The attack doesn't seem to do as much as Melissa may have expected! Regardless, they start striking back! 2 seems to strengthen itself! 3 throws a feint, and switches types! 4 uses a sneaky move and ALSO switches types! 2 gains a stage in attack and accuracy!

Ribaldequin parries the sneaky blow, but dealing with so many attacks is clearly taking a toll; he's on his last legs. Still, he can go out with a bang! He gathers a ball of chi energy in his hands, eyeing the unwise Greninja that just stopped being all ghosty right in front of -
"Not that one," Melissa directs.
... okay, fine, he copies the sneaky punch. That's not nearly as cool a way to go out, but whatever. He hopes his trainer knows what she's doing.
Feint Attack is not very effective. Using Parry to avoid getting hit by Shadow Punch.

Well it seems Melissa was onto something, as that one falls, and it's a real Greninja! And the others back off, so it seems she nailed the right one!

"Hm. Thirty-three percent chance at this stage in the fight that I would guess correctly... bad luck on your part. Though I suppose the test as a whole has a twenty percent chance of being solved completely by fluke? Good puzzles are surprisingly hard to idiot-proof." Melissa recalls Ribaldequin. "Now, what's next? Am I permitted to heal, or is this a test of endurance as well as subterfuge?"

Melissa is informed she can in fact heal and she'll be called to a different room for the gym.

Melissa begins with her Forretress! "Autolycus! Prepare yourself; we shall meet subterfuge and trickery with OVERWHELMING FIREPOWER!"

Something that Melissa may have wanted herself pops out, a Porgon-Z!

It begins by converting itself to another type!

Autolycus begins with an opening salvo of slow-moving metallic projectiles! They seem like they should be easy to dodge, but they follow the Porygon's movements, speeding up dramatically every time it moves.

Autolycus takes advantage of the Porygon's proximity to ram itself into the more fragile-looking Pokemon!

Autolycus withdraws into its shell, letting most of the energy ablate harmlessly off its steel plating! Melissa applauds anyway. "A fine showing! I expected subterfuge rather than raw power, but I see you have both. Still, as you can see, my team is accustomed to high-energy environments."
The Forretress launches homing projectiles again.

It would need a turn to recooperate... but it goes down. Next up is an Alolan Muk of all things!
It seems to shrink itself, as the leader is now on the backfoot and could use a few free misses!

Fire bad! Ribaldequin catches the punch - ow - and uses it to yank the Muk's goopy arm painfully.
Counter! Ribaldequin resists one step further, meaning neutral since fire would normally be super-effective. Takes 42 damage. Muk loses 84 hp.

Ribaldequin looks a bit nonplussed. Is that it? Not to brag, but he's sort of an expert on destructive beams and blasts, and that one just doesn't quite cut it. Here's how you do it!
Bug is double resisted. Aura Sphere! Crit? 2FUVZ|MC1d20 3d8+45 Special Fighting-type damage
Of course, I'm pretty sure Venomoth resists this right back, but hey, not a lot of other options here... 1d20·3d8+45
