"Children, children, calm down now," Jack said, leaning back into his arm chair. "It was rather lucky that the Amnesia Cannon didn't work on me. You see, it only erased the memories of Pokemon to the point that they were captured, and since I had never been in a pokeball before, my memories were spared," he explained.
"As for Bolt's evolution, well, that is quite curious. There is a type of temporary evolution Pokemon can undergo, known as Mega Evolution, but for a Pikachu to do that is frankly unheard of. Quite the mystery, indeed," he said, steepling his fingers.
Jack could remember Bolt's evolved form quite clearly, but how he got there was rather...hazy. It was unusual, he usually had such a good memory...

Jacqueline laughs loudly at her cameraman's comments with a grin on her face. "Please, dear, I had a following long before the Plasma incident. And as for my brand elements? Well, let's just say there's a reason I'm the one with my own tv show, so perhaps you should think on that before knocking it. Just because there are no obvious connections doesn't mean that they don't form a cohesive unit."
Jacqueline laughs lightly again, the anticipation rising, tightening the purple bandana tied around her left arm, a staple from past days. "They don't just watch me because I have a pretty face, don't you worry. Me and my team know a thing or two about violent ghosts." She winks at her cameraman before turning her head and yelling back to the pilot. "Hurry up and bring us down, before I'm tempted to jump out~."

Jacq"Yeah, yeah" The Cameraman says as he undoes his harness and gets ready to move. A few moments later the Helicopter lands and the Cameraman jumps down, his stance uncertain as he gets his bearings. Once Jacq makes her way out as well, he points to the dilapidated Tower in the distance "There it is. Pokemon Tower. They say something broke between the barrier between this world and the next and that's why everyone has evacuated. Some say it was a super strong Gengar, or a Spiritomb. Others say it was Giritina itself." He readies the camera on his shoulder and smiles at Jacq "Well Miss Lavoie, are you ready to find out what it was?" JackOne of the kids pipes up, one that Jack recognizes from multiple lectures he's done all over Unova "But Professor, I thought that only Fully Evolved Pokemon could do it. So you're saying that Bolt didn't turn into a Raichu?" The kid looks at Bolt and goes a little red "I mean...obviously he isn't a Raichu but still..." Another kid piped up, one Jack didn't recognize, with semi long green hair sneered "See they messed up by not making it just make people forget. They could have just made the trainers forget they ever had Pokemon and then no one would have fought back!" LukeConnor shook his head "That's where you're wrong" He took a few steps forward and laughed "We'll fight and you'll freeze and I'll walk away the Champion without having to even try" Luke felt one of the Pokeballs on his side shake a little, the first in line. It looked like even when he was recalled, Gawain knew when Luke was in any kind of danger. The shake was a nice comfort. His brother held his arms out towards the stands "It'll be even better tomorrow. The whole family will be here to watch me crush you" Dave"He said his name was something Nox. Said he was a big shot in Kanto and wanted revenge for Unova, to show that it was all a fluke" The older man says as he heads towards the door "But I will let him know you will be a few minutes, and that his boasts fell on deaf ears. Mayhaps stirring him up will make him an actual challenger for you. It seems it's been a while since you had any difficulty winning, though that might have to do with the Upgrades you made to your Porygon" Turner left through the only door, leaving Dave alone to prepare. The room was a loft apartment, though much larger than something someone would get in the lower floors. In addition to the regular amenities there was a PC in the corner so that he could switch his team on the fly, and a Healing machine as well, so he didn't have to head down to the Pokemon Center to heal between matches. Everyone make another Focus check

Hmmm… Well, ‘Nox’ does seem familiar, though he can’t quite place it. He could swear that he heard it recently… so, maybe it would actually be a good battle. Or not. There are enough people in the world that’re all talk, but can’t actually follow through when it comes down to it.
That’s enough rumination, though. He goes over to the sink, and splashes water on his face to help him wake up. That makes him feel better, although he’s still feeling a little bit foggy. That’s not a good thing… for any battle, especially near the top, you need to be at the peak of your game. He’s sure that he’ll feel better once he gets into the stadium, though – the energy of the crowd is always revitalizing.
Quickly changing into clothes that weren't slept in, and tidying up his hair a bit, he grabs the Pokéballs he has out, and begins to head down to meet the challenger.

