Brand finds a tree to lean against as he just enjoys the sight. The turquoise water and golden sand shining in the sun, the smells of New Bark carried on the wind and the sounds of both people and become enjoying life. The entire world brimming with potential, just waiting for him to decide what he wants.
And since he's here to expand his team, he should decide. The piplup line are considered ideal starters in Sinnoh, and for good reason. A naturally defensive line with the infamous steel typing and strong techniques for stalling a foe out made for a powerful combination. Add in a natural sense of pride, a surprising turn of speed in the water and the inherent versatility of the water type and the line could easily live up to its reputation. On the other hand, that Shellos was adorable. And the line itself was worthy of consideration - sea slugs that preferred to live in tidal pools but could manage to endure the heat of a desert were inherently remarkable. Like Piplup the line was inherently defensive, but it lacked the offensive options of the emperor penguin. Depsite that, it was still a water type and thus versatile, even if it needed more help in learning different moves. And they definitely looked cuter then Piplup.
Decision made, Brand walks up to the Shellos, ensuring it sees him coming before he releases Hathor to battle it. Speed 10

Seems like this particular Shellos is a bit on the fragile side. That hit shakes it up quite a bit before it retaliates by flinging wet sand.

From out of the woods along Route 29 comes something one doesn't often see this close to town: A Tangela! It seems...confused. Like it's not sure where it is or how it got here.

Brand pauses out of surprise more than anything else - Tangela were one of very few species of pokemon that had endured the passage of time, with archaelogical evidence for Tangela's existence going back almost 40,000 years ago - and Tangrowth had existed for 400,000 years. Nevermind startegic considerations, a Tangela was worth owning for it's sheer impact on the world.
keeping that in mind, Brand sends out Invarz to battle the Tangela.
