As Shako begins his training, the sun finally dips below the horizon. There is still plenty of light to see, though, as the settlement seems to have lights that automatically go on when night falls. However, beyond the lights, the inky darkness is almost opaque, since the moon has yet to rise. No telling what lurks out there. And in the shadows of these seemingly ageless ruins, it's easy to imagine some primordial horror slithering out of the ruins to prey upon roaming teenagers.

Helen digs through her bag and whips out her trusty flashlight as the dark sets in. "Jamie and I are stepping out to hunt shards. It shouldn't take long, we should be back by the time you are done training... assuming we don't run into any trouble of course."The trainer flashes a wide grin, her confidence clearly making a fine recovery from the day's events. "Come on Thumper, lets show Jamie how to find some pretty shards." (You never gave me the results of the Shard Hunt roll I made in the OOC thread shortly after the chapter started. You can just use those, or ignore them for the new rolls spoilered below)Daily Shard Hunts Each Hunt Gets 8d6. Find a shard of the GMs choosing for each 4 or higher rolled. OOC Yeah, I missed the first one. Bit of a flub on my part, sorry. It'll be ignored in favor of you finding a bunch. Helen follows the shards like a trail of cookie crumbs, leaving the settlement and heading out towards the copse of trees observed earlier, unearthing two red and three green shards, along with one each of a yellow, orange and finally, just before the trees, a violet shard. As the last shard is collected, a Vespiquen buzzes out of the copse directly in front of you. Strangely, for such an aggressive Pokemon species, it seems more curious about you than angry. Stranger still, it holds a large jar full of a yellow substance.

Helen takes a step back as the large bug emerges from the trees, and looks at it right back with just as much curiosity. To the best of her knowledge, wild Vespiquen lack the glassblowing skills to produce jars.
"Don't me me," Helen tells the bug, showing it the violet shard she had just scooped off the ground "I'm just looking for pretty things on the ground. Do you have a trainer out here?"
Helen fishes out her Pokedex as she puts the last shard in her bag, and gives the bug-type a scan. It may not be known to Mega-Evolve, but Vespiquen was just to cool of a Pokemon to pass up if it did turn out to be wild.

The Pokedex beeps a moment as it scans the Vespiquen. An image of the Pokemon appears on the screen, and then Laurel's voice comes from the speakers: "Vespiquen, the Beehive Pokemon. These large Pokemon usually live as the heads of a Combee hive, so if you're seeing one you're either very brave or very lucky. They are highly aggressive when defending their hives. This has not stopped humans from domesticating them for the very delicious honey they produce. Whether domesticated or wild, they are capable of controlling swarms of Combee to do their bidding." Another voice echoes from the trees: "Violet? Violet, dangnabbit, where'd you go?"

Helen chuckles and puts the dex away, before calling out to the trees. "You looking for your bug? Its over here!"

A young man about your age emerges from the trees. In the darkness, it's tough to discern details, but he's about five and a half feet tall, and a bit more heavyset than you. His accent indicates that he's a country boy. "Thank you kindly, miss," he says as he approaches. "Lost track of her in those darn trees over yonder." When he reaches the Vespiquen, she hands him the jar, which he stuffs into a knapsack on his back. "M'name's Rufus, by the way," he says, holding his hand out.

Helen pauses for a moment, before it dawns on her that she was supposed to shake the hand, which she eventually does. "Umm... Helen. I'm Helen. That's Jamie and Thumper over there. The three of us were just out dowsing for shards. I'm assuming you are doing the same but for honey?"

Jamie raises a hand in greeting when he is introduced and then holds the same hand out to be shaken. He has an easygoing smile on his face, despite having been completely ignored by Rufus so far. To tell the truth, Jamie is actually a little amused. With his blinding bright hair, he's usually hard to miss, but he can't fault Rufus for paying more attention to a pretty girl.
"Hi there, how do you do?" Jamie asked.

"Oh, didn't see ya there," Rufus says, shaking Jamie's hand. He looks between Jamie and Helen. "So what're y'all doin' out here this late at night? Them Tempest goons chase ya out?" As he speaks, Violet the Vespiquen delicately takes each of your hands and shakes them gently.

"Late? Its just after sundown." Helen chuckles, and then holds up her dowsing rod for Rufus to see. "I was just out hunting for shards, and Jamie was tagging along just in case the Tempest goons did show up. They actually left though, so it is safe to go back to camp if you'd like."

