"Believe me," the Mawile mutters, irritably, "I wish I knew, myself."
"I have no control over them," Sylvia explains to Superbia, "And they don't seem to appear here. Which I am glad for, because there's never been anything good behind them..." She shudders.
"I understand your situation, and I do not fault you for it." Hatley nods to Iga, before looking askance at Superbia. "A... game of chance? While I would not be averse to avoiding senseless fighting... what exactly do you propose?"

Superbia smiles "Normally I would say something along the lines of drawing straws or flipping a coin. However since we are......lacking in both of those things, I have an idea"
Taking a few steps between each group, Superbia reaches a hand up and plucks a hair from his head "Both groups will send someone forward to pull a hair from my head. Whoever pulls the longer hair is the group that makes it through the portal."
He smiles once more, almost a smirk "Do these terms sound agreeable to everyone?"

"No. I know not the time of mine to which you wager, and am unwilling to suffer such a loss over your hair." Iga stated firmly. "Much as I like the idea of a peaceful parting, such things are held in the hearts of soldiers of sorrow." He took six paces from Hatley and bowed deeply in respect to her and her companions.

Glancing nervously between Iga and Superbia, Lucas quickly snatches up his book from the 'ground' and clutches it to his chest as he hustles away from the now-broken circle. The demon's offer is surprisingly peaceful, but it doesn't mean anything if the rest of them don't agree to it, including Iga. Shoving his hand into his pocket and looking down, Lucas stammers, "I-I'll stay out of this. There's an even number of people, so this way we can't get stuck in a tie." Maybe it's a poor excuse for being indecisive, but he isn't wrong.

"It would be a nice change of pace to not end the battle with a blade through someone's chest - either mine or someone else's," Hatley admits. "But, I would suggest that you come to a consensus yourselves. After all, should you not, as a leader, consider the wishes of all your people? That is what you claimed, no?"
"If we're going to do chance, though," the Mawile squeaks, "we are not going to do it that way. For all we know, you've got the ability to grow your hair to whatever length you want. Why else that gamble in particular? I propose instead something fairer." He pulls out two small Pokéballs from where his book was tied. "They're identical. Believe me, I've tried to mark them, they just keep being pristine after coming back here. One of us shuffles these. One of you chooses one afterwards to see what's inside. If it's Viki," he releases a small, ursine creature with a curious look on its face as it stares up at the newcomers, "then you can go through. If it's Joshua," a slightly larger blue jackal-ish humanoid is released, "Then we go through. Or the other way around, if you're worried about cheating. I don't really care."
"Just... whatever gets this over with quickly," Sylvia says. "If we need to find another gate, I'd rather do it as soon as possible..."

"One day Lucas, you're going to have to make a stand on something, but today, I guess Iga has made the choice for you" Superbia sighed before turning towards the opposing group. With a flourish, he whips his cloak behind him as he bows before them before a frown crosses his lips "It is too bad that it had to end in such a way. I'm sure in another world, in another time, we could have parted peacefully."
Taking a few steps back, he rolls his arms and secures his bladed gauntlet onto his right hand "Alas, today is not that day"

"... I know." The words taste bitter in Lucas's mouth as the boy verbally acknowledges his weakness. Maybe if he'd said something, they wouldn't need to fight, but Superbia's already given up the peaceful approach. It's too late now. He looks up at the three strangers for a second before turning his head away with a guilty expression and mumbling, "I'm sorry."
Digging into his pockets, Lucas takes out his mask and slides it over his face. After straightening his body posture, he stares directly at Hatley with piercing golden eyes, cold and unafraid. "This is our answer."

"..." Iga cocked his head as though considering, then approached the Mawile and held his hands out and open for the Pokeballs. "If it takes time to reform, the victor remains waiting for the remainder of their entourage, or carries on weakened.". He explains. "I will shuffle them, and Sylvia will pick. While I will not trust the hair of a demon, I will trust and honor the decisions of the Kami. Let us begin."

The Mawile recalls its Pokémon and takes a step back as Superbia makes his declaration. "So, I see how it is. When it comes to a gamble you cannot fix, you are unwilling. I suspected as much. Skill will be the showing here."
"Do not be sorry." Hatley says, shaking her head. "It is the nature of this place. We do what we must, even if-" she stops, cocking her head at Iga. "I am sorry, but I do not understand. The others proposed a peaceful solution, and you wished to fight. Now that they wish to fight, you prefer a gamble instead. You are a peculiar person. I should tell you, though... having died enough myself, should your companions triumph, you will be returned to them unharmed."
"They just basically flat-out admitted that they were trying to cheat before," the Mawile squeaks, "Why are you helping th-" "Be quiet, Dyson." Hatley interrupts the Pokémon. "The only actions that should affect the standards to which you hold yourself are yours. Just because situations pit you against someone does not mean that you may not find them as a brother or sister in arms one day."
"And just because you hold yourself to rules doesn't mean that you should be restrained by them when the others clearly are ignoring them!"
Sylvia just seems to look nervously between the five other figures in the area, as if waiting to see what breaks down first.

