"Yeah, birds are neat," Robin says, "they come in all shapes and sizes. You have fluffy ones, sharp ones, small ones, big ones... there might be more fish in the world, but they don't have that same variety. Grew up around them, so I've seen a lot."
She turns to Kai. "Ah, hmm... most of the ones I have today are a little bit younger, so they might not be able to carry you... but," she peers upwards, squinting at the sky, "I think Scylla might be able to give you a ride, if you don't mind riding on metal."

Kai blushed a bit, surprised he was actually heard for a moment. "Oh, uh. I don't mind at all. I was wanting to know if it was possible with one of my own Pokemon, but not sure if Kalani is... stable enough to try that." he lets off a nervous chuckle as he pulls out the ball containing his Archeops, though hesitates before letting it out... probably better to ask first.
"You wanna look at him and see what you think about it?"

"Couple of mah friends caught a Skarmory, spose it wouldn't hurt to know how it feels to ride a mess of pointy wings and a real short fuse, but... Same time, I ain't super fond of giant monster movies."

Robin laughs. "You don't need my permission to fly with one of your own." She adopts a mock-serious tone. "Nope, sorry young man, we're going to have to stop you from flying wherever you want."
"If you want me to look at him I can, sure," she says. "I'm not as much an expert in them as my mother, but I can probably give a decently trained opinion."
She looks over at Theo. "And don't worry about flying just because you think you should fly. It doesn't agree with everyone... and it's a lot harder to stop abruptly than most activities." She gives a wry grin.

"If I'm honest, as a farmer I don't much care fer birds. Skarmory's alright, ain't never had one of them in our berry patch back home. The rest I'd rather do without." The boy announced rather tactlessly. "Specially Starly, they're worse then Pidgeys."

Kai tossed Kalani's ball up high, letting the ancient avian free as it swooped around before landing beside Kai. "Well, here he is. Ancient feathers and all."
He gave it a scratch on top of it's head, only really scratching the green scales atop it. The historic bird let him do it for a moment, but moved away after a moment and began combing it's own feather's with it's claws.

"It's all fine," Robin says, nonchalantly. "Not everyone likes everything. It's a fact of life. So, I wouldn't want to make you interact with birds if you don't want to interact with birds."
She looks over Kai's Archeops. "Hmm... strong wings, decent size... looks to be fine enough for a flight. The only issue'd be trust, really. And I can't judge that. Only you can."
The Archeops seems to be looking around idly, a mix of odd emptiness, with flashes of hunger as it looks at the other birds above. But it seems to make no motion to act on any of it.

Kai looked over at Kalani at the trust comment, not entirely sure what to make of the trust comment. He didn't ever really think much on how much his Pokemon trusted him before, he was pretty sure they all liked him, though Kalani was still pretty new to the team compared to the rest of his Pokemon...
"I trust him, can't say for the other way round for sure, but I'd like to think he does" He shrugged, what's the worst that could happen? He reached over and patted Kalani to get it's attention. "Wanna give flying together a shot, Kalani?"

Theodore contentedly picks out a tree and reclines against it to watch the others explore the air, and the things birds were capable of doing. Eyes lidded, he lets himself drowse a bit while Kai and Kalani bond.

The bird looks up at the boy, cocking its head. It doesn't really make any other motion, or give any indication of what's going through its head. It isn't shying away at all, but also making no motion to come closer. There's something distant about its expression, but it isn't hostile. It seems like the only way to know is to try.

Kai scratched his chin in thought for a second, before just nodding to himself. "Might as well give it a shot now, should I just... try and climb onto his back or is there some specific way about it?"
Despite asking questions, he had walked to behind it, just giving it pats and honestly trying to figure out how he was supposed to do this. He'd seen saddles on other birds and that'd probably be a good idea if they continue all of this actually, but without that he was left with guesses

"Make sure to stay clear of the wings," Robin directs. "Either in front or behind. With this guy, looks like the wings are front-balanced, so behind's better - with more mid-balanced birds, front tends to be better, because you don't need to lean as much to get a hold on the collar area."
With the Leader's guidance, Kai's able to get into a semi-comfortable position... upon-which the bird takes off into the air, suddenly leaving the ground behind. The people below grow smaller and smaller...

Kai hugs around the neck of Archeops, tensing up as they took off and screwing his eyes shut at first. After a moment he opened them and slacked his grip, looking down and letting out a whistle at how high up they were. The feeling of wind was nice, but admittedly his eyes were hard to keep open. He'd definitely have to get used to the wind if he wanted to do this more. "This is pretty nice, Kalani!"
He tries to lean back a bit, not sure if he'd cause the bird to unbalance if he did so taking it as slow as he could, he just wanted to be more sitting on than pressed up against his mount now that they had taken off.

He's able to lean back a little more upright, but it does definitely make him feel rather more unbalanced compared to before. The flight isn't exactly... smooth, every flap brings a jolt up and down, up and down, up and down...

Despite the jarring nature of the flight, Kai was having fun. though he definitely leaned back in, not liking the combo of unbalanced and the way Kalani flies. "Hey boy, you wanna head down now?!"

It takes a moment, but the bird begins to languidly spiral down to the ground, in a dizzying fashion. Soon enough, Kai finds himself back on the ground, though... a little unbalanced getting onto solid ground again - the spinning didn't quite stop getting off the bird.
"Well, you didn't fall off," Robin says, grinning, "so, I'd call that a win, huh?"

Kai kind of shakes his head as he climbs off, trying to shake it off. "It's a win, yeah. Didn't expect that landing to be so... spinny"
"Thanks for the tips and help, Miss Robin. Probably never would have even tried without that advice!" He puts on his own grin, though refuses to actually use his legs right now.

"Yeah, tomorrow is gonna be fun. Hope you throw your best at us!" As he mentions the group, Kai realizes he has no clue where Theo went. "Oh, wait, where'd Theo go?"
Scanning around, he hoped the others hadn't gone far. Though if they left him and Theo that'd be fine... worst case they'd meet up at the center tonight anyways.

Surprisingly, Theodore is napping on the sun dappled forest floor, propped against a tree. His expression is more at ease then it's been in a long time. Something about Fortree felt just right now, it was like coming home after a long time on the road.
