Hi. I'm DJW. Two out of the original four players have left my existing game, and I'm looking for one new player to join. The players who are still there are playing an Ace Trainer/Taskmaster and a Trickster/Commander. The first previous player left the game with the opinion that it was "far too gamey", and that "not enough roleplaying [was] really happening". (Though, to be fair, the game had just begun and the characters were still on their first day, so I don't know if he gave it long enough of a chance. I encourage you, prospective player, to check out the game threads for yourself and see if the gameplay is to your liking.) The second previous player is in school and just wasn't able to keep up with the posting requirements, which are as follows:
After every post by me, the GM, you have 24 hours to submit a post of your own. If I post again before the 24 hours pass, the timer resets and your 24 hours begins anew. So you don't always have to post every single day. You also aren't required to make every post an essay. They don't all need to be substantial. It can just be a few fluff words just to make sure you made your post on time, if it needs to be. Weekends and holidays are exempt from this rule. Nothing needs to happen on weekends and holidays, as I understand people travel and visit with family and friends. If you miss the posting deadline all the time, it means that this game is not a great fit for you. I'll graciously write your character out and I'll recruit a replacement. If you only miss the deadline every now and then, I probably won't do anything except NPC you a little if it's totally necessary. Players that make it the whole work week with no misses will be rewarded in-game with a free item. At this point, my current players have received lots of free items.
The gist of this game is to provide players with a mostly vanilla experience that strongly recaptures the game-like feeling and innocent fun of the handhelds (a goal that the first player who left must not have understood, as it was his exact complaint). I've made a new region of my own just to make sure that things aren't too stale, but I won't be throwing any fakemon or anything like that at you. It's just an opportunity for you to play the classic Pokémon story formula that always works so well with the added benefit of having the freedom to do more than you could in the games.

"Hello, there, promising young Trainer! It's your friendly neighborhood Pokémon Professor, here. I'm excited to tell you that a brand new region was recently discovered. It's Tevorah, a warm region where cowboy hats and boots are common and people greet one another with the phrase 'Howdy!' I've enclosed a map of it for your convenience."
Map of the Region
"Why am I telling you all of this? Well, I've been in touch with the members of our Pokémon League, and I'm very happy to tell you that, out of all of the new Trainers in all the regions, you are one of the few that have been selected to travel to Tevorah and explore it! You are encouraged to take note of what species can be found in this region, and to participate in the region's Gym Challenge in order to see if it's any different that the challenges of the other known regions.
We've learned that Tevorah has a strange custom - Trainers are only allowed to carry and use two Pokémon at a time. Carrying any more than two Pokémon on your person at any given time is considered illegal. Trainers can battle with 1 on 1 single matches, 1 on 1 two-Pokémon elimination matches, or with a full-on Double Battle where all four Pokémon are fighting at once, but that's all. No other forms of battle take place in Tevorah, although Trainers are still allowed to fight in battles like normal if they want. Why does the region force Trainers to behave this way? We don't know. You are encouraged to find out what happened to cause such a law to be put into place over there.
We realize that it's going to be difficult for you to travel like that, only able to have two Pokémon with you at a time instead of six Pokémon like the Trainers of all the other regions, so we've developed a special Pokédex just for you to use on this journey! It's exactly like a normal Pokédex, except it has a remote PC link! You can store and withdraw Pokémon from your PC on the go using your Pokédex! That should be a big help to you. We aren't sure how the authorities of Tevorah will react to such tactics, so make sure you keep this technology hush-hush.
Well, that's it. Meet me at my lab anytime today and we will arrange some transportation for you. Good luck, young Trainer, and venture forth to further expand the world's knowledge of Pokémon!"

Character Creation:
Use this character sheet. Trainers begin at Level 1 with a single Level 5 Starter. It can be any single-typed Pokémon of a three-stage line with Underdog, but may not be Dark, Ghost, Steel, or Dragon-typed. Alola mons are okay but you may have to stat them out yourself. I'm not sure if the Fancy Sheet has been updated to include them yet. Give me a Wishlist of at least 9 more Pokes you'd like to capture. Give the name of the stage at which you'd like to encounter it. If you want a Charizard, you don't have to ask for a Charmander if you don't care about Charmander or Charmeleon. You'll just encounter a Charizard when the time is right. After that, give me a list of 5 Pokes you hate so I don't accidentally give you something you don't want.
You may be starting at Level 1 but you won't be there for long. Why? House rule: The only XP for Trainers in the game is Pokédex XP, and it is shared. Everything else will be handled with Milestones. Pokémon level by winning a battle. You only have two Pokémon on you at any point in time. As soon as one of those Pokémon KO's an opponent, you earn a level, and you can give that level to either the Pokémon that just KO'd the opponent, or the other Pokémon that's waiting in the wings, but you cannot switch Pokémon before awarding the level. It has to go to one of the two that are on you at the time the level was earned.
All playtests are in use, and the books allowed are Core and GoT, but please be sure to vote either in favor of or against the new capture mechanics playtest rules, because if enough of you are against them, we'll sue the old rules. Supernatural classes like Elementalists and Psychics are allowed, but they are very rare and there should be a good backstory justification for them if you want a class like that. Kind of like how things are in the anime, most of the notable people of the world are still not of a supernatural class.
You start with 5k in cash, 10 basic balls, 3 potions, 2 enriched water, an antidote, a revive, a tent, a flashlight, and a lighter.
Your character has to be at least 11 years old and you should note which region they hail from and explain why they were picked to go on this mission.

Some more house rules:
• You can use your Standard Trainer Action to administer restoratives without the target forfeiting their next turn. You don't need to take any Edges to do this.
• Using your Standard Trainer Action to perform a simple Pokédex scan lets you learn everything that the PokéManiac Feature lets you learn, no skill check required.
• Tevorah Pokémon are tough. If you're trying to spare one from fainting in order to catch it, you can automatically do so. It will retain 1 HP so you can catch it. If you want to just faint it, though, you can do that, too, unless it has an actual Ability that prevents it from being KO'd. Keep this in mind when building your characters. There's no need to invest in the ability to reduce Pokémon to 1 HP, because you can do that for free in this game.
