of the groups encounter with the unknown ghost types, along with the preliminary pokedex data and several images of the one he captured and one of the larger specimen they ko'd.
"What do you think I should do?" He asks Kaeda. "Selfish desire to own an Eevee aside, I can't leave a pokemon her to starve itself."

Kaeda rubs the back of her neck. "I don't know, and I don't wanna leave it here either...The best plan I can think of is that you gotta talk to it. You gotta reach her somehow. Find a way to connect....Plan B is see if this place will let you adopt her, and maybe getting her out of this town will help...I don't know."

The employee chuckles a bit, stating that Sandy is an odd one. They've tried to get her adopted before, but her nature makes that difficult. They mention that bribery is probably the best way to do it, but that encourages bad behavior. Of course, if Vincent doesn't mind that, it's up to him. They also suggest that Vince seems to have acquired another companion at some point, motioning at the corner of the hall where, lo and behold, Dunsparce is sitting, watching him.

Oh Arceus, Vincent thinks. Why is it following me?! "Uh... I guess... I can take it with me? I might not have the money to adopt both Sandy and the Dunsparce." I hope the Dunsparce realizes I'm never going to use it... I suppose I don't mind it living on the ranch if that's what it takes to stop it from following me around like this.

Since Vincent has two badges, and is obviously a traveling trainer, they'll offer you a bundle discount for adopting both. Dunsparce are surprisingly common in certain areas, so it's only 1250 by itself. Scraggy is a bit more rare, and is 1400 by itself. Discount price is 1988 PYen.

Dun Creep Dunsparce follows along behind as soon as you round the corner. It takes awhile, but you eventually find Sandy as she pops out of hiding to startle another Pokemon with the food trap.

Kaeda gives what encouragement she can, and pats Floyd on the arm, and heads out. She runs her fingers through her hair, and looks out for a battle to take her mind off things.

"Hello again," Vincent says, speaking a little more softly so as not to startle the Pokemon. He reaches into his pack and pulls out a small snack. "If you're done tricking the other Pokemon, how about you get some actual food in you? Look, I've heard of your shenanigans and I think I like you. I stand by what I said earlier, I want to show you how fun battles can be. What do you say? Will you come with me?"

Scraggy narrows its eyes as it inspects your hand, then the food, then everywhere nearby. When you look away for a moment, it quickly snatches up the food and stashes it in its "pants". It then allows itself to be captured.
Sandy the Scraggy is level 11, Female, Skittish, with Moxie.
Dun Creep the Dunsparce is level 12, Female, Careful, with Serene Grace.

Floyd thanks Kaeda for sharing the information and goes back to Alisa, kneeling down so his eyes were on the same level as hers and opening the cage door.
"I can't say I have good news for you. The rangers didn't know Trent had vanished, so they'll probably be finding out what happened to him soon. Which is probably a good thing, but given all the time that's passed it'll really just be confirmation of what you already know."
Floyd pauses and sighs.
"But reading about him does tell me quite a bit. He definitely wouldn't want you to be starving yourself, no matter how much you miss him. And he'd want you to be happy. Which is what I want too. And since I'm looking to adopt you and take over for Trent you probably deserve to know a bit about me."
Floyd proceeds to tell the Eevee about his childhood and journey, focusing on his relationship with his sister and why he wanted to find her, along with his experiences with Vince, Lia, Maxine and Kaeda.
"So yeah. That's my plan. Keep travelling and getting stronger, find my sister and prove to her that people can change. And help my friends succeed. Make sure Vince doesn't go full Crobatman and keep Lia and Kaeda from hurting each other. Or anyone else for that matter."
He says, frowning as he adds the last comment.
"So that's my story. Now I'm not expecting you to suddenly start smiling again and come join me on a wonderful adventure through the land of sunshine and daisies. But I'm also not going to let you keep starving yourself. So if you don't start eating and actually living your life, I'm going to be sticking around and making you. Because you owe it to trent to live a long and happy life like he did. Then when the two of you meet again in the Great Beyond you can tell him about all the fun things that happened, rather than explaining why you let yourself starve in a cage."
He finishes, shifting his weight back as he waits for the Eevee's reaction.

The Eevee listens very intently to what Floyd has to say. It seems at first like his words didn't reach it, but then it slowly starts to get up and pads over to its food dish to eat. The employee who had been helping you with Eevee seems pleasantly surprised.
"I haven't seen her eat like that in months. I guess you really got through to her. Thank you, Floyd, for helping this poor thing find the will to keep on going. I was afraid we may have to... resort to drastic measures to either keep her alive or end her pain. I'm very glad it didn't come to that. Now.. normally I'm not supposed to do this, but since you have effectively saved her life, I'll let you adopt her for half price. Only 625 PYen after you fill out all the appropriate paperwork."
Eevee is female, level 10, Hardy, with Run Away.
Kaeda/Lia
With Lia fresh off a victory against Veteran Akira, and Kaeda on her way out of the Fuji adoption center with her new Tyrogue, they nearly crash into one another as Lia rounds the corner. Just as she's about to tell off Kaeda or something, she spots something out of the ordinary in this place: a leather-clad red-head walking through the street towards the Pokemon Tower.
