Zach gave a quick whistle, letting Frisk know not to do anything quite yet. For now, Zach would continue doing what he'd been doing. Trying to capture one of these pokemon. He pulled out a basic ball this time, not wanting to use his lure ball, and hurled it at the same target!

[Taking Roll thread result because dice was being an utter shit tonight] Zach's ball bobs the pup on the head and absorbs it inside. After a shake or two, it clicks closed Calm Female Houndour, 93 exp, Early Bird Ability, Ember, Leer, Howl, Smog, Beat Up Moves, 2 injuries, 43% hp The one still in melee with Zach lets out the same sound that earlier signalled a team attack... But Nobody Came... Zach looked to the pup at his feet, and pulled out another pokeball. "Aw, poor thing. We wouldn't split you guys up!" He tosses the ball carefully, not wanting to hurt these pokemon any further.

Unfortunately Zach's gentle throw falls short, and the ball doesn't even roll the whole way.
The pup, angry at his brother's capture, steps forward adn belches poison fumes at Zach!

The Houndour is caught completely off guard by the ball that hits him from behind, thrown at him by another Pokémon! The ball shakes once after a second but then clicks closed. Impish male Houndour, 93 exp, Flash Fire Ability, Ember, Leer, Howl, Smog, Beat Up Moves, 2 injuries, 43% hp Finally the battle is over, it was a tough one, but the trainers pulled through and are now free to patch themselves up, explore the den, and apply the 20exp their Pokémon just earned. |

Zach let out a long breath, giving Frisk a pat on the top of its rock. "Great job!" He returned the bug to his ball, feeling a bit bitter about Cass getting so hurt. He'd have to rethink his strategy. Maybe Cass wasn't meant for combat like this? Or maybe they just needed more training. Either way... He went to retrieve the balls he'd thrown, looking into the cave as he pulled his Great Ball from the ground.

Approaching the now empty cave he noticed something odd. It didn't seem like it had been dug out, more like it and the area just around it had been thrust up. Almost like by hte effect of a high-leveled Magnitude attack... What could have done that? Shining his light inside gets him another blinding glare, but angling it right he's able to get a better view. It is about 2 metres deep and big enough for him to crawl in. Along most of the back and some of the left wall is what looks like a vein that looks just like the stone Liz had found for him earlier. It might be possible for someoen with the right tools and knowledge to extract more stones from this... or someone without that could at least crack chunks off and hope for the best. As he retrieves his balls form the cave where they rolled to he finds another spherical object... it looks like an oversized marble... Translucent grey with two 'S' like patterns inside, one black and one orange. There's a few scraps of food that he assumes the pups had claimed as theirs.
Meanwhile, Adri is getting the 'Too many Pokémon' message on her Pokédex again... it's becoming a frequent beacon.
[The dogs have fiercely loyal personalities, and when released from their balls during relaxed situations will claim an area as belonging to them and you guys]

Zach places the balls back into his bag, nodding. He had thought that there'd be more of those stones here, but he hadn't expected to find a whole vein! The raised ground did worry him... Magnitude? All the way out here? There might be more to this than he thought... For now, he just made a mental note to mention it to Adri. He picks up the marble, curiously, and holds it up. Adri would want to see this... He began wiggling out of the little den, looking a bit excited.
"Adri, I was right! I thought we're find Fire Stones here, but, well, there's a VEIN. An untapped vein! Also, I think this place might have been made during a high level fight. Almost like a Ground Type pokemon rampaged around here... Or was looking for something. The pups must have set up camp after. So if we can tell the nearby town, they might be able to use these stones! Oh, and there was also this." He holds up the marble for her to see, but is reluctant to let it go. "It was near my pokeballs... I don't know what it means though. Maybe we should cal your mom in the morning? She was part of the Elite Four, she could know what it means!"

Adri finished cleaning her burns and approached Zach at his call.
"Oh, wow! I think I've seen my mom give some items with these in them to some of her Pokemon so they probably strengthen Pokemon in some way. She also has a pair of earrings with a similar pattern. Mind if I keep it for now so I can show it to her later?" Adri said excitedly at the marble before noticing the fire stone vein.
"OH MY ARCEUS WHAT IS THIS" she cried, her mouth wide as she pulled out her sketchpad and began madly scribbling in it. "This... And out here... But why... Maybe... No, that can't be it. What about... No, there's been low seismic activity. Hmm" she mumbled to herself before kneeling and grabbing a maker, broken piece of fire stone and turning it around in her hand to observe it properly.

Zach was hesitant to part with the marble, and was glad when her attention was diverted. He placed it in one of the more secure pockets in his backpack, shaking his head. "We'll ask her about it, but I really wanna hang onto it..." He watches her examine the stone, and pulls out the one Liz brought him earlier, still in the jar.
"Liz found one earlier for me. I don't know if it came from this vein or not... And it seems like someone dug it up. But to go through all that trouble and leave it untouched seems weird, don't you think?" Surely someone looking for the Fire stone vein would have taken some of it with them. But if they weren't looking for the Fire Stone... "Save this place on your Dex, quick. We should get out of here. I have a... A bad feeling."

Adri rolls her eyes at Zach's possessiveness.
"I'm not keeping it, silly. I just want to study it, sketch it a bit and send some pictures to my mom. You'll get it back afterwards. Give me just a second" she said as she crawled into the vein and tried to take a fire stone or a shard from the ground to study it later. She took a quick picture of the place and saved it in her dex.
"I'll sketch this once we get to the center. It's a pretty sight at the very least" she thought to herself.

Adri doesn't find any other shards beyond the one she grabbed before as the rest is solid and would need to be hit first to get any loose. The sky is starting to turn to a red-purple, you can see through the gaps in the trees straight above you.

After about 20 seconds of dialing Marion's face appears on the screen. "Adri!" She says with a smile, she pauses for a second squinting at the screen. "Are you camping? It's rather dark, where have you gotten too?"

Adri smiles and shakes her head.
"We're staying in Augite Village but Zach dragged me out for some late-night exploring of the nearby woods and we stumbled upon something I had to show you"
She leaned into the vein and made sure the light from her torch allowed the fire stones to be easily recognizable before showing Marion her shard.
"We've stumbled upon what is, as far as I can tell, a fire stone vein that was forced out of the ground somehow. With all the poacher reports in the area we thought it would be better to tell someone and, well, you're the only one I feel confident telling this to"
She then showed Marion the marble.
"We also found this, along with three Houndoor pups we captured. Do you know what it might be?"

Marion listens intently as Adri decribes what she found. When Adri shows her the marble she speaks up though "Oh! You've found on already? I just knew you would, but that was fast! That is a mega stone, and judging by the colours and the Houndour pups it's a Houndoomite. With Mega Stones fully evolved Pokémon can power up again for a while, but you need ot also have a special stone called a key stone." She says, casually flicking one of her keystone earings. As she does you can recognise the similar S pattern, matchign the pattern in the Houndoomite Zach found.

Adri clapped her hands in front of her mouth.
"So that's how Shamisen and Gorm go all spiky! Okay, good to know what it is even if we can't make use of it yet. I might try to get some fire stones from the vein but I'm not sure if I'll manage. Speaking of which, do you have an idea of who would do this? There's been talk of poachers being seen in the area yesterday" Adri went on. She didn't want to stay out in the open but in her opinion the information was too important to not mention at least.
