"I know you are skilled," Zach says. "I just don't know if you are skilled enough for what might await you. It is a whole different field."
"Morning, cutie," Ayah says, sliding in next to Amaranth with a large pile of pancakes. "Did you... see what I left outside your room?"

"Well, how did you capture Ronin? It seems to be your only Pokemon, and while dangerous and odd, not far beyond what a normal 'Mon would be.". He probed curiously, still picking at chunks of lightly salted melon.
His face lit up scarlet atAyah's question. "I-It was really nice... Never had anyone do nothing like that for me before. You didn't have to go through the trouble, but I really appreciate it."

"He is not my only Pokémon," he says, shaking his head. "You fought Kitaria, my Zoroark, far, far back in Rustboro. That was quite fun, I might add. I was fortunate in that the fire technique she knows was particularly potent against my little paper friend. And that he had been tangled in some ferocious beast's web beforehand..."
"So, it was simply a sheer coincidence of factors. A showing of adequate strength, which he seemed to appreciate, as well as freeing him from that web. I... did not want to stick around and see what kind of creature could make something that could hold Ronin, though. You... you have seen his cutting power. And yet he was stuck." Zach shudders a bit. "Anyways, it certainly wasn't a contest of raw strength. They see that everywhere. I fell like... compassion is what is lacked there. Terrible worlds. Where, remember, things like Ronin and even Cassiopeia are essentially nothing."
"It... it really wasn't much trouble," Ayah admits, her voice low. "Not for me. My sister is the one who did the work. I... I went up to her last evening, a bit after you left, and we talked some. Still don't know what I'm going to do about most things, but... I asked, and she was willing to try and make those for you."

"That... is impressive all said. Sharpest thing I've ever seen, fer sure..." Theodore tried to consider the implications of a thread so strong it couldn't be cut by the sharpest things. That was pretty strong webbing, man the kinds of bugs they must have in a place like that would ruin all the berry plants forever, forget just one or two. Still, it wasn't that big a concern. They were over there, and everything else was where it was supposed to be.
With Ayah's admission that her sister had gone out of her way to find the flowers that Amaranth had been interested in, for the sweet gesture, he cleared his throat softly. "Thank you for the flowers Mayah, it really meant a lot. Sorry for making you worry about your sister and... uhm... calling you by the wrong name."

The islander had eaten silently as he let the others talk, feeling a little out of place, but that wasn't a new issue for him. He covered his mouth when he saw the two flirting together, stifling any giggle he almost made. He perked up a bit when he heard Theo ask about the Pokemon, his eyes getting a shine about them. "Wonder if they have things like the Pokemon from legends in those other universes, wouldn't it be cool to run into something like Lunala or the Tapu's?"
The islander ignored that legends were called legends for a reason and he should probably not wish to run into one in a hostile environment like Zach was talking about.

"Your apology is accepted," Maya says, nodding. "It was not nothing, but... I enjoyed crafting them."
"My guy," Zach says, grinning at Kai, "I admire your enthusiasm, but I do not want to see what something of that magnitude would be. Especially not ones as liable to have mood swings as the Guardians of Alola. I saw the remains of that building."
"Let me just put this in perspective. You know Wailord, right? How it filters out tiny organisms in the water for food? Tens of thousands of them? More? Well... those are the kind of creatures that Ayah's jellyfish is. Hers was left over from an eaten swarm... and we couldn't even comprehend the sheer scale of that thing. I think my brain shut off." He laughs. "I'd be more than happy never seeing anything like that ever again. Would probably be cool to see, but... probably would be the last thing you saw. I like your gusto, though!"
"This is beginning to feel less and less like a good idea..." Evelyn mutters.
"I'll mention that I'm planning to take us to the forest, so prep for that. Not everything's gonna be grass, though, and... be cautious about there being too much fire and heat. The trees don't really react well to it. Let me know when you're good."

Amaranth was painfully curious about the idea of crafting a flower, one normally grew flowers, but what was normal anymore? He listened in rapt attention to the description of something so impossibly vast that it went beyond comprehension. "Under the feet of giants..." He comments in awe. "Come on Evelyn, don't get cold feet now, this sounds like the sort of fight you've been itching for. I'm onboard for it now, let's have a quick peek, in and out, twenty minute adventure."

