"Alright, I'll let you finish up your conversation here, though."
"Rayquaza?" comes the response, "...why Rayquaza? And... no, she hasn't really, not to any great degree. It's mostly just pain. Lots of pain. She doesn't like being near them at all."

"The radiation is both a particle and an energy, the wind carries the particulate. A Pokemon that could control the winds could, in theory, drive the material back to a focal point, so that it can be contained, or disposed of. Thank Elise for me, I'll be continuing my research in earnest."
Looking up again, a sheepish smile tickled at her cheeks. "Sorry this is taking so long, trying to explain myself in ways people can understand is hard sometimes."

"You can forget about any plan that involves Rayquaza," Evelyn messages. "And I will... though, that was all from long ago."
"No, no, it's fine," Rainbow says. "It's a nice forest."

Frowning at her PokeNav, she rolled her eyes up and to the side, Bee exhaled and typed back. "Is that a 'no, it's too dangerous' or 'it is impossible'? And where can I find those memoirs you mentioned?" Fidgeting with her glasses, she flopped onto her back and spoke to Rainbow. "Maybe I need a context for just how much power these Pokemon have, cause whenever I bring up using them for good, I'm met with soliloquy about danger and uncontrollable forces."

"Find a place you can be alone," Evelyn messages. "Then call me. There are things that need to be said that there shouldn't be records of. And you can probably find them in a library. Or a bookstore."
"...let's just say that there are some valleys that cut through the mountain range between Verdanturf and Rustboro," Rainbow says. "And that's still far away from the Deadlands.

"I... I see. You haven't noticed anyone in here in the last few minutes, have you Rainbow? She's asking for a private call." Bee sat up, looking perplexed. "This is not the direction I suspected this to go."

"I mean, there was that woman at the front. She said this was a public place." Rainbow says. "Could... always find a place to climb down, and then make our way back to the Center on the forest floor. I've seen a few stairwells scattered around, there's probably one nearby. That'd probably be private enough from eavesdroppers? Talking all the way down there?"

"Alright, let's head out then... Should be easier getting back to the center on the forest floor." Bee rose and slid the communicator back into her bag, she'd get ahold of Evelyn when they were properly secluded. "I have concerns about what she has to say, but I guess we'll know in a few minutes." Taking Rainbow's hand in hers, she started for the door.

The much more solid forest gives way to the elevated houses, platforms, and bridges of Fortree once again. The gym seems to have a stairwell built up against it on the far side (probably due to its artificialness), and so spiralling down to the forest floor doesn't take too long. And, thankfully, this means that in theory one could just walk on the ground to get back to the Gym.
A little away from the stairwell, with not really that many people on the bridges and platforms in the area above, Bea places her call. It's soon answered. "Sorry about all the... all this, but, again, there are things that really shouldn't be put to text publicly," the voice of Evelyn says. "You wanted to know about Rayquaza… if it could help fix things. It can't. It hasn't been around in about twenty-five years."

"It went missing more than two decades -after- Brendan woke it to deal with the other two?" Bee kept her voice low, lingering against one of the large trees and keeping her eyes skyward. "After the meteors struck Hoenn then, someone must've checked on it?" Her voice was tight.

"No. It's what called the meteors here in the first place. It caused the Dark Storm incident." Evelyn says, tersely. "When you have a good chunk of League resources you can... reappropriate, it made it not insurmountable for the mastermind to capture the sleeping beast. So, too, was a sample of alien DNA brought back from a space mission. The two were fused, and the resultant Pokémon was corrupted. Controlled. ...to a point."
"Dewford was, as I understand it, a test. Of its power. To see what it could do, and destroy some evidence," she sighs. "It was... quite the demonstration. A group of Trainers went to try and stop it from happening again. They wrecked or shut down several bases, including the one in Mossdeep you're trying to go for. Eventually, they confronted the traitor. Bested him. Broke his control over the beast. It ate him." There's some smugness in her voice at that. "But then they had to fight it, while it was out of control. Try and get it to calm down as it wildly called down meteors. In the end... they succeeded. Shattered the crystals that had been implanted in it to boost its power. And then it left. Tracked it out to space. We got the feeling that it just didn't want to be a danger to anyone anymore. We couldn't help it. Nothing could. So... that was the only way."

