TLDR Intro: PAY ATTENTION!
For 95% of the world, life is stupidly boring. They don't know it, they don't know that they don't know it, but you sure as hell know it. Why? Because you see that little bit of the world that the 5% of the world totally doesn't. The obnoxious amount of spiritual creatures that you see under every sewer drain, in every uber driver's passenger seat, and flipping you the bird high in the sky, which is only more insulting because it totally is a bird. Throughout history, people like you have been well aware of these creatures. Cultures have called you mediums, witch doctors, onmyouji, and more often than not, really insensitive insults, and while your pageantry of supernatural superfriends has fallen hard out of the mainstream thanks to stupid things like, science, These spiritual creatures still plague the world, and you're still the only group of people that have any means of dealing with them. Sucks to be you.You can call yourself whatever you want. Maybe you're a part of a still prominent onmyoji society, maybe your mom's a fake psychic, and you have to speak to the spirits FOR her, or maybe you're a runner in an underground exorcist society. You can call it whatever you want, but you all do the same thing; see spirits, communicate with them, and sometimes stop them from messing with things, or just straight up control them with your spirit powers and stuff. It's no easy task, and you all may have different motivations as to WHY you even bother with these creatures, but it's your task to complete, and it's up to you to juggle spirit hunting, and surviving the harrowing garbage fire that is San Francisco, without freaking out the people around you too much with your invisible fighting.
Quick Assessment of me and this campaign
Ok, so I really didn't think I was going to run another campaign ever again, but after playing in a few more, taking notes on things that do and do not work, I've got a better idea on how to run one of these things well. Here's what I DON'T want this to be
- A campaign that takes a year to complete one day. I've been in that. It's horrible. No one likes it. Don't even pretend you do
- Something stupidly stressful for me or the players
- A game with strict rules and serious consequences for not following them
- A game where the players never level up. Like, EVER
What I would like is literally the opposite of all that. I've been a part of the PTU community for an awkwardly long time now, and I know way more of you than I probably should, so I want to take all the notes I've gotten from your games to make something super happy fun time levels of . . . fun . . . shit I said fun already didn't I? Whatever.
Important details below.
- I will be accepting 3-4 players . . . which I guess means 4 because the characters are always to awesome to go with the minimal amount.
- You have until 12 PM Pacific Central time on 3/14/2018 to submit a character.
- You may submit UP TO 3 characters for consideration.
- You MUST be in the Discord Group to even be considered. No debate on that.
- No BotD starting out. I might add it later, likely won't, but let's just get that out of your headset right now.
- You can only maintain a certain number of spirits (pokemon) in this campaign equal to either your command, occult ed, or pokemon ed. So if the highest of them is 4, then you can only have up to 4 spirits at any time. Food for thought. Before you start freaking out about not having a full arsenal at your disposal, ask yourself this. When you had like, 9-12 pokemon in your control in other campaigns, when did you ever use something outside your 3-4 core favorites?

Things that will make it more likely for you to get in
Here's a list of things you can do to improve your odds of getting in.
- Be unique. Well, make your characters unique, you can be as bland as you want. I want a team with variety. I don't want 4 edgy teens with shy personalities waiting for another character to drag them out of their shell, I want contrasting personalities, a range of personal experience and social class levels, different fighting styles, etc etc. If you see 4 guys submitting edgy 17 year old shade callers, it would behoove you to consider something that contrasts that, like a peppy cheerleader to brighten their day. That's why I'm allowing 3 submissions, so that you can try and make something that you haven't seen yet, and still do something cliche if you so wish.
- Post in Discord. ESPECIALLY IF I DON'T KNOW YOU. I know alot of you, but there's still plenty of people I've never gotten to see that much of, so I need to get a vibe of your personality and post frequency through Discord.
- Personality over mechanics. Bruh, if I wanted to play a game for its mechanical gameplay, I'd just play a video game. I can run a fight perfectly well here, but if you submit to me your STUPIDLY OP 1040K DOMAGE SKITTY BUILD XDXD with a character that barely has two sentences of backstory, I'm not going to put you that high on the priority list. We will definitely have our fair share of fun fights, but RP is the most important part of this game, and I need to see that you can tell a good story, and make interesting character dialogue.