"Half my team is fire! Ugh, I guess I can get out... Kalani and Coronet. Or is Ice also a bad idea because it's a forest?" Kai pulls out Puraha's and Wela's pokeballs, figuring he'd exchange them... he pauses as he thinks about something.
"Would it... be a bad idea to Mega-Evolve in there?"

"Look, I signed up for this to get some payback and see one friend again while supporting others," Evelyn says, wryly. "I'm not about to leave you guys hanging, don't worry. I just haven't done so hot the last few times I've fought, I'd rather not meet an ignominious end to being stomped underfoot or swallowed whole or anything."
"Ice should be fine. Unless it's hot ice, or something," Zach laughs. "And... I mean, you can bring fire, just... it's a bad idea to rely on it. No idea about Mega Evolution. I've basically been out in the field since I got my stone. Our little tussle in Rustboro was the first real time we had to really stretch our muscles in that way." He sounds a little awkward. "Anyways, uh, I'm gonna get the balls you'll need, then wait at the beach. Or meet you there. Whatever order. Take your time getting ready and swapping out your teams. Just don't head in without me okay?"
Evelyn lets out a deep exhalation as everyone's getting their teams swapped out after the advice. "I don't know how you guys are handling this all so calmly and enthusiastically. We could die in there. ...I know that was theoretically possible at other times, but this, it's another world. We're leaving the safe, familiar place behind, where we can expect things to be a certain way. Expect certain things - like wandering around on a Gym Circuit - to be safe." She definitely looks a lot more pale and panicked than any other time you recall seeing her. "Like... I'm not going to leave you guys out on your own, but... how're you all feeling confident? I need some of that, because apparently mine's ran out..."

"When in the last few weeks and months has our world been normal, Evelyn?". Amaranth asked placidly, gently squeezing the girl's shoulder. "You've seen a lot of it, and I'm not going to get into that laundry list again because bridges need to be mended before they can be crossed." A little sigh.
"Given the lengths he went through for Ayah and Mayah, Zach won't leave us to the danger we are approaching. If this is what he needs to let us put a stop to Orion and this Julia, then this is what I am willing to do. I'm scared too, but... If we are so small as to escape notice, it gives me some comfort."

"I just find it exhilarating myself. I mean, putting your life on the line is intimidating, but it's nothing we haven't done before either. And yeah, Ev, it's scary. Everything is if you really think about it, but being able to still have fun despite that is really... well it's refreshing." Kai gives a little smile as he talks, trying to be reassuring about it.
"And even on this journey we've run into things no one expect, like haunted ruins... more than once." He slides Amaranth an apologetic look, since they said never to talk about those incidents again.

Ruby raises an eyebrow at the 'haunted ruins' comment, but doesn't actually pursue it. "See, Ev? You've got good people here."
"I know that!" she says, laughing. "Ah, thanks guys. That made me feel better. I'm gonna stick close to all the ice, I think. Just in case."
"Just... be careful, please," Maya says. "Do not be reckless." She looks at Ayah. "I don't want to lose you after just getting to see you again."
"Don't worry, sis. I've got plenty of strong friends to back me up. And Evelyn." "Hey!" Ayah gives the other girl a wink. "Kiiiiidding~" She goes and drags the green-haired girl towards the stairs. "Let's go."
With everything sorted, the group convenes at the beach, the mirror ocean still completely still. Or maybe it's a lake. Who knows. Zach has a handful of the odd-looking balls, that he tosses one out to each of the younger trainers. "This stuff's apparently Aether tech. Or at least something that they were working on. I dunno, Julia's the tech guru here, I'm just the person who gets told what stuff to do. Aaaaaaaaanyways, the stuff in there's hardier, but this ball'll work like any other. Other ones don't work, dunno why. Different frequency of energy or something? Any questions?
"Is there an easy way to find the return portal, or... are we just going to have to rely on memory?" Evelyn asks, nervously.
"Just memory. So please don't stray off the obvious paths. It's dangerous, and I'd hate to see you not come back. Anything else from anyone?"

