"...No, no they didn't have safe where you come from. Follow me.". Theodore waved it along, looking around for the seabird. Maybe if he could show her that the world here was so much smaller, she would start to relax. Not necessarily something for one day, but her eyes still had something transfixing about them.

Gingerly, it follows along, constantly on the lookout for who-knows-what. Even driven by curiosity, the gaze mostly doesn't linger, it instead repeatedly returns to the area of interest.
The sea bird is fortunately (or unfortunately) easy to find, perching near the edge of the ocean cliff. Repeatedly, the small blue and white creature rears its head back to let out an irritating screech. And every time, the bug flinches, making sure to position Amaranth in between it and the bird.

"Shoo, get out of here!". He closes with the obnoxious bird. "I get that birds make you nervous, really they are just super obnoxious. SCOOT YOU RAT WITH WINGS!"

Both the bird and the bug jump back at the sudden noise. The bug is ultimately fine, if shaking a bit... while the bird has to struggle to start flying because it stumbled off the cliff. It ultimately seems to have made it, but it flies away, cries fading off into a general din with others in the distance.

"See? It is okay. Nothing is going to grab you or try to eat you here.". Amaranth approached the insect again. "I didn't even have to attack it, just made some noise and it left. Are you hungry? Tired? We can go find some fruit, or lay in the flowers for a bit."

It seems to ponder, before looking at the human, then elsewhere, then back... before slowly making its way back towards the tree that'd been touched before. A ginger approach... before finally, slowly reaching out. The lightest touch is made, before a lightning fast withdrawal and suddenly jumping several meters back.
The approach is repeated. Each time the touch lasting longer and longer, tension visible as though the bug's afraid the tree's just lulling it into a false sense of security. But eventually, some of that stress seems to leave it, as its motions become more languid, and less sharp. And it takes a seat in the middle of the flowers, leaning back on its hands, just staring off into the bright blue sky.

Having a seat beside it, Amaranth offered a big smile. "You did good today. It was hard but you got through it with some help.". He laid back and brought his hat to rest over his chest.
"It is a beautiful place isn't it? More fitting for something frail...". He spoke more to himself then the Pokemon. "If it can't offer anything she wants more than a future with her parents... Eh... It's not important."

The bug looks at Amaranth with some confusion on its face. It seems to understand the words enough, but not necessarily what they're trying to convey at the end.
The bug picks out one particular flower that it seems to fixate on, gingerly picking it and holding it like the most precious thing in the world. Just slowly bringing it up to its face and staring at it.
Ayah sits down on Amaranth's other side. "You doing okay?" she asks. "You seemed to get a bit... mutter-y there."

"Just... Worried about what happens when this is all over. You going home to your folks, introducing the new me to Mom...". They wrapped their arms around their knees, sitting more upright. "I wrote a legend here... but those don't grow on their own. Nobody really knows, and I would miss this place. Miss you too. Maybe I am just tired.". She socially hid behind that notion.

"I... I know. I don't know what's going to happen either," Ayah says, leaning against Amaranth. "I'm... just trying not to worry about things until I have to. The last few days... weeks, even... have all been so much. It's... it's okay to not know where things are going. We can figure things out when the time comes, okay?"
The bug looks over at the pair, and copies Amaranth's pose of arms around knees. It looks a little silly with legs about twice as long as the rest of its body.

"We? Are you sure?". They smiled shyly, then laughed when he noticed Pheramosa's posturing. "Look Ayah, twins."

"Look, I'm sure not wanting to have to go through this all alone!" she says.
She looks over at the bug, and laughs. "You're right, I'm seeing double. Can't tell the two of you apart."
The Pheramosa joins in the laughter, with a gentle chiming noise. It's not quite obvious if it's laughing, too, or just joining in the noise.

"I happen to think ...she? Is the prettier one... Maybe it's a he... I still feel kind of bad about Belle. ...Nobody will even know what this Pokemon is... Boy that will be awkward explaining where I got them from."

There's a shrugging motion from the bug.
"Well, uh… we'll cross that bridge at some point," Ayah says, laughing. "I'm going to have to figure out the same with Crystal. I guess just keeping them out inside the house is what'd have to happen, given what everyone else has gone through."

"Ceilings might be a bit low for my new friend, but that does sound nice... Can't put off our responsibilities for too long at any rate. Want to share a meal and have a cuddle to round out the night? Maybe make a game plan for tomorrow?"

"That sounds nice..." Ayah says, nodding. "We can put off planning a little bit until after that. It's been a stressful day already."
The bug gives a god, before going back to running a single finger gently over the petals of a flower.
"Well, I think you've got someone else who appreciates flowers," Ayah laughs.

"I'd appreciate anything that wasn't going to violently savage me when it normally would. Can you imagine an island where like... Six was wild and would chase you down for food, but you thought they were harmless trees?". Amaranth got up with a shudder. "You what, let's head inside and enjoy the sunset... The stars... And something sweet. I'm thinking chocolate?"

"Yeah, that would be terrifying. He's scary enough when you don't know him as he is," Ayah laughs. "And, yeah. I'd like that."
Later that evening, the pair sit on the outlook overlooking the ocean as the sun sets to the west. "I used to sit here all the time, just watching the sun go down. Seeing all the other lands, far off in the distance. Wondering what they were like, because they seemed so away. Most of the time it was alone. Sometimes with my sister. I'm glad to have someone else to share this with," she says, as the sounds of the waves below and the gentle sea breeze wash over them.

"I was sort of the same growing up but it was always the moon and the stars. Wondering after Dad, imagining some grand standard far above the norm and aiming for that. A man I'd never met, idealized and idolized... Why do you figure people go for what is out of reach when everything they could ever want is right next to them?". They looked out over the water and fell quiet for a long moment.
"Mom was great to me. A wonderful teacher, kept me on the straight and narrow. Loved me dearly. Shame I fought to find something better so hard."

"What's out of reach, you can never be disappointed by," Ayah says. "You can believe that the world's better, that people are different, that a particular individual is flawless. It's so easy to dismiss what you have, because you can't help but notice the flaws. You have to acknowledge them. Something that lives only in your imagination can be shaped however."
"She sounds wonderful," she adds, a little wistfully.
