Ethan was caught unawares by the move, and Tau squawked indignantly at Via for the unexpected attack. Ethan did his best to try and balance himself but the chair made it pretty hard. He mostly wanted not to hit the back of his head against the floor.
"What is wrong with you?"

Amanda just backs the 'hell' up, not wanting to be anywhere near this fight seemingly breaking out.
"Can we not? At least not until we've got our answers...?"
Ul's face has gone a little blank, as Via striking was seemingly out of nowhere for the naive little ditto. She just blinks a few times, trying to register why these two humans were fighting now. Last she checked, they were all just talking!

Meridia smiles at Amanda and rapidly starts speaking. "Well one of the most popular first destinations is Brynstan City. Its to the south-east, along Route 2 and has a whole heap of cool wilderness - the Woodlands of Rost are super picturesque, Mt Obsius is an extinct volcano, Gadolin Cave has lots of this bio-luminescent moss that makes for amazing sites and you can go hiking in Bronze Mountains! It also has a gym, so loads of trainers go there first. Alternatively you could head north to Vertegis Forest, which has way more bugs than Rost, but they all have cool shiny shells that look kinda like bronze statues that got left out in the ocean air, which is really cool. Route 2 also takes you through the Iodian Plains, which has a weird pillar thing at the lowest point which might be worth a look. Or if you want to stay here in Brinetide for a bit you can head over to the Young Trainer's Support Association - or the YTSA for short. They'll let you stay in a room for cheap and everyone there is a travelling trainer, so you can be certain there'll be plenty of opportunities for trades and battles or whatever." She says without pausing for breath, utterly ignoring Via tripping Ethan and making him collide with the ground.
Ethan finds the fall to be painful, but nothing is bruised or bleeding, so it should be fine.

Ethan groans, just thankful he didn't hit his head too hard against the floor.
"The heck is wrong with you!? It's already damn hard to stop a falling chair, and I would much rather not have to delay my journey for a fortnight because of a bloody concussion"
Tau and Iota both placed themselves between the blonde and Via, with the Totodile hissing in anger. It was a cheap move, as far as Tau was concerned. Clearly this lady with the polearm was a heel! The storyline thickened!
Ethan stood back up and returned the chair to its place but didn't sit down. He had this incredible urge to just sock the girl a good one or get in her face, but he beat it down ruthlessly. That was the life he was trying to get away from... he wouldn't fall down to Via's level.
"You've been nothing but abrasive for absolutely no reason. What shit in your cereal?"

Hissho continued to watch Orion from behind his sunglasses, appraising the boy and his statement. It felt disingenuous. Intuition on Orion:0lOSQ7we3d6[/roll] "Young man, you should only apologize when you mean it. Stand by your convictions. It is your duty to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and no matter how much the world tells you to move, you must look to them and say 'No. You move'. That is what it means to be a man, and to have conviction," Hissho said, getting up from the table and patting the Piplup on the head as he did. "Hmm. Convictions. Victor. That seems like a good name. You are a champion Pokemon after all, heh," he said. Assuming the Pokemon was happy with the name, Hissho turned his attention to the rest of the party, and the breakdown in process. "Ho, ho, ho, my, my, such spirit!," Hissho said, shuffling over toward Ethan and Via. "I believe we'll find no shortage of bravado on our journey, if we were all to travel together, no indeed, heh heh," Hissho said. As he shuffled up to Via from behind, Hissho placed a hand on Via's shoulder. Not only that, but he simultaneously kicked at the back of her legs as he pulled her shoulder down. He tried to be sneaky about his attempt to trip her, and make it look like an accident. "Oh heavens, I'm sorry dear. It seems this old man doesn't know his own strength, heh heh," Hissho would say, looking at Via from behind his sunglasses. The sunlight flashed across them, twinkling in the corners as he stared her down. Via watches Ethan closely with narrowed eyes and head slightly askew, weathering his comments without much reaction. She didn't pay much heed to the ankle-biters jumping to Ehtan's defense, and was about to say something in response when Hissho walked up behind her, his attempted trip cutting whatever she was about to say off short. Combat opposed roll for the Trip, spending AP: v84IQH7i4d6+1 Perception to realize that he's not very stealthy: 3d6 I guess a fluff Focus against Hissho's Intimidate, not that it would really cow her much even if it does unsettle her. Perception to see the 'stealthy' Hissho. 1HM12xvo3d6
Amanda takes out a quick pad and notes down the locations. In particular, the nearby Association has her attention right on it. Some trainer battles against other new trainers to the area would be perfect. In fully prepping for her trip here, Amanda hasn't had any time to give Ul some training. She would love the chance to know exactly how strong the trainers here are so she can measure up, or if she needs to catch up. But, as she's about to thank Merida for the tips, Via goes after Ethan, followed by Hissho 'trying' to trip her. What was that old man thinking!? Amanda looks on to the scene, and huffs in anger. She steps up to Via and Hissho. She quickly points to Ethan though. "Sorry, this isn't for you Ethan, she just attacked you out of nowhere for no reason. But you two..."She points to Hissho and Via again. "Look, I don't know why you just decided to attack him, Via... But Merida was just giving useful advice to me, but it's good for EVERYONE. Maybe at least pretend like you were being serious about coming to this place? And Hissho, that was VERY hypocritical of you. You speak like you are wise with your age, and then turn around and do something so obviously childish?"She shakes her head. "If you all speak of traveling together, at least make the attempt to not try and kill each other. I'm headed to the YTSA for training if you all turn out to be serious."Amanda abruptly stops, seemingly have more to say, but she seems to realize she had an outburst, and her face turns beat red. Ul is busy basically cheering, as she's loving how this is going. Amanda quickly mumbles something akin to 'Pleaseexcuseme' but it's so fast and quiet nobody probably hears her. She scoops up Ul quickly and begins heading toward where she was directed for the Association, stressing the whole way there. What were you even thinking Amanda!? You blew up on people you didn't even know, and then even left the door open for a team up! Do you really want to travel with these people? Stupid, stupid, stupid...Amanda whacks herself a few times in line with the 'stupids'. She stops and sighs once out of sight. She continues on, hoping that some training will clear her head. 3d6

