Cresting over a hill at the end of Route 1, Viridian City comes into view after a long day’s hike. It is a quiet, even quaint little city, dwarfing the much smaller Palette Town to the south and dwarfed in turn by the larger Pewter City to the north. Viridian’s principle claims to fame are the Bug-laden forest which shares its name north on Route 2, as well as being a crossroad between Kanto and Johto with Victory Road and the Pokemon League just to the west off Route 22. Of particular interest to Pokemon trainers are the Pokemon Gym and the Viridian City Academy. Located south and north of the city center, respectively, the Gym is the demesne of the Bug-Type expert, Buzz Bicker, while the Academy is renowned for its study of Pokemon and the free basic-level courses it provides on Pokemon care and training.
With daylight waning, though, perhaps it is in the group’s best interest to seek shelter in the Pokemon Center.

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag43/Nido_Nido_Nido/Amber%20profile_zpsi5h6z4n6.png Amber was not used to the outdoors. She was already sweaty and hated how tired she was from the relatively short distance. Her feet were heavy and her back was sore. She wished her pops hadn't convinced her to take a tent with her, as she knew it was probably the heaviest thing she owned. Since Chime hadn't seen much action during their second attempt at Route 1, Amber let him float beside her. However, she increasingly became jealous of his means of transportation. Amber pulled out her newly filled pokeball. The Sentret was named after a certain infamous forum clique, "The Whitney Lasses." Made up of mostly veteran female trainers, they were known as the housewives of the Elite fandom. Only a few had actually worked with the exceptional Johto Gym Leader, but Whitney had a surprisingly large female following. "We should probably, stop by the center first. I know our new captures could use a quick fix." Amber announced. Normally she wasn't the type to take charge but good lord did she was to sit for awhile.

"Yeah, it'll probably help Albus calm down." Terry agrees, rubbing his arm where his new friend hat stung him before realising it wasn't in danger. " His grin remained, no soreness or injury able to dampen his excitement at finally getting to catch a new pokemon. Val chirped from his bandanna and he gently rubbed her. "I'm not sleepy, so we could head out somewhere after. Maybe catch some nocturnal monsters."

Church agreed. Yeah, let's heal up our friends and go explore the area. Spot's a little hit from the battling and these two new ones need to rest ASAP. he looks at the city, remembering the route he used to traverse daily to get to his studies not so long ago.
Maybe he could swing by the Academy tomorrow to show his teachers and schoolmates his Pokémon and Trainer License. He wondered what his classmates would think of him, now that he had Pokémon of his own. He eyed his new Pokéballs. His team was growing very quickly. He liked the idea of keeping the Spinarak, who he named Webster, but a Ratatta wasn't in his prospects.
It seemed cruel to let the creature suspended in the Box system though. Maybe he'd find a place for the little one in the Academy? Or maybe even Trade it for something good.

Marshall keeps rolling the pokeball containing Ishida around in his head. This pokemon catching stuff is way more fun than he originally thought. At first he thought being a "Pokemon Master" was merely going to be a means to an end. Now, this might be something he does for the thrill of it!
He gets out of his daydream as he hears Terry suggest an evening exploration. "That sounds fun. Race you to the Center!" He yells out to the group, not waiting to see if they follow him as quickly.

i1380.photobucket.com/albums/ah182/chrystalrogue/Scarlett%20Oak%20post%20avatar_zpspnywqiog.jpg As the group entered the Pokemon Center, a girl in her late teens and wearing the dark green uniform of a student at the Viridian City Academy was receiving a group of Pokeballs back from the nurse. With long blonde hair bearing a butterfly pin to match her bright blue eyes, she was remarkably good-looking despite the dowdy school uniform. She turned to look at the motley crew a moment, puzzlement on her pretty features before recognition dawned into a mix of puzzlement and surprise. “You!” she exclaimed. “You’re the ones Daddy gave the Pokedexes to, right? I wasn't expecting you here until tomorrow - I'm Scarlett, Scarlett Oak. D-did he mention meeting up with me?”

