"Kin we address the Donphan in the room?" The farmboy pressed as Cole started to leave. "Ain't been any of these big events we been dealing with that weren't local to us. No news or whatsits. Ain't bothered the other folk what got gems before us neither." His brow knit, and Theodore scratched along his upper lip.
"Been taking a long, hard look at myself. What would drive me if it happened." Shaking his head he shrugged helplessly. "Have to say I am scared and clueless."

Cole squirmed in place, eyes darting between everyone in the room "Look I would rather not talk about either of those incidents around someone who hasn't heard about it. Maybe we can talk more about it after we meet back up in Lavaridge? Just.....No need to worry more people than necessary, you know? Not when she was kind enough to open her home to us"

"Worrying about something like that seems pointless anyways. It's like asking 'what's my worst trait?' and that just sends you into a negative spiral" Kai clapped his hands together as he stood up, stretching a bit before he went to go help Cole in the kitchen.
"And this whole mess is about negative spirals, as far as I can tell, so don't worry about what you would do. We have bigger fish than that to fry. Like figuring out when we're leaving tomorrow!"

"No need to worry about not telling me everything," the old woman says, her eyes twinkling, "I was young once, hard as that may be to believe. I know that there are things that are best kept to yourself. Sometimes knowledge of when not to spread a tale is as important as knowing when to share. It's a shame, because it sounds like a good one, but I don't want to make you kids uncomfortable. Anyways, I'll leave you to getting settled for the night."
The group wakes in the morning to the sound and smell of breakfast being cooked. Bacon, eggs, berries, pancakes... everything needed for a hearty breakfast. "You know," the lady says, as everyone trickles down, "you kids don't need to leave today. Could just stay here and rest, enjoy the countryside around. I don't mind the company, and you could probably do with the rest from being on the road."
"Resting a little does sound nice," Ayah says, her Vulpix being brushed on her lap.
"That's what Lavaridge is for," Evelyn protests. "Hotsprings, Ayah. That's like, the relaxing thing..."
"Well, we don't need to go out right away. Since we'll be splitting up, I want to get a bit more group training in," Ruby says, glancing at Cole.
"Alright, I guess..." Ayah says. "But when we get to Lavaridge, we'll be staying there for at least a few days, okay? That don't involve the Gym." She looks at the guys. "You'll back me up on this, right?" she asks, nervously.
"I'm sure they'll be willing to tackle her if she tries to drag us away early," Ruby chuckles. "I'll try to avoid getting too restless myself."

"Be easier to navigate the desert by day, but cooler at night. The tunnels are going to be baking hot regardless of the time of day I imagine. Be lying if I didn't say I was real keen on finding some desert grass types. Hardiest stuff there is, growing with little water like that." Theodore suggested to Cole and Kai.
Stepping in shoulder to shoulder with Ayah, he took her hand and gave it a squeeze, offering a smile before sliding away again. "No reason to rush anything. Couple days to unwind and meet some new critters, have a soak and some sun. Sounds great."

Cole nodded at Ruby "It might do for all of us to train with people who have different styles than ourselves. Training with Ruby has been doing me some good, she's helping me learn to think things through more and not let my emotions get the better of me like they have been. Why not train with Evelyn and see what techniques you can swap around T? And Kai, maybe Ayah could show you some tricks on battling more defensively, something to help keep Keahi up longer in fights."
He finishes up eating and starts to collect his things "And then we can leave around noon, still enough time to travel and everything and should be early enough to find T those grass types"

"Oh... Uh... With Evelyn?" Theo considered it hesitantly giving Cole a brief deer-in-the headlights stare before clearing his throat. "Sure uh... I spose if that is what she fancies."

"Uh, I can give it a try with Ayah, but I don't think those Icy strats are gonna work well for Keahi... Though Coronet might get some use for it!" Kai was certain that their styles were pretty incompatible, but hey, he could learn more about Ayah, and maybe figure out how to deal with her better. Her Amaura was the biggest threat they dealt with... and it may have evolved so it's only going to get worse.
"Oh, and you better believe we're staying a few days in a town called Lavaridge, it must be pretty close to the volcano for that, and I want a few days around to explore the volcano!"

