"It'll be dark soon, and they've probably already spotted us Christine. May as well walk in like we own the place. I'll keep an eye on the caves as we head down so we're not flanked. Course... we don't have to honor the old shroom's request. Could just move on and leave this place as is." He gave a pointed glance back to Joyce and Bunnie who were quietly and blessedly remaining at the back. "It's someone else's hardship, you in or out Christine, I'll roll with it."
Cecil started after Kat.

"Of course I'll come..." she says, after a moment's hesitation. "There's no one else who'll patch you up, after all. So, if you all are going in... guess I am, too."

As the group moves down the ramp, they're able to see that quite a few levels of this place have been hollowed out, splitting off into small tunnels. Some look more rough and natural than others which still retain a roughly rectangular shape. There's also scaffolding and even ancient plastic sheets that have managed to survive the ravages of time; though any wood has long since rotted away. There's a point though where the group has to either pass through a relatively narrow corridor cut into the rock, or attempt to clamber over a large pile of scree that accumulated at one of the turns of the ramp.
There's a ledge running along the corridor with some scaffolding and plastic sheeting lining it. There's also some ancient stacks of debris that had never had the chance to get hauled away.

As they descend downward, Christine appreciates that those that live here - or at least those that originally carved it out - seem to appreciate the safety of dwelling beneath the earth. She is a little uneasy, though, that there's so far no sign of people, at least that she can see. On the other hand, in the likely event that there are those living here, perhaps they just haven't noticed them yet. "What do you think?" Christine asks softly, as the group reaches the choice. "If we've been spotted, maybe best not to get in such tight quarters... we could probably be trapped pretty easily. But, if we haven't, those rocks look rather noisy. I'm leaning towards the pass. If we'd been spotted, something would have happened already, I'm sure." Perception: 11

"I much prefer the quieter approach myself, but that said, the rocks still might be safer." Cecil considered it for a long moment with his arms folded across his chest. Truthfully, neither felt like a good option, but much of this adventure had been the lesser of two evils. They didn't need to be here, or be dealing with any of this. Still, something this close to home could be an issue later if they leave it.

Kat rubs her chin, glancing back and forth between the passageway and the rockpile. "I ain't a fan of the close quarters, personally, so I'd take a chance with the rockpile, myself. Just... lemme get a good look first. If there's anythin' obviously a trap, I should be able ta see it."
She moves to a surer grip on the sledgehammer and takes some time studying both options with a careful eye.

Amber frowns at the rocks and glance at Topaz, realizing her mistake but deciding she's too stubborn to fix it unless it comes up. She glances at the tunnels.
"I don't think us being too grouped up is a good idea either. What if a tunnel collapses? Can... Can pokemon do that sort of thing?" She turns to Kat for confirmation.
The rockpile looks better, maybe climbable to get a good view? She considers.

As the group looks around, they feel the hair on the back of their necks slowly begin to lift. Christine notices a few of the plastic sheets overlooking the tunnel are moving counter to the wind, ever so slightly. Kat can tell that this pile of scree isn't old at all, it looks like it's had maybe a few days to settle and there are some spots that look like good handholds or good places to set your feet that are cunningly set up to turn under pressure, rolling or even breaking the wrist/ankle of the limb that they'd been supposed to support. Bunny is simply holding herself tightly, staying in the middle of the group as best she can.
But it's what Amber and Cecil see that's the most disturbing. There's a flash of greasy hair behind one of the haphazardly stacked piles of rock, ragged boots showing under a tarp that doesn't fall all the way to the ground. And Amber picks up a woman's voice, incredibly faintly, murmuring something in impatient tones.

"Let's find out." Cecil replies to Amber before Kat can, Slick's pokeball coming free of his bandolier in a smooth motion. He releases the nearly four feet of fish near the mass of scaffolding with a snap of his wrist. "Magnitude."J4bDQnlB1d201d6 2d8+35
When the brief chaos settled, Cecil raised his voice so it carried. "Ain't good to spook strangers. Probably shouldn't be skulking in an ambush point."

