"Wha-?" Emil's eyes widen as the gloop develops a face and then... turns into him? That one's new.
"Never seen a Pokémon do this before. But I guess you must be a Pokémon, huh? Pretty sure you're not a Komala like Miz Myler's looking for, though." He leans in closer to inspect his duplicate. The face is a little unsettling, but maybe that's just something this Pokémon can't do? "You got a pretty good eye for detail, huh? Sorry about poking you."

Emil-Clone smiles at its (his?) original. There doesn't seem to be malice behind it, but with the weird, primitive-looking face, it's a bit creepy. "Ditto!" It says in response to his apology.

"Huh? You didn't poke me - oh, wait, 'course. Ditto's what you are." Emil rubs the back of his neck. He has to assume the Ditto accepts his apology, since it's smiling. "You're a pretty unusual Pokémon, huh? Never seen one change shape like you before."
He's been able to witness Pokémon evolving a few times - usually the little ones that evolve early like Caterpie and Weedle. But even then Pokémon don't usually just change shape out of nowhere like this, particularly not into him. "Can you turn into other shapes? How about... Tulip!"
He calls Tulip out, and probably confuses the poor Dwebble terribly with the fact that there are currently two of him. "What do you think? Can you turn into a Dwebble?"

Ditto briefly resumes its original form, then transforms into a Dwebble with Ditto Face.

"Aw, would you look at that!" Of course, Emil thinks Dwebble are cute anyway. To be honest, it loses something with beady Ditto eyes instead of Tulip's big, curious ones, though.
It's Tulip's turn to scrabble her way behind Emil, startled by the second Emil being replaced by another Dwebble. After a moment her eyestalks peek out from behind Emil's leg to peer at the Ditto warily.
"You're a talented little critter, aren't you? Hmm... what would you say to comin' along with me? You could see a lot more interesting things at the Guild."

Ditto resumes its traditional form again, then transforms into a thumbs up. Guess that means it's coming along!
Ditto is Genderless, level 4, Desperate, with Limber.

Emil chuckles at the thumbs up as he pulls out a Pokéball to capture the Ditto. "Great!" Seems like this Ditto's got plenty of its own personality - no worries about an identity crisis here.

Shaking off Ruby's antics as "it's Ruby, don't try to figure her out", Emil spots a strange-looking critter hanging out in the shallows. Knowing what he does about Pokemon body language, this thing is skittish. It'll likely run off if he approaches too quickly (or even openly).

Emil has an easier time reading buggy body language than a lot of people do, and he can see easily enough that this looks like a Pokémon liable to cut and run if he frightens it. So instead Emil does a trick that usually works with other skittish Pokémon...
He sits down.
The trick to making a jumpy Pokémon comfortable with you is usually to turn yourself into part of the environment. So Emil sits right down at the water's edge, crosses his legs, and waits. He watches the Pokémon carefully as he waits, not quite making contact with those wide yellow eyes. It's a curious-looking little critter, like someone took a beetle Pokémon, armored it up even more, and then flattened it out - and watery bugs like that are what he came here looking for, after all.
After a few moments, he starts humming quietly, tunelessly, just so that he doesn't startle the Pokémon if he speaks up.

The odd critter glances Emil's way when he sits down, then again when he starts humming, but it doesn't take off. Not yet at least. It inches slightly further away, but doesn't cut and run. After a bit, it starts to slowly inch closer, curiosity overtaking its fear.

Emil keeps still, watching the bug inch closer. Now that it's moving... is it just him or does that thing have a lot more legs than most bug Pokémon? More like a Venipede than most. Clearly this isn't your everyday ordinary insect.
He'd consider seeing what the Poké Tome has to say about this critter but he thinks the movement would startle it, on top of getting the book all wet. He's not sure if being a magic book would keep it from getting waterlogged. "Just what are you, little guy?" he murmurs quietly, not varying his tone much from his humming.

Slowly, ever so slowly, the strange Bug-Type draws closer to Emil. It stops just barely within touching distance.

Very slowly, Emil puts his hand on the ground between them. He isn't necessarily expecting it to crawl up onto him like Violet did, but he wants to make it easy for the water bug to touch him on its terms.
His voice is just as soft as before. "No worries, I'm not here to hurt you. I'm just lookin' for new friends. You're pretty interestin', you know?"

Wimpod carefully examines Emil's outstretched hand. Doesn't seem interested in climbing him, but it's definitely checking him out.

"There, see? I'm not gonna smack you." He considers trying to demonstrate their essential kinship by using his magic, but he's afraid the sudden change would startle the bug off. "I'd introduce you to some of my friends but they're kinda... exuberant."
Emil thinks introducing Wimpod to the rest of his team is probably something that had best wait until he captures it and it has a place it can retreat to - never mind getting it near Ruby or Freya.
"Would you like to come along with me? I can help you get stronger, so you don't have to be afraid as much. And you'll always have a safe place to go if things get overwhelming."

Wimpod eventually agrees to this. A safe place to hide is always nice, even if it's pretty quick when it needs to be.
Wimpod is level 6, Male, Mild, with Emergency Exit.
