Superbia looked over at the fences in the distance "Hmm you're right, they don't look to be iron or steel either, so it's not like they would do any sort of job of keeping people from climbing them with little effort. Interesting though, a chest that was enchanted with cold to keep food in it, I don't know how that's any more effective than enchanting the entire larder to just keep for longer."
However the demons eyes grew wide at the mention of the pictures "So they have someone capable of trapping people in those drawings. That must mean that a powerful mage is going around and trapping the souls of the people living around here...Do you think if we placed them in our books we could summon them out for questioning?"
He snapped his metal covered hand before turning back to Iga "The children spoke of a legend, a Faery Queen known as Titania, who would fly through the town enchanting people, before replacing one of their hatchlings with one of her own, which would eventually grow into a Faery as well and take those enchanted back with it. Maybe it turns them into those drawings first"

Ritsuko waves her hand. "Looking for someone? Oh uh...no. We just happen to be passing by, and I was just curious. S-Since I have your attention...um...Have there been any rumors floating around town? Gossip can...inspire creative stories that we like to workshop." Ritsuko smiles to fight off her uneasiness from playing along with this actor gimmick.

"I do not believe such a being would make it so easy to release their captives, but legends and folklore often have facets of truth to them. Perhaps the issue here is the presence of this Titania? Were she successful, that would explain the very thin populace for the size of this 'Rivertown.' Where did they say she took the enchanted back to? For that matter, what is a Faery?" Iga parsed quietly.

Lucas
"Not at all," a young kid replies. "If a fairy is nice to you, you should be even more scared... because they don't do anything just to be nice."
Ritsuko
"Nothing that comes to mind," the woman says, somewhat airily. "Maybe you'd have better luck finding inspiration in town."

"A Faery is a subspecies of Demon, ones who's words carry mind altering enchantments. I spent some time training under one, but I find much of what they do to be too underhanded to perform myself. Useful to have on your side though. They normally sparkle and have insectoid wings, and can alter their size between standard like ourselves and the size of a small bird. As for where they get taken...." Superbia shrugs "The kids said the middle of the forest, but in a hidden glade. Or enchanted glade at least. She seems to trap people there for all eternity. Maybe as those drawings?"

"We should find a map and use it to locate the deepest parts of the forest. It is the only clear course of action. Warriors of this level of skill would have no difficulty with the mundane. I also question our presence here being to deal with anything mundane. A being strong enough to take us from our respective realms would not put us to mundane tasks.". Iga rationalized.

"You make a good point. If they don't even need walls for safety, then only the enemy that walls would not stop anyways would still be a threat." Superbia nods along with the ideas that Iga placed in front of him.
He gestured out towards Lucas "Should we collect the other two and then head out to the forest? Or should we wait until nightfall and take them a bit more by surprise. Although I think the Fae can see in the dark. Something about being kin with the moon, if I remember my studies correct. I may have slept through that lesson..."

"Okay, we'll have to be extra careful if we see one then. Thanks for telling us about them. Now, we need to get going, since there's still a lot for us to check out before we settle tonight. You kids have fun with your game, all right?" As Lucas attempts to convince the gathered children to leave him alone, he glances behind him, surprised at how quiet Superbia had been since Lucas half-expected an interruption the entire time. The silence is quickly explained once the boy notices the demon lord is instead talking with Iga between some houses nearby and also gesturing towards him for some reason. Although nervous as to why, Lucas picks up the last purchased cup of lemonade from the girl's stand and signals his intent to continue up the road to the two men, then follows after Ritsuko.

Ritsuko nods, and waves. "Ok then. Thank you for your time then..." Ritsuko finishes off the rest of her lemonade, and sees Lucas. Perhaps he did better in finding out useful information, but considering he spent most of his time with the children...She walks up to the boy. "After talking with an adult woman over there....I found out nothing about our cryptic task...Did you learn anything? Also...where are the other two?"

Lucas is a little startled when Ritsuko directly approaches him, considering how offended she had looked earlier. "Um, maybe, sort of? The kids said their parents told them tales of a fairy queen that supposedly lives in the forest outside town, who enchants anyone who wanders close to her glade and traps them there. They also said that whenever she has a child, she replaces a human child with it, and it lives among people like a normal person. But once the queen calls her child back home, it returns to its true form, bringing those it had unknowingly enchanted as it grew up back to the glade with it." Although biting his thumb a little nervously, the boy continues his train of thought. "I don't know how much of it is true or if it's related to what the books said, but there must be something in the forest that the adults are afraid of. Rumors and stories like that aren't created for no reason." Lucas sighs worriedly as he looks down the direction they came from. "And those two were talking about something by themselves. I think they know I came this way, so they should be coming soon." After an awkward pause from him, he starts mumbling, "Sorry about what happened back there. It probably didn't look like it, but I was panicking since our cover almost got messed up. I didn't think you'd react so badly."

