With that done, the party continued on their way. Although the Tauros carts Eoghan owned was mostly full, there was still enough space for the squires to stay inside or hold onto the outside for a ride. Eoghan was singing all-the-while, his voice a powerful yet soothing sound that contrasted heavily with the sounds of the forest.
Al's Retreat was their next destination.

Maela wasn't much of a singer, but she couldn't help humming along with Eoghan's powerful voice as she hung on the side of the cart. It made for a pleasant journey through the beautiful woods - even after all this time away from home, the deep green of the forest still surprised her sometimes. Though, of course, what waited for them at the end of the journey put a damper on things. Even if she was enjoying the music, she was doing her best to keep an eye on the trees - she didn't know how much of the road the bandits liked to haunt, and the leader having tamed a giant spider expanded the ambush possibilities quite a bit. Now hopefully the more eagle-eyed members of the party were paying attention, too... Perception check: 10

As the cart semi-merrily rolled along, Morgan had his eyes peeled upon the woods, keeping an eye out for any sign of danger. They were of course afforded some safety, as Pokémon were not particularly well known for attacking carts such as this one, but that did not mean that they were safe. Oh no! Certainly not. With the bandits hiding about the trees, there could be no want of discipline. Eyes sharp Morgan! Perception of 14!

O. sat on the back of the cart watching behind them, and to their sides. Watching for the sign of any other pokemon that might ambush them, as well as the bandits who he didn't think would be on this side of Al's Retreat, but they might have scouts located around. He hummed along to the songs he knew that Eoghan was singing, not trusting his own singing voice to mesh well with Eoghan's. I got a 6 on Perception

Elys and Nolana were inside the cart while O. was too busy watching the road behind to notice movement at the front of the cart. Only Maela and Morgan seemed to notice some movement on one of the branches of the trees up ahead. ɟɳɷɾɳȲɳʀɶȲɟʁʄɹɳʀȲɵʁʇɾɶȲʅʉɷɳʄȲʆɺɷʋȲʅɳʉȲɳȲʅɿɳɾɾȾȲɺɳʀɶȲʅɻʌɷɶȲɺʇɿɳʀʁɻɶȲʅɿɻɾɻʀɹȲɳʆȲʆɺɷɿȲɸʄʁɿȲɳȲʆʄɷɷȲɴʄɳʀɵɺɀȲɫɷʆȲɳȲʅɷɵʁʀɶȲɾɳʆɷʄȲɳɾɾȲʆɺɷʋȲɵʁʇɾɶȲʅɷɷȲʉɳʅȲɳȲɴɻʄɶȲɸɾʋɻʀɹȲɳʉɳʋȲʍɢʁɽɷȲɗɶȲʆʁȲɻɶɷʀʆɻɸʋȲɴʄɷɷɶȲʁɸȲɴɻʄɶȾȲɡɵɵʇɾʆȲʆʁȲɹʇɷʅʅȲɳɴʁʇʆȲʉɺɳʆȲʋʁʇȲʅɳʉʏħ The cart itself moved straight past the spot, and not a long while later the group could see the fringe forest hamlet of Al's Retreat at the end of the road.

The travelling and singing had been wonderfully peaceful, and a nice change of pace. Lana climbed from the cart with a stretch, immediately glancing around the small hamlet and trying to make a mental map of it in her head. She resolved to mark it off on a proper map later-- it seemed a good rest point, at any rate.
"You know best about the surrounding area, sir," she says simply, looking to the others to make sure they'd agree with the rest. "If nothing else, might others around here potentially have information? About those that took your daughters?"

"Fairies... No... Bird! Bird thing...?" Morgan mutters cryptically, jumping down from the wagon, as if adding to Lana's line of thought, but clearly missing and ignoring almost all she had said. His mind was hard at work. What was that thing? The tiny... Thing! Ugh! He felt like he should know it! He could see the picture in his head of a tiny little drawing grandmamma might have drawn for him, but GAK! The bird! For whatever reason, the bird kept popping back into his head. Today, he could remember nothing of stories. Only the bird. What. Was. THE BIRD. Pokémon Edu. - 9!

Maela watched the tree intently as they passed it. She could swear she'd seen something... she just wasn't at all sure what. She needed to brush up on her Pokémon knowledge, if they were going to be out in the field, but even apart from that she didn't know what to make of the whole experience. Judging from his muttering, Morgan had spotted it too, but none of the others seemed to have noticed it. She was paying attention to Lana's questions, and she nodded in agreement. "Anything we can find out would be useful. But you needn't worry about endangering us, sir. This is what we've been trained for, and I would hardly call it unnecessary."She stepped discreetly over to Morgan to whisper in his ear. "Did you see something on the way here, too? In that tree? What do you make of it?"

