Woops. You're right. I said the wrong one. I meant "adorable", which does give evasion.

With "tough trainer" money. It's not like you can't outpace the healing it provides. It grants 4 temp HP on the Glameow. Additionally, as noted in the battle thread, Temp HP does not stack with itself unless specified to do so; which Shell Bell does not. Therefore, Glameow gained a buffer of 4 HP, which is easily knocked away by even moderately damaging attacks.

Hey, no problems. You're still well within the acceptable timetable for posting, especially considering the holiday.

You have a fair chance at winning the match. Glameow is only level 7, with evenly spread stats. The Shell Bell helps, but you just dealt it two injuries with that crit (massive damage + 50% HP marker). This is the second time it's dropped below 1/2 hp. If I wanted to be mean, or make it an impossible match, I'd make you fight a Ghost type. None of Volbeat's moves would work on it.

It doesn't really matter how many injuries my opponent has, I'm down pokemon to their one and a half. Unless his other pokemon is either ground, dark, or fairy, I've got no chance. And that's assuming Billie Jean can even take down the Glameow (remember that Cleffa is a baby and my other options are a sentret (garbage), a rattata (one of my favorites, but still garbage), and a level 1 pumpkaboo (no health and weak to one of the opponent's moves).
So yeah, the match is basically already over

You could get lucky, after all.

I'll keep trying, but just so you know, this really is an impossible fight: Billie Jean has less than half the BST that Furfrou does, and then there's still the Glameow on top of it

I just chose "thematically appropriate" Pokemon that had neutral typing. Unfortunately, as you pointed out, Billie Jean stands only a very slim chance against Furfrou. Especially since it's best move is going to be Hidden Power. (Furfrou's only Basic Ability causes it to automatically resist physical moves 1 step.) I'll try to make things a little less one-sided in the future.

Then why not burmy? THat would've made perfect sense ( Burmy/Wormadam's signature ability is straight up called fashion designer, plus he could've gotten it in the bug catching contest). Wile you're balancing a trainer battle, also consider the resources available to the players

Honestly, for generating random (non-Gym) trainers, this is my first attempt. I'm going to make mistakes. I do apologize if this fight seems super one-sided, or.. other things. I will endeavor to keep things much more balanced with regards to player vs NPC resources in the future.

Eh, it wouldn't be a problem for Rev or Jax. I'm just having a tough time because a) my character isn't optimized for pokemon battling (if I could've just hit TL3 before the competition I could've done some pretty rad stuff) and b) my team is kinda weak (one baby pokemon, two trash commons, a volbeat, and a level 1 pumpkaboo)

I'll try to ease up a bit on your trainer fights in the future. Just keep holding out.

Is it okay if I retcon my character a little bit? The whole Artificer/Fashionista thing made sense mechanically as a neat way to do battling, but now that JoJo is starting to look like the kinda character that isn't too fond of the league right now (she'll probably participate in league matches when she feels like her pokemon are ready), and was always more about performing, I kinda want to respecc her into being more of a coordinator type thing. WOuld that be okay?
(For the record, that would mean A) Replacing Occult Ed with Grace B) Removing or refunding entirely the dowsing rod C) basically redoing of my TL2 edge picks )
If that's too much to retcon I understand, but I thought I'd ask

You can absolutely respec. In fact, this is the perfect time to do it. We're in between the two rounds of this side-tournament, so there is more than enough time. I would like to point out though, that Contests don't exist in this version of Kanto. I say this because that is what the Coordinator class is focused on. Sure, it gives some bonuses to battling, but not many. While I don't want to force you into anything that you don't want to do, I will remind you that this game's primary focus is exploration and battling.
Building on that note, I recently thought to myself: "What fun is it if players are restricted to the Routes in the video games? Why not let them trek off the beaten path if they wish?" And so, I shall. If it wasn't clear before, while there is a "recommended" order of Gym Challenges, only Gyms 7 (Cinnabar) and 8 (Viridian) will not have adjustable teams. This is mainly for RP purposes, but you're free to go ahead and try to challenge them anyway. They may even let you.

Well then I guess I could build on a concept of pokemon caretaking? After all, I already know how to groom things, and Jojo seems to know how to pokemon pretty well