"Thank you Hatley, for clarifying. I am truly against both courses of action, but given the choice of pulling hairs or choosing one of two." Iga explained slowly. "I feel there is less deception in the odds this way. More to consider with hair. Were one of you to shuffle Dyson's Pokemon while knowing which would bring success, and were unguarded, a skilled eye could intuit which ball." His brow furrowed and he seemed to sag a little in place. "May we call this an opportunity to grow stronger through combat? It might set my heart at ease."

Superbia looked deep in thought for a moment before loudly exhaling "I am completely lost right now Iga. Are you for or against combat right now? Because you have changed your opinion so many times in the last minute that I'm not sure where we're at anymore."
"In the future we should just avoid other groups if we see them, ignore a repeat of this whole mess"
He turned to the little pokemon trainer and pointed a clawed finger "Also listen you, I wasn't going to 'fix' anything. Just because I am a Demon doesn't mean I am not honorable and it would do you well to remember it! I was just going off of what my group would prefer instead of being a tyrant and making them follow my will. I don't enjoy being called a liar and a cheat by a little gremlin that never even had the manners to bother to introduce itself!" Superbias breathing had grown heavy and he was staring angrily at the Pokemon

"I'm taken with neither decision!" Iga bit back at Superbia. "I have never shed blood for personal gain, nor been in a position so unjustly compromised!" It was the first time he had been given to passion, and temper, in many years. "If it must come to blows... I would at least prefer be civil about it. To battle then...."

"Very well. Let us begin." Hatley takes several steps backwards, raising her sword in salute, before taking up a combat stance. The very 'ground' beneath the assembled combatants seems to almost tremble in anticipation. MapReposition yourselves anywhere within 3m of the right edge of the map, and release your Pokémon anywhere within your throwing range. Please remember to state initiatives.

With a tinge of annoyance, Lucas simply stares at the other two through his mask before tensing up for the skirmish. The win and lose conditions are pretty simple, as long as he keeps his mind off the end results. They just need to focus on attacking the other group and ignoring the pokemon they bring out. That's all. Of course he knows it goes against the established rules of pokemon battles, but those aren't upheld here, as far as he's aware. And he's sure the other group will try to do it to get ahead, except maybe for Hatley, so in reality, they have to do it too, just to stay on an even playing field. There isn't a choice there to begin with. The real question is, does he risk choosing to test the waters or go in guns blazing? In the end, Lucas decides to take a chance to hopefully debilitate the other group's pokemon to slow them down, and thus flings into the center of the field the only pokeball he had yet to throw into battle. The cute little green plant that emerges looks a little bewildered by the unfamiliar purple scenery, but it snaps to attention when Lucas shouts out, "Don't let anyone get by you!"Lucas sends out Petilil at M10. Superbia sighed as everything fell into place for the fight. It always tended to happen like this. People claimed to want to resolve things peacefully but war always won out in the end. This is why he continues to hone his fighting, why he won't let his strength falter. Throwing one of the metal apples forward, he calmly calls out " Alright it's time to rise from the ground Hellhound, rip them to shreds and leave no trace." The Rockruff stood steady and stares ahead, her blue eyes staring the girl in front of her down. Superbia prepares to rush forward into battle after her. Hellhound Init is 13
Superbia is 5

"Okuro, we observe from the shadows." Iga released the tiger striped canine from his ball, flanking Hellhound, then with several gestures, and a large burst of smoke, four men stood where one once did.
(At 15, Iga releases Growlithe and uses Double Team. Growlithe will be delaying till enemy Pokemon hit the field.)

As the other side takes their positions, the gremlin hops down from its place in Sylvia's arms, taking a protective stance in front of her. The bear Pokémon makes a reappearance in the middle, seemingly a little irate at the constant in-and-out that's been going on with it. And in front of Hatley, a small, frail looking humanoid gets released, looking over the battlefield.

Attempting to comply with her instructions, the Petilil waddles forward a little, then sprays a cloud of spores from her head towards the bear cub to make it fall asleep. Although the move appears to work, Lucas stays back for now to keep watch without compromising himself. Petilil: - Shift Action: Move to K10 - Standard Action: Sleep Powder on Teddiursa * Accuracy Roll: 18 vs AC 6 * Teddiursa falls asleep upon hit
Lucas passes the rest of his turn.

"Bare your carnage on the gem-eyed creature, my Okami." Iga called, and dropped into a crouch, preparing to join the fray with due haste. There was much to be done here. The Growlithe let out a feral roar, spewing fire and vitriol at the Sableye. Intimidate on Sableye, it loses 1 Attack CS. LHM3DzPA1d20 2d6+28 Fire Special 1d20·2d6+28

The spores indeed make the bear sleepy, with it soon curling up on the ground making cute snoring noises. Iga takes his moment to focus, with more of himself seeming to appear, which seems to make some of those on the other side hesitate. Sylvia gets over that, though, moving up to shake the bear awake. The ursine makes a giant yawn, as it begins to look around again. "That plant," the Mawile says to the bear, "Munch on that before it can put you to sleep again."Petilil hits with Sleep Powder. Iga uses Double Team. Sylvia wakes up Teddiursa. Dave tags Petilil and uses Focused Training on Teddiursa.