Amaranth pales at the mention of haunted ruins. Twice, twice they had gone places that they probably shouldn't have. Both times it had almost ended really poorly. This was number three, and that knowledge gave her more pause then anything Zach had brought up. His resignation to the task outweighed her fear of it, and so they continued. "Could mark trees as you go Ev, but yeah no running off ahead to be number one." He giggled softly.
"You've been pretty clear about what not to do... I imagine the rest will just be business as usual, so... let's get this Alolan Trial over with." The Pokeball was very strange... with a vector patterning and fins that made it just awkward to hold. It looked neat though. These Aether folks must not have been very practical.

Kai let out a chuckle, taking his own of the strange Pokeballs as he did. "You better hope we don't run into a Totem, that would be hilariously bad."
After putting it away into his jacket pocket, he straightened his bag up, fixed his hat and flashed the rest a smile. "We got this, plus, think about how neat it would be to be a Champion with an alien Pokemon!"

"I dunno if that's a good cat to let out of the bag..." Ruby says, wryly.
The group makes their final preparations, before stepping into the gate. There's a white light, and then suddenly the air changes, becoming much more temperate, with a breeze wafting gently through the air.
Looking around, the gate's next to the bottom of a bit of a cliff face, and there are trees all around. But not just any trees. These are gigantic, the smallest of which could basically engulf a house with its diameter. They tower up into the sky - which is itself a lavender hue - before extending massive branches which shade the ground. The tree trunks are green, with periodic flower blooms on them, while the leaves are a sky blue, the same as the grass beneath the party's feet. Bushes growing in strange geometric shapes dot the ground.
"No offense, Theo," Evelyn says, laughing, "But I don't think your tree is all that impressive height-wise anymore."
"It's all so... giant," Ayah breathes. "My sister's shown me a few different realms, but they were all so much more... dull and ordinary than this."

"The idea that there could be a tree Pokemon that is bigger than one of these is really unsettling. This must be how Joltik feel bout just about everything.". Amaranth replies with a quiet sense of awe, taking in the strange colors of the alien forest. "Glad we could see it together Ayah.". They squeezed her hand.

Kai let out a sound of excitement, looking around with wonder at all the things about. No wonder the Pokemon would be different in an environment like this. He was practically giddy at the thought of meeting one as fast as they could. "Come on, come on, Let's see if we can find more things!"

"Shouldn't have to go too far," Zach says, "there tend to be-" the rest of his words are drowned out by a screeching cry, what sounds vaguely like a bird.
"Oookay, maybe a bit too close!" he says, backing up, as, maybe five hundred feet ahead, a bipedal bug - probably about the size of a person - looks to dash and bound and weave across the land, with what could only charitably be described as a "maybe-bird" close behind it.
It looks partially like a pure white stubby winged snake, with furred feathers adorning its body, extending out in six peculiar wings. The head at the top of its long neck holds only eyes, fixated on the bug; another screech emits from the thing, and it seems to have fanged maws in the center of each of all four talons beneath its body, each one able to at the very least bite a human in half with that size.
The tables all turn in an instant, though, as the bug runs for a tree... before jumping up behind the 'bird', doing a flip, and giving it a diving kick. That added momentum helps it to crash into the tree... which immediately begins to writhe, the "trunks" seeming to be not trunks at all, but vines draped on the trunks. They grow swiftly, entangling the bird despite its attempts at fighting, and soon, with sharp crackings of bones, the screeches die down, the creature fully enveloped in the green mass, only a few feathers showing where it once was.
"...and that's why you don't touch the trees," Zach says, lamely.
"Understatement of the year..." Evelyn mutters.
The bug the creature was chasing seems to be pausing to catch its breath... and then it notices the humans, and stares at them, frozen, simply breathing.

"I like this place a little less." Theo comments, admiring the bug before letting his hair down, and stepping away from the group a short distance giving it a wave. "We ain't big 'nough to eatcha, so no need to worry bout that none!" He offers the strange Pokemon a nice smile, and exudes confidence and good humor.

The bug slowly backs away a few steps as the human approaches, keeping its eyes fixed on him. It makes motions like it wants to bolt, but it hasn't yet. There seems to be curiosity, but also wariness... which is probably justified, given that, in this world, curiosity very much could get you killed. It lets out a bit of a soft trilling whistle, the meaning of which isn't exactly decipherable.