Morgan snaps himself back to the real world as Maela moves up next to him. Oh to be so close to such a beautiful person, it was intoxicating! But, through force of will he manages to catch what she is saying and stop another oncoming reverie. He nods and replies in low tones. ɵʀʉʈʎȺɽʉʆʉʌɗȼɌɻɻɻɏɎȼɷȤȼɣȺʎʂʃʈʅȺɣȺɾʃɾɆȺɼʏʎȺɣȺɽɻʈʈʉʎȺʍɻʓȺʀʉʌȺɽɿʌʎɻʃʈɈȺɛȺʍʇɻʆʆɆȺʂʏʇɻʈʉʃɾȺɽʌɿɻʎʏʌɿȺʌʃʁʂʎəȺɣȺʀɿɿʆȺɻʍȺʃʀȺʇʓȺɡʌɻʈɾʇʉʎʂɿʌȺʇʃʁʂʎȺʂɻʐɿȺʎʉʆɾȺʇɿȺʍʉʇɿʎʂʃʈʁȺʉʀȺʎʂɿʇȺʉʈɽɿȺɼʏʎɈɈɈȺɛʂȻȺɧʓȺʇʃʈɾȺʃʍȺɼʌʉʅɿʈȻȺɣȺɽɻʈʈʉʎȺʁɿʎȺʃʎȺʉʀʀȺʉʀȺʎʂɻʎȺɾɻʌʈɿɾȺɼʃʌɾȺʎʂɻʎȺʑɻʍȺʀʆʓʃʈʁȺʉʐɿʌʂɿɻɾȻȼɵɉʀʉʈʎɷć "Grah!" "Swellow! Swellow pie!" The eccentric Morgan replies suddenly. That's what it was! "I don't know anything about that little creature, but I do know the bird was a Swellow! Pitch black, and Swellow!"

"The hunters sound like an excellent place to start," said Elys. She gave Morgan a brief look at his outburst - what about Swellow pie? - then decided to ignore it; if it was important he'd explain. "Can you direct us to one, sir?"

"A bakery!" Lana exclaimed gleefully, nearly hopping on the spot. Chlua had once again wandered off somewhere, but Lana trusted the little pig would find her way back after poking around. This place was exciting, after all-- and a bakery! "Yes, yes, I'll get right on making some necessary food for the trip!"She made her way, tying up her hair as she went, and entered the bakery with a smile. This was familiar territory, in a way, and she'd not waste any time! Will make three of each kind of Salty, Spicy, Sour, Bitter, and Sweet. Totaling 1500.

Whatever ill portents that had distracted him melted away as the smell of baked goods laid siege to Morgan's nostrils! He a ran with a clatter to see what was the matter, and lo behold flavorbread! The best kind of bread!
"Ah, ah, ah! Such sweet delight! Such wonderful things! Such wonders!" Without further delay, he claimed two of the spicy snacks and one of the Sweets. Oh, if only he could have more.

As O. listened to Morgan's outburst, quite used to them over the years he has known him, he takes a look around the small town they had arrived at. As he listened in to his companions and Eoghan talking, he considered going with Elys towards the hunters, but decided instead to go to the loggers. Cover all there bases as it were.
"So, where would one look for the loggers. I'd like to ask them a few questions as well." O. Asks Eoghan after Elys asks after the hunters.

"Thank you, sir." Elys took her leave without further ado. Worthy as this task was, it was a distraction from their mission, and they'd best be done with it as swiftly as possible. Hopefully the hunters would have some idea of where to start; she was no hunter, and while Cie was a fine tracker even he needed a scent.
She followed the baker's directions - presumably a pub or inn - and approached the likeliest-looking group.

The atmosphere at the tables they were led to were joyful even through the underlying gloom of the situation - clearly the face of a successful hunt. They were toasting each other and digging into what looked like barley cakes. Some of the loggers were there, clearly visible by their hatchets, while plenty others instead had empty quivers on their backs.

Maela trailed after Elys to the tavern, as much for moral support as anything - she was sure Elys was perfectly capable of asking for information herself but backup in a strange place never hurt. In any case, helping to search for information would probably be a better use of her time than hanging around over Lana's shoulder while she was baking, no matter how delicious it smelled.
At least the atmosphere was light. Maela had half-expected to find a much more depressed place, but between the cheer in the tavern and how much Eoghan had brightened while they traveled with him, she suspected that not much could keep the citizens of Al's Retreat down for long. Probably a good trait to have out in the woods, even if the village was on the main road.
She stayed quiet for the moment; Maela was aware that she had a tendency to take over conversations given half the chance, so unless Elys wanted her to intervene she'd let the other squire do the talking. After a moment's thought, she ducked back out the door briefly to beckon O. their way, since he'd been looking to speak to the loggers.

Elys halted a civil distance away from the hunters' table, waiting for a break in the conversation. The need made her fingers twitch - urgent mission - but she had had more than her fill of people carelessly demanding her attention, as if whatever she were doing with her time could not possibly be as important as their business with her. (There were allowances to be made while she was a squire-in-training, and when she was a child, but part of her refused to see it as anything but a personal slight.)
So: waiting. Not long, just enough for a pause into which she could insert, "Excuse me, sirs; might I have a few minutes of your time?"
