Barry thinks for a minute and says, “You mean like that there cartoon with Boku or whatever his name is? I mean, I can try, but that’s just fantasy stuff right? Although turnin into lightning should be too.” Barry concentrated on his hands and focuses really hard on making something come out of it. After less than a few seconds, he gives up and says, Nope, I didn’t think so. Still just a regular farm boy. Strange thing he mentioned rocks though. I wish he’d a said which one.” Barry fishes into his shirt pocket for the two stones he kept together. “If I were a bettin man, I’d think he’d mean the bigger one. This ere smaller one is just a chip off a big stone Pokémon that looked like a moon. I kept it as a sentimental thing ya know? This other one was lyin close to it. Still not too sure what it is. Maybe that there shaman fella knows something I don’t. Probably shoulda gave it to him. I want to hold on to it though. Feels right being with me.”

Shrugging, "Well lets just try to avoid him and head on out before it gets to late" John said, "I'd like to see what we can find on the road to Mercury City."
And with that, John turned and began heading out of the Pokemon Center and out of town.

Keno raised an eyebrow at the trade machine, or at least what passed for one, leaning into Tori, "might have better luck in Mercury City, more foot traffic and all. That thing looks... past it's prime."

Barry's conversation was mildly interesting, and Tori definitely couldn't pretend the encounter with the weird lightning dude hadn't happened. She was also preening a little despite herself thanks to the farmboy complimenting her quick thinking. "Hey, don't ever let nobody make you give up something that's really yours. Finders keepers is my rule, and I - well, I mean I'm definitely a hoarder. That greasy punk shows his face again, I don't care if he can turn into lightning or whatever, I bet a kick to the family jewels'd still hurt." Truth was she'd considered trying to nick Barry's big rock herself the moment he showed it off, but he did seem pretty attached to it. Plus if they were going to be buddying up for a while it'd be pretty suspicious if it suddenly disappeared anyways. And she already had her own shiny rock... "I can understand stuff having sentimental value, at least," she murmured under her breath, for a second gripping the shoulder strap of her ratty old backpack tight enough that her partly-gloved knuckles went white.
Feeling suddenly self-conscious, she turned towards the weird machine as Keno aired his doubts. Tori always had to make do with second or even third-hand stuff, and getting any use out of perfectly serviceable "broken" things people had thrown away (or sometimes, she assumed they were going to throw away). But in this case she wasn't sure it was a good idea to trust a Pokemon to that machine. Then again, the nurse hadn't tried to discourage her from using it... it did still look like it had power. Who was she of all people to judge something for looking worn down? Taking the pink dog's Pokeball, she put it on one of the trays and studied the machine for any sort of obvious "do the thing" button. "You got any experience with one a' these suckers then, Keeno? No harm in trying, right?"

"That thing looks like it's from the days of equlivalant exchange, two trainers, swap data and you're done." Keno was guessing, but if it was some sort of storage, it ran the risk of deleting any new information as an error in the code. As much has he was overloaded with water typed Pokemon, that cute little Squirtle didn't deserve that.
"Have a go at it if you like, but make quick work of it; then we are off."

John, as you leave the center, there is a concrete path that leads south toward a wall of trees, dead and bare from autumn. The woods are dead silent, save for a few sounds of creaking branches in the wind and snow.
Tori, the machine scans your pokeball and changes its screen. It shows your trainer ID number, the pokemon caught, and the ball's code. The words, "Awaiting other trainer..." flashes on the other side.

John walks to the "wall of trees and pokes around while waiting for the rest of the party to join him on his adventure."

John, while looking between the trees and thick brush, you see a shallow creek that's flowing towards the river. You also find a old sign that points east. It has a tarnished image of a person with a backpack and walking stick, indicating the head of a hiking trail.

'that's... one janky machine,' and there was no time to waste with it, not when his lifes adventure was waiting.
Keno tapped his wrist and pointed out side, as to indicate to Tori, 'dont be long, see you outside,' then headed out to persumably catch up to John.

Seeing the sign and stream John heads over to the stream to see if any pokemon are around.