Church frowned. This girl seemed familiar. He was sure he had seen her before at the Academy. He couldn't believe he hadn't noticed such a stunning face before. Her features captured his attention in a way he hadn't seen before, and weren't certainly the type to pass unnoticed. Maybe they had attended different classes?
He remembered this was Professor Oak's daughter, and that whatever little experience with charming women he had so far could only get him in a lot of trouble.
"Um...yeah, it's us. We only just left the lab a few hours ago. I'm Church, nice to meet you." He extended his hand in a greeting. "My friends here are Amber, Terry and Marshall. I...don't think your father mentioned you, but that might actually be our fault. We kinda rushed out of his lab as soon as we got our Pokédexes and Starter Pokémon. We didn't give him much time to explain anything." He added, smiling sheepishly as if to not upset the young lady.
"Hey, do you attend Viridian Trainer's Academy? I only just graduated the other week, actually! Maybe we've met before by chance?" He asked her.

i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag43/Nido_Nido_Nido/Amber%20profile_zpsi5h6z4n6.png Amber looked at the girl blankly for a few moments. She thought she remembered her from somewhere- ah. Gary Oak's daughter of course. She had probably stumbled across her name when some "scouters" had interrupted her conversations. Offspring and family were often mentioned in the Elite fandom, although Amber despised the rabid fans. One shouldn't be discussed if they have yet to prove any sort of skill. Although, this was the first time Amber had met one of these faux-celebrities. She couldn't help but be nervous around Scarlett Oak. It wouldn't have surprised her if the scouters were Coordinator scouters in particular; she had such a lovely look to her. Amber awkwardly shifted on her feet. She really wanted to get Lass into the healing machine and take a load off, but while Scarlett Oak blocked their path it looked like she would be standing for a while longer.

"He definitely did, but I only caught the 'Scar' part before the door shut, so I was expecting someone dressed as an off coloured Pyroar." Terry lies after glancing at Church "Did he give you the same spiel about seeking out foreign pokemon, or are you stuck still going to school?" He asks eagerly, obviously having forgotten the groups original purpose.

i1380.photobucket.com/albums/ah182/chrystalrogue/Scarlett%20Oak%20post%20avatar_zpspnywqiog.jpg Scarlett looked disappointed at Church’s response, but brightened visibly at the affirmation from Terry; evidently, she’d expected her father to have completely forgotten about her. He was, after all, Professor Oak. “I do,” Scarlett said to Church as she gestured at her green uniform, stepping aside to let them speak to the nurse. She gave a dismissive wave after a moment’s thought and let a slow, almost shy grin spread across her features. “That’s not what I’m interested in, though! We both got our starting Pokemon from the same lab at the same time - and that makes us rivals! I want to, um, to battle you. Before I challenge the Gym, I mean. It’ll be fun!”The blonde nodded at Terry’s question, favoring the boy with a smile. “He did, actually. I’m wrapping up my summer semester here, and then I’m free to tackle the Pokemon League over the summer break. Daddy wants me to help collect Pokemon for his research, but I’m really just interested in beating the Elite Four.”

Marshall sized the girl up and down. She doesn't look all that tough... He says, "Do you have any friends at the academy that you can have join you in the battle to make it more interesting? I'd love to test out my pokemon as well in an actual trainer battle prior to just diving right in to the gym! Maybe with a trainer that is interested in a full contact match? I hate just watching on the sidelines as my pokemon duke it out!"

http Oh boy, the scouters were going to be watching Scarlett like a hawk. It was possible that Amber could get the inside scoop added to her blog, but it was also possible that Scarlett's fanbase already knew about her goals. Well, depending on how dedicated and creepy her fanbase was. It could or could not be worth it to dedicate a portion of her blog to an up-and-comer, especially if she wasn't going to bring in the hits. "I'll just mention it as a rumor, I'll add it in tomorrow if Church wants to do this battle." Amber decided. Mechanics: Drain 1 AP for Chronicler

"Oh, you're challenging Buzz? We were thinking about it but I want to try and get my team a bit stronger first. How are you going to deal with his swarm tactics?" Terry asks, glancing at Marshall. Trust him to want to go full contact with a pretty girl.

i1380.photobucket.com/albums/ah182/chrystalrogue/Scarlett%20Oak%20post%20avatar_zpspnywqiog.jpg Scarlett looked shocked and disgusted as she shook her head vigorously at Marshall’s suggestion. “Other trainers, sure, but full-contact matches are strictly prohibited by League regulations. That full-contact thing is positively barbaric! It’s the sort of thing Team Rocket would do, not any self-respecting trainer. Besides, that’s grounds for expulsion - and I’m not looking to get kicked out a couple days from graduation.”Scarlett nodded at Terry’s question, slipping into a more academic mode. For a moment, she seemed a lot like her father in her body language and tone. “He makes a lot of use of Beedrill - they’re kind of his signature Pokemon - so I’m going to use my Charmander and Pidgey,” she said. “My Nidoran, too; he knows Peck, and being Poison-type is immune to poisoning. Buzz’s Pokemon are more glass cannons than anything else - if you survive the first round, you can take ‘em down with a solid hit.”

