You've sat through the ridiculously half-assed orientation of Professor (Blue) Oak, and received your starter Pokemon. You are now free to go where you will; whether that be following the 'traditional' route in the footsteps of Kanto's famous Red and Blue, or forging your own path and starting out in one of the other cities (excluding Cinnabar and Viridian).

Generic Gene Eric would of course take the traditional route! A Pallet Town start! Though, before doing anything else, she took the new Pichu she nabbed because she woke up too late to get any of the other starters, in standard journey-starting fashion, and went in reverse. Generic, she may be. Stupid, she was not. That first gym was a ground type, and she wasn't going to just cross her fingers and hope that she got a grass type before then or, more typically, that the sprinkler system malfunctions and causes a glitch. No, stuck with this tiny electric rat, she was going to try her darndest to find some sort of water type, so to the beach just south of Pallet Town she went. That isn't to say, she didn't love her Pichu. Already, even though she's only had Pichu for less than half a day, but if something happened to him (her? I forget the gender I gave the thing), she would kill everyone in this room and then herself. ((EDIT: And oh yes. Record Blue and any of the aides she met in the lab to archive once she takes an extended rest.) To: pokemonbypost.boards.net/post/99331/thread

From: pokemonbypost.boards.net/post/99392/threadGene healed Pichu at the Pokemon Center. After the jingle played and the Nurse Joy hoped to see her soon, she decided that now was the time to set forth, even if she hadn't quite gotten what she was looking for. Still, she had gotten several things that were quite good, and that was nice. To review: 3 Totodiles and 2 Sandiles. Whew. The Gator Gang was established with a short round of introductions in the PokeCenter. Then, with her bounty in tow, as a full team of six, Gene set off into the dangers of Route 1. Emiko emits some sort of strangled noise at being called Tater Tot again before storming off; looking for all the world like a child throwing a tantrum.

From: pokemonbypost.boards.net/post/99513/threadSummary: Gene beats Emiko's Cleffa and nicknames her Tater Tot. Gene snapped the perfect picture and was saving it when she realized... She totally forgot to get Tater Tot's phone number! She snaps her head up. and watches the back of the cute girl acting like the kid she continuously denied being. After a few seconds of just watching and consideration, she decides that yeah. She was going to want her phone number. They were going in the same direction anyways. Tater Tot had already turned a corner by this point, so Gene was left running to play catch-up. Though, unfortunately, her athletic ability wasn't very high...

Turns out that, in spite of her child-like size (and personality), she is quite athletic. She's already far ahead without even moving faster than a power-walk. Likely she hopes to never see Gene again, or at least to minimize the chance of future interactions by putting distance between them.

Gene isn't so invested that she keeps on charging. After maybe a minute of trying to catch up, she gives up and stops. Alas, there will be a next time.
For now, she just walks at her own pace to Viridian, enjoying the scenery around and chatting with her Birthday. Occasionally, she also calls out her other Pokemon. In this sort of leisurely manner, she makes it to the city.
In Viridian, the first thing she does is stop by the Pokemon Center to heal her Pichu and also arrange for a room for the night.

Seems that Gene is lucky to have booked a room when she did, as not five minutes later, she sees a veritable flood of newbie trainers all coming in looking for free room and board. (Hotels exist, but trainers stay for free at Pokemon Centers)

Gene leaves triumphantly. It's a little late, but she doesn't mind wandering around the city at night. She could take some time, sight see around Viridian, and maybe find a lucky Pokemon or two she can fight without causing a commotion. To: pokemonbypost.boards.net/post/99524/thread

From: pokemonbypost.boards.net/post/99536/threadGene sleeps at the center and wakes up bright and early the next day. While still bummed by her good luck the prior day and then her subsequent bad luck, she puts it behind her with breakfast. On the plus side, her Birthday showed that it was noone's Birthday Cake. She should be proud! Then, with fully healed Pokemon, she went about her daily training. She chose 6 pokemon to exp train, but regular trained all of her pokemon. Pichu, Hoppip, 2 Totodiles, and 2 Sandiles trained. She also took some time during her morning to archive all of the records she had previously made, including the records she made right then and there of each of her Pokemon and their moves. Following that, she decided she'd spend the day in Viridian City before braving the forest ahead. Sightsee a bit and maybe even gather some information about what to expect in the forest nowadays. Jean decided to start by asking around in the Pokemon Center. She looked for a random trainer who looked like they'd be open to talking.

Well, there is one person who is currently live-streaming their adventure via the Pokedex's phone/internet app. Probably best not to bother them in the middle of the stream though. That would be rude. That does, however, give Gene the idea to check her own Pokedex for apps related to traveling; and wouldn't you know it, there just so happens to be an app for that on the 'dex by default! After opening it up and letting it 'discover' her location, it offers options for Wild Pokemon Activity and the like in any of the nearby Routes.
Selecting 'Viridian Forest' brings up a list of the most common Pokemon in the area (Caterpie, Weedle, and Pidgey/Hoothoot) while also offering the option to learn more about what Pokemon Rangers have reported on a given species of Pokemon in the past three days.

Gene peruses the app, searching casually just to get used to it for the moment. Perhaps surprisingly, she's not searching by Pokemon, and foregoes the option after a blink. She's got Pokemon she wants to catch, certainly, but she's also not picky. She'll catch whatever she comes across. To her, what was more important was just crossing the forest safely. Therefore, rather than species, she tries to find where she can access the Pokemon Ranger reports by their level of threat/importance.
Although, halfway through her search, she decides she's going to enjoy her life a little. She pauses so that she can walk outside and find a nice place to sit in the city (after booking her room for the night, of course). Better to experience a little bit of Viridian City out there while searching than remaining stuck inside the same old Pokemon Center.
She finds a little cafe to sit at and, after ordering a cup of tea and a small pastry for breakfast, relaxes at an outside table while searching and eating.

Mhmm, mhmmm. Ah! There it is! Hmm. Says here that it's the tail end of breeding season for Beedrill, and entering into the migratory season. Caution is advised, but usually staying on the main path is enough. Beyond that, only the usual advisories apply: avoid leaving the main trails (especially at night), and don't feed/provoke the Wild Pokemon unless you intend to capture them.

Nurse Joy blinks in surprise. "I am afraid I have never heard of such a place before. I generally do not keep up to date on urban myths, however, so there may well be myths exactly like that that I have simply never heard before." She bows politely before asking Gene to please move on if she has no more business so that others who need aid can receive it more easily.

From: pokemonbypost.boards.net/post/99622/threadGene moves on as requested. She walks out of the Pokemon Center to explore the city some more. This time, she decides on a specific destination: the Viridian City Gym. She's not sure what, if anything, she can do there. However, since she was in the city, she may as well visit it once. Maybe she'll even be lucky enough to spectate a battle.

Alas for Gene, the Gym appears to be closed for the next few weeks. Seems that Leader Mei-Ling and her Cheer Squad are busy with a cheerleading competition elsewhere in the region.

How unfortunate. Gene turns around from the gym and starts mapping out her route, busses and all, the next point of interest in this city. She had heard about its Dance Academy. Although, the question of if there was anything to do there was another of its own. Amidst her [insert name of search engine giant] mapping of a route, she also checked the academy's website, if they had one, to see if they had any programs she could watch today.

Checking out the Dance Academy via Poké-Search allows Gene to plot out a route to reach it. The Academy's website itself states that it is open every day, and all are welcome.

Well, Gene figures. Why the hell not? She visits the academy, not sure what to expect outside of dancing.