Ruby and Cole once more head out into the brush to practice Elementalism along with more standard training. Evelyn watches them go with a bit of a look of some kind, but doesn't actually say anything. Ruby's technique for training seems to be trying to disperse as much force to as many targets at once as she can - even if it's not quite enough, it leaves as many openings as possible, through admittedly some risk. Her duck in particular is fairly good about striking out at multiple close targets.
For practicing with their powers, she suggests after a time that she try and create stones, aim for a target, and Cole does his best to shoot them out of the air. She, at the very least, seems to be more comfortable with her abilities, even if she is mostly quiet during these sessions.
Evelyn's training style is very much go-go-go. Her Lucario in particular, she pushes it to as much as it can seemingly handle, before demanding more. At the end, though, when her Pokémon really do seem to have reached their limits, she comforts them, and gives copious amounts of praise.
...her new bird seems to be rather resentful around her Lucario, though, and just generally unwieldy. "I see whatcha mean, about not liking birds," Evelyn says to Theo after she's had to recall it for the second or third time. "Think in the future I'm gonna need to keep Maddie fresh until after the thing's been exhausted. Make sure it stays in line until it knows where it stands. It has potential, but, man, the way it was hunting, it's soft, and it's just complaining..."
Ayah... most of her training is just of herself, keeping her body active, while her Pokémon watch, and do little imitations. It's incredibly informal, and they mostly just seem to improvise and tussle with one another. Well... except for her Spinda. It just seems to wander around aimlessly. Even afterwards, when the Ice Trainer gets out her grooming kit, and just pets her Pokémon while watching Kai finish up, the spotted panda doesn't seem to stay in one spot for too long, which seems to visibly disappoint the blue-haired girl somewhat. She just cuddles more with her Vulpix to make up for it, though.
After all the training's concluded, everyone has some lunch before heading out - despite the protests once more of the old woman saying that they should stay for dinner, and begin heading out along the path, towards where their journeys will diverge once more.
But, before they get to that point, they pass a grove, and hear a voice from the trees. "Now, hey there," a male voice calls out, before a figure slides down a vine from a tree. It's a tall, lanky young adult, with an air of cockiness and dismissal about him. His clothes give off a carefully calculated 'I don't care' vibe. "What do we have? Some Trainers who want to pass? Well, see, if you've not heard, this is a toll road now. You want to pass, you can pay up. 1,500 each. Or, if you think you're better than us, you can battle. Double battle, for double or nothing." He slicks his hand back through his hair. "Whaddya say? If you don't like it, feel free to go the long way 'round."
As he's talking, more than a handful of others peer out from places in the trees and bushes around, watching the passerby.

Cole interlocks his fingers and extends his arms to crack his knuckles, before swiftly moving his neck to either side to crack his neck as well. Using one arm to limber up the other, he looks at the guy and a smirk appears on his face "Now what do you know. I think I did hear about this. I heard some two bit hacks are trying to shake people down, and are really just looking to get put in their place"
Rolling his shoulders and taking a few steps forward he tilts his head a bit "Now there are ladies here, so I'm gonna watch my language and not tell you exactly what I would do to your stupid faces if you actually tried to stop me from going where I want to." His smirk returned "Instead, it's your lucky day. Because I'm feeling the heat when it comes to battling and I wanna see how well I can team up with my friend Ruby over there. So instead of a beatdown before the battle, I'll tell you my name." His old fire seemed to be returning as Cole postured in front of the newcomers.
"I'm Cole Eld, and I'm going to be the Champion"

Theodore's training with Six and Lone Ranger is business as usual, he declares a very precise description of a target, usually on the terrain, and the pair fire at it with as much accuracy as they can muster, over and over. It is truly no wonder their attacks are so devastating with the degree to which he criticizes aim. It is always something small and innocuous, a split in treebark, a crack in rocks, a small hole in the ground. The same as one would find with a myriad of Pokemon opponents; weak points. Lucille, his Magikarp, swells with light, growing in size and power to an impressive degree. The boy is forced to put her away, despite being well treated she is unruly and terrifyingly angry. With the only moves she knows being largely limited to 'bite' there was concerns to what she might turn those jaws against.
"Reckon a wager sounds a might better then being hustled." Theodore quipped softly, tipping his hat up. "Evelyn, mind pairing off? After this morning's training, figure we could try it fresh."