Via, sensing the presence behind her, slips out from Hissho's, instinctually reaching back and gripping the shaft of her halberd, before slowly releasing her grip and letting her hand rest back at her side. She looks to Amanda as she speaks, blinking stolidly, and when she leaves, focuses her attention back on Ethan. "I'd be willing to travel with you, if you wish. For now though, I'm going to follow her," she says, nodding her head backwards in Amanda's direction, "because I need a space for training as well."
She turns on her heel and eyes Hissho up, truly looking at him for the first time. She had felt the intensity in his glare, and he was skilled, even if he hadn't gotten the best of her. "Your words or your actions, old man. Pick one. Until then, I will neither like nor respect you."
Then, she departs to walk off after Amanda, slowly catching up to the taller woman.

"You've got a heck of a way of showing it, then" Ethan couldn't resist saying. The whole ambush had rather soured his desire to pair up, but he felt like as the one who was calling for it he should follow through with it.
"I'd stay and chat some more but I get the feeling that if I don't leave right now I'm either gonna get stabbed or left behind" he told the rest of the group. "It's not like I don't need to train either"
He chose not to address Hissho and Via's altercation. Whatever that was was certainly not his business, and he didn't particularly agree with the old man's response either. Eye for eye leaves the whole world blinded and all that. Calming his Totodile, he placed Tau back on his shoulder and waved at the group.
"Anyone else want to tag along for a workout? If not, and we don't end up seeing each other again before we leave, I wish all of you the best of luck"

By now Orion is just sullenly glaring at Hissho, having given Meridia a witheirng sarcastic gaze. For her part Meridia winces as Hissho, Ethan and Via fight. She turns to Hissho with a frown.
"I know you aren't really going to listen, because you're old and know that you know what you're doing - like the professor - but you probably shouldn't poke a beedrill hive with a burning stick. And you should probably try and fix this before consequences baloon up and explode but whatever. I'll just have to clean it up." She turns back to Orion and glares at him, making him sigh and look away from Hissho.
One of your fellow travelers stands up from the table walking over to Ethan. She's clearly a few years older than Ethan, confidently smiling at him. "I'm up for some training. We've gotta shake the rest of the cobwebs off after the cruise right?" She asks before holding out her hand. "I'm Abby Anderson. I saw you and the others on the boat but I get a bit seasick, so I stayed quiet. Pleased to meet you."

"Ethan McCormick. And I feel you on the seasickness. I'm not the biggest fan of boats either, but I've been in them enough to get sort of used to them"" Ethan answered. "I just want to get a workout, really. Great teambuilding, and I wouldn't hear the end of it if I lose shape over in this side of the pond"
He gave a gallic shrug, as if saying 'that's life'
"What brought you to Kimiya, Abby?"

"Honestly? The isolation. Not because I'm running away from anyone, but because you just don't get that often in the modern world or in any real recent history." Abby says, a twinkle in her eyes.
"The mythology of the region developed entirely separately than Kalos', despite sharing the same roots. And even after they opened up, bring in tourists and migrants they resisted any change. The entire drama with Team Flare didn't shake their beliefs at all, and I want to know everything about it I can." She pauses and looks at Ethan.
"How about you? Why'd you come to Kalos?" She asks.
Amanda and Via are walking towards the YTSA in uncomfortable silence as they run into Albus once more, the businessman in a notably better mood than earlier. "Ah! Via and Amanda right? Excellent, I was hoping to catch one of your group again. Etoile Energy is always looking to invest in the future - which is why I gave you the pokedexes. But I figured since you guys are new to the region I should make sure you get what you need to get started on the right foot. So if you're okay with a little more charity I can give you some of our more specialised pokeballs. Or perhaps some of the more niche healing items, but they're unpopular for some reason." He says, looking down at his suitcase in thought.

