"There are a few small islands that litter the waters off our coast. Some may be inhabited. Swamped as we are getting on the coast it could only be worse for them. The Lighthouse is always in working order. It's too dangerous for boats to approach our shores otherwise. I suppose, with the sea level rising that doesn't matter as much. The rocks, and the reefs that cause boating accidents are less exposed then normal." Violet wondered to herself. "You think maybe they'll establish a grooming team, to look after the Pokemon when they get back from working?"

"From the sounds of it, I feel Madame expects everyone to do that for themselves," he replies. "She mentioned setting aside some buildings for that purpose, but nothing beyond that."

"That's okay, I get nervous around important people." Violet blushed and laughed nervously before excusing herself from Thel's presence. Jasmine is entertaining questions as they come, but Thel manage to find an opening to approach her, and she addresses the boy ahead of other questions.
"Well, that went significantly better then expected... I'm suddenly flush with assistance and much more confident in Olivine's ability to weather the storm." She seemed almost giddy, which was a step beyond her usual positive moods. "Having someone to talk to about all of this really helped me get my thoughts in order. Resonating. I'm going to be tied up here for awhile, can you go speak to Joy about Patience? If nothing else, she should be able to energize Ampierre so he lasts a bit longer."

Okay, go to the Center. That shouldn't take that long. He's got the whole rest of second period. "I'm glad that this has set your mood aflutter," Thel says, giving her a smile. "But, yes, I'll go and do that. Does she know anyone'll be coming?"
He's happy that he can try and do something for Patience, too. Friday hosting aside, this has been turning into a pretty good day.
...well, as good as can be expected under the potentially world-ending events.

Being a gym leader must be particularly troublesome. Responsibility and fame. Bundled up, Thel heads across to the Pokemon Center.
"Welcome to the Pokemon Center... oh, Hello again Miss Lucasta. Jasmine told me you'd be coming to look into treatment for one of your... very special friends? She was very brief. Tell me everything you can recall about her, and I'll pack as you go."

Once again, Thel thanks the umbrella and poncho for making the rain so much more bearable. More great innovations from humans. Really, what don't they have? ...well, fire breath.
"Ah, yes, thank you, Nurse Joy," he says, gratefully. "It's a... bit of an unusual situation," he ventures. "She's... had machines put in her, by someone. And... they've been draining her. Moving around in terribly uncomfortable ways. Just... being a burden. They'll apparently kill her if removed, but... it seems like magnets help disrupt them. Jasmine's floating magnets are there with her, lifting and interfering with the machines." He feels a little awkward. Just... telling people about this stuff isn't really something that he tends to do. "I... hope that's helpful."

"It sounds like they are improperly secured. I don't know very much about machinery, much less anything that would be implanted into someone, but if a magnetic Pokemon is easing it, and movement is causing the discomfort, that at least gives me something to work with." Joy goes about adding gloves, several needles, creams, and bottles of pills to her bag, along with some sort of fabric cuff with a tube on it, and a big rubber Y with a flat thing on one end and two knobs on the other.
"Any trouble walking or standing that you are aware of? Dizziness, headaches, emotional distress fainting spells? Muscle spasms, joint pain?"

"This morning she was having a lot of trouble standing and just... everything, until Ampierre came along to help," Thel says. "Don't know about most of the others problems, but... she's definitely a lot happier and more easily able to show emotions without them fully active."

"If you enjoy alleviating suffering, there is no better calling then mine." Joy smiled as she clipped her bag closed and got dressed against the weather. The walk to Jasmine's gym was swift, backed by a tailwind as they were, and in nearly no time Thel again found himself in the cave system. Joy considered the sleeping conditions with some skepticism, but didn't make comment. Patience was sound asleep, the Magneton still floating in a position straddling the girl's back. Joy began by attaching some sort of meter to the magnets on the Pokemon, then kneeled amidst the blankets and slowly peeled them away to see what she was working with.
This did elicit a sharp inhale, and she had to take a moment, covering her face with a hand.

I know how much magnetism we need to generate to relieve her pain... so that is a start. I'll give you two a moment, if you'll wake her. Probably best it wasn't a stranger." Joy leaves her bag on the cave floor, and gives the boy some space.

"Mmmhh?" Patience's eyes slide slowly open, and she props her chin on her hands to look at Thel with more clarity in her eyes then she might have ever had before. "As long as you are here, I'm sure it'll be okay. Serenity has been good company." At the mention of her name, the Ninetails lets out a little grumble and a nasal snort, though she smiles. "If... she's going to be messing with my back, could you hold my hand? I get really nervous when people start touching it..."

The boy gives a pet to the Ninetales and runs his hand along her long neck in thanks, before grabbing Patience's hand. "Of course. I'm here for you. If something hurts, or is uncomfortable, or anything, don't hesitate to say. It'll help Joy figure things out."
"I'm hoping that this can help you... even a little." He gives the girl's hand a light squeeze.

I won't be doing anything invasive today, we're just having a look along the surface to see how we can reduce your discomfort." "Jasmine's Pokemon is doing a good job of that already." She replied nervously. "I know it is, but it can't keep that up indefinitely, we need to find a more permanent solution."
Patience chewed her lip, periodically squeezing at Thel's hand while Joy took a baseline of her vitals. Wrapping the fabric sleeve around Patience's arm and puffing it up before reading a dial, and closely examining the unit without direct contact. "Some of the discomfort is an inflammatory response... some of it is definitely nervous." Joy mumbles to herself softly.

"No it's good to ask questions." Joy chewed her lip. "Patience, I'm going to start by feeling along the back of your head, and trail down your spine. Let me know where the discomfort starts. Thel, an inflammatory response is what happens when your body is injured. The area usually becomes red and sore, puffy to the look and touch. There are medicines to reduce inflammation, and to treat infection if that is what it is... " Joy gently pressed several fingers into the back of Patience's neck, and slowly descended. There was a visible spasm and a pained gasp from the girl.
"Between C4 and C5..." The nurse comments again. "I'm sorry it hurts sweetheart, but we're learning important things about where everything has gone wrong." Patience's eyes water and she starts to curl up. "Please, you mustn't bend or twist right now..."

Thel feels so helpless. There's nothing he can do to keep the pain away, or to help her relax, or... anything. He can just be here...
Well, actually, he does have one idea. Twisting over to his bag, he retrieves a hairbrush from it, and gently starts running it through her hair. "It'll be okay, Patience. I'm here with you..." he says, gently. "I won't let anything happen to you."