Well... there goes the impression not being spotted. But, they'd at least not attacked yet, so maybe that was.... something? Just to be on the safe side, though, she takes a step back and releases Coiffe, the bird fluttering into the air. There's a general sense of unease in the air, and, almost without thought, she taps into the well of power within her. She'll make sure they all come out alive. Although... it seems like Cecil's trying to bring the whole place down on top of them, so... that's concerning. Coiffe just hovers restlessly in the air above her, flapping with growing energy, waiting for a signal. Christine (initiative 17) releases Fletchinder and uses Light Screen. Fletchinder (initiative 20, now 28) uses Agility.

Amber tenses, gaping at Cecil's very explosive opening move, and barely resists smacking her forehead. "That's one way to do it," She mutters and sighs. "Topaz, get ready!"
Topaz moves on 22, 26 after orders. Amber moves on 17.
Topaz will bounce off her shoulder as a shift and stand in front of her. Nasty Plot as his standard. No Swift.
Amber gives orders to Topaz--Focused and Agility as a Standard. Her swift triggers battle conductor to spread Focused to two additional allies: Fletchinder and Slick. Her shift is to Splash for +1 Evasion.
Positions Marked.

Kat is caught off guard by Cecil's sudden release-and-magnitude, stumbling backwards to stay clear. She gives him a sharp look, only to see that Amber seems to be convinced that there's someone there too, so instead moves into a combat stance, glancing around as the dust settles.
Demon swoops to her shoulder, and the two of them both try to figure out what exactly is going on...

There's a shout of surprise and pain as the unexpected attack goes off, causing parts of the scree pile to shift and collapse. More concerning however is that one of the sets of scaffolding fell, revealing a man in rough clothing, topped off with a crimson jacket. Next to him is a humanoid-shaped pokemon with dark brown skin, a long nose poking out of shaggy white fur covering its head and going off its back, and a hands seemingly made of leaves. The man is stumbling and cursing furiously. "Damnit Kat, you were supposed to keep em distracted!" From behind the other hiding places emerge other people, five in all counting the first man, and all wearing similar red vests or other clothing, though not as high quality as the vest that the cursing man wore. A woman in what could be charitably described as a very drafty outfit steps out from another hiding spot, licking her lips even as a crazed light fluttered behind hooded eyes. "Oh c'mon now Josco, this just makes it more fun. Liddle kitty kat there must have forgotten who she's loyal to. So we're just going to have to remind her." With a flick of her wrist, she tosses out a pokeball, as do the other raiders! Coiffe - 28 Cecil - 23 Topaz - 22 Shiftry - 21 Alolan Meowth - 18 Christine - 17 Amber - 17 Raider Leader - 15 Mightyena - 15 Brionne - 11 Raiders - 10 Kat - 8 Alolan Sandshrew - 7 Demon - 7 Slick - 6

"What... Kat? What are they talking about?" Christine looks back and forth between the new arrivals and the surface girl, an uncertain look on her face. What's going on? Apparently Kat'd known these people were here, and was supposed to distract the group? She feels concern shooting through her, mitigated only by the fact that the ruffians did not seem pleased with the results. But now is not the time to panic. Focus. While Kat might be dangerous, might be planning to hurt them... these people in front of them surely are. And she has to protect the others. The knowledge that she'd gained in the Vault helps; she knows to keep her bird away from that aquatic-looking creature, for instance. "Coiffe, get to the other side of that rodent, light it up. Help Slick." At her command, Coiffe swiftly arcs over top of the area where Cecil's Pokémon shook things up, coming down on the other side, before unleashing a blast of fire at point-blank range. If they take out the Pokémon, then maybe, hopefully, it will cause the ambushers to pause. And nobody needs to be hurt. Especially not her companions. Concentrating on that thought, she sends out a wave of energy to help keep them safe. Fletchinder uses Accelerate, using Ember on Sandshrew, spending an AP. 4 (because I forgot Amber's Focused Orders) vs AC 2 (plus -2 to evasion for Flanking), for 51 Special Fire damage (at Priority, not that it really matters. Although it does stop people from intercepting).
On her turn, Christine uses Safeguard.