Kai goes through some paces, making sure he and all his Pokemon could dance. He normally just let them do their own steps and figure out how to dance their way, but he kinda felt a bit off put by training with Ayah. Maybe he needed to get better physically as well, he had maintained his dancing but he hadn't really been trying hard to further it. It was about time he did.
"I guess we can team up then, Ayah, wanna use our foxy duo or you have another preference? I'm sure it would be cool to use them in a double match" Kai grinned at the pun, sure the people were being mean but he had the cash to spare... he thinks he does anyways. Plus double battles sounded fun, even if he was a little nervous about doing it with someone he had... never fought beside in a league battle.

"Aw, that's cute," the man says, pointedly and deliberately ignoring Cole's declaration, not even facing him,So, "everyone's pairing up with their girlfriends. Best be ready to be embarrassed in front of each other." He lets out of a laugh. "Glad that you've got a spine, though.""Yeah, well, you won't have one if you keep up that rhetoric," Evelyn retorts, her Lucario suddenly being released by her side. "Let's go, Theo, I'm ready to wipe that smirk off his face." "Oh, okay, then," the man smirks harder. "You're welcome to try. Hey, Sally," he calls behind him. "date night came early." A less sloppily dressed blonde jumps down from a branch and wanders over. "Can't wait. I love putting people like you in your place." "So, who else feels like flexing today? Seems like it's couples day, so, first dibs there," he addresses the people behind him. A tall pale girl and shorter boy come forwards towards Cole and Ruby. "I could swear you seem familiar..." the boy mutters, "but, not important. You need to be taught that you can't just come waltzing through here with no consequences."A big bulky fellow and an equally muscular girl are the ones to match up with Ayah. He mostly leers, while she laughs scornfully. "Look, pipsqueaks, shoulda just taken the easy way out. Just be glad that we're in a good mood, and we're not fighting you ourselves."Ayah ignores the girl, although her jaw seems to clench a little. "I'll stick with Sparkles, I think. I'm... much more confident with her.""Oh, sure, use your security blanket."
The battle groups separate a little bit, with the rest of the handful of the ruffians hanging back to watch all of the fields. The spokesman's Zangoose and his partner's Seviper approach the field (and glare at each other briefly) across from Theo and Evelyn. Cole and Ruby find themselves facing down a muscular humanoid bird and a black quadruped with a single horn. The Hawlucha flexes and poses, while the Absol softly calls out. Ruby wordlessly releases her Porygon, but glances at Cole with a glint in her eye. Kai and Ayah's opponents are a flying rodent that sparks with electricity, and a mass of floating vines underneath a gaping maw. The Emolga chitters happily, as the Carnivine makes light snapping noises towards it with its mouth. Maps

Kai mouths the word 'girlfriend' to himself, honestly bewildered that conclusion was made. Guess any boy and girl was a couple to this weirdo. With Ayah deciding not to use her own Alola Ninetales, Kai shrugged and changed his own decision as well. Plus he kinda wanted to stomp them as best he could for the comment, and Keahi was his best one for that.
Keahi made her entrance, dancing wildly when she was released. She loved her new form and was flaunting it, especially since it was her first fight since evolving! She eyed up Sparkles for a moment, before smirking and turning to face the enemies. "Let's show'em our best Keahi!"Keahi: 25

Cole threw up his arms when the guy ignored him, before pointing at him " After I beat your friend I'll take you on too. I'm not letting some street trash treat me like that, ya dig?" Quickly turning his attention to the pair in front of him now, he shook his head " The only one getting taught anything today is you pricks. And you're getting taught what happens when you try punching out of your weight class." Out in the battlefield Cole releases his Quilava, calling out to it " Habenero, it's time to show them your heat" Hab goes on Init 16

"Guess it's time I flashed my badge and got them to clear off. Come on out, Lone Ranger!" Theodore didn't retort at the girlfriend comment, but color flooded his cheeks, and his eyes darted to Ayah with Kai. The Starmie appeared, second set of arms spinning at high speed, generating enough lift to get it some clearance off the ground. It pirouetted in place before pointing the gem at it's core at Seviper. "Deadeye, Starmie, Bubblebeam!"

