"Oh... wow," Lucille breathes. "The people back then must have all been amazing..."
"I know, short fuse, I was giving you a hard time," Magnolia says. "I have eyes and a brain. And I've seen Electric types before. It's not a skill that I've seen before, though."
Rainbow seems to have mostly just... hung back near the fire, from the sounds of it. She just didn't want to get in the way.
Tobias laughs at Bea's question, a single sharp - though jovial - bark. "Look, none of us have ever been further than Lilycove. This is Lucille's first time even off the island. Also," he grins sardonically, "we're alive, aren't we? That should be all the answer you need."

"I've extensively studied Pokemon, and never seen anything like it either." Bee replied to Magnolia with a frown. "Known unknowns and unknown unknowns..." The girl mutters softly with a frown. "You are way too excited about this Tobias, that was a singular engagement... albeit with a great deal of type disadvantages... and four, almost five were downed. My medical supplies can't hold up under numbers like that. One thing I didn't learn, was how to forage for powdered such and such, or dried something else."

"We just need to stock up at the apothecaries of the towns we go in," he shrugs. "Besides, we went in half-asleep, against opponents that could counteract our best weapons. It can only get better from here."
"Yeah, well, you weren't the one shocked by that redirection," Thomas grumbles.

"In the dark... over the ocean amidst our longest period of uninterrupted travel." The trainer commented, and began to pace. "As many disadvantages as we could be put at, we were. I'll chock it to coincidence this time, but if it recurs, I may need to rethink how I view the shadow aether infected Pokemon. If they are capable of strategic thought and learning, that will cause far more problems in the future, once we've arrived in confined spaces."

"Look, if they were capable of learning," Magnolia says, dismissively, "we'd be in a lot more trouble than we are now. Exploiting their stupidity is how we come ahead. They may be cunning, but not smart. That's how it's always been."

"I dearly hope that remains the case until the end of this endeavor. At any rate, I've finished tending the wounded, and more rest would be good for most of us until morning. Rest while you can." Encouraging the others, she settled quietly against Rainbow, not being at all shy about moving in against the Celebi after the night's ordeal.

Bea's rest is tumultuous after it all, with a variety of figures - some she recognizes, some she doesn't, some she thinks she should, but most prominently Rainbow - in various scenes. It's all ethereal, scenes shifting as soon as something maybe concrete is there; nothing is clear. Fighting. Death. Chaos. Words drift and wind through. "She is the cause, she is the key... she has to be ended to set things right..."
And then morning arrives. The sentinels are busy warming food over the fire as Bea wakes up.
"You feeling all right?" Rainbow asks. "You were tossing and turning all night."

"Dark dreams... or maybe those signals of unknown origin that Magnezone are said to receive." The girl offered Rainbow a half smile, but her expression was strangely distant, attention moving skyward. "Stay close to me? Just in case it's your Mom nagging me at range to look after you?" She teased softly. "Should I expect any rough patches between Lilycove and Rustboro?"

"I don't think my mom can do that," Rainbow says, giggling. "Otherwise I'd never have a moment of peace, I'm sure." She turns more serious. "Just... let me know if it's too bad, if you need to rest for a little bit before pressing onwards."
"The only real rough patch after this is the stretch between Lilycove and Mauville," she adds. "Mauville to Verdanturf and Verdanturf to Rustboro are mostly pacified because of how close they are. To Mauville, though... it's a long ways. Going north means you've got Fortree a shorter distance away to restock... but you have to deal with the Fortree Forest, and a journey about half as long again as if you'd gone south. No real good options either way."

"I'll see about bulking out my supply of medicines when we reach Lilycove. I'll need it if this run of bad luck continues." Rubbing one of her eyes more out of habit then a need to clear anything out of it, she gave a powerful yawn. "I miss full nights sleeps and beds already. Can't imagine doing a forced march on half steam for days at a time, but here we are." At Rainbow's route descriptors she cocked her head quizzically. "What about going from Lilycove, over or around Mt. Pyre, towards Mauville, then Mauville straight to Rustboro? Is there any reason we can't go 'as the murkrow flies'?"

"That is the south route," Rainbow says. "It's just stretches of dense forest there, all the way from Mt. Pyre to Mauville. Barely a path at all. And the mountain... well, it sure seems less welcoming than in your time."
"Basically, the choices boil down to some less dense wildlife - except for one section - and a rest stop, but a longer route overall, or a shorter route, but a lot more territory that'll likely be ripe with Pokémon. Neither is very fun, I've take both. Hopefully with more people it's better... at least you can get a good sleep."