Cecil's attention slid to Kat and hung there. Mentally, he was picking apart the events in town, and what he knew of his friend. She'd been taken by raiders when she was very young, and managed to get away. The Blue Sage had asked they come here, not her. "Guessing this is that raider band that 'adopted' her." Cecil swept Slick up in a beam of light and plunked Chassis down in front of him even as he advanced. He hefted the shield that he'd become so attached to, and entered the fray. He aimed for the strange grass-pelted creature's pointy nose, not wanting to get too into the thick of things, Chassis volleying needles from it's tail into the 'mon as well. (Cecil uses Quick Switch for 1 AP, swapping Slick for Chassis. Advancing, he uses BASH! on the Shiftry. With the +10 Initiative from Quick Switch, Chassis fires Pin Missile at 15) x2t3M2Nc1d20 Bash! Amber goes very still, glancing between the clear enemies--and Kat, who is a little less clear. She licks her lips, hesitates.
"Topaz--let's..." She waivers--but no, there's at least one group who are clearly enemies. She can just...keep an eye on Kat. She shifts to be able to watch her. "Let's light things up!" ____________________________________

Kat freezes, very nearly dropping her hammer as she catches sight of Josco and something funny happens in her chest-- a mix of confusion and terror and longing and concern that has her immobile with ears ringing and brain trying to make sense of what the fuck is going on??
"I..." she starts, trying to find words. Josco looks angry, and that was never a good thing, she never wanted to make him mad because that could only mean hell was in store... but Cecil's and then Amber's voices drag her back to the present, and she glances at them each in turn, horror growing.
What could they think of her? Fear grips her heart with a cold hand, because she's not ready to lose them. Not after these last few weeks.
"D-don't-- don't touch them," she begs Josco, but the look on his face makes her feel small and she wants to hide. The hammer in her grip feels too heavy. She diverts her eyes to the woman who had called her by that old pet-name, and some of her faculties came back. There was someone she could build her anger on. "Don't you dare touch them."
Demon screeches a war-cry, swooping at the woman with vicious fangs bared.