Iga nodded his agreement to Superbia, digesting the information provided about 'demons' and 'faeries', in some ways they sounded very much like yokai; something to be distrustful and guarded towards. Superbia himself had shown to be competent if a little overconfident and under-informed. He approached Lucas and Ritsuko. "We should make for the heart of the forest, from what Superbia has told me it is there we will find the cause of this place's problems."

Ritsuko folds her arms as she listens to the fairy tale. She should've expected kids to deliver a kid's story. She was about to snap at him for breaking "character," but the appearance of Iga stops her. Ritsuko couldn't help but balk at wanting to go into the forest. "H-Hold on a minute. You say problems, but...are there any? These children, and a woman I spoke with seem quite normal. I think a child's tale, ...whatever you and Superbia were doing, isn't really much to go on, and go trekking into the woods. Perhaps further exploration of the town is needed?"

Superbia walked up and shook his head "What makes this tale so unbelievable? We were torn from our very realities and dropped here, and yet you find Faeries doing exactly what they are want to do to be nothing but a tale?"
He shrugged "I think it might be the first thing to make sense since we got here, other than some of the stuff that Iga has told me. Did you know they have captured souls inside their homes? Just like we have in our books. There is powerful magic afoot here. I think this Titania has something to do with it"

A little worried by the demon lord's revelation, Lucas tries to make sense of it. "Captured souls... inside the houses? That doesn't seem right, the kids said Titania only traps people in the forest, and her child lures townspeople away to the forest, too. There shouldn't be a reason wh-" He suddenly pauses, having finally caught the important detail in Superbia's statement. "... Like our books? You mean, pictures of people?" The sincere concern on the boy's face transforms into a skeptical contemplation. "Monsieur Iga? What was it about the pictures that made you believe magic was involved?"

"I do not require your strange honorific, I bear no land nor title. The realism of the images could only be brought about by magic. There were no brush strokes, no scent of ink, and so detailed for something so small! It could only be the work of the sort of magic that imprisoned my Growlithe in this book." He explained quietly. "There are too few people for a town this size, it must be this Faery that was mentioned."

"... You've never seen a photo before." Lucas sighs as he closes his eyes. "It's hard to explain, but using a special machine, paper, and light, you can make pictures that look exactly like the real thing. Nothing magical about it at all. Back when they were first invented, some people really did believe that it would take their souls, though." Done debunking that, he looks at the others with a straight face. "We need to learn more about this place first, and not from kids. They said it themselves that Titania is a story from their parents, so if anything from the story is real, they'd know. We can search the forest after confirming that there's actually something going on in there. Otherwise, it's just a waste of our time."

Ritsuko moves strands of hair behind her ear. "I am familiar with fairies," she says sternly. She lets Lucas and Iga discuss pictures, and souls while she thinks of what to do. She does acknowledge Lucas's idea to investigate more. "Exactly what Lucas said. Finding more adults in town is probably the best option to pinpoint what we are looking for."

Iga considered all of this in silence, eyes drawn to the tallest building in this village with it's strange decoration. Needles pointing at characters. It was not unlike a sundial in some ways, but the angle of it was all wrong, half of the day it would cast no light. "What about that?" Iga pointed at the clocktower, having little concept of such things. "Would we find answers there? It is a strange thing."

Superbia shrugged "I'm not really keen on facing a queen of Faeries and her possible army of enchanted humans by myself. If you all want to postpone and head into the town proper first, then so be it. I'm just not sure adults are going to believe that we are nothing more than traveling minstrels, and that these are but pieces of a costume" he gestures to his horn and tail before tilting his head to the side and looking deeper into the town "But, that's a problem for the future I suppose. Come, lead the way Sir Albin, you're the most similar to the rest of the people here after all"

Approaching town, the buildings seem to turn more from dwellings into places with signs and art on their surfaces - Lucas recognizes these as shops and different services, although he doesn't really see any that match any of the ones that were back home.
Now that the group's in town, they notice more and more people around. None of them seem to take too much more than a cursory interest in the group, though - at most, perhaps a double take or two. Most simply proceed to go along with their business, though, whatever it is. Thankfully (or perhaps not), Iga sees, there doesn't seem to be much of a visible presence of any weaponry. Or angry guards.