"An interesting question, I'm glad you pointed that out," Jack said, getting up from his chair. He walked over to a nearby shelf, picking up a crystalline orb. It seemed to resonate with electrical energy. "Generally you would be correct, only fully evolved Pokemon can Mega Evolve, and my experience with Bolt is certainly out of the norm, however, as with all 'rules' there are always exceptions. There are certain items that only effect unevolved Pokemon and have no impact on their evolved form. Take this Light Ball, for example," Jack said, holding up the item, "in the hands of a Pikachu, this Light Ball would grant a considerable power boost, however in the hands of a Raichu it is utterly mundane--a curious interaction, indeed."
Jack replaced the Light Ball on the mantle, right next to some pictures from his journey and other mementos he'd chosen to keep. There was his trophy from the Tournament of Heroes, and Chef Rodger's Lucky Knife.
He heard another child pipe up, and Jack turned around to face him. "Ah, I see we have a new guest. I'm afraid I didn't catch your name," he said with a smile. Jack walked back over to his chair and sat down. The boy reminded him quite a lot of N, the King of Team Plasma. The boy might've been related--a grandson or some such.
"You make a valid point. Perhaps if they had arranged for trainers to forget about their Pokemon it would've worked, though I hardly suspect that Team Plasma anticipated that a trainer would take such a hit in place of their Pokemon. They took a rather narrow, pessimistic view of we trainers," Jack said, leaning back into his chair. "Nevertheless, even if Team Plasma had anticipated that, I don't believe that it would have been successful." Seeing the curious, confused, and confrontational looks on their faces, Jack decided to provide an explanation.
"You see, for those individuals who truly embrace what it means to be a Pokemon Trainer, the bond formed between a trainer and their pokemon companions is very deep indeed. Through their shared experiences, those special few achieve a bond that is greater than the sum of its parts. It becomes something primal--something instinctive--woven into the very fiber of their being. That level of connection transcends such limitations as time, space, and even memory," Jack explained before delving into examples.
"There have been cases throughout history of especially powerful Psychic-type Pokemon erasing the memories of trainers and pokemon, or otherwise exerting control over those individuals, and for each case there are almost as many reports of pokemon and trainers with a special bond resisting such effects. There are reports of bodies moving on instinct, against all logic and influence, to protect one another, and of individual trainers and pokemon snapping free of such effects, their memories and selves restored, all because of the loving bond they shared," Jack explained with a warm smile on his face. "So you see, bonds such as these are not so easily severed. It is my belief that, had Team Plasma anticipated using their weapon on Trainers, it is this bond that would have persevered in the face of such adversity. And if not my bond with Bolt, well, then perhaps Luke and Gawain could have endured it. Needless to say, I'm quite glad my theory was not put to the test," Jack said, reaching over to pet Bolt as he chuckled to himself.

Luke simply keeps smiling, unperturbed by his brother's words, and pats Gawain's ball a few times. "If that's your battle strategy I'm surprised you have made it this far. If that's all you're expecting from me tomorrow, I'm afraid you're gonna be sorely disappointed. I'm not afraid of you anymore, Connor. I will not back off, will not freeze. As for our family?" He shrugs, "I don't really have anything to proof to anyone. Not anymore." He shakes his head once, smile gone, a resolute look now on his face.

Jacqueline looks to her cameraman and grins at his rather silly question, giving him a quick wink. "Why of course I'm ready~. Wouldn't be much of a show if I decided to head off to the hills, now would it?" She grins, staring directly at the camera. "Well, I would give you a summary of the history of this place, but seeing how wonderful of a job my cameraman here did, I don't particularly feel the need to!" She takes a moment, tilting her head back and forth, before deciding on something. Now was a time to go with the classics. She lightly taps a pokeball on her side, and out from it emerges a Drifblim, wearing a comically small top hat on its head and with a long scarf around its neck. She gives Floon a light pat on the side before looking to her cameraman with a smile. "Well, no time like the present, right?" Then, she begins dashing off towards the tower, giving her cameraman a good shot before turning around and waiting for him to catch up.

