It has been almost three years since Hakan left the land of Pure, Varius was once a whole new world to him, now he was getting comfortable in this new full-of-Pokemon environment. The graduation would come soon enough and Hakan would finally had all the time in the world to do some exploration, and he would be able to do that with his team of Pokemon. His first one was ready to be picked as Hakan found the "starter bag" hanging on his doorknob. Opening the file, he found a note and three individual files inside. Each file contained detailed information and all sort of picture of the Pokemon.
Good evening, Hakan. This is your Geology professor, Dr. Ben Livingston and I would like to formally congratulate you for completing your course here in Virizion. Time just flew by us without us knowing. I still remembered the time you shared about your culture with me when we were out on our vacation trip to Sinnoh region. Such a fascinating civilization, with an unique viewpoint on the world. Tales like that are why I enjoy teaching in Virizion, not only can I share what I like to people from different places and cultural backgrounds, but I too enjoy what the students bring into the conversation.
I am honored to be given the chance to pick out your starters and help you in the beginning of what I believe a long and fruitful journey in Varius. I also hope that one day you will like Varius as much as I am, it is a very great region. One more thing, remember this: "Don't forget your roots". They are what make you you, just like how the earth make our Earth Earth, and why we are studying them in geology.
Without further ado, here are what I have picked for you among the options I have:
Option 1
Option 2
Option 3

Option 1
Numel, F
Height: 2' 3"
Weight: 51.1lbs
The first option is a female Numel and a very trainer-friendly choice of a starter. I am certain you are well aware of the slow nature of the Numel species. This one is especially slow, recording an reaction time of 4.4 seconds over the average of 3.5 seconds, and can be good training for anyone impatient. I see no evidence suggestion you are an impatient person so I guess my point above is mute. Nonetheless, a slow Numel like this will cause you no trouble at all when it comes to taking care of her, as long as you are willing to wait for a response. Some find this charming, some find this annoying(Many Cobalion apparently, the most result-driven of the bunch).
Notes from the ranch owner suggests that this Numel is not particularly a good fighter or care too much about fighting. She is more of a pacifist, prefer to solve everything without unnecessary violence. She cares more about making friends than trying to harm someone else but sometime she can go overboard with this. One time, she got severely injured by a wild Tauros near the ranch, who she tried to make friend with but ended up getting rammed hard. Events like this did not stop her from trying similar things, she once got chased by a whole bunch of Combee and almost drowned herself by overstaying her welcome in the pool playing with a bunch of Water Pokemon. I am repeating what you learnt but normally Fire types have a hard time bonding with Watr type and I can assure you 99% of the Fire types in the ranch would not try to go toward the deep end of the pool.
If you do not mind her good and simple nature just one bit, then she can be only be good for you. You do not have to worry about her in battle, she is very willing to do what she is asked to and will give you all she can. But maybe try to refrain yourself from overkilling anyone in the wild, she still feel bad about her doing. Tournament is fine as long as you explain to her all sort of safety measure are taken to ensure the safety of her opponents.
Recommended Crunch
Nature: Any of the passive kind like Patient, Relaxed, Modest, Mild, Rash, Quiet, timid, Docile and so on
Ability: Take your pick, both fits well
Background: Gentle Lady - Will not harm a fly
Increased: Charm/Intuition/Command(Empathy, care about others and friendly, can be a motherly figure if given the chance)
Decrease: Intimidate/Combat/Guile(Pacifist, too simple-minded to deceit)
Established
Simple-minded - Default intelligence of Numel is 3, this one is 2
Height: 2' 3"
Weight: 51.1lbs