"Well, on mah family's farm up by Augur Town, any time after sundown is late," Rufus replies with a chuckle, examining the dowsing rod closely. He then looks back at you with a somewhat analytical eye. "Say, y'all wouldn't happen to be some of them Pokemon Trainers, would ya?" he asks. "An' if y'are, y'all wouldn't happen ta be headin' up to Augur Town, would ya?"

"We are trainers, yes, and we will be heading to Augur eventually. Thumper and I are going to beat the gym when we get there! We are going to prod around in the ruins first though, which should also be fun..."
Helen offers a naive and friendly smile, showing absolutely no issue telling the stranger her plans.

Rufus thinks a moment before replying. "Here's tha thing- Gym Leader Craig don't accept challengers unless they prove themselves, an' y'all just happen ta be here at 'bout tha perfect time. Them mountains around Augur Town crawl with Aron and their family 'bout this time o' year, so it's kinda an annual thing ta beat them back. Craig don't accept challenges from anyone who don't help 'em fight back 'gainst tha Aron." He reaches into his pocket, pulls out a small box, and opens it for you to see. Inside the velvet-lined box are five indentations, one of which is filled by a small, shiny piece of metal in the shape of an industrial drill head. "Last year, I helped out, an' got ta take tha challenge. As ya can see, I won an' got this 'ere Augur Badge." He puts the box away and looks back at you. "I was wantin' ta go into them ruins, but after I saw tha firepower Team Tempest sent in, I was thinkin' twice 'bout it. So hows about a partnership? If'n y'all let me tag along, I'll take y'all up ta Augur Town, and you can help fight 'gainst them Aron." Your Thoughts You believe that "Aron and their family" refers to the Aron evolutionary line- Aron, Lairon, and Aggron. You've heard rumors of the family's voracious appetite for metal, but nothing definite beyond that. Helen knows that Aggron can Mega Evolve.

Helen considers the request. "I think that is fair enough, but Jamie, and Shako, our other friend who is training by the camp would have to agree."
She then looks Rufus up and down as a question pops into her mind. "What sort of Pokemon do you use in battle Rufus? I don't imagine Violet would fair to well against an Aaron."

"Well, I've heard that the ruins become more dangerous the more people go in, but you certainly seem capable, so I don't mind if you come along," Jamie says.
What Rufus said about taking the Augur City Gym Challenge is on Jamie's mind. If he is honest with himself, he isn't sure whether he likes taking part in what seems to be the practice of pushing Pokemon out of their territory, but he supposes people have to live somewhere too. It's unlikely that the event is as bad as Jamie is making it out to be, that is simply his first impression anyway.

Shako finishing his training, recalls all his pokemon except for Howler. Good job training today pal, would you like to go for a walk? Kneeling down, patting him on his head. Keep your eyes out for items like last time okay?Howler nods, as he turns to head off for his walk with his new friend. Out of camp, to where Helen and Jamie were headed.

Shako arrives on the scene, and sees his friends talking to a heavyset teenager with a Vespiquen hovering nearby. He is just in time to see Rufus pull out a Pokeball and open it, unleashing a gigantic, humanoid Pokemon that looks like an oversized sumo wrestler. "This is Harper, mah Hair-ee-ya-ma," he says. Harper grunts in greeting. He pulls out a second one and can't help but grin a little. "Found this li'l beauty in one o' them ruins- not this 'un, though. Meet Georgia, mah Go-let." He opens the Pokeball and out pops a little blue and brown Pokemon that looks a lot like a shorter version of Rufus- albeit with glowing yellow eyes and no mouth. It peers at you all curiously, and Jamie is reminded of how Cascade squints at things. As Shako sees this, Howler sprints up to him, holding an unusual item in its mouth. It looks almost like a can of spray paint. Images obviously not to scale. Hariyama is more than twice the size of Golett.

"Those are some pretty strong looking Pokemon," Helen admits as she spots Shako catching up with the party. "Hey, Shako, this guy wants to explore the ruins with us. Its fine with Jamie and I if its fine with you."

Shako looks at Rufus, and then to his pokemon. If it's fine with the both of you, then it's fine with me! The more the merrier, that's what my grandma always says. Shako lets a big grin go across his face, as he looks at everyone around.
We shouldn't have much trouble with everyone working together in the ruins. Should we go rest before we head in?
As Shako asks this, he see's Howler come running up with something in his mouth. Hey boy, what did you find? Bending over to ask for the item from Howler, patting him on his head.