LukeConnor ran his hand through his hair as he threw his head back in laughter before turning back to Luke "Oh, that was good. You've gotten really good at your little tough guy act. I wonder how many times we'll need to hit your mangy Gawain before you go back to crying like usual" He strode across the field until he was standing inches away from Luke, a cruel grin crossing his face "I'll make you regret the day you became a trainer" JacqAs Jacq and the cameraman make their way through the town and towards the tower, Floon fights off a surprisingly large number of weak ghost types, batting them away with little to no effort. But still, Jacq had never been to a place where not only were there this many ghost types around, but being actively hostile as well. Thankfully the larger Floon has no problems keeping them at bay. As they begin to close in on the tower, the Cameraman freezes, a look of terror on his face "Are...Are you sure that we should go in there..." DaveWhen Dave opened the door he was greeted by a standard hallway leading in a few directions. Directly across was the elevator he normally took to the battlefield, however a bright yellow out of order sign had appeared since he last saw it. Turning towards the stairs leading up, he began his ascent. However after a few minutes, he realized that he should have reached another floor by now. Looking behind him, the stairs spiraled down for what seemed like forever. JackThe kids all looked on with wonder as Jack once more came up with an answer to the questions they thought were unanswerable. The green haired child however began to laugh, a slight chuckle at first that eventually devolved into a maniacal cackle, as his body seemed to shift, his skin seeming to ripple as his form grew. A moment later a much taller man was standing there, his hair reaching past his shoulders, with three strands standing up at the sides and the front. A strange monocle lay placed over his right eye and his clothes had changed into some sort of ceremonial robe. "A bond between Trainers and Pokemon? Things like that are nothing more than sentimental drivel, lies spread by people too afraid to face the truth that Trainers are keeping Pokemon hostage against their will. Think about it. When you capture a Pokemon in one of the infernal Pokeballs, they can go from fighting you with every ounce of their being, to listening to your every whim!" He gestured wildly and the children all stared, entranced as he continued "Of course, sometimes that doesn't happen and the Pokemon will rebel against their captor, which fools like him will try and use to prove that the Pokeball isn't mind control. However, just because a particularly strong willed being can fight it to some extent, doesn't change anything!" He knelt down by one of the children "Now, bring forth your Pokeballs and break them, set your Pokemon free!" The child hesitates for a moment, looking to Jack, before looking back down and throwing the ball to the ground, breaking it and releasing his Pokemon Focus again everyone

"Uhhhh..." Dave says, faltering as he tries to register exactly what's happening. Because this is not something that's normal. "Hello?" he calls out. Not that it's likely that anyone can hear him. But, it's worth a shot. He thinks for a minute, rubbing his eyes to make sure he was seeing things right, before eventually admitting he is. Eventually, he reaches for his PokéNav, seeing if he can get in touch with anyone. Again, not likely, but he doesn't know what the hell is going on, and he really doesn't feel like climbing more stairs if he can help it... Focus: 10

Luke's confident smile disappears as Connor is talking, replaced by a resolute glare. He is somewhat taken aback by his brother's sudden... directness. Connor never was this blunt when tormenting him. Still, he stands his ground, not giving an inch as Connor closes up to him. "Good luck with that. If you want me to break down, you're gonna need it."