Marshall in turn was shocked, before retorting, "Listen up sweetheart, I don't know how they do it where you come from, but in my region we think trainers should be prepared to fight alongside our pokemon to grow a bond forged in battle! I can respect that not everyone feels the same way, and I can understand why looking at your arms, but you won't call me a barbarian again, woman. In any case, no full contact fights, message received."

"Hey Marsh, cool it." Terry says, getting in between the Scarlett and the angry youth. "No one here knows where the hell you came from or anything about the place, but you're going to have to get used to it being different here. A human fighting a pokemon tends to be suicidal and the only people I can think of that have done it were on Bruno's level. So don't go starting pointless fights."
He pauses and breathes a little before turning to Scarlett, his smile back on his face. "I personally specialise in the bug type, just like Buzz, so my strategy is going to rely on their great mobility with their lines of thread, as well as my Dustox's Gust attack. I haven't managed to come up with a way to deal with the poison aspect of the challenge yet, but I hope to solve the issue or capture a bug/poison type before I challenge him."

Oh. This changed things. Scarlett sure had her father's patience and understanding of Pokémon when she explained, but Church wondered where she got her fiery temper and eagerness for battle from. Now that he thought about it, who exactly HAD Prof. Oak married? In all his years living in Pallet Town, he had never seen him with his family. Maybe Amber would know.
Maybe that's why he never picked up on Scarlett Oak's name from the other class. If he remembered correctly, there was supposed to be a girl there who was both beautiful and very well learned, but with a temperament to watch out for and very apt at battling.
This was certainly taking an interesting turn.
"Oh, if it's a rival you want, young miss, a rival you'll have! Name a time and place tomorrow and let's do this! I'll warn you, though, I'll be training so my friends and I can give you a much more interesting battle! He was getting very excited to have such a challenge facing him so early in his journey.
He looked at the girl, smiling with a wicked grin and added: "And it looks like I'll have to get me some new teammates to beat that charmander of yours. I'm very ill-matched against Fire-Types right now, and it would seem I'm up against a top student here, right?

“Oh? Then what should I call you? Blockhead? I like blockhead. It suits you.” Scarlett gestured angrily towards the nurse. “Heal up your Pokemon, blockhead. You’re not worth my time.” She quirked a tight and mirthless smile dripping with poisoned sweetness. “The grown-ups are talking.”
Visibly composing herself, the blonde beauty looked back to Church. “Does noon tomorrow work for you? If you’re really scared of my li’l Charmander, there’s a pond out on Route 22 that has some Water-types in it. Bring your top game, too; I’m the school’s reigning champion, and I don’t have time for losers. You don't have any excuses, either, because Daddy wouldn't have given you a Pokemon if you didn't have something special about you.”

"Blockhead, huh? Yeah, that suits me well enough Twig. I expect a good battle tomorrow Twig. You better bring your friends Twig. I hope you're a better Pokemon battler than you are a fighter, Twig!"
Not wanting to further damage her goodwill towards his allies, he smirked right back at her as he headed over to the nurse to get healing for his pokemon.

"I never said I was scared, little champion." Church said to her, trying to divert her from preparing a response for Marshall.
His smirk crept up to his cheek in playful rivalry. "My Bulbasaur has a few tricks up his sleeve to stand up on his own. But I think that battling a trainer of your battle record with less than a functional team is a waste of a good battle, if you ask me. We'll see who's the loser tomorrow at noon. Let's see if you've also inherited you father's battling skills as well as his wits. See you around, little champion. He added, smiling at her before turning in his Pokéballs to the nurse.
On TV, top-of-the-line Trainers sometimes said that a great fighter had an even greater sparring partner. Maybe he had just found his.
