Bellsprout! The signature of Bellsprout Tower... in a completely different region. Gene approaches the slender plant, full of intent to capture its sinuous form.

Gene gives the Bellsprout a nice smile as she pulls out a pokeball and releases her Birthday Pichu.

"I'd like to catch you," she states her intentions clearly as she pulls out another Pokeball, this one empty, "Could you humor me?".

Pichu cried pitifully at the sudden whip of the vines. "Pichu! Just a quick Present!" Gene ordered from the sidelines, but held her actions until after her partner acted.

Obeying, Pichu tossed a present at the Bellsprout.

Gene retrieves the Pokeball and scolds her Pichu lightly for hitting so hard. The Pichu, however, doesn't appear the least bit reflective. That Bellsprout whapped it first! And really hard!

The nagging and stubborn ignoring continue as Gene cradles her badly injured Pichu in her arms and walks her way into her next wild encounter.

Pichu and Gene are simultaneously so surprised that they throw out whatever: a present from Birthday and then a ball from Gene.

Gene does some quick swapping around and pulls a face when she checks the Rowlet's personal information. Oh... A modest Rowlet... This was going to take some work to make work.

Working out the details of this new capture that's a potential contender for one of her gym battle spots, Gene skillfully bats away any bugcatchers' attempts to have a battle of attrition with her. She'll deal with them later when she's not trying to make her way through unfamiliar territory.

She makes it out the other end of Viridian Forest relatively unscathed before she even knows it. Seeing the sunlight shine on the ground unimpeded by thick foliage prompts Gene to turn around and look at the forest behind her. That was it? No sudden Beedrill attacks? No being poisoned by a Weedle and having Pokemon after Pokemon faint? Just having her Pichu take one whopping hit and that was all? Wow. That was a lot easier than she thought it would be.

Although, perhaps she spoke too soon because before even mandatory encounter can hit her, Gene gets hit with a route 2 wild encounter.

Gene's eyes shine when she sees the familiar Pokemon. Not this one specifically, of course, but suffice to say, Furfrou was a favorite among the rich pet owners. She turns towards the Furfrou and, seeing its fabulous fur, shows off her fabulous hair, giving her sapphire locks a light flip with her hand.