The sudden transformation of the boy caught Jack utterly by surprise. Bolt tried to dash for the pokeball, but didn't quite reach it in time. Now the old Pikachu stared down the robed man, lightning crackling from his cheeks.
Jack frowned at the broken pokeball, and the rather confused looking Growlithe that had come out of it. The Growlithe was looking up at its former trainer with sad, co fused eyes.
"Spoken like a man who hasn't the faintest idea what he's talking about," Jack said, kneeling down to pet the Growlithe. "Firstly, the schematic for basic pokeballs has been available online for decades now. People can, and often do, make their own, and none of the components subject the Pokemon go 'mind control'," Jack said, glaring at the robed man.
"Secondly, as any behavioral psychologist knows, many Pokemon highly value strength, and seek out trainers that can help them become stronger. They battle those trainer's Pokemon, and if they are defeated and captured in a way that is satisfactory to them, they will often be more respectful toward that trainer," Jack explained, standing up to face the robed man. They were scant inches away from each other.
"And lastly, let's for the moment assume you were right. If that were so, then why would Team Plasma have needed to erase the memories of Pokemon they blasted with their Amnesia Cannon? Surely the Pokemon would've been enraged at their former trainers, hmm?," Jack asked rhetorically.
"As you can see, children, this man's claims do not hold up under proper scrutiny. That is typically the case with the ravings of fanatical lunatics. They sound good at the time, but fall apart under more intense examination," he said, producing a pokeball from his coat and handing it to the boy who had destroyed his.
"If you truly care about your Pokemon, and you want to know if they wish to travel with you, just ask them, and be respectful of their wishes and feelings. They'll let you know when something is amiss," he said, offering the pokeball to the boy. The confused Growlithe was was still looking at his former trainer, concerned.

Jacqueline looks to her cameraman with confusion etched on her face. What was bothering him so? Well, no matter, there was adventure in creepy ghost tower to be had. "Of course I'm sure about this. I wouldn't have come this far if I hadn't. Now come on."
She turns and strides towards the entrance of the tower, motioning for Floon and the cameraman to follow.

JacqAs Jacq approached the entrance, she looked up at the tower one more time. However something seemed off. There was no top in sight, it just kept rising higher and higher into the sky, eventually beginning to spiral after a certain point. Before she could fully grasp what was going on, there was a shriek behind her. Looking back, the Cameraman was no longer following her, instead he was flailing as the shadows seemed to grow clawed hands that were grasping at his wriggling form and pulling him into them. A moment later a pair of red eyes appeared for a moment, before he was pulled in completely with a scream. The eyes focused on Jacq. DaveWhen he pulls out his Pokenav, Dave notices the screen is nothing but static, the snowy looking screen spilling out of the device after a moment, consuming the stairs and walls around him until he is floating in an endless sea of static. He floated as if in space, his feet no longer finding purchase on the ground. Time passed, maybe a few minutes, or hours, or days, He really wasn't sure of time anymore since there was no light other than the glow given off by the white that seemed to pop in and out of existence constantly around him, and no sound other than the constant white noise that was just loud enough to make it impossible to think clearly. But eventually, a form appeared in the storm. A familiar pink and blue Pokemon forced its way into the space in front of Dave and cocked its duck like head. JackThe man grinned, unphased by anything Jack said "There are so many holes in this mans argument that it would make a Shuckle blush. But I guess I'm not surprised since he thinks Mega Evolution is caused by friendship and he ignores all scientific evidence that it not only causes intense pain to the Pokemon who undergoes it, but also brings out their most violent instincts, causing many to go on rampages, sometimes even mauling their own trainer." He walks over and opens the door, causing the Growlithe, which changes into a Rattata for a moment before finally taking shape as a Pichu that was the spitting image of a young Bolt to run out. He smiles once more "Have any of you ever heard of Stockholm Syndrome?" Most of the children looked confused before he continued "After being kidnapped for long enough, the victim will sometimes begin to sympathize with their captors. Now compound this with the lingering effects of a mind altering device, and you have the need for a way to cause the Pokemon to forget their traumatic experience. Really, this man did nothing but set progress back decades by stopping Team Plasma." The kids all began to nod along, pulling out their own Pokeballs and throwing them to the floor "Yes, good. Free them from their shackles!" When Jack looked around, he realized that Bolt was no longer in the room... Luke"I'm so glad you've finally started to fight back, it makes it so much more satisfying." He took a few steps back and began to clap, the stadium slowly being overwhelmed by the sound. When he looks around, Luke realizes the stands are now full, each and every seat being filled by images of his brothers, all cheering for Connor or jeering at him. Reaching down once more to try and rest his hand on Gawains ball, he found it missing. "Oh, looking for this?" Connor says tossing a Pokeball up and down in his hand "See I thought of an even better idea. I'll just beat you with your own Pokemon. I heard of this tech from a far off land and got it imported" He pulls out a little chip that he inserts into the Pokeball, which shudders for a second before becoming a dark black color "It's a step up from the old Snag Machines, much less cumbersome. But now your little Gawain will listen to my every command, or get a nasty little shock" He throws the ball forward and Gawain emerges. At least something like Gawain emerges, but his fur had changed to a much darker color, and his bloodshot eyes were filled with rage. He bared his fangs at Luke and took a few steps forward. Focus please everyone

