== New Eve Village== Your party of four, having just met each other at the entrance to New Eve Village, finds itself surrounded by a dark atmosphere. Though the time should be midday, it remains as though it was dusk, and the low hanging fog persisted despite a small breeze. Most of the buildings were shacks, with a few stone buildings here and there. Several graveyards and crypts existed, entrances to the public ones readily available. A large mansion towards the far end of town was the Gym, and it was busy as usual. A large amphitheater was present toward the left side of town, and was bustling with activity. The Pokemon Center, the Poke Mart, and a few other novelty shops were located towards the eastern end of the small town, and a small covered kiosk was positioned towards the center of town, beside a large broken well. The pathways were marked dirt trails, and moss covered the rocks and tombstones nearby. Your group was soon greeted by a young woman wearing a long black dress and a pair of mary janes with the same purple tint to them that her long and flowing hair had. Her hair was somewhat unkempt, and her purple eyes bore spirals instead of normal pupils. "Welcome, new traveling group, to this village of darkest nights and dimmest days. We do not have or do much here, but please be at home."She readily had two Poke Balls on hand it seemed, both clipped to a pouch she had tied at her waist, and seemed friendly, if a little off putting in her voice.

Barberry smiles as he looks up at the young lady, having been looking around at the streets and buildings of the dark town. It'd been a fair walk from Crosspoint Village to here, after all, and so he's eager to experience this new place. It's a little gloomy, certainly, but he's certain the place has some fascinating places and rich history he's keen to learn about.
He steps forward, clasps the woman's hand in both of his and shakes it vigorously, a huge, genuine smile on his face. "Hello there! I'm Barberry and may I just say how much I appreciate being welcomed like this? I mean, not just being welcome in your lovely village, but for you to take the time to greet a few travellers like us, that's just wonderful, I..."
A small hand squeezes Barberry's shoulder. Jinjo puts his head next to his ear, having been riding piggyback on his as he is wont to do, and says a calming "Shreeeew"
After a moment's pause, Barberry blinks and releases the woman's hand, stepping back. "Anyway, thank you for the welcome, Miss... oh, I do apologize, you must think me terribly rude - I didn't ask for your name!"

Shirin had been rather torn between admiring the ambiance of New Eve Village, just as somber and quiet as he'd heard it would be! There were also new people, though, and neglecting them to gawk at the village in general would have been pretty rude... Thankfully, they were greeted before it became an issue, by a (relatively) colorful local!
Then, in a charming display of youthful enthusiasm, that young boy - Barberry - beat him to a greeting. Still, it wouldn't do to be outdone, so as Barberry stepped away, he stepped up, lightly clasped her other hand for a polite greeting, and said, "Hello, hello! Shirin is my name, and my friend here is right, such an amazing greeting! If you're all this friendly, I'm sure we won't have any trouble at all."
His greeting given, he stepped away to give the next traveler room to say hello, as he waited for their gracious host to reveal her name.

Quietly watching for lack of anything meaningful to contribute, a very well dressed and exceptionally short young lady decidedly hung back a bit in the face of such enthusiastic comradery, not wanting to compete for personal space. It was already starting to look cramped over there in front of the stranger welcoming them to town. Waiting until the boys had also finished speaking, Valorie would bide her time until she had a moment to speak unfettered by anyone else. " . . . And my name is Valorie Ryder. Hi~!" Valorie would finally announce, wiggling a couple of fingers and offering a pleasant smile from her vantage point.

The woman shook the hands offered to her enthusiastically, if perhaps a little too much so.
"Barberry, Shirin, Valorie. Welcome. I am Malady, a Hex Maniac now on her journey around the region to collect all the badges. As a native of this village, I urge you to avoid the Crypt of Griguskhamun, for many traveling Trainers do not return from their descents within. Only the Gym Leaders have been inside and returned unchanged. Recently, though, there have been grave robbers disturbing all of the crypts, so take caution even in the safer ones, unless you feel so bold as to put a stop to them!"
Turning to Chance, she gave a bit of an unsettling smile and extended a hand to him. "You... Your name is what? Don't be shy, your friends greeted me easy enough!"

Chance scanned the town unsure of what to make of it all. It was just so surreal and, if he was being honest, a little unsettling. His focus shifted the girl who had accompanied him on his travel from Rustic Town and he let his mind wander. Rustic Town isn't a very large place, yet he'd never seen her before. There was so much lot to take in, and he definitely had been staring too long. He didn't even notice that the others had been talking, at least not until Malady addressed him. "Oh.. uh. My name is Chance." The somewhat sloppily if not comfortably dressed boy spoke with unease, still mentally off balance due to the atmosphere. "Chance Pennywise. Nice to meet you." Having regained some of his composure, he extended his hand to reach Malady's. His movements were still a bit shaky and stiff. He still hasn't calmed down yet. Great. You only get one chance to make a first impression.

Barberry turns and gives an encouraging smile to Chance. "That's the spirit! It's very nice to meet you all!"
He turns back to Malady. "Now, these grave robbers... what can we do to help with the matter? That is, me and Jinjo and anyone else who wants to - I've no wish to volunteer anyone without their permission. Nevertheless, I'd certainly like to lend any aid I can."

