According to reviews of previous shows that the Virdian Dance Academy has put on before, they're like a 'modernized' version of the Kimono Girls from Ecruteak City. Oh, they still offer courses in traditional dance, and even have a friendly rivalry with the aforementioned Kimono Girls; they just specialize in more modern types of dance. The kind with a lot more acrobatics and flexibility required. They offer a free 'trial' class to anyone who wants to drop by once a month. Shame that this month's trial period has already passed. In any case, they always allow people to spectate the classes, so long as they are respectful.
In fact, the Dance Academy's primary instructor (and founder/owner), Miranda, occasionally allows people to battle her in order to win a free lesson. This is quite popular among trainers who want to be able to hold their own in Advanced Gym Challenges or the League. (If you beat Miranda in a Pokemon Battle, you get the base Dancer feature for free. However, you would have to spend feats as normal to progress further in it.)

Gene stops by the dance academy and after looking into some of the classes and seeing what's going on, sees a small notice about how its possible to fight Miranda. This perks up her interest, with or without the promise of free lessons. She looks into the class Miranda is teaching and makes a record of her on her SnapChatot. It probably won't do her any good in a fight today, not until she delves into it a little bit more, but in a future fight? Sure. Whenever Miranda frees up, Gene steps forwards to greet her. "Hello, Ms. Miranda, I've heard you're a formidable battler? I'm sorry for being so sudden, but do you mind having a go with this beginner? I would very much appreciate the experience."

From: pokemonbypost.boards.net/post/99897/threadGene turns in for the day and hopefully get a good night's rest at the Pokemon Center. When she wakes up the next morning, she eats breakfast, trains her Pokemon, and heads out, bright and early, ready to tackle the Viridian Forest! Although, prior to that, there was route... 2, was it? She had also heard rumors of a cranky old man (or was it his descendant?) known for blocking the road until he got his morning coffee.

Route 2 is indeed the next stop before Viridian Forest, and there is in fact an old man lying in the middle of the road. Well, was. Police have just arrived to encourage him to move...he's being belligerent. He complains loudly about 'police brutality' when they haven't even touched him yet. The man's antics continue for a few minutes before the police just arrest him for disorderly conduct and public intoxication. He's carted off to a holding cell for likely the next several hours, with a slightly younger woman sighing and shaking her head in their wake. The way is clear!

Well, darn. Gene was hoping for some elderly wisdom on how to catch Pokemon. (You know, barring the pact she's caught a whole party's worth already.)
She gives the sighing woman a nod and a greeting as she passes on through, but otherwise makes her unimpeded way onto Route 2. She takes a brisk walk, while still enjoying the experience of the adventure. For the time being, however, she doesn't go out of her way to rile up any fights or catch any Pokemon.
Something tells her that she probably won't successfully make it through Viridian Forest on just one try, so she wants to go into it at as full strength as possible.

It would seem that the Viridian side of Route 2 is empty of Trainers. The tall grass that used to be here has been cut back, so there are no wild Pokemon to encounter either. Three guesses what's waiting on the far side of the forest...

Hey now. Hey now. Hopefully not a gauntlet of trainers because Gene is about to head to the encounter thread here. She'd be walking the road most traveled, but a bit more active. Active enough, at least, to keep her eyes peeled for any forest-type Pokemon. To: pokemonbypost.boards.net/post/99912/thread

From: pokemonbypost.boards.net/post/100097/threadAs soon as she can, Gene entered Pewter City. Her first stop in the city was the Pokemon Center, where she healed her Pokemon to full and reserved a room. She took a little time to make records of her new Pokemon and their new moves, to be archived right before going to sleep tonight. Then she went right back out the city. If she recalled correctly, there was a tunnel near Pewter. She didn't plan to travel through it, but she thought it might be an interesting place to take some pictures for her SnapChatot.

Indeed there is a tunnel. It is known as "Diglett's Cave" or "Diglett's Tunnel". It is perhaps the easiest place to find said Pokemon as well.

Gene peeks around the tunnel to find a picturesque spot to take a quick selfie in.

Well, there's that dirt corner over there. Or...that other dirt corner on the opposite side. Oh hey, a ladder leading down into the tunnel proper! Yeah, there's not much here that could be considered 'picturesque'.

Well, Gene is slightly disappointed. However, since she's already here and doesn't have anything better to do, she decides on the spot to venture down the ladder into the tunnel.