Dave panics somewhat as even his PokéNav goes all wonky... and reality breaks down even further. He can't dwell on it for too long, though, because the incessant noise makes actually thinking nigh on impossible. It almost makes him long for the droning of endless questions. Almost. But after a timeless eternity, there's another form. A familiar one at that. Relief is the first thing that comes to mind. "Hal? Is that you? Boy, am I glad to see you here. Uh, wherever hear is. How'd you get here? Is there a way out?" That's soon replaced with some concern. "I do wish that you weren't here, though... this kinda stuff can't be good for a Porygon."Focus: 11

At the sight of Gawain, his oldest, best friend snarling at him, looking wild and rabid, feeling... wrong, something broke in him. He was done with being scared, he was done with being belittled. He was done with his brothers. His face turned into an emotionless mask as his hand moved to another ball on his belt. "Palamedes," he says as he calls out the Stoutland, his voice flat. The canine emerged from his ball, landing between Luke and Gawain, looking between the two confused for a moment, before taking up a stance to protect his trainer. Luke, however, isn't looking at Gawain. His gaze is fixed to a point behind Connor's head. "End my brother. Now." His voice is still as calm and flat as before as he gives the command.

Jacqueline curses under her breath as the apparition kidnaps her cameraman, narrowing returning the glare with a stare of her own. This confirmed it, something didn't want her in that tower, so that's where she was going to go. There was too much danger here to let things stay as they were, her show hardly mattering to her now. Time to get serious.
"Floon, stay watching my back. If anything so much as attempts to approach me, power up and give it a full power Shadow Ball." She reaches to her side and taps her second pokeball in order, the graceful form of a Froslass - wearing a decidedly ungraceful grey beanie with a skull design on it - appearing beside her. "Fortune, you're covering front, blast anything that moves. We're getting into, and up, this damn tower."
Then, Jacqueline sets off on a run into the tower with her pokemon flanking her, intent on getting into and up the tower as quickly as possible.

Jacq
Jacq is able to make it into the Tower, the inside being oddly barren, though there's still a dilapidated entrance desk to greet her, a Gengar sitting in the receptionist chair until Fortune blasts it away. Behind her, Floon expands themself and blocks off the entrance, though Jacq can here them firing off a near constant barrage of attacks. It seems the Drifblim could hold them off for the moment, though they wouldn't be able to keep moving with Jacq.
Fortune is able to keep the Ghost Trainer safe as she started her ascent up the stairs, though the higher up they get the more angry spirits attack. After about three stories, a figure blocks the entrance on the other side. A Pokemon with a black body and a skulled head stands guard, a bone that burns on both sides clutched in its hands. It's eyes glow the same red as the beast that had taken the cameraman and it's shadow seems impossibly large.
Luke
For a moment the Stoutland hesitates, though after seeing Gawain, he looks back at Luke for a moment before steeling his gaze and charging into Connor. With almost no resistance, the boy went flying and crumpled to the ground, dark liquid pooling around his head. Gawain doesn't calm down however, and charges into Palamedes, a whirling mass of claws and fur and fangs. After a a few moments of battle, Gawain stands over the Stoutland, his chest heaving as he howls, more vicious than Luke had ever heard before.
As he finishes his cry, and turns his head to look at Luke, the form of Connor stands back up, his chest still caved in and his face covered in red, but a smile still on his lips.
Dave
"It's fine Dave. Everything will be fine" A monotone voice came from Hal "No way out. This is our home now. It's just you and me and everything" He floats forward a few feet, or inches, just like time, space has little meaning here.
The static around Dave seems to move even more, eventually taking the shape of people. Not just any people however. Looking closely Dave can see that the static was taking the shape of two boys and a girl, each laying unconscious in a strange chair or couch or....something.
Hal notices the static shapes and turns to Dave "You'll need to forget about them, about everything. This is your life now"