Amanda subtlely/not-so-subtlely tries to walk faster when the one person she didn't want following starts immediately following. But it's not long before she's accosted by Albus. Amanda first raises an eyebrow, she thought her last words with him didn't end so well... Why was he so cheery now? She stops in front of him. Although more pokeballs isn't something she needs, healing items is something she might need...
"Those who think the healing items aren't worth grabbing can't grasp tactics sometimes. It's like if it's not a Hyper potion, it's pointless sometimes with these people..."
Amanada blushes as she realizes she's rambling a bit about her own life again, and just shuts it down.
"Consider me interested in them, however."

"Well, I've never been to Kalos" said Ethan "But I came for similar reasons. Kimiya is this trove of untapped knowledge, with a cosmology that is frankly fascinating to a mythology student like me. I also may be close onto a big breakthrough but I can't really tell you until I'm sure of it"
He smiled at Abby, tapping his bag all-the-while.
"Can't really share the treasures of this trove if they all turn out to be wrong, you know. I've got to learn more about alchemy first"
After a few more seconds, he grimaced and let the bag drop.
"I guess there was also some desire to go to a place where I could make myself a name on my own merits. The name McCormick doesn't come with connotations here, and I'm perfectly fine with that"

"Eh?!" Hissho seemed stunned that the others had seen through what he believed was a masterful display of stealth, but he recovered.
The girl, Amanda, had already chided him and left, and Hissho couldn't help but chuckle. Hypocritical? My dear, I don't think that word means what you think it does. Did I ever tell them not to fight? Heh heh heh.
"Hmm? I don't need your respect, little girl. Your notice will do just fine," Hissho said to Via as she left. He was straight-backed, standing at his full height for the first time since anyone had seen him. He glared at her over the brim of his sunglasses, and there was a frown on his face and no joviality there. It was a clear and present challenge to her behavior.
When Meridia interjected, Hissho shrank back down to his unassuming, normal self, and looked at her. "Eh? Beedrills? Heh, heh, heh, that's a fair analogy, but a misused one, I think. She's no beedrill hive--I only have to deal with one of her if she's angry. More like an angsty Tauros, and sometimes you just need to take the Tauros by the horns. It's the only way they learn," Hissho said, though it seemed unclear if he was talking about teaching people, or teaching Tauros.
"Now then, someone said something about a workout, eh? These old bones could use some exercise," he said with a return to his jovial earlier demeanor.

Via listens patiently to the spiel, although she doesn't particularly seem to be enjoying sitting through it. She puts a hand on her hip and looks at Albus suspiciously. "With the amount of free stuff you're giving out, I'm beginning to feel like there's a catch somewhere."

Meridia gives Hissho a look that makes it clear she thinks he's misjudged the situation before turning abck to the trainers seated at the table. If he's after a workout he'll need to catch up with Ethan and Abby, who can be seen walking the same direction Via and Amanda went a few minutes ago.

Hissho returns Meridia's glance with a smile and begins to walk after Ethan and Abby, keeping a measured pace for an old man, but making sure not to lose sight of them.

Albus nods and hums as he pulls out a green pouch, holding it out to Amanda. (It contains 2 Shuckle Berry Juice, 4 Energy Powders and a jar of Honey) "Yeah people can get really focused on basic methods while ignoring that the goal is more important. I can't imagine turning down something because it doesn't fit my expectations." He says before looking at Via. "Well the catch is that someday you're going to end up purchasing from Etoile Energy over our competitors because of your good opinion of our business. A little expenditure early in a trainer's career can go a long way, especially if they spread the good word."
Abby silently thinks for a moment as she walks beside Ethan before speaking. "Man, I guess I'm lucky there's no family legacy to live up to. All my family's ever done is farm and build, and we had to sell the farm when I was a kid. I've got no pressure except for my own expectations." She says as you turn a corner and see Via and Amanda talking to Albus. Hissho only half a minute behind them.

Amanda looks a little suspiciously at it for a moment before just taking.
"That's fair enough I suppose. I mean if you are helping me set up early on I'd consider it. But thanks. I'm not really gonna 'need' more pokeballs so these will help me out, thanks..."
Amanda looks over and sees that pretty much everyone else has followed. She looks off into the distance. She had hoped she could be by herself for a bit but she's out of whatever pushy energy she had before, so she's not going to be able to tell them anything.