- Post your timezone and availability. Ya it's play by post, but if I can find a group that can occasionally get together once in a while and do a big fight, it would make the game progress SO MUCH BETTER. And I've seen this work with people all around the world. I think the last ptu fight for a pbp match we did had people from the US, Germany, Brazil, and I wanna say Sweden, but I think Sweden is just a made up place Blizzard came up with, so IDK. Don't be too worried if you live in a timezone that you think might conflict. We'll make it work.
- Don't make an anti social character that will actively refuse to participate in game. Like, anti social characters and moody characters ARE AWESOME, FINE, AND TOTALLY LOVED, but I won't let you in if your character is going to force the other players to work extra hard to get you to participate. I've played with them before, it's horrible. It's annoying. Your character doesn't have to like the others, but you then have to find a motivation that makes them work with others. Maybe they're paid to associate with people they hate. Maybe an evil organization has something you value, and you reluctantly need these other guys to get it back. Maybe one of the character literally owns you. IDK, but we don't want to sit around trying to get you to socialize in a social game.
- Be a Danganronpa fan. This isn't that vital, but we just click better, and DR fans tend to make STUPIDLY AWESOME CHARACTERS. This only helps increase your odds by like, 1%, but hey, that's 1 whole percent.

THE WORLD!!
As mentioned before, the world is heavily inhabited by spirits, and you are all something called a Seeker. Seekers have been called a number of things by different cultures, but you all generally perform the same function, communicate and deal with spirits. In this world, spirits aren't deceased humans, or tortured souls, they're like, their own race of existence. If it makes them easier, just consider them yokai, but they aren't yokai, because I don't know shit about yokai.
To the normal world, everything functions like it normally does in a modern day city. For seekers, it's like an unending stream of nonsense, shenanigans, and really mean looking spirits picking a fight with you, which is all the more annoying when you have to act like none of that is happening when in front of people. It's like the rest of the world sees things in black and white, and you see it in a closed fist kaleidoscope of colors rearing far too close to comfort to your teeth.
Though you are all Seekers, you may be from different organizations. There's plenty of Seeker groups, with their own philosophies on spirits, and what they should do with them. Some believe that Spirits are all evil and mindless, and it's the Seeker's responsibility to maintain control over them. Some believe that Spirits are gentle, and should be nurtured and loved. Some believe that spirits can level skyscrapers with a thought, and should be weaponized. There's a LOT of organizations that I will broadly describe later, but feel free to make your own up and run it by me. There's groups that have members all over the world, and some that barely fill a small bathroom. It's all possible.
As Seekers, you've all had exposure to spiritual energy, which means you may or may not be able to harness some sort of supernatural power. Now, people can't quite see spirits, but they sure as hell can see a human with superpowers, and it is NOT OKAY TO REVEAL YOUR POWERS IN PUBLIC. In days when supernatural aspects were more well known, the supers were treated like social pariah, and often hunted down, while the rest of society freaked out over the invisible threat of spirits that they had literally no control over. It's easier for everyone to act like you just don't exist.
Your individual experience as a Seeker is up to you. You can have been born into a family of seekers and been trained all your life, or perhaps these are all new powers that just randomly appeared in you last week, but either way, you've gotten enough exposure to the supernatural to have known the basics by now. You all live in San Francisco, though there are spirits all around the world. I just know San Francisco better than other places, so we're playing there.