Option 2
Mudkip, M
Height: 1' 2"
Weight: 13.6lbs
Mudkip is a common starter in the Unova region and the school actually imported this one right from their lab, mainly for research purpose to see what kind of Pokemon are other regions giving for their trainer. Now that his work here in the lab is done, he is available for willing trainers, including you. As a starter given to underaged trainer, a common practice in some regions including Unova, this Mudkip is rather easy to handle.
Although I will have to say he is a bit hyper on some occasion, especially when he sees water. This Mudkip loves the water and his favorite weather is, without a doubt, rain. Hence, whenever he sees a pool or even a filled bath tub, he will charge right on it and jumps it for a swim. This is the one main thing you have to be careful about for this Mudkip. Oh, and make sure he does not see water disappear in any fashion. Even something like water drying up on the ground makes him upset and sometimes, angry. Other than the aqua-obsession, he is a simple Mudkip, behaves like a total child and will do whatever you ask to if you treat him good. Oh, I almost forgot, this one actually prefers clear water over muddy water even though he has no problem in muddy environment. He just...does not enjoy it as much as his kin.
In terms of battle capability, the Mudkip species has always been very good. Just search the internet for battle clips or visit our library here and you can see all the footage you like about his kind in competition. I believe Cobalion rates them the best Water/Ground type Pokemon, but do take that with a grain of salt because no system is perfect, even though some Cobalion might tell you so.
Recommended Crunch
Nature: Any of the more neutral natures, not very aggressive or very passive or maybe something like happy like Jolly
Ability: Both are fine, I personally think damp is more thematically appropriate
Background: Playful child - Fun first, anything else second
Increased: Athletics/Charm(Loves to swim so higher athletic, cute and charming)
Decrease: Intimidate/Command(Not trained to lead, does not care about it either)
Established
Water Lover - -1 Overland, +1 Swim, cannot resist the temptation of water
Height: 1' 2"
Weight: 13.6lbs

Option 3
Lillipup, F
Height: 1' 5"
Weight: 10lbs
For your last option, we have an imported Lillipup for you, from one heck of a bloodline too. Her father, Maverick, is one of the top ranger dogs in Unova region and has won multiple dog competition in the past. Her mother, War Dancer, is a Grade 2 racing dog. Sadly for the owner who invested a ton of money on her, she is not unable to achieve what was expected of her (which happened regularly in the racing sport, for your information, not all newborns of great parents turn into great dogs) the owner sold her and then we got her from there. She would be put to the ranger's headquarter otherwise as Lillipup is the go-to dogs for rangers in the desert environment. Either way, she has a bright future ahead of her.
As she was trained very well in her youth, this Lillipup is extremely competitive and is actually very capable among the Pokemon we get this year. She sees any canine Pokemon as her enemies, as educated by her trainer(as in race trainer) to create the mindset to succeed in the cutthroat sport. It is best for you to not put two canine Pokemon with you at one time because this Lillipup might create more troubles than you would like. Other Pokemon species are totally fine by her, she never attack anything else aside from canine Pokemon in the ranch and she only did so if she is triggered. Normally, she just barks and intimidates.
This might also be the result of her "abandonment" by her owner. She was not as aggressive toward other canine Pokemon before. From what I have heard from her first owner, she was not hard to handle and befriend many of the other dogs after their training together. That part of her changed after she arrived at the ranch.
Due to her background, she will be very easy to handle for you. She obeys easily and will do whatever you said without putting up any form of resistance. While the Lillipup line might not be the dream Pokemon species for any Pokemon trainer, I am sure you will be able to find ways to use this underdog to her full extend.

Nature: Proud/Decisive/Adamant/Brave/Docile

Background: Born to Compete - Competition is her life, training is her jam
Increased: Athletics/Acrobatics/Intimidate(Trained to race in a very competitive environment)
Decrease: Command/Guile/Intuition(Trained to obey, lack decision-making skill)
Established
Thoroughbred Racer - +1 to Overland, +1 to High Jump, +1 to Long Jump
Competitive: Canine - +1 C.S. to 2 different stats(1 random, 1 player's choice) when facing canine Pokemon, stats are gone when the no canine Pokemon is in range/available
Height: 1' 5"