"Ehhhhh..." None of the boys seem inclined to trade, or had shown off anything she was really interested in yet, and she didn't feel like running around town in search of someone else to coerce into it. Tori snagged back Uglypug's ball and followed on Keno's heels. "This town's super boring anyways. I'm set to ditch it." The town was small too, and it didn't take long to catch up with John scoping out what looked like an old hiking trail. "Figure that's the shortest route to our next pit stop?" While John was looking for Pokemon, Tori's priority when leaving a city and its easy bounty of meals behind was to scrounge up anything edible. Fruit was unlikely this time of year, but mushrooms and edible roots grew year-round. Survival for foraging. Forgot to account for the Skill Stunt so I'll just leave off the last die to add 6, making it 17.

John, you don't see any pokemon immediately, but you hear the "ratta-tat-tat" of something rapidly knocking against wood. It seems to be coming from further within the forest, across the creek. You also spot a sign next to a dirt path that leads to it. It says, "Wasahgee Woods Nature Sanctuary". Below the letters appears to be a wooden box that his held to the sign by nails.
Tori, you easily spot a patch of 4 tiny mushrooms and one big mushroom growing on a log next to the dirt path that leads into the forest.

Keno finds John hunched over a sign and is slightly confused. His mind wonders to old cartoons that would mess with signs and send others in the wrong direction; John heading off to fame and fortune, while the others fell into a deep chasm of spinarak... or something.
Approaching, he called out, "hey!" then catching up he continued, "Tori's just fiddling with that old ass trade device, should be catching up soon."

"Dude, I was right behind you," Tori called from where she was crouched among snow-coated bushes, brushed her dirty hands off on her pants as she stashed her spoils. "Just, uh, thought I saw something interesting over here." She walked over towards John. "Maybe Johnny's had better luck?" She was kind of miffed he'd noticed the box he was inspecting first. Probably it was like... for donations, or something?
Or maybe it was just one of those signs encouraging people to bag their Pokemon poop while walking them.

Barry looked around for a minute after no one except Tori seemed interested in the stones. He just figured he’d talk with her later about them. After pocketing the stones, he just casually followed the group out of town. Barry stayed back from the group as a whole just taking in the sights. He noticed Tori looking around the same areas he was searching. Barry waited until she was done searching and then took a look for himself to see if she missed anything.

John, you look inside the box and find a bundle of tri-folded pieces of paper. You can see the one in front is labeled with the same name as the sign. Below it, there is a picture of a bird pokemon perched on a branch of a lush green tree and a QR code printed along with some instructions, saying, "Scan the code to download a local map on your phone!" (the map has been posted on the discord page.) The pokemon on the picture had black and white feathers with a crown of red.
Barry, you spot some dried wild grapes on a vine that seemed to have died before the frost. There's a total of 6 grapes hanging off the vine.

After scanning the QR code John takes a look at the map. "Hmmm, looks like there are some ruins on the way to mercury city, mind if we check em out, I'd love to find a pokemon, maybe even one of those." John states as he points at the picture. Not really waiting for a reply john heads across the creek and into the woods looking intently for any signs of pokemon.

Following in toe, Keno scanned the map source, that was vital information, and now he had it too. The map didn't detail the native pokemon in the area, save the presumption that the colorful bird would likely be found here, but at least he had a clear path to Mercury City. "The ruins just scream kook in a bird suit, but I'm game, I'm not afraid of some have rate, big bird wannabe."
Keno though Gypsy might care to take in some of the outdoors, while not putting rodents in their place, and soon she emerged from her housing. The weather was still rather nippy, rather than let her walked exposed, Keno cradled her to share his body heat, leaving the option open to snuggle into his coat. Resting comfortable, Gypsy began to sputter small bursts of water, watching it turn to mist in the chilly air.

Barry takes a little baggie out of his pack and puts the grapes in it. He then walks over to Tori and offers them to her. “Happened to see you looking in the same places I would look out here. You know your way around the land out here. We have some time while traveling, tell me about yourself. I’d love to hear how you became so skilled. I thought I was the only plant nut in our group.”