"..." Remaining silent for a long moment, Beatrice's uneven breathing was her only answer for long enough it may have caused Evelyn concern. "I have some bad news, both in regard to your hypothesis, and to the destruction it rained down." It was no wonder this was not common knowledge. No wonder that it was a secret kept do close to the chest.
"That corruption that takes root in a Pokemon's mind, after exposure. They take to babbling about the coming of the end times, of the void. Of life and existence being a lie. There is some vague sense of self preservation, but only as far as they feel strongly checked or threatened." Bee curled a lock of her hair tightly around a finger. "Not a good time to explain the why or how, you can have Elise confirm, if you need. It sounds as though it recovered enough semblance of sanity to retreat, but not enough to stop what is coming. That it might still have some role or direction in this. Is there anything on what it was... I guess hybridized with?"

"Nothing, no. It was still in storage while things were set up to be able to test it. The only scans that exist basically say it wasn't of this world." Evelyn goes quiet, too. "So... you no doubt can see why there can be no plans that involve it. We're simply fortunate that the weather hasn't gotten even worse."

"Without that intervention, there will be a cataclysm every time the pair wake and battle. One problem at a time, I get it, but... You don't build a house over an active volcano. I'll keep you appraised of further developments as I can. Likely to detour to Sootopolis from Lilycove. Plenty of research to do yet. I'll be safe."

"Look, we know all this," Evelyn says. "There's a reason we're trying all we can to keep those two asleep. Because there's nothing else that we can do. I only tell you this because you're doing your whole... thing. So it might help at some point. At the very least let you know what's not feasible. Good luck."
"So... uh... bad news?" Rainbow asks, hesitantly.

"What I thought might assist in the cleanup was the source of the contaminant in the first place. It has gone to space, and was lost track of. The League is aware, and taking strides to keep the others dormant, but that can't and doesn't last forever." The trainer explained in a low voice. "Cleaning everything up is pointless if the region is blown in half at a random awakening. "The Deadlands could spread. Let's... Just get some rest the rest of today. We have thousands of years to procrastinate." She smiled playfully.

"Well, uh, maybe it's lost forever?" Rainbow asks, clearly trying to paint a silver lining on this dark and heavy cloud. "At the very least... I haven't heard anything of it. And something like that... it would probably be noted."
"I'm sorry that your plan wasn't destined to bear fruit..." she says, before lightening a little. "But, yeah, I'm sure that we can figure something out in the next few thousand years." She reaches over to grab Bea's hand, despite the heights no longer being there.
The walk back to the Center is uneventful, though the path is clearly not made for walking on the ground. Thankfully, Bea doesn't need to go outside at all to get up to her and Rainbow's room, so it's almost as if it's a regular building.

"It's okay Rainbow, learning is never a waste even if it is something I can't really talk about." She replied, calm and collected until her friend took her hand. A curious confusion followed by pleased, shy understanding dawned on her. Beatrice liked this contact very much.
It felt like they returned to the center too quickly, the bug girl's mindfulness of their hand holding giving way to her usual trains of thought. "To think I ignored an entire field of study up until now on the grounds that there was few proofs." She comments with a grin. "Can't wait to see the secrets Mount Pyre and Sootopolis hold."

"I don't really know much about science," Rainbow says, "but doesn't few proofs mean that it's easier for you to discover something new? I would have thought you'd be all over that."

"Beings like the Celebi you are bonded to, Jirachi, the land, sky, and sea... You could spend your whole life looking for or trying to prove that they exist. I couldn't make a career on chasing fairy tales, but now seeing that those things are very real... Well. I know things a girl my age has no right to, nor can I talk about it. It has become knowledge for knowledge's sake."
