Nothing to save the Tropius from icy doom this time. Mayu recalls her banannasaur and sends out Beta to replace her. The hyena-Pokemon bounds forward, jaws crackling with electricity - Mayu has prepared for this Gym.

Leader Aleisandra enters the room a few minutes after Mayu arrives. She lays out the rules for the fight, though they are identical to the Gym Trainer fight from before, excepting the part where there are two trainers (Alei and Mayu) instead of three. Bereft of her usual all-concealing clothing, Mayu's least human feature is revealed: her hands, ill-shaped flattened things that resemble a child's drawing of a hand more than the actual thing, with only three fingers and a thumb. She doesn't like being exposed like this. It makes her feel like a small child, being judged by standards she cannot meet and doesn't understand.
She begins with the same pair she did last time: Alpha and Lambda.

Despite what should be a devastating attack, Corsola seems like it barely felt the move. A briefly glowing green bracer on one of its coral stalks happens to explain the phenomenon. A Type Brace.
Wartortle unleashes a wave of bubbles in Alpha's face while Alei drifts marginally closer to get a bead on Mayu. This results in a large burst of water moving rapidly towards her.

Heh. Naturally. Wartortle, thankfully, does not have one of these. Likely due to a lack of a double-weakness to Grass. Or perhaps out of some semblance of fairness? Pfft. Nah. It's probably the first. In any case, Corsola throws some magic rocks at Lambda.

Rocks, Tropius's other one weakness! Ow. The banannasaur is looking pretty battered at this point... which means it's time to get cracking. Lambda whips another gleaming leaf at Wartortle, and in a synchronized motion her Pokemon switches enemies, allowing Alpha to punch the little coral Pokemon while Lambda continues her leaf-barrage. Wartortle handles the shiny leaves well enough, but has to put up a barrier to block the regular ones immediately after. Protect! Corsola clearly cannot handle non-Grass attacks nearly as well, based on the squeak it makes when punched. It blasts Alpha with scalding hot water.

Both of Mayu's Pokemon look pretty battered after all of that, but neither of them is quite ready to give in. Alpha launches another punch at Corsola; Lambda does her thing with the leaves. And Mayu steps away to line up a blast of ice that hits both Aleisandra and one of her Pokemon.
