The bees are stepping up their game. Both of Mayu's Pokemon are forced to draw on hidden reserves of toughness, learned under the tutelage of a trainer who understands concepts like 'relaxation' and 'leniency' only in the vaguest academic sense.

Both of Mayu's Pokemon succumb to the attacks, too exhausted to resist the venom running through their veins any longer. Mayu sends out her last two Pokemon, and hopes that her Tropius is tough enough to withstand the Bug- and Poison-typed onslaught sure to come her way.
Lambda starts off by whipping a blast of wind into the Beedrill right in front, hoping to get it out of her face before it can sting. Rho adds in an electrified punch before waddling forward to try to pin down the larger Beedrill.

Well, that takes care of the last minion. Unfortunately, this seems to send the Queen into a frenzy. Her attacks increase in frequency, clearly hoping to overwhelm the fresh Pokemon she faces.

Ow. Rho is tough, but... not that tough. He's not going to last very long at this rate. Still, he can keep trying. He lashes out with his signature tongue, trying to wrap the Beedrill up while Lambda bombards it with wind.

Tough as she is, Lambda is caught off-guard by the sheer ferocity of the attack; like Mayu's other Pokemon, she's sturdy enough to endure it... but only barely. She raises her wings one last time, flapping furiously...

Lambda's attack definitely does damage, and the Queen looks quite weary, but it pulls itself together enough to evade Mayu's attempt at a finisher. It rapidly stabs Lambda again, then turns its gaze towards Mayu.

Mayu knows a losing proposition when she sees one. Tempting though it is to try to finish the queen off, her toughest Pokemon fell in seconds, and she is much, much squisher. She recalls Lambda and books it.

The Queen retreats to her hive, though a swarm of additional soldiers chase Mayu until she reaches the "transfer point" between Zone 1 and Zone 2 of the Forest Dungeon. Thankfully, they seem unable to follow any further. Nevertheless, the "game" (or whatever the heck these floating blue screens are) decides that Mayu "won", and grants her rewards. Though it does mention she missed out on obtaining the 'special boss item' by not fully defeating it. She also finds herself somehow warped back to the Pewter side of Viridian Forest. The Dungeon appears to be no longer accessible after defeating the Boss.
Mayu earns a Milestone for completing the dungeon, 26 Poke XP from defeating the boss, and an additional 240 Poke XP for defeating the swarms of soldier/minion Beedrill.

While walking casually along Route 24, Mayu spots a Heracross attached to a tree. Heracross tend to be fairly strong, especially against elemental attacks...

Interesting. Mayu has never paid much attention to Bug-types, considering them unwieldy and usually too weak to bother with, but Heracross has a reputation for strength. Mayu approaches closer, watching to see how (if?) it reacts to her presence.

Mayu's keen observational skills allow her to realize it's not nearly as distracted by its meal of tree sap as it wants to appear. It's watching her carefully as it continues to eat. After a short time, it seems to finish eating, but continues to feign doing so in case she isn't aware that it is aware of her.

Mayu releases Alpha, who spots his presumed enemy and prepares to leap forward... only to stop at a gesture from his master. She's not trying to start a fight (yet, anyway). She just wants to provoke a reaction.

As soon as Alpha appears on the field, the Heracross leaps off its tree and stands ready to defend itself. It doesn't flee, nor does it start the fight. It merely stands opposed to Alpha and waits.

"Would you like to fight?" Mayu inquires. After all, she wouldn't simply attack a fellow trainer without a word; why should Pokemon be different? Of course some are too aggressive, skittish, or stupid to be worth talking to, but this one seems fairly intelligent. It will be interesting to see how Alpha manages to measure up to a fellow Fighting-type.