Canon Seeker Organizations
These will be canon in the world, but you are no obligation to be a part of them. You can make up your own, or not even associated with an organization. Also, though many of these groups have roots in other cultures, you're in San Francisco, and every organization accepts members of all races, nationalities, etc etc. Don't feel like you got to be a european to be in a european club
Warlock
This group has a prominent history in American culture, though mostly because of those witch hunts in Salem. It was . . . really tense then. They've gotten far more control over the years, and after generations of trial and error, they learned the best way to study their stuff, train others, and live comfortably with the rest of society without being burned at the stake. They're a very large organization, the largest in the US, and monitor/reimburse their seekers so that they can live comfortable lives. The organization is pretty indifferent to spirits. They don't think that spirits are good or bad, just creatures with powerful capabilities. Warlock wants to keep the balance between humans and spirits, but have generally despised non Seekers . . . passionately. Not to the point of using their powers to harm any normal humans, but there's still some disdain there. As Warlock is the largest spiritual organization in the US, they also serve as one of the major judiciary powers in the Seeker community. They hunt down problematic seekers, and prosecute them in association with the Onmyodo. Most Warlock members wear business casual to just straight up whatever they want. They're a fairly lax organization
Onmyodo
The Onmyodo was once a form of cosmology, but now serves as the title for the organization of onymoji that have served Japan for generations. They originally served as protectors of Japan, and recognized civil servants, but have opted to serve as less official protectors of the world, and have opened offices all across it to better defend it with their preferred ideologies. Similarly to the Warlocks, Onmyodo are all about balance between humans and spirits, however, they perceive themselves more as respected defenders as opposed to Warlock, who see themselves more has scrutinized heroes in the dark. The Onmyodo fear spirits more than humans, but make sure to respect civil spirits, and never force a civil spirit into a partnership against its own will. Like Warlock, they sometimes work as a judiciary branch in the Seeker community, and maintain order in the Seeker community. They wear business professional wear exclusively
Kingsmen
The Kingsmen were started in Europe, and once served the Queen exclusively, but as defenders to the crown, they've eventually managed to push their way into the spiritual realm, and learn to weaponize it. Their number one priority is the protection of the crown, and those that serve it. The rest of humanity, and all of the spirits are insignificant. Does a spirit not want to serve under a kingsmen? Tough. It's happening. To be a kingsmen in San Francisco, you must be protecting someone of to the crown that lives in San Fancisco. Perhaps a distant cousin is studying abroad, or maybe you work with the British embassy program as the supernatural guard. While they're heavily encouraged to wear high priced suits since they represent the crown, it's more important that a Kingsmen be able to blend in with a crowd, so they will often be wearing average street clothes.
Hoods
Inspired by the tale of red riding hood, this group of rebels have each found themselves somehow involved in the supernatural, and asked themselves the important questions, like, "how can this newfound power get me cash?". Amongst the spiritual communities, the Hoods are a more revered community, who use their powers and spiritual companions to get what they want, whenever they want, but most importantly, share their spoils with other members, because it's all about community. Some perceive themselves to be modern robin hoods, and some just want the newest iphone before everyone else, but whatever their motivations, the important thing is that they're all supernatural criminals. Just have fun convicting them of anything.
The Clergy
The Clergy are all about maintaining a positive relationship with the spirits. They have a strong heritage in Ireland, but have long since expanded their reach around the globe. In their eyes, Spirits were here first, and humans are the dicks that have been invading their world. Clergy members strive to heal and protect spirits, and any ground they deem to be sacred. They have some of the best relationships with Spirits, rivaled only by the Onmyodo.
Red Guard
The Red Guard are no strangers to the serious dangers of Spirits. This organization serves as a militant resistance to all spirits, making sure to keep their powers and numbers in check. The Red Guard have been on the watch list of many other organizations, simply because they're less concerned about maintaining their anonymity, and whenever a youtube video surfaces showing a woman conjuring flames out of nowhere, it's usually the Red Guard's fault. The Red Guard believe that Seekers shouldn't be anonymous anymore, and instead should be known as the defenders of humanity they perceive themselves to be. As such, this organization is monitored heavily by Warlock and Onmyodo.

Character Creation
Your character can be any age between 9-40.
Your character will be level 12
You get 8000 moneys to start with, and may by crude weapons at 500, 3000 for Simple, and for anything higher than that, consult me
You also get a level 30 Non-Psuedo Spirit to be your starting companion. You may have 1 egg or tutor move, that you would have gotten pre-20 so DB 7 restrictions.
Your spirit has a personality and mind. They have their own opinions about everything, including you, so be sure to make that part clear somewhere in your submission. Skill backgrounds would be preferred, but aren't necessary.
Please make backstories 1-2 pages minimum, but no more than 6. I will make exceptions if YOU REALLY NEED MORE THAN 6 PAGES, but I better like you already, and if not, you better make me like you. On the upside, I like just about everybody, so you're in luck here. Remember, backstory and personality are the most important aspects of your character, don't skimp on them.

Submitting Characters
As mentioned before, you must join the Discord chat here. We won't be using Skype. Death to Skype. When submitting, I'd appreciate you answering these questions to help me in the decision making process
1. What time zone do you live in?
2. Would you be willing to try and meet up with the rest of the group occasionally to do complicated battles in person?
3. What is your post frequency like?
4. Have you done other PBP campaigns before?
5. Are there any other people applying that you would like to play with? If you are new to the community, don't be discouraged. We all start somewhere.