Coiffe's leading move is an explosive one, a stream of embers that hits the odd little shrew and causes it to shriek in pain, part of its shell running as the apparent ice that makes it up melts, before it passes out. Cecil’s own actions quickly grab attention as he get up close and personal with the strange grass-type, smashing it in the face and eliciting a shriek of fury. Even as Cecil’s strike finishes though, one of the raiders lets out his own yell of pain as Topaz slams several thin streaks of electrical energy through the man. “Oi! You’re not makin’ this any easier girly!” the woman called tauntingly. The grass-type that was currently dealing with Cecil in its personal space let out a shiver as it spread it’s fan-like “fingers” wide. A green glow lights up the outspread “hand”, turning it into a single semi-circular blade as the raider leader smirked. “Leaf blade on that greasy git, give em a nice close shave!” The mon zipped forward, coming to rest in front of Topaz and Amber with double “clack” of its wooden legs on stone. Its eyes were closed, a small smile on its face as the shimmer faded. “Shif,” it grunted, before blinking in surprise. Pivoting on one leg to look back... a single errant hair from Cecil’s head is all that fell to the ground. The woman chortles at this. “Guess your little houseplant just can’t cut it anymore Josco. Don’t worry, once Ms Kitty deals with that bird I’ll take the guy in hand,” she licks her lips as she stares at Cecil with a deranged light in her eyes. It twists into a snarl of fury as she points at Coiffe. “Ms. Kitty, bring that bad bird down! The cat obeys with alacrity, jumping over and then kicking off of one of the blocks in order to get within range of the bird, and attempting to claw at it. Alas, even with it’s jumping capabilities it fails to come within range of striking down the bird, coming down to the ground with a yowl of frustration. Christine gatheres up a protective field of energy about her, spreading out amongst the others and their mon, letting it sink into them to be called on as needed. Amber meanwhile, with her gaze turned towards where the plant-type had just failed to inflict grievous harm against Cecil, sees Josco, the apparent leader of the group glaring in frustration at Kat, rolling a small pendant around between his thumb and forefinger. A small pendant that looks identical to the “Destiny Knot” that Cecil had inadvertently exposed everyone too within that vault of nightmares. Chassis, thanks to the impetus his release gave him, manages to turn on a dime and fire a series of wicked looking barbs point-blank into the grass-type’s back. It lets out a high-pitched scream of pain that sounds almost like an angry bird rather than a humanoid, the barbs managing to do extreme damage, but not quite enough to take it out of the fight. The leader, seeing his mon being humiliated and beaten so badly, storms forwards towards Cecil with a terrible scowl on his face, before attempting to bash the teen’s head in with a cosh. “F**king useless. Kat I should have left you for Tina to break for the flesh trade instead o’ takin’ you under me wing like I did. I’d have gotten my investment back and then some by now instead of this s**t! Where’s the loyalty?!” He manages to catch Cecil across the cheek, rattling the teen’s teeth but not managing to drop his guard any. [Cecil takes 20 points of Normal physical damage from Wear Down, no penalty to defense] “Give’m a Snarl Mightyena, teach that rat about shocking it’s betters!” yells out another raider. The wolf-like mon gallops forward, before letting loose a low rumbling snarl that actually caused the area in close to it’s mouth to emit black streaks of energy. Energy which latches onto and sinks into Topaz and Amber both, tearing at their equilibrium as it reached down into the most primal places of their minds and squeezed.[Amber and Topaz take 19 Special Dark damage, -1 CSA to Special Attack] “Soak down that ‘chu as well Brionne, we don’t want it out if we can help it!” another raider shouts, pointing at Topaz. The little seal-like creature claps its paws joyfully, before its cheeks swell and it blasts a spray of water at Topaz. [Topaz takes 30 Special Water damage] The woman, likely the “Tina” that Josco had mentioned, lets out a hiss directed at Coiffe, before turning doe-eyes on Cecil. “Don’t go anywhere hot-shot, momma will be getting to you soon enough...” She reached into her jacket and produces a brace of throwing knives, flinging one at Coiffe! The blade flashes through the air, and manages to score a deep slice along Coiffe’s breastbone, but the plucky fire-type is still in the air! [Coiffe takes 21 Normal Physical damage] Of the remaining two raiders, one scrambled down from the ledge he’d been perched on, while the other attempted to bean Chassis with a rock, apparently not having much else at hand to attack with. It pinged off of the little mon’s carapace without even a mark. The woman’s gleeful cackling at having scored a hit on Coiffe locks up as she suddenly begins to spasm slightly. This leaves her perfectly open for Demon to descend like the proverbial bat out of hell, lashing at her with wings, claws and tail. She’s certainly in a lot of pain, and her outfit has been ripped and torn by the assault, but she’s not unconcious yet. Coiffe - 28 Cecil - 23 Topaz - 22 Shiftry - 21 Alolan Meowth - 18 Christine - 17 Amber - 17 Raider Leader - 15 Mightyena - 15 Brionne - 11 Raiders - 10 Kat - 8 Demon - 7 Woman - 5 (Paralyzed) Chassis - 5 (15)

Christine nods in satisfaction as the shrew falls. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to deter the bandits. That's regrettable. She does notice, though, that the leaf-bladed Pokémon is getting rather close, tying them all up. That's something that should be dealt with quickly. "Coiffe," she calls, "circle back, get rid of the grass-type." Referring to things by 'types' is still unfamiliar to her. It's foreign knowledge, unnaturally natural. Kat had taught the basics, but she'd still not been used to it until...that Vault. Now is not the time to dwell on that, though, even with a small part of her mind. Her companions are in danger. And that means she has to act, using the power that she's been given. Fletchinder uses Quick Attack (Flying-Type due to Gale Wings) with Accelerate on Shiftry. 19 (-2 evasion from being Flanked) vs Ac 2, for 51 Physical Flying damage.
Christine uses Light Screen.

"You got a lot to learn about people if you think beatings and regular use builds that shit." Cecil lifted his weapon backwards, dropping it into it's sheath before hammering Joscoe across the face with his shield and snatching up the ringleader's weapon. "You touch that necklace again and I'll take your hands next. Dick's got a Destiny Knot girls, masks on if you got'em. Chassis, give the dog your teeth."