"What the... wha?" Stunned, Dave's jaw drops as he hears the voice come out of Hal. Of all the weirdness that had happened so far, that is probably the most unsettling, because it's within his frame of reference. This static, and infinity, and all... it's all completely alien. But this... "Since when can you talk?"It takes him some time to pull his thoughts back together, not helped by the static of the void constantly interrupting. He tries to recognize the people... they seem somewhat familiar, but he can't immediately place them... Who they are doesn't matter, though. That wasn't important. "No." He says, firmly. "Like hell I'm going to accept this. This isn't fine. This isn't life. This isn't anything. You should know that. Life is pushing yourself forwards. Challenging yourself. I don't care what you say. If there's a way in, there's a way out. And I'm. Not. Giving. Up."Focus: 19

"You know full-well everything you're spouting is false! The schematics for pokeballs are common knowledge--anyone can build them--and not one component has anything to do with mind control. And Mega Evolution? Causing pain? Absurd, preposterous! Not just any pokemon can mega evolve, even those with recorded stones--it requires a special connection to a trainer with their own Mega Ring, and an attunement between the two! That's not just hypothesis, it's a recorded scientific fact!," Jack rebutted, eyeing the fanatic angrily.
"You can dress up your fanaticism however your like, suggesting that Pokemon all have some type of Stockholm Syndrome, but you and I both know the truth of the matter. For you and your ilk it has never been about the well-being of Pokemon. You Team Plasma fanatics desire only power and control, and to exert that control you would have every trainer in the world bereft of their Pokemon companions while Team Plasma uses their own Pokemon to force their will on others. You're just the same as all the others, and I've had quite enough of you and your absurdities in my house!," Jack said as forcefully as he could, slamming his foot into the hardwood floor.
It was then that Jack realized Bolt was no longer in the room. The possibility that Bolt would've abandoned Jack never crossed his mind, even for an instant. Bolt was simply out trying to round up the Pokemon the children had let loose. Nevertheless, Jack was drawn to take Bolt's pokeball out of his coat. It was old, and very dirty from disuse. There was a faded, peeling thunderbolt sticker on the front. Bolt and Jack had decorated it themselves. As far as Jack could remember, Bolt had only been in his pokeball once--on the day he was born, after Jack asked the little Pichu if he wanted to live with him. That brief instant was the one and only time that Bolt had ever been in there that Jack could remember. Bolt didn't seem to like being away, and Jack didn't want Bolt to be away from him either, so it was a convenient excuse. Either way, that was proof enough to Jack that this man was a liar through and through. Bolt had never once tried to abandon him, and had come to his rescue on numerous occasions, not through force or coercion, but out of love for one another. In his heart, Jack knew that to be true as he returned the aged pokeball into his coat pocket.

Luke recoils back at the bloody sight in front of him, horrified not so much of the fact that his brother was this bloodied, but that he was still standing and smirking that stupid smile of him as Palamedes laid defeated on the ground. Going for another ball, he calls out Abbadon. "Abbadon, it's time to fight! End my brother." The Sawsbuck has no need for any more motivation, and charges at Connor, antlers aimed towards him.