Shocked even at the thought that he wouldn't want to help out, Shirin said, "Oh, volunteer away, its not like I could let you go on your own! Grave robbers - any robbers, really - are scary! Probably? Anyways, they might be bold enough to steal from spooky crypts, but I bet we'd all feel better with more numbers. And if we can stay away from Gru- Giruga- no... Griguskhamun? Mhm, his tomb... What about you two, Valorie? Chance? You'd love a ch-an opportunity! To return such gracious hospitality, right?"
Technically, it was also a chance to prove they were bold and adventurous, heroic Trainers in the making... But after such a splendid greeting who wouldn't be moved to help a community in need?

Having caught his bearings and having heard what sounded like a great way to prove himself, Chance snapped to attention. To his companions he spoke. "Oh, absolutely. I mean we are all here, so why not." His movements and demeanor holding both purpose and confidence. Chance slipped into a profiling pose with his head tilted down, his left arm reaching across his body grabbing his elbow, and his left hand tipping a nonexistent hat while he dramatically proclaimed to Malady, "M'lady Malady, I am confident that you can count on us to solve this that troubles you so." If any trace of the unease he had felt before were still present it wasn't noticeable. Either way nothing was going to stop him now. As he returned to his more neutral self, Chance addressed his companions, "And Bar...Ba...Barbor.....Barberry. While I appreciate your politeness, you would be a fool to think that I would allow any of you to go to such a potentially dangerous place alone."

Malady seemed overjoyed. "Excellent! I'll lead all of you there if you're already ready to go. I will not venture inside with you however. You will be on your own with your Pokemon."
She turned and began to walk towards the back end of the town, which had a number of entrances to crypts located there. "If there are any questions about the crypts, I will answer what I can."

Overjoyed in turn, to follow such a happy guide, Shirin thought for a moment. Then, he launched into questioning, "Just one question... Well, two I guess. Can you tell us more about this great, uh, Griguskhamun? What was he so famous for? Which tomb is his? Why's that one in particular so scary! Stuff like that..."
"Oh, right. And, ahh, are these robbers foolish enough to try desecrating even his tomb?", he added, a touch of nervousness dimming his smile.

"I shouldn't worry!" Barberry gives an encouraging smile to Shirin. "I'm sure these guys will be reasonable enough not to try that. And besides, I must disagree with you assessment, Miss Malady." He reaches up behind him to give Jinjo's head a scratch. "As long as you have friends, you're never on your own.
"Still, I must concur with those questions - This... Griguskhamun must have done some great things if he has his own crypts."

Valorie got the impression that she was going to have to raise her voice if she wanted to be heard around here at some point. For now though, she just wasn't feeling up to it. She was a bit surprised to find herself the quiet one of the group, but she supposed she was amongst the boys. She did kind of want to know more about these tombs. Ghost pokemon were a far cry from her favorite type, and she'd be lying if she claimed she wasn't afraid. It raised questions about why she was here. Regardless, Shirin had already voiced most of her thoughts. "...Yeah, hehe~" Valorie would softly chime in at Barberry's comment about never being alone when you were with friends. "I'm ready to go when everyone else is." the new trainer went on to offer.

Chance grabs his chin with a look of smug confidence fueled by the excitement of a challenge and speaks. "Then it would seem that we are in agreement." Chance flashes a half-smile and points toward Malady. "I am also interested in learning more about this "Griguskhamun" guy and his tomb, so tell us everything you know." He then rests his arms at his side once more.

"Griguskhamun was supposedly an ancient ruler of an old kingdom existing well into the past. He was said to have merged himself into a Cofagrigus as a means of seeking eternal life, but the process went awry, and he met a grim end." Malady responded. She continued after a brief moment. "Some say he still exists to this day within his crypt, but few actually believe the tale. It's probably why people think it's scary, yet some can still enter to steal and destroy.""I shouldn't worry!" Barberry gives an encouraging smile to Shirin. "I'm sure these guys will be reasonable enough not to try that. And besides, I must disagree with you assessment, Miss Malady." He reaches up behind him to give Jinjo's head a scratch. "I repeat, once you are inside, no one can get you out beyond yourselves. You have been warned!"Valorie got the impression that she was going to have to raise her voice if she wanted to be heard around here at some point. For now though, she just wasn't feeling up to it. She was a bit surprised to find herself the quiet one of the group, but she supposed she was amongst the boys. She did kind of want to know more about these tombs. "As I told your friend, he was an ancient ruler of a long gone land that preceded this one. I can also add that he was known for his wealth and power in life, so his crypt likely holds many a fancy item. Do beware if you wish to take anything, for this town has no responsibility taken if you harm yourself with your actions."The entrance to some of the crypts was in a graveyard, though there was already trouble waiting: Two individuals wearing Malamar inspired military style uniforms stood conversing at the entrance to one of the crypts. They looked to be between the ages of 16 and 20, and were one boy and one girl.

Barberry raises an eyebrow at the suggestion of theft. "Well, of course, I'm sure none of us will..."
He trails off as he catches sight of the two people standing outside the tomb.
"Hello there!" He calls out cheerily, waving at them. "Are you here to help with solving this graverobbing business too?"
On his shoulders, Jinjo chirps at them while tensing up for if and when they say no.

The two individuals turned to face your group, wearing serious looks on their faces. "Yes, something like that." The man stated. The woman took her turn next. "We're here to look further into the methods these graverobbers use to enter the crypts and escape without befalling the fate many do. Such methods can be used against them if we can learn of it." She spun a good tale. DC 10 IntuitionYou suspect she may not be telling you the truth.