"Let's start this off nice and hot Keahi! Burn that plant away with your new move!" Kai was excited to try it out, and he was sure Keahi was as well. Wasting not an ounce of time, Keahi practically danced across the field, ending up right next to the Carnivine. She was glowing hot, the air around her getting hazy from just how heated it was. She opened her maw, a blue flame in her mouth as a wave of visible heat came from it and covered the area the Carnivine was in. Cole"I ain't gonna be digging anything, buddy," is all the retort the man gives, before turning away, laughing. The Hawlucha cracks its knuckles, before making a flying leap directly for Ruby's Porygon. It's diving at a tremendous speed, but the cyberduck manages to barely jink out of the way. By the cloud of dust that the bird makes erupt from the ground as it swivels around for a graceful landing, that would have hurt. The Absol, however, doesn't make the same mistake. It dashes into a flanking position before striking at the Porygon, causing a large gash. Not enough to do more than cause it to flinch back, though. "Whatcha think," Ruby asks, looking at Cole as the other 'mon rush into position, "want me to Tackle up both of em, or Psybeam that bird into next week?" Hawlucha misses with Flying Press. Absol hits with Night Slash. TheoLone Ranger's beam of water hits true, knocking around the serpent. It hisses at the star in irritation, seemingly more angry than hurt though. The Zangoose opens up a claw with a malicious grin, holding a poisonous-looking purple orb in its hand. It almost seems to absorb some power from it, before it runs forwards and hurls the sphere at the Starmie… before looking on in disappointment as the starfish just dodges out of the way. The Seviper makes a strangled laughing hiss, before slithering forwards and launching itself upwards with its razor sharp tail slicing through the air towards Starmie… who once again dodges. The snake sulks, while the Zangoose chuckles. "Alright, let's see what a real hit looks like," Evelyn says. "Because you guys have apparently never seen one before. Blasts of water are one thing, but you all seem to be trying for the physical. So I'll oblige. Maddie, go for the 'goose." The Lucario nods, before dashing towards the clawed Pokémon... who swivels out of the way of the punch the lupine extends. Evelyn's jaw clenches, and the red of her ears is very, very visible against her hair. "Not so high and mighty are we now, eh?" Sally taunts. Seviper is hit with Water Pulse. Zangoose triggers Toxic Boost. Zangoose misses Flinging its Toxic Orb. Evelyn tags Zangoose. Lucario misses with Power-Up Punch. KaiThe torrent of flame leaves the Carnivine much the worse for wear. As the Emolga swoops in, dealing a powerful charge against the flaming lizard, the plant wisely takes the chance to leave some seeds on Keahi before heading back and planting some roots. "Well, uh, I dunno if we can do anything to match that, but... Sparkles, go for that flying thing," Ayah implores. The Amaura inhales... before breathing a prismatic ray directly at the Emolga, causing it to shiver and spasm, squeaking in pain. "...aw, it sounds so cute. I feel bad now." Carnivine takes 2 injuries from Heat Wave. It's super effective! Salazzle takes 50 damage and 2 injuries from Acrobatics. Salazzle is hit with Leech Seed. Salazzle is Seeded! Carnivine Disengages. Carnivine triggers Empower, using Ingrain. Emolga takes 2 injuries from Aurora Beam. It's super effective!

"Take that Carnivine out quick before it can hurt Sparkles!" Keahi wasn't made for hits, but she could stand strong and keep fighting for now. One more hit would surely do her in, so she span out of the Emolga's reach and let loose a gout of fire straight at the Carnivine. Cole points at the Hawlucha and nods to Habenero who dashes to a position behind the Hawlucha and slams into it with his body covered in flames. Though he almost missed, the position of the Porygon ended up helping the hit land. The Fire Trainer shrugged "Hab got a decent hit across, but not enough that I'm comfortable saying it's gonna go down with a Tackle. But if you believe in it, then do whatever feels right. The less of them up the better" Hab uses Flame Wheel with a 6 vs AC 2 and flanking for 60 Fire Physical damage spending his Spicy Wrap.