"Right, with the dangers there won't be any neatly manicured routes that have swaths of cleared foliage." The trainer paused to rub her temples. "We aren't in a terrible hurry, and we are looking to gather allies as we near our destination. The longer and potentially safer route is probably the better choice."
Another little yawn. "Given we landed on a deserted island and still managed to be attacked, I would rather not tempt fate by going the road teeming with giants."

"I will warn that we likely won't be able to get anyone from Fortree," Rainbow says. "They have a hard enough life in that forest as-is, they're not going to be likely to be willing to spare anyone. I do expect that they'd be happy to have visitors, though."
"I meam, most Pokémon aren't that big," Magnolia say, dryly. "There are just some that are a little... extraordinary."

"More town stops might make for more allies, but I don't know the social or political climate of this time. I imagine we're less likely to see people overly keen on following Royal orders further from that particular seat of power, but I can't know for sure." Moving to join the others for breakfast, she gives her tail a languid stretch. "Plans that we can make later, it's just Lilycove for now."

"The power will be respected," Magnolia says. "For if they refuse, it will be a mark of them turning against the whole. They will be alone, outcast."
"However... the authority in this case simply says 'hey, these guys are going on an authorized excursion, so they're not just lying about saying what they're doing,'" Thomas says. "There's no impetus for anyone to join. It's just saying that we're not trying to convince people off on a crazy fools errand in the name of the realm without there being some confidence in it."

"That... really doesn't do us many favors in the grand scheme of things. I suppose it's the best I can ask for with how angry Alissa made King Gaius." Beatrice smiled a little at the memory before heaving her shoulders amicably and tucking into breakfast. "It will be nice to get back to civilization. I haven't missed buildings this much ever."

"Someone made the King angry," Magnolia asks, raising a questioning eyebrow, "and you still managed to get him to sign off on this? I am... incredibly surprised. One does not exactly disobey the monarchy."
"Well... Beatrice is from the past," Lucille says to the dragon, "I can only imagine that her tales of what was there might have caused some feeling of inadequacy. I can't imagine the Golden Age... even these small tastes, it's incredible what every person can do. Our stories can't even begin to cover the majesty of what once was..."

"I suspect his wife, and the gift I brought forward with me both had a great deal to do with it. The past wasn't as pristine and perfect as you make it out to be Lucille. It's true we had a lot of freedoms, and so much safety that sending children to explore and face potential dangers was common practice, but we also had crime and pollution. Relationships were typically monogamous, partners being a coveted sort of thing. Humans unleashed Groudon and Kyogre on Hoenn twenty years before I was born, in an effort to reshape the world to better mankind. There are similar stories from other regions, regarding humans and Legendary Pokemon of immense power and influence." Folding her hands in her lap, she stared into the cook fire.
"Hybrid, Ascended, Bonded... whatever you call yourselves here. That was forced on a lot of people, many of them back in my time being treated like they were sub-human. Or monsters that had taken a Pokemon's life for some selfish reason or another. They were a new thing then, and nobody understood. There were a few that wanted to, I was going to prove it. Prove that they were victims, or that the Pokemon lived on with them." Shaking her head, eyes losing focus, she stilled. "When I realized the scope of time, and how far my research would actually reach, none of that mattered anymore."

"O-oh..." Lucile says, her voice catching a bit. It seems that the image she'd built up in her head for the last day did not quite measure up anymore. "But... people are people. I guess... I guess it was safe enough that people just found reasons to hate each other," she says, sadly. "Because, at the end of the day here, no matter how much any one of us might not agree with another... we're all still people. We work together. To build great things."
"I suppose that people having the powers to control the ones who created the Deadlands," Tobias says, "that gives you a sense that you might be gods. When you're so strong that you no longer need a community... then that's where it all breaks down."

"That's very wise, and at least one of the two individuals involved in that event did learn such a lesson. He and the other were friends up until the point that conflict occurred. It wasn't just Groudon and Kyogre that made the Deadlands though, it was the lack of Rayquaza. The same woman who created the Bonded, brought the plague you're fighting now to this world. Drove Rayquaza from the earth after perverting what it was. The next time the Land and the Sea woke to do battle, there was no intermediary. There was no stopping it, and the Dark Age began."
Rubbing the back of her neck, she gave a small smile. "I like this time period, and the people in it. It makes me a little sad to think that everyone I've ever known is gone, but they're still back there. I can go see them again as long as I keep Rainbow safe."
